Dasha Analysis — Checking Which Dasha Applies

Before reading Vimshottari the teacher goes down the list of conditional dashas on Bill Gates' chart:

• None applies. "We don't have to look anywhere. Just use normal good old Vimshottari dasha."
• Gates is running Sun dasha at the time of the class (2005).

The Student's Chart — Shatabdika Applies

• Lagna is in Virgo in both rasi and navamsa — vargottama. Varga = division, uttama = the best.
• So Shatabdika dasha applies, and the class switches to it for this chart (Parts 7–9).

Bill Gates — Sun Dasha

The teacher reads the same dasha in two vargas: the navamsa for dharma, the dasamsa for career.

In the Navamsa — Is It a Dasha for Dharma?

• In the D-9 (Taurus lagna) Sun is in the 9th house, in Capricorn. He is not well placed — an inimical sign — but he is in the 9th.
• Sun is a natural karaka of dharma. There are two: Jupiter the Brahmana, the thinker; Sun the Kshatriya, the king who gets things done through power.
• Sun is the biggest giver in the universe — light and heat to everybody, no strings attached.
• Sun is 3rd from A9 in the navamsa, a good place from an arudha. A9 is the manifestation of dharma.
• Sun is in the 7th from the navamsa AL. By Part 3: during Sun dasha he gets the image of a man opposed by powerful people, like governments, on grounds of dharma and law.
• That is the image. In fact, with Sun in the 9th, he does a lot of dharma in this dasha.

In the Dasamsa — What Happens to the Business?

D-10 lagna is Aquarius; Sun is in Capricorn.

• Sun is 7th lord in the 12th house, and the 12th is Sun's marana karaka sthana.
• The 7th is desires, business, partners. Its lord in marana karaka sthana → some giving up, some compromise, even some breakdown in the business.

"If you don't know anything and you were to make a guess based on the chart, you can guess that in Sun dasha his business will be broken into multiple units, or he will have to give up some control."

• Sun has argala on the 11th house (he is 2nd from it) → gains continue.
• Sun is in A3, the vikrama pada. The 3rd is initiative; A3 is its tangible form. When the dasha of a planet in A3 runs, people start companies, new ventures, new products. So he starts new things in Sun dasha while compromising and giving something up in the business.
• Sun is in the 10th from AL (Aries) → the world sees him exercising power and influence.
• Summary of the dasha for career: some losses.

Tithi Pravesha 2005 in D-10 — The Career Year

D-10 lagna of the year is Capricorn.

• Hora Lord Jupiter in the 10th house (Libra), a good house for Jupiter. He will be wise at the workplace — whether people see him as wise is a different matter; this is from lagna.
• Dharma-Karmadhipati yoga: 10th lord Venus and 9th lord Mercury are together in the 9th. Lagna lord Saturn is opposite, in the 3rd. Lagna lord, 5th-and-10th lord and 9th lord — the trinal lords — all sit on the 3rd/9th axis.
• 11th lord Mars in the 11th → gains.
• "This is an excellent year for career."

The One Doubtful Planet — Sun in the 8th

• Sun in the 8th is generally bad. But he is in his own sign: 8th lord in the 8th is Sarala yoga (Part 15).
• Sun is in Yama amsa of the D-10. Yama is the lord of dharma: dharma followed without passion, with discipline and no emotion.
• Every planet gives its results in its own way. The solar way is magnanimous and authoritative; Leo is the sign of kings. Moon gives his results the lunar way, without that authority.

"He will not tell, 'I think that is wrong.' He will tell, 'That is wrong.'"

• Sun is in A10, and A10 is the title at the workplace. Sun in the 8th shows change. So in Sun's period: a change of workplace or of the kind of work, possibly for the better.
• Ghati Lagna is with him, which shows promotion. Some promotion is possible "assuming that everything is accurate" — not certain.
• The nodes are the weak point. Rahu is in the 7th: relationship problems, or business problems for one in business. Ketu is of concern but not too bad; he is 11th lord. Most other planets are well placed.

Harsha, Sarala and Vimala Yogas

A dusthana lord in his own dusthana gives a named yoga. Remember the order.

"The names are supposed to give you clues. They don't just go to the dictionary and select a random name."

• Harsha = cheerful (more than merely happy). Sarala = straight line. Vimala = pure.
• For Sarala the teacher gives a Telugu phrase: you just do what you believe in.
• Modify by the planet. The people he knows with Harsha yoga have it from Jupiter or Venus. With Mars as 6th lord in the 6th the cheer has some fire in it.
• In this class only Sarala yoga is shown in a chart — Sun in Leo in the 8th of the 2005 annual D-10 (Part 14). Harsha and Vimala are defined, not illustrated.

The Student's Career Transits from the Natal D-10 Moon

Natal D-10 Moon is in Capricorn. Transits as of April 2005:

• The last 2.5 years were good for his career on the whole.
• With Rahu now in the 3rd, Saturn, Jupiter and Rahu are all favourable. Jupiter leaves in September; Saturn is about to move to Cancer. "Right now is the best period for him" — the time to seek a promotion.
• Saturn in Cancer = 7th from the D-10 Moon: some of the luck slows, and relations with some people at the workplace suffer.
• This agrees with the annual chart: Rahu in the 7th of the 2005 annual D-10 (Part 14). "There is a correlation between the Tithi Pravesha and the transit."
• Advice: take care not to strain any relationship at work, particularly after the birthday. Rahu and Jupiter stay good, so it is still a fortunate year.

Prayer at the Start of the Year

• The new year begins at the Tithi Pravesha moment — 3:43:51 PM India time on June 6, 2005. Convert it to wherever you will be at that moment.
• Pray from half an hour before to half an hour after that moment. It makes an auspicious start to the year.
• Whom? The Hora Lord. Jupiter shows Jagannatha — "just say Jai Jai Jagannatha", or the Jagannatha Ashtakam.
• For career in particular: the best yoga of the year's D-10 is the Dharma-Karmadhipati yoga of Venus and Mercury. It falls in the 5th from Arudha Lagna — the abilities the world sees you to have.
• Venus with Mercury shows Lakshmi-Narayana. Go to a Lakshmi-Narayana temple and have a puja done to Lakshmi, Narayana or both; and pray to Jagannatha.
