Natural Years of Planets — Child Timing Predictions

Parashara uses the natural years of planets to predict the age at which a native gets a child when specific combinations are present.

PVNR note: There are two lists in use; different sources give slightly different numbers. The ones Parashara uses in these verses are specific to this purpose.

Verse 18: Jupiter in 5H + 5th Lord with Venus → Child Around 32nd Year

• Jupiter in the 5th house (karaka placed in his natural house)
• 5th lord conjoined with Venus

→ Child arrives around the 32nd year of the native's life (Venus's natural year = 32)

Why Venus gives the timing?: Venus is conjunct the 5th lord, so she becomes the timing trigger. Her natural year (32) = when the 5th house fructifies.

Verse 19: 5th Lord in Kendra + Jupiter → Child in 30th or 36th Year

• 5th lord in a kendra (quadrant)
• Jupiter is the timing planet (either in 5H or as karaka)

→ Child around the 36th year (Jupiter's natural year = 36); some versions say 30th year

Application: When the 5th lord is well-placed and Jupiter is the prominent influence, use Jupiter's natural year as the timing.

Verse 20: Jupiter in 9H + Venus in 5H → Child in 40th Year

Alternate combination for late child:

• Jupiter in the 9th house
• Venus in the 5th house

OR:

• Venus with the lagna lord (Venus becomes significant to the whole chart)

→ Child arrives around the 40th year of life

Why 40th year?: This is Saturn's natural year in some traditional lists (40 or 36). When Jupiter is in 9H (away from 5H) and Venus is in 5H, Saturn may be the residual timing planet. Or the combination of both planets' years averages out to ~40.

Verse 21: Rahu in 5H + 5th Lord with Functional Malefics + Jupiter Debilitated → Child Loss in 32nd Year

Conditions:

• Rahu in the 5th house
• 5th lord with functional malefics
• Jupiter debilitated (no karaka protection)

→ If a child is born, it dies in the native's 32nd year (Putra mrutyu at 32)

Why 32nd year?: Venus's natural year = 32. Rahu (deception/eclipse) in 5H + Jupiter weak = the 5th house is severely afflicted. The timing of the loss = Venus's natural year.

Verse 22: Functional Malefics in 5th from Jupiter AND 5th from Lagna → Child Loss in 24th/33rd/36th Year

A more complex rule:

• Functional malefics occupy the 5th from both Jupiter AND from lagna
• Both "5th positions" are under attack simultaneously

→ Loss of child in the native's 24th, 33rd, or 36th year (variant timings based on other factors in the chart)

Note: Three possible timings given — which applies depends on which planet most dominates the 5th house affliction.

Verse 23: Mandi + Tama (Rahu) in Lagna → Grief from Child in 56th Year

"Lagnasthe mandi tamasa, shdapanchashat varshe..."

• Mandi (Gulika) in the lagna
• Rahu (Tama) in the lagna
• Both together in the first house

→ Grief due to a child in the native's 56th year

Why lagna?: These two shadow-malefics in lagna bring their negative influences to the whole chart; the 5th house (children) gets affected especially. The 56th year corresponds to... likely Rahu or a Ketu-related natural year in the extended system.

Key Synthesis: Child Timing System

The pattern across verses 18–23:

• When a planet is the key planet for the 5th house (either as lord, karaka, or significant planet in/aspecting 5H), its natural year becomes the timing for the child event
• "Event" can be birth of child OR loss of child — depends on whether the combination is positive or negative
• This creates a predictive timing tool: identify the key 5th house planet → look up its natural year → that age = child event

PVNR's application advice: These timings are from D1 only. Cross-check with D7 (Saptamsa) for confirmation. If D7 shows a child as likely and D1 gives the year, the prediction becomes more confident.
