The D2 Hora Chart — Kashinath Hora vs. Common D2

What Parashara Taught

• Each sign is divided into two horas, 24 around the zodiac.
• In odd signs the first half is ruled by Sun and the second by Moon. In even signs the first half is Moon's and the second is Sun's.

The Common Reading

• Some scholars took "Sun's hora" to mean Leo and "Moon's hora" to mean Cancer, because those are the signs Sun and Moon own.
• Every planet then falls in Leo or Cancer. "How can you interpret such a chart, when all the planets are just in two signs?"

The Reading in PVNR's Tradition

• Sun and Moon do not own just two signs. They own two halves of the zodiac — six signs each, as day and night.
• Read this way, the planets go into the two halves of the zodiac and not into two signs. All twelve signs can be occupied.
• In the tradition this is simply the Hora chart; the other is not a chart at all.

Why "Kashinath Hora"? The chart had no separate name in the tradition. To share it with scholars of other traditions it needed one, so Sanjay Rath gave it the name of his guru, Kashinath Rath.

What D2 Shows — Sampada, Not Just Money

• The misconception is that D2 shows money. Not exactly. It shows resources.
• The Sanskrit word is sampada. People translate it as money, but sampada is the ability to do things: the resources you have to do them with, the connections you have, the influence you have over people.
• Speech is a resource. Wealth is a resource. Connections in society are a resource.
• Money matters only because things get done with it. It is one resource among several.
• Example — N. T. Rama Rao. In May 1983 he started the Gemini Narayana Dasha of D2, a sign holding Ghati Lagna. He became Chief Minister of his state at that time. Ghati Lagna shows power, authority and access to influence. A Chief Minister calls someone, says "do this", and it is done. That access is sampada.

Which Dasha

• For the Hora chart Narayana Dasha is the best dasha. "I haven't found Vimshottari dasha giving excellent results with this particular chart. Narayana Dasha, on the other hand, gives very impeccable results."
• For a question about one year (will I win a lottery tomorrow?) use the year's Tithi Pravesha chart. For the whole life, the Narayana Dasha of the Hora chart.

D2 Hora Chart — House Meanings

A student asked whether only the 2nd house is looked at in D2. No. Every house has a meaning in every chart.

Houses From Lagna — The True Self

Key notes:

• A strong 8th house in D2 makes a gambler in financial matters. Such a person takes a risk happily. Investment is a low-level gamble.
• The 12th house is not only loss in the bad sense. It is giving something up: donating, or handing money to someone to invest and grow. Either way the money is put to use.
• A student asked about teaching. Giving knowledge is the 12th house of D24, the chart of learning — not of D2.

Houses From Arudha Lagna — The Perceived Self

• Lagna is the true self, which you do not fully know yourself. AL is how the world perceives you.
• 1st from AL: image and status in money matters.
• 2nd from AL: how resourceful you appear. You may not be so resourceful; the world may still think "if I ask him, he can get it done". People can get cheated that way.
• 3rd from AL: how enterprising you seem.
• He stopped the list here and went on to the arudha padas.

"Never ignore houses from the AL along with the houses from lagna."

D2 Arudha Padas — Meaning

Three Angles on Any House

1. The house from lagna — a quality of the true self.
2. The house from AL — a quality of the perceived self: how happy, how resourceful you are perceived to be.
3. The arudha pada of the house — the tangible thing.

• On risk: the 8th from lagna is what I feel to be a risk. From AL it may not look like a risk at all; people may call it a safe investment. Both are perception. A8 is the thing done on the ground.

UL in D2

• UL is losing money, and equally investing it: letting money go, rotating it.
• UL shows the investments or losses; AL shows the image. If UL is well placed from AL, the money let go makes the person look good. If UL is in a bad house from AL, he looks bad for losing it.
• If the karyesha is in UL, the person never keeps money in the locker. Whatever comes in he puts back into something else.

Key Rules for D2 Financial Analysis

Karyesha of D2 — The 2nd Lord of the Rasi Chart

• Every divisional chart has a karyesha. For the Dasamsa it is the 10th lord of the Rasi chart, who shows the actual work. For the Navamsa it is the 9th lord, who shows dharma.
• For the Hora chart it is the 2nd lord of the Rasi chart. His strength in the Hora chart decides overall financial success.
• Look at his links with lagna, AL, HL and GL in the Hora chart.
• The 3rd house is a good house for Mercury and for malefics. It is not a good house for Jupiter.

Exalted or Debilitated Planet in D2

• PVNR quotes Jaimini: with an exalted planet or a debilitated planet in D2, the person accomplishes a lot.
• Exalted: he is happy, cheerful, excited about what he does. The planet gives money easily.
• Debilitated: he is not happy and has to work. The planet still gives money, after some work.
• The rule holds for any planet in any house of D2.

HL and GL

• Hora Lagna (HL) — the source of actual money: the notes, the gold.
• Ghati Lagna (GL) — power and influence.

AL

• When the world looks at your financial status it may see someone who gets things done, or someone who has nothing. That image is seen from AL.
• Read every dasha sign from lagna and from AL.

Financial Chart Analysis Examples

Both charts are read in the Kashinath Hora chart with its Narayana Dasha.

Example 1: A Student's Finances

A student in the class asked about his finances. His birth time had been corrected from 10:55 to 10:52:04 in an earlier class. The class was held in June 2005, a few days before his dasha changed.

• Hora chart: Leo lagna with Saturn in it. Debilitated Sun and Mercury aspect Leo; Jupiter aspects it. Venus (debilitated) and Ketu are in Virgo, the 2nd house, with Moon aspecting. Virgo is the 10th from AL.

Leo Narayana Dasha — June 1996 to June 2005 (9 years)

• Leo is head-rising: the sign gives its results in the first one-third, the lord in the middle, the occupants and aspecting planets in the last.
• Last one-third = 3 years, shared by 4 planets = exactly 9 months each.
• Order by descending degree: Sun (28°), Mercury (15°), Jupiter (8°), Saturn (7°).
• June 2002 to March 2003: debilitated Sun aspecting lagna. Not so bad.
• September 2004 to June 2005: Saturn in lagna. The 1st house is marana karaka sthana for Saturn. Death in financial matters is not physical death; it is tightness in the finances.
• Saturn is the planet of labour, a functional malefic here: the 6th lord of struggle and the 7th lord of strong desire. Result: struggle, hard work to make money, strong desire for money, and no happiness in financial matters. A very tight period.

Virgo Narayana Dasha — from June 13, 2005

• Virgo is head-rising. The first one-third, June 2005 to February 2009, gives the results of the sign itself.
• From lagna Virgo is the 2nd house: resourcefulness increases, and wealth with it.
• From AL it is the 10th house: he becomes more active in society than in the last period, and the career takes a new direction. The 10th lord from lagna, Venus, also sits in the sign. "This is not a period when you will be tired."
• Venus in Virgo is debilitated: money comes, after work.
• Venus is the lord of both HL and GL. He links actual money and power to this dasha: access to influential people, some authority, more money than now.
• The peak comes when Venus gives his results — the last one-third, 2012 to 2016. Until then, hard work.
• Prediction given: from June 13 the finances will not be as tight as now, with new opportunities.

Example 2: Ramakrishna Dalmia — Industrialist

• April 7, 1893, 9:31 AM local mean time, 5h 43m 40s east of GMT (there was no standard time then)
• 20°56′N, 85°55′E. The longitude and the offset agree with each other; both are in the published class notes, and the recording gives the same longitude.
• Rasi lagna Taurus; Hora lagna Libra (as read in class)

A big industrialist of pre-independence India: insurance companies, a bank, a newspaper chain, coal mines, one of the first airlines in India, and the first cane-sugar mill set up by an Indian.

The karyesha. The 2nd lord of the Rasi chart is Mercury. In the Hora chart:

• Mercury is in the 3rd house of initiative, a good house for Mercury: strong initiative in financial matters.
• From AL he is in the 5th, a trine: the man is seen as very capable.
• He is in UL: money is always being let go — invested, rotated, never locked up.
• UL is in the 5th from AL: when he parts with money he looks good. He is seen as a capable investor.
• He is in GL: a powerful man in financial matters, with access to big political leaders and influential people.

A student said HL matters more for money. PVNR agreed HL is also important and added that in money matters the man has many enemies and obstacles to overcome. His point here was the karyesha's links with all the lagnas.

Narayana Dasha of the Hora chart

• Gemini, Libra and Virgo were the most auspicious dashas. He rose from nobody to one of the most successful industrialists of India.

Taurus dasha.

• From lagna Taurus is the 8th house, and it holds Mars, the 2nd and 7th lord. The 2nd and 7th are the houses of death, so their lord is a maraka. A maraka in the 8th house in the Rasi chart, in his dasha, means death.
• This is the chart of resources, so it is the financial life that takes a death blow.
• From AL Taurus is the 10th house, which controls the image the world has of your activity. A malefic there is not good. Mars gives war: the world sees him as a warrior in financial matters, extremely and unreasonably aggressive. Combined with the maraka position from lagna, that is how the downfall comes.
• What happened: Nehru was Prime Minister. Every newspaper praised him. Dalmia's newspaper ran editorials and coverage criticising him. Politics followed behind the scenes. Dalmia was accused of improprieties in his insurance dealings and went to prison. The government took over many of his companies and his children took others. He came out of prison later and died a broken man.
• Advice an astrologer would give going into such a dasha: there is a chance of a problem; do not take too many risks.

Homework: take Bill Gates, see which dasha he ran and runs now, and try some predictions.

All Houses Have Meanings in All Divisional Charts

All of this came from one student question: do you look only at the 2nd house in D2?

• No. The 7th lord in the 8th house brings death in the Hora chart too. There it is death in financial matters.
• All 12 houses have meanings at all harmonic levels. The meanings differ by chart.
• Death in the physical domain, death in career, death in financial matters, death in intellectual matters are different things.
