BPHS — 10th Lord in the Fourth, Fifth and Sixth Houses

10th Lord in the 4th House

Verse (112): sukhī (happy), mātṛ-hite rata (engaged in the mother's well-being), yāna-bhūmi-gṛhādhīśa (owner of vehicles, lands and houses), guṇavān (virtuous), dhanavān (wealthy).

• Happy: A quadrant lord is in the 4th house of comforts and aspects the 10th. The 4th house is good.
• Mother, vehicles, land, houses: The 10th lord is "what do I need to accomplish". He is in the 4th house of mother, vehicles and property, so the focus of his work is there. Either he does things for his mother and sees that she is fine, or he puts his effort into lands, houses and vehicles.
• Virtuous: Again not dharma: counted from the 9th house he is in the 8th. A student suggests learning. The teacher: it is the same as the 2nd house case. A planet in the 4th has argalā on lagna, and the planet whose agenda is honour in society shapes how the person conducts himself. Good qualities that are respected in social circles.
• Wealthy: From the 2nd house of wealth, this is the 9th lord, and from the 4th he aspects the 10th, which is the 9th from the 2nd: the 9th lord aspecting the 9th house. Very, very wealthy. Being in the 4th house, the wealth shows as cars, houses and land.

"He knows how to hold a wine glass. He knows how to walk, how to talk. That kind of person we are talking about here, that kind of good qualities."

The teacher remarks that wherever the 10th lord goes, the verse makes the person virtuous; the kind of virtue changes with the house.

10th Lord in the 5th House

Verse: sarva-vidyā-samanvita (endowed with all learning), sarvadā harṣa-saṁyukta (always cheerful), dhanavān (wealthy), putravān (has children).

• All learning: A quadrant lord in a trine. The 5th is the house of scholarship, so he is an excellent scholar. Because it is the 10th lord, the scholarship is used to build his respect in society.
• Always cheerful: The 5th is the house of emotions and emotional stability, and the planet has argalā on lagna. Balanced and optimistic.
• Children: A quadrant lord blesses the 5th house of children. The 10th house of karma is linked to the children: "So-and-so Sons and Co." The children come into his line of work, or are otherwise helpful in it.
• Wealthy: (1) The 10th lord in the 5th has argalā on the 2nd house. (2) From the 2nd house, he is the 9th lord in the 4th: a trine lord in a quadrant. (3) He is in the 4th from the 2nd and has argalā on the 4th from lagna, so much of the wealth can be real estate, though the verse does not say so.

A student observes that wherever the 10th lord is placed, the person's actions go towards that house. The teacher agrees: here the actions are about children, scholarship and emotional stability.

10th Lord in the 6th House

Verse: pitṛ-saukhya-vivarjita (no happiness from father), chaturo'pi dhanair hīnaḥ (though clever, devoid of wealth), śatru-pīḍita (troubled by enemies).

• No happiness from father: Interactions with the father are seen from the 3rd house: the 7th from the 9th, the father's outgoing nature towards the native. Take the 3rd as lagna. The 6th is its 4th house of sukha, and the 10th lord is its 8th lord. The 8th lord in the 4th: a big setback to the happiness from interacting with the father. The interactions are uncomfortable.
• Clever: Clever in dealing with enemies and obstacles. The 6th is how you overcome obstacles. Counted from the 6th, the 10th lord is the 5th lord, the lord of skill and talent, sitting in the house itself. He plans ahead and tries to win.
• Still troubled by enemies: The lord of work is in the house of enemies. Most of the work he puts in goes into fighting. He knows how to fight and keeps fighting.
• Devoid of wealth — does not add up:
  • From the 2nd house, this is the 9th lord in the 5th. That is good.
  • From the 11th house of gains, he is in the 8th, but as the 12th lord: a Viparīta placement, not bad.
  • He aspects the 12th house of loss, and he has to fight a lot. That can cost money. It does not make a pauper.
  • The teacher first allows that Parāśara may be pointing to a negative side that shows up with other bad factors, then gives that up.
  • Conclusion: with the 10th lord in the 6th expect a fighter with a lot of litigation. In the absence of other factors the placement is good for the 2nd house. If other bad things are going on with the 2nd house, "then you are in soup".

"Quite honestly, that expression 'dhanair hīna' doesn't make that much sense. There is something wrong there. It may be some other word instead. I don't want to guess, but there is a mistake. It doesn't add up."

The bottom line he draws: there can be mistakes in the verses we are reading.

12th Lord in the 3rd, 6th or 8th from a House (Viparīta)

Raised under "money grows day by day" (10th lord in lagna = 12th lord from the 11th, placed in the 3rd from the 11th). A student says he thought of it but took it as negative, because the 12th lord pulls back.

• The lords of the 3rd, 6th, 8th and 12th placed in one another's houses give Viparīta yoga: 3rd lord in the 6th, 6th lord in the 8th, 8th lord in the 3rd, and so on. A lord of a bad house in a bad house.
• 12th lord in the 3rd: The planet whose job is to give loss is in the house of initiative. It can mean the person lacks initiative in making a profit. It can also mean he does not need it: the 3rd is the seed of desire, "I want something", and that push is absent because enough is already coming.
• 12th lord in the 6th: The planet of losses in the house of fighting. It can mean no fighting spirit. It can also mean no need to fight.
• Take the house concerned as lagna (the 11th for gains, and so on). If its 12th lord is in its 3rd, 6th or 8th, there is a Viparīta Rāja yoga for that house.

"So there can be some setbacks, but eventually it will be good."

The same rule is used again for the 10th lord in the 6th: he is the 12th lord from the 11th, placed in the 8th from the 11th, so gains are not harmed.
