Recap — The Three Principles of Narayana Dasha Interpretation

Computing the dasha is the software's job. Interpreting it is the point. Three ways were given in the previous class.

Principle 1 — The dasha sign itself

• See which house the dasha sign is in the chart, which planets sit there and which house lords are there.
• All of that is activated: "Narayana will be present in that house during that time of somebody's life."

Principle 2 — Progressed Lagna

• If the Narayana Dasha was progressed from Lagna: the dasha sign is the progressed lagna.
• If it was progressed from the 7th house: the dasha sign is the progressed 7th, so the 7th from the dasha sign is the progressed lagna.
• Judge the same natal chart from that lagna. 10th lord in the 8th from it: disturbance and instability in career during that dasha. 10th lord in the 11th: career is good and he makes a lot of money.

Principle 3 — Dasha Pravesha Chakra (Entry Chart)

• The most important of the three, especially for antardashas.
• Cast a chart for the exact moment the dasha begins, at the birthplace (not the place of residence).
• Why it works: a baby born at the birthplace at that moment has a life that correlates with the native's life during that dasha. "When a new dasha is starting, it is like a new existence. … PVR Narasimha Rao's life during Sagittarius dasha is a particular entity that just took birth at that particular time."
• The lagna of the entry chart can be any sign. It does not have to be the dasha sign.
• Judge each antardasha sign from the entry chart's own lagna: which house it is, what is in it, where its lord sits.

"When you are judging antardashas, just look at the lagna rising at the time the dasha started. That is your reference. Then only you will get good results."

PVNR's Own Chart — Sagittarius Narayana Dasha Example

Chart data: April 4, 1970, 5:47:13 PM IST, Machilipatnam (81°E08', 16°N10'). Virgo lagna.

Starting Sign and Progressed Lagna

• Lagna (Virgo) is empty; the 7th (Pisces) has one planet, the Sun. The 7th is stronger, so the Narayana Dasha was started from the 7th house.
• So in Sagittarius dasha the progressed lagna is the 7th from Sagittarius = Gemini.

The Dasha and Its Entry Chart

• Sagittarius dasha: April 4, 1985 (about 2 PM) to April 5, 1995 — 10 years. "We are usually interested in things that are over, so that we can learn."
• Entry chart for that moment at Machilipatnam: Cancer lagna.
  • Jupiter in Capricorn in the 7th, debilitated.
  • Mars and Rahu in Aries in the 10th.
  • Sun, Mercury and exalted Venus in Pisces in the 9th.
  • Saturn in Scorpio in the 5th, with Arudha Lagna, A9, Hora Lagna and Ghati Lagna.
• A student asked whether Sagittarius should be the reference inside this chart. No: use the Cancer lagna.

Sagittarius Antardasha (December 1986 – October 1987)

From the entry chart (Cancer lagna):

• Sagittarius is the 6th house, a dusthana. But see its lord: Jupiter is debilitated. A debilitated 6th, 8th or 12th lord is good.
• This is the 6th-lord half of Jaya Yoga (Part 3). The other half: 10th lord Mars is in his own house Aries, but he is afflicted by Rahu — "10th is not that strong."
• So it is a partial Jaya Yoga, and the student's reading was accepted: the 6th lord is more likely to give its result than the 10th lord. Sagittarius antardasha gives it.

From the natal chart (Gemini as progressed lagna):

• Sagittarius is the 7th from Gemini. Its lord Jupiter is in Libra, the 5th from Gemini — recognition of abilities.
• If you know the person is sitting engineering entrance examinations that year, Jupiter in the 5th lets you say he will do very well.

What happened: in May 1987 he was selected for IIT and stood state first in the intermediate examinations.

• His father told him not to write EAMCET (the Andhra Pradesh engineering and medical entrance test): "Why do you want to waste my money? You will get IIT. Just write IIT JEE."
• Use in practice: when someone asks whether to sit ten exams or two, a combination like this lets you give confidence. Without one, give mantras and tell the parents to keep a backup plan.

Aquarius Antardasha (August 1988 – June 1989)

Aquarius is the 8th house from the Cancer entry lagna. The class first called it a bad antardasha. PVNR: "I don't see why it is bad."

The two lords:

• Rahu is in the 10th house with Mars, the 10th lord in the 10th. The 8th lord of working hard is in a kendra with the kendra's lord. Mars and Rahu also show electronics engineering, which he was studying.
• Saturn is in the 5th house of abilities and their recognition, with Arudha Lagna and A9.

Yogada:

• Saturn is with Ghati Lagna and Hora Lagna and aspects Lagna (rāśi dṛṣṭi, Scorpio to Cancer).
• A planet associating with Lagna, Ghati Lagna and Hora Lagna is a Yogada. One of the two lords of the antardasha sign is a Yogada.

A student's objection — the 8th lord's agenda is anxiety, so Rahu in the 10th should give anxiety in career. PVNR's answer:

• The 8th house is hard work and anxiety; the two are closely tied.
• The 8th lord's agenda is to make you struggle or work hard, to keep you from being relaxed. "The 8th lord does not want you to happily relax and enjoy life. He wants you to keep doing something."
• He gives sudden developments — good or bad, but unexpected. He shows hidden things and the pursuit of hidden things. He shows tension.
• If you sit at home watching TV all day, he will give you a disease or some other problem that makes you work. If you are already working hard, his agenda is being taken care of.
• Here he did not let PVNR sit idle. He made him study, towards the 10th house and the 5th house.

What happened: in his first year at IIT Madras he took things easy and was in the bottom half of the class. In the second year, during this antardasha, he jumped to first rank on cumulative GPA for the two years. Shown by Saturn, a lord of the antardasha sign, in the 5th with Arudha Lagna.

Taurus Antardasha (1991)

From the natal chart (Gemini as progressed lagna):

• Taurus is the 12th house: losses, or displacement from the motherland.
• Its lord Venus is in Aries, the 11th house of gains from Gemini, with Saturn, the 9th lord from Gemini.
• So "it's probably not a loss, but losing something to gain something else" — a profitable displacement.
• The 12th can also show spiritual experience (the 8th and 12th are active at events like Kundalini rising), going to a foreign place, settling abroad.

From the entry chart (Cancer lagna):

• Taurus is the 11th house of gains — a good antardasha.
• Three factors take a person abroad: the 9th, the 12th and the Badhaka. For Cancer lagna Taurus is also the Badhakasthana.
• Its lord Venus is exalted in the 9th house and joins Mercury, the 12th lord. Badhaka, 9th and 12th all meet in the 9th house.
• So either Pisces antardasha or Taurus antardasha had a very good chance of taking him abroad.

What happened: in August 1991 he came to Rice University, Houston, for his master's on a fellowship of about $1,050 a month, with no teaching or research duties. A displacement from the birthplace, and a gain.

A Question on Paka and Bhoga

A student asked whether Narayana Dasha is judged with paka and bhoga as the regular dashas are. There are similar, associated principles, but not the same ones; they come later. The basics already give a good reading.
