BPHS Chapter 24 — 6th Lord in the Tenth, Eleventh and Twelfth Houses

6th Lord in 10th House

(Verse 70)

Results: kula-viśrutaḥ — well heard of, famous in his circle (kula = lineage, family, caste; the bottom line is "in his circle"); abhaktaḥ pituḥ — not obedient to his father (not about devotion to God; it is the father's abhakta); vaktā — a good orator; happy in a foreign country.

Famous in his circle

• From the 10th house of honour and conduct: he is the 9th lord in lagna. Good karma, respect and honour.
• From lagna: an upachaya lord in the 10th, which is good for the 10th.
• From the 2nd house of family: he is the 5th lord in the 9th. The 5th from the 2nd is following within the family. People in the family like him and try to follow him.

Disobedient to father

• The 9th house is the father himself. From the 9th this planet is the 10th lord in the 2nd — that only shows a father with a good career and money.
• The problem here is the relationship with father, so take the 7th from the 9th, which is the 3rd house. From the 3rd the planet is the 4th lord in the 8th: a quadrant lord gone into a dusthāna. That is a duryoga. Not conducive to good relations with father.

Good orator

• From the 2nd house of speech: the 5th lord in the 9th. "He is a very, very good orator."

Happy abroad

• From the 12th house of living in a faraway country: the 7th lord, a quadrant lord, in the 11th of gains. If he goes abroad he flourishes.
• From the 9th house of fortune in a faraway country: a quadrant lord in the 2nd.

6th Lord in 11th House

Results: gets wealth from enemies; guṇavān — virtuous; sāhasī — bold; mānī — respected; but no happiness from children.

Wealth from enemies

• From the 6th house: he is the lagna lord in the 6th. He troubles his enemies. "He gives trouble to his troubles."
• The planet is in the 11th, so there are gains; being the 6th lord, the gains come from enemies.

"It doesn't necessarily mean his enemies come and say, okay sir, now take this million dollars. What this really means is he has to fight for it. He will have to go to court, fight with some rival for 10 years, and then get his wealth."

• This is different from getting other people's money (the 8th house), which can come easily and unexpectedly, like a lottery or an inheritance. "This combination is fighting for your very existence."

Virtuous

• From the 9th house of dharma, morals and guṇas: he is the 10th lord in the 3rd, an upachaya.
• Not in the same league as some earlier combinations, but he is not in a dusthāna from the 9th. The 3rd is initiative: he takes initiative in conduct relating to morals, and shows some enthusiasm in spreading them.
• Guṇavān is about virtue and morals, not learning. A student points out that from the 4th house of learning this planet is the 3rd lord in the 8th: the native may not be learned. The teacher agrees — it is not in the verse but it is logical — and adds that the 8th is the house of the occult, so the initiative may go into learning occult knowledge such as astrology.

Bold

• From the 3rd house: the 4th lord is in the 9th — a quadrant lord in a trine.
• A planet in the 9th from a house protects that house, unless its agenda is to ruin it. This one is a quadrant lord from the 3rd, not an 8th lord. He protects the native's bravery.

Respected

• From the 10th house of karma and honour: the 9th lord in the 2nd, the house that sustains it, with argala on the 10th. Good karma, reputation and status.

No happiness from children

• From the 5th house of children: the 2nd lord in the 7th. A māraka lord in another māraka sthāna — "a clear māraka" for the child. He can give the death of a child.
• If the child lives, the relationship is seen from the 7th from the 5th, which is the 11th. From there he is the 8th lord in lagna. Problems in the relationship with children.

6th Lord in 12th House

Results: vyayakṛt sadā — always spending, on bad habits and addictions (smoking, drinking, prostitutes); vidvad-dveṣī — hates the learned; likes to torture living beings. "So he is basically all bad qualities."

Spends on addictions

• The 6th lord shows enemies, and one kind is the enemy within: weaknesses and addictions. "If you are a smoker, smoking is your enemy. It ruins your health, and if you want to overcome it, you have to fight hard."
• The 12th is loss and expenditure. The lord of the 6th there gives expenditure on account of the 6th.
• It can also mean heavy spending on litigation. Parāśara gives the other possibility, vices.
• A student's addition, accepted: from the 12th house he is the 7th lord of interaction, so he may also spend on friends and on people in general.

Hates the learned

• Students try the 4th house (learning) and the 3rd from it. The teacher takes the 5th house of one's own scholarship: from the 5th this planet is the 2nd lord in the 8th, a māraka. The native does not value scholarship. One who does not want to be a scholar does not value scholars.
• Vidvat can mean a learned person or learning itself. Vidvad-dveṣī can equally be read as hostile to knowledge and scholarship.

It is also a viparīta yoga

• A dusthāna lord in a dusthāna is definitely a viparīta yoga. The verse gives one kind of result; the combination can also give good results after some fighting and suffering.

Harms living beings

• From the 7th house of interaction with other beings: he is the 12th lord in the 6th. He gives trouble, suffering and obstacles to others.
• He is not considerate of others' suffering, because his nature is to fight with other beings.

"So with that, we will end the 6th house. We will move on to the 7th house in the next class."
