Prasna Modes: 108 (Navamsa Number) vs 249 (KP Sub-Segments) vs Nadi 1800 (All 16 Vargas Fixed); KP = Most Successful Prasna Astrologer (Predicted Bus Times to the Minute); Prasna = Divination NOT Science: Faith + Consistency Determines Accuracy
Three prasna modes: (1) Prasna 108 — ask querent for number 1-108 (navamsa number); take middle longitude of that navamsa as prasna lagna; reliable for Rasi + Navamsa only; higher divisions arbitrary. (2) Prasna 249 (KP) — ask for number 1-249 (nakshatra sub-segments); derive prasna lagna longitude; Krishnamurti Paddhati used this; "KP was reportedly the most successful prasna astrologer of the last 100 years — predicted bus/electricity arrival times to the minute; a devotee of Chitragrupta." (3) Nadi Prasna (PVNR) — ask for number 1-1800 (150 nadis per Rasi × 12); each nadi captures specific Shodasha Varga positions because it represents a point where at least one divisional chart sign changes; "most complete — all Shodasha Vargas fixed reliably." Prasannavarga text: "most reliable systematic prasna rules; Dr. B.V. Raman's translation recommended; author was an elevated Nambudiri astrologer whose rules have power from an elevated soul setting them for the world." Core principle: "Prasna is more divination than science. It is subjective — depends on your relationship with God. Pick a set of rules, stick to them, and ask God to answer through that scheme." Natal vs Prasna: "Natal chart = scientific rules, reproducible; wrong rule = consistently wrong result. Prasna = person's faith + relationship with God determines whether the scheme works for them." Bhoga technique (for dasha antardasha): from Dasha lord, count 6th house → Antardasha lord should fall there; 6th house from Antardasha lord = result house for that sub-period. Example: Mercury MD → count 6th from Mercury; if Rahu = Antardasha, 6th from Rahu = Pisces → results in Pisces house area. Gregorian numbers (9-9-09, etc.): completely arbitrary calendar; "why does August have 31 days? Papal edicts. 999 and 12-12-12 mean nothing astrologically; Indian systems (tithi, nakshatra, solar/lunar markers) have astronomical logic — those matter."
"Prasna is not like natal astrology where the rules are objective and a wrong rule gives consistently wrong results. Prasna is divination. It depends on your relationship with God. Pick a set of rules, be consistent, and ask God to answer through your scheme. Whether the answer comes depends on your faith and sincerity, not just technical correctness. KP was one of the most successful because he was deeply devoted to Chitragrupta."

Prasna Modes — 108, 249, Nadi
| Mode | Method | Reliability |
|---|---|---|
| Prasna 108 | Ask querent for number 1–108 (navamsa number); take middle longitude of that navamsa as prasna lagna | Only Rasi + Navamsa reliable; higher divisions arbitrary |
| Prasna 249 (KP) | Ask for number 1–249 (nakshatra sub segments); derive prasna lagna longitude from that sub | Rasi + Navamsa; KP used this and was most successful prasna astrologer in last 100 years |
| Nadi Prasna (PVNR) | Ask for number 1–1800 (150 nadis per Rasi × 12); each nadi captures specific Shodasha Varga positions | Most complete; all Shodasha Vargas fixed reliably |
How 1800 nadis work: Take all 16 divisional chart positions of a point; as the longitude moves and any divisional chart sign changes, a new nadi begins. Result: exactly 150 such nadis per Rasi (150 × 12 = 1800 total).
KP reference: Krishnamurti was reportedly the most successful prasna astrologer of the last 100 years — predicted bus/electricity arrival times to the minute. He was a devotee of Chitragrupta. His KP method uses 249-sub + significators, but not more divisional charts.
Prasannavarga: Most recommended text for systematic prasna rules. Dr. B.V. Raman's translation is reliable. Author = elevated Nambudiri astrologer; rules have "power" from an elevated soul setting them for the world.
Key principle:
— PVNR"Prasna is more divination than science. It is subjective — depends on your relationship with God. Pick a set of rules, stick to them, and ask God to answer through that scheme."
- Natal chart: scientific rules, reproducible; wrong rule = consistently wrong result
- Prasna: person's faith + relationship with God determines whether the scheme works for them
September 9, 2009 (999) — No Astrological Significance
Student asks about 9-9-09 date significance.
PVNR's response:
- Gregorian calendar is entirely arbitrary (Why does August have 31 days? Why does January start a year?)
- If August had 30 days, "September 9" would shift by 1 day
- The year/month/day system evolved arbitrarily through Roman and papal edicts
- "This means nothing. 999, 1010, 111111 mean nothing based on this calendar."
Indian systems have structure:
- Tithi, nakshatra, solar/lunar year markers — all have astronomical logic
- Any year with notable planetary combinations matters; not because of the date number but because of actual planetary positions
2012 note: December 2012 does have interesting planetary combinations, but not because of 12-12-12 — because of actual transit patterns at that time.
