Jayalalithaa's Chart — the Data and the Question

The Birth Time and Its Rectification

• February 24, 1948, 2:36:20 PM IST, 80°E18′, 13°N05′ (Madras).
• The coordinates are probably wrong: PVNR believes she was born in Karnataka (Mysore), not Madras. The published chart was given for Madras, so he used that. The lagna was rectified with these coordinates, so the rectification compensates. Change the place and the time must change with it.
• A student had 2:34 PM, the time in Sanjay Rath's book, which gives Sagittarius lagna in the daśāṁśa. PVNR disagrees: "We had a big argument. Finally, neither of us could convince the other."
• His position: daśāṁśa lagna is Capricorn and Ghatika Lagna in the daśāṁśa is Aries. With Sagittarius he cannot explain the entertainment career or the timing of the events of her life.
• Her data is not in dispute otherwise. She does not hide her chart. Karunanidhi gives out three different charts so that nobody can use the right one against him.

Two Possibilities

The Tamil Nadu public prosecutor calls the Swami a criminal. Jayalalithaa says she is only doing her duty, her dharma.

1. She is wrong. She held a grudge and exploited a small opportunity to the fullest. The media gave two stories: a quarrel over the purchase of hospitals in Madras, and an interview in which he called her arrogant and egoistic.
2. He did commit crimes and she is following her dharma, pained at having to imprison somebody she respected.

"As astrologers, you should always consider all the possibilities. You should not be biased."

First check that the chart makes sense. Then see which is more likely.

Reading Rahu Dasha in the Daśāṁśa

She is running Rahu mahadasha. In the daśāṁśa Rahu is in the 12th house in Sagittarius with Jupiter.

Whose Results Does Rahu Give?

• Two conjoined planets give each other's results. Rahu gives Jupiter's results.
• Jupiter is the 12th lord in the 12th in his own sign. The 12th is a bad house, but this is a good yoga (Vimala Yoga). Jupiter is well placed.
• So Rahu dasha is a good dasha overall for career.

Rahu–Jupiter Antardasha

• Rahu gives Jupiter's results, so Jupiter's antardasha gives Rahu's.
• Jupiter would have been better off alone. Rahu pulls him down: Guru-Chandala Yoga.
• "You may think that Jupiter is good, but actually he acts like Rahu." A bad antardasha.
• What happened: she supported the BJP government in the Lok Sabha. In April 1999 she withdrew support from the Vajpayee government, hoping (the story went) to become Prime Minister with Sonia Gandhi's help. Nobody could form a government. Parliament was dissolved. In the fresh elections she lost; the DMK won. She was left with a majority neither in Parliament nor in the Tamil Nadu Assembly.
• She destroyed the good fortune the previous antardasha had given her.

Rahu–Saturn Antardasha

• Saturn is lagna lord, placed in the 11th house of gains. The lagna lord works for lagna wherever he is.
• A student objects that he is retrograde. That only means a lot of effort is needed.
• He is also a Yogada (Part 7).
• So this antardasha pulls her up again. The Bhoga confirms it (Part 8).

Yogada and Maha Yogada

Definition

• A planet that connects lagna and Ghatika Lagna — by owning, occupying or aspecting them with rāśi dṛṣṭi — is a Yogada for power.
• A planet that connects lagna and Hora Lagna in the same way is a Yogada for money.
• Maha Yogada: a planet that owns, occupies or aspects lagna, Ghatika Lagna and Hora Lagna — all three. Power and money together. The recording does not define it; this is from the published class notes.

In Jayalalithaa's Daśāṁśa

• Take Ghatika Lagna in Aries, as PVNR does.
• Saturn in Scorpio owns lagna (Capricorn), aspects it by rāśi dṛṣṭi and by graha dṛṣṭi (the 3rd aspect), and has rāśi dṛṣṭi on Aries. He is a Yogada.
• Mars is the other Yogada: lord of Aries, placed in Leo, with rāśi dṛṣṭi on both Aries and Capricorn.

Ghatika Lagna Is Sensitive

• It is computed from the minutes elapsed since sunrise, so it depends on the definition of sunrise.
• It moves five times as fast as lagna. In the daśāṁśa it changes sign about every two minutes.
• In class the software put Ghatika Lagna of the daśāṁśa in Pisces with 2:36:20 PM. The site's chart shows the same. PVNR: the time needs a small adjustment; from all the times she got power he holds that it is Aries. With Pisces, Saturn would not be a Yogada.
• "PP" on the chart is Prāṇapada Lagna. It moves faster than everything else and is very unlikely to be correct. Ignore it.

Bhoga Formula — What Is Experienced in a Dasha/Antardasha

Saturn is a good planet. Will every Saturn antardasha bring power? No. The link between dasha and antardasha decides.

The Formula

1. From the dasha lord, count signs to the antardasha lord.
2. Count the same number of signs from the antardasha lord.
3. That sign is the Bhoga — what is experienced in the antardasha.
4. See which house from lagna it is. Not from the dasha lord.

"From the dasha lord, count signs up to the antardasha lord. Count the same number of signs from the antardasha lord. That is the Bhoga. That is what is experienced."

Paka vs. Bhoga

• Paka = the sign where the antardasha lord sits. What you are cooking: where you put your effort and apply your intelligence.
• Bhoga = what you eat after cooking: what you experience.

How to Judge the Bhoga

• Bhoga in lagna, the 5th, 9th or 10th: be confident. The good planet delivers.
• Bhoga in the 8th: be suspicious. A good antardasha, but perhaps not good enough to make her Chief Minister again.
• In the rāśi chart, if the Bhoga falls in the sign that holds Upapada Lagna (UL), marriage can take place in that dasha/antardasha.

Rahu Dasha in Her Daśāṁśa (Rahu in Sagittarius)

• Saturn: the Bhoga is with Moon, a benefic and the planet of the masses, in the 10th — Rājyasthāna, the house of the crown. This is the antardasha that pulls her up again.
• Mercury (running now): the 4th is comfort, happiness, satisfaction. A student points out that Ghatika Lagna is there. It counts. Becoming Chief Minister is one thing; exercising the power is another. Ghatika Lagna is authority shown and used. With Ghatika Lagna in the Bhoga, what she experiences is "I have the power".
• Ketu, then Venus: losses. She continues to feel powerful for a few more months. After that come setbacks, and the results of the bad karma she is engaging in now.

Mercury Antardasha Also Brings Enemies

• Mercury owns the 6th and the 9th in the daśāṁśa. Ketu sits in the 6th; Ketu in the 6th gives many enemies, and Mercury as its owner can give that result.
• She has many enemies in general and gets new ones in Mercury antardasha. Ketu and Venus antardashas will be worse.
• A student asks whether Mercury's retrogression changes this. It does not.

Retrograde and Exaltation Rule

• A student calls it a double negative. PVNR accepts that.
• The rule came up in the 2005 annual chart: Jupiter, 5th lord of the annual daśāṁśa, is debilitated in Capricorn and retrograde. That is good.
• It came up again in 2006: Saturn is retrograde in a normal sign. It does not matter.
• In any chart a retrograde planet means more effort is needed in that area (house) of life. The dignity does not change.
• For natal Saturn, retrograde in the 11th of the daśāṁśa, PVNR says only that a lot of effort is needed.
