Arudha Longitude Debate: Reflect Exact Degrees (Not Just Count Rashis) → AL Unrestricted; Gayatri Attachment Indicators: Sun on Lagna/LL + Hasta Nakshatra + Jupiter-Ketu on Lagna; Gandanta Rule: NO Gemstone — Propitiate Only; Deepam Trataka = Sun Strengthening Without Ritual

Arudha longitude debate: Two approaches exist — (1) Rasi-based traditional: count signs and reflect same number of signs (current practice); (2) Longitude-based: reflect exact longitude of lord, compute exact longitude of Arudha. Example: Lagna = 8°47' Aquarius, Saturn = 29°3' Leo → distance = ~200° → reflect from Saturn = 19° Pisces → falls in 2nd house from lagna (not 1st or 7th as sign-counting gives). Implication: "AL-A7 in Shashtashtaka (6-8 axis) becomes more common with longitude-based calculation as AL is no longer restricted to certain houses." PVNR position: "Experimenting; not yet fully committed. BPHS Santhanam says 'count rashis' but other versions say 'count houses.' Needs more testing." Gayatri attachment indicators: Sun aspecting Lagna or Lagna lord (Savita connection); Lagna or Moon in Hasta nakshatra (Savita's nakshatra); Jupiter+Ketu Kaphari on Lagna (obstruction from both sides, as if both in lagna). PVNR's own chart: Lagna in Hasta; Sun in 7H aspecting lagna; Jupiter in 2H+Ketu in 12H = Kaphari on lagna. Vivekananda: Sun in Lagna (Sagittarius), Moon in Hasta. Mantra grammar note: "Om Hri Surya Aditya Om" = Prathamā (nominative/declarative = 'Sun is'); "Hare Rama" = Sambodhana (vocative = calling/addressing); both valid but different devotional expressions. Gandanta gem rule: "When a planet is in Gandanta, do NOT strengthen it with gemstone — strengthening brings agitated, troubled energy directly to you. Propitiate first (Aditya Hridayam for Sun), strengthen later if needed." Deepam trataka: "Light a candle, sit in front of it, gaze without blinking, contemplate God in any form — that is strengthening the Sun inside you. For those not inclined toward mantras, just staring at the candle with God in mind is sufficient." Surya Namaskara (morning, facing sun) = additional Sun-strengthening option.

"For those not interested in religion — just light a candle, sit in front of it, and keep looking at it. That is deepam trataka. That strengthens the Sun inside you. You do not need to chant anything. Just gaze and think of God in whatever terms you understand him. If you are with the Sun, the Sun will be with you."

Arudha Calculation — Longitude Debate

Two approaches exist (Sanjay Rath taught both):

  1. Rasi-based (traditional): count signs from house lord to the same number of signs; result same as current practice
  2. Longitude-based: use exact longitude of the lord; compute the reflected point with exact longitude; result can differ by ±30°

Example (from lesson, Aquarius example):

  • Lagna = 8°47' Aquarius; Lagna lord Saturn = 29°3' Leo
  • Distance from Lagna to Saturn = 180° + (29° – 8.47°) ≈ 200°
  • Reflect same distance from Saturn forward: Saturn 29° Leo + 200° = 19° Pisces (approximately)
  • Bhava Chakra: 1st house = 8°47' Aquarius to 8°47' Pisces; so 19° Pisces falls in 2nd house
  • Result: Arudha Lagna = 19° Pisces (in 2nd house from Lagna), NOT in the same sign (Lagna or 7th) as traditional method would give

Implication: Traditionally, AL-A7 being in Shashtashtaka (6-8 axis) is rare. With longitude-based calculation, it becomes more common because AL is no longer restricted to certain houses from Lagna.

PVNR's current position: Experimenting; not yet fully committed to longitude-based Arudhas. The Santhanam BPHS says "count rashis" but other versions say "count houses." Needs more testing.

Gayatri Attachment — Astrological Indicators

When asked why some people have deep connection to Gayatri mantra:

  • Not: Rasi chakra = Bhava chakra (no astrological basis for that claim)
  • Yes: These actual indicators:
FactorIndicator
Sun influenceSun aspecting Lagna or Lagna lord (Savita)
Hasta nakshatraLagna in Hasta, OR Moon in Hasta (Savita's nakshatra)
Jupiter + KetuKaphari (obstruction of Lagna from both sides), or in Lagna / 5th house

PVNR's own chart: Lagna in Hasta nakshatra; Sun in 7th house aspecting Lagna; Jupiter in 2nd + Ketu in 12th = Kaphari on Lagna (as if both in Lagna) Swami Vivekananda: Sun in Lagna (Sagittarius), Atmakaraka; Moon in Hasta (10th/9th house)

Mantra grammar: "Om Hri Surya Aditya Om" is in Prathamā vibhakti (nominative/predicative case) — simply declaring "Sun is". Unlike "Hare Rama" which is Sambodhana (vocative) — calling/addressing the deity. Both are valid but different bhakti expressions.
