Autism Chart (2002, Cancer Lagna) — Moon Rasi Sandhi + Near-Eclipse by Rahu, D24 Mandi in 5H, Prasna Drekkana = Future & Gemstone vs Prayer Rule

A six-year-old boy with autism who does not yet speak (Jan 25, 2002; Cancer lagna, time not rectified). Lagna lord Moon sits in the first degree of Gemini in the 12th, 20 minutes from 8th lord Rahu, while Jupiter is 13° away and cannot protect him. D30 has Moon with both nodes in a sign of Mars; D24 (Libra lagna) has Mandi and Gulika in the 5th and the 5th co-lord Rahu with Moon in the Badhakasthana, and Rahu dasha runs from 2005 to 2023. The page then covers the remedies: Chandi for Rahu done by the parents themselves, why a gemstone strengthens a planet’s influence and not the planet, why pearl and yellow sapphire are rejected and red coral for yogakaraka Mars is chosen, and how to wear it. A prasna cast in class (Navamsa = past, Rasi = present, Drekkana = future) and the Tithi Pravesha charts of 2008 and 2009 close the reading.

Key principle

Don’t think that wearing a gemstone will strengthen the planet. No, it will strengthen his influence on your life. The best thing for Moon in this case is not wearing the gemstone. It is actually to pray.

Example Charts

Autism Case (2002)
Jan 25, 2002 · 4:04 PM EST · given time, not rectified
Rasi: Cancer lagna about 4°. Moon (lagna lord) at 0°50' Gemini in the 12th with Rahu at 1°10' and Jupiter at 13°40'. Yogakaraka Mars in Pisces in the 9th aspects Moon by his 4th-house graha drishti. D30 (Taurus lagna): Moon with Rahu and Ketu in Aries, the 12th. D24 (Libra lagna): Venus, Jupiter and Saturn in Gemini in the 9th; Moon, Rahu and Ketu in Leo, the 11th and Badhakasthana, aspecting the empty 5th, Aquarius; Mars in the 6th. D6 (Libra lagna): Mars in the 3rd with Venus, Sun and Saturn. Navamsa lagna Leo.

Sagittarius lagna with Jupiter and 6th lord Venus in it. Hora lord Moon is 8th lord in the 6th, Taurus. A mixed year. The class reads Jupiter as D24 lagna lord in the 4th; this chart’s D24 lagna is Gemini because its moment is a few minutes later than the one used in class.
Time:
Autism Case — Tithi Pravesha 2009
Feb 6, 2009 · 10:26:14 AM EST · annual chart. The class software put this moment some minutes earlier, so the D24 lagna differs.
Aries lagna. Hora lord Saturn, the Badhaka lord, is in the 5th, Leo. Lagna lord Mars is exalted in the 10th at 7° with Sun, Jupiter and Rahu at 15°. Better than 2008 for learning. In D24 Venus is with Sun and Mercury with the nodes, as in class, but the D24 lagna here is Capricorn, not the Libra the class reads.

Autism Chart — January 25, 2002

The Case

  • A boy, six and a half at the time of the class, with autism. He still does not speak, beyond a word or two.
  • Lagna about 4° Cancer. Moon at 0°50' Gemini.
  • The time is the given time. With no events in a five-year-old life there is nothing to rectify against, so the lagna may be off by a few minutes and "the lagna may be inaccurate in a few divisional charts."

Rasi Chart

Moon — lagna lord in the 12th house, at 0°50' Gemini:

  • First degree of a sign. "This is not Gandanta or anything, but still this is a Rasi Sandhi, which is weak. He is basically in Balavastha. He is in deep infancy."
  • Moon is the karaka of mind and also the lagna lord, so he matters for overall health as well.

Moon joins Jupiter and Rahu in Gemini:

  • Jupiter owns the 9th (protection, fortune) and the 6th (disease). A mixed planet, not a great malefic, and a good friend of Moon. A friend who wants to harm you and also help you can be talked into only helping.
  • 6th lord with lagna lord is always a bad yoga, but Moon–Jupiter friendship negates most of it. Had the two been alone it would have been okay.
  • Jupiter is at 13°40' Gemini — far from Moon. Rahu is at 1°10'. Moon and Rahu are 20 minutes apart and approaching each other.
  • Rahu causes the eclipse of Moon and is his natural enemy. Here he owns Aquarius, the 8th from Cancer: obstacles, big and long-lasting diseases.
  • "Moon is basically badly hammered by Rahu, and Jupiter's protection is unable to reach him."

Gajakesari Yoga: with Moon at 1° and Jupiter at 14° the yoga would have worked only moderately even without Rahu, but it would still have been desirable. Rahu sits between them, hates both, and is the 8th lord. The yoga is spoiled.

Mars — yogakaraka (5th + 10th lord) in the 9th house, Pisces:

  • A yogakaraka in the 9th is very auspicious. Jupiter is his dispositor and his friend, so Jupiter has great potential that is not being harnessed.
  • Mars at 11° has his 4th-house graha drishti on Moon at 1°. Ten degrees apart, so not a strong aspect, but it is there.

First reading of remedies: Moon is to be strengthened, Rahu pacified, Jupiter strengthened because the 9th is the house of God and protection. (The gemstone discussion in Part 2 narrows this: no stone for Moon or Jupiter.)

Mrityu Bhaga: the software flagged one point in Mrityu Bhaga. With an unrectified time the degree may be off, so he gives it no weight.

D30 Trimsamsa

D30 shows the subconscious forces behind behaviour. Look for weakness of Moon and Mercury.

"In all the autism charts we have seen, or any kind of mental problems, we have seen that Moon is afflicted either by nodes or Saturn or Mars or probably a couple of malefics, not just one."

  • Here Moon is with both Rahu and Ketu in Aries, the 12th house of D30 (Taurus lagna) — hidden disease, hospitalization.
  • Sign quality: an afflicted planet in a sign of Jupiter, Venus or Mercury can overcome the affliction more easily. In a sign of Mars or Saturn (Aries, Scorpio, Capricorn, Aquarius) the affliction is more pronounced and tough to overcome.
  • Moon is in a sign of Mars with both nodes. Problematic.

Which Dasha

He runs the conditional-dasha checks first: lagna lord in the 7th? No. 7th lord in lagna? No. 10th lord in the 10th? No. Lagna vargottama? No — navamsa lagna is Leo, though it would be Cancer (vargottama) if birth were 3 minutes 18 seconds earlier. Taking the time as given, Vimshottari applies.

Vimshottari Dasha

  • Rahu dasha from 2005, age 3; an 18-year period. Rahu is the 8th lord of the rasi chart and afflicts the lagna lord. A dasha of suffering, not of recovery. The parents probably realized the problem and began seeing doctors around the start of Rahu dasha.
  • Jupiter dasha comes in 2023 and is good, "but unfortunately we can't wait till then."
  • Rahu–Rahu ran until November 2007: the worst time for mental growth.
  • Rahu–Jupiter runs until March 2010. Jupiter is the 9th lord, so this is the antardasha in which remedies have a chance of working.

"Dasa lord is basically the boss. Antardasa lord is like somebody working under him... So Rahu will have the final say, but still Jupiter can fight with him and give his results if he really wants to."

  • It will not happen automatically. Relief needs remedies. "I am more positive in the current period than before November 2007."

D24 Siddhamsa — Learning

For a learning disability there has to be a problem in D24.

Lagna on a border: D24 lagna is Libra. Birth 1 minute 12 seconds earlier makes it Virgo.

  • With Virgo: lagna lord Mercury sits unafflicted in fruitful Cancer in the 11th; 4th lord Jupiter, 9th lord Venus and 5th lord Saturn are together in the 10th, a quadrant — a fine yoga. Moon–Rahu–Ketu fall in the 12th. The 4th and 5th lords are too well placed to explain autism.
  • He keeps the given time and shows that Libra explains it.

Moon with the nodes is not enough: Moon is with Rahu and Ketu in D24 whatever the lagna, and in many people's charts. Such a person's mind may jump elsewhere while studying, yet he still learns. The lagna decides how serious it is.

Weaknesses with Libra lagna:

  • Lagna lord Venus is in the 9th but joins Jupiter — his enemy and the 3rd + 6th lord. A bad yoga, a weakness in the foundation. Not enough by itself to say autism. (Venus is also 8th lord, as for every Libra lagna; judge him as lagna lord.)
  • 5th house, Aquarius: no planets, but Mandi and Gulika are there.

"The two upagrahas, the sub-planets, the satellites, the sons of Saturn, Mandi and Gulika. These are the two sons of Saturn who are more evil than Saturn."

  • 5th lord Saturn is with Jupiter. The other lord of Aquarius, Rahu, is with his enemy Moon in Leo, the 11th — the Badhakasthana. "Any evil combinations in the Badhakasthana are even more evil."
  • Rahu aspects the 5th house from Leo (7th-house graha drishti). Rahu is no karaka of intelligence; he is an enemy of Jupiter, and Jupiter and Mercury are the karakas of the 5th in matters of learning.

Strengths: lagna lord in the 9th; Jupiter, all said and done, is a benefic; the yogakaraka Saturn (4th + 5th lord) joins the lagna lord in the 9th — "a great blessing."

"This person's learning is starting very slowly, but his problem will be solved and he will start learning and make some progress when it comes to education. He will have some education. He will not be totally uneducated."

The catch: the dasha running is Rahu's — the 5th co-lord sitting in the Badhakasthana — and it has fifteen more years to go. Remedies for Rahu are a must.

Vaiseshikamsa — Strong Is Not Good

A student noted Rahu's high Vaiseshikamsa. (The student's software showed a slightly different count; the teacher put it down to a different ayanamsa setting shifting a longitude.)

  • Vaiseshikamsa counts, within a varga group (6, 7, 10 or 16 charts), in how many the planet is in own, exaltation or moolatrikona sign. Higher count, stronger planet.
  • "Strong doesn't mean good. There may be a local strongman who may be your enemy."
  • Rahu here is strong and outright evil: 8th lord afflicting the lagna lord, not even mixed like Jupiter.

Narayana Dasha

  • The dashas start from the 7th house. The first dasha is still running; Sagittarius comes next.
  • Since this is a progression of the 7th house, Sagittarius dasha gives the results of Gemini: treat Gemini as lagna. The Moon–Jupiter–Rahu combination is then in lagna. The dasha after it has Ketu in its lagna.
  • "Looks like some more suffering." Bad dashas by both Narayana and Vimshottari for another decade or so. Progress will be slow.

Remedies for the Child — Chandi, Gemstone vs Prayer, Red Coral

Rahu Needs a Fierce Deity

"He is a very evil planet. He needs a very fierce god or goddess, not somebody very sattvic, very delicate, tender kind of god. He needs some fierce energy. So Durga or Chandi will be perfect."

  • Chandi Path (the 700 verses), or a mantra or stotra of Durga. The boy cannot do it; someone does it on his behalf.

A student's objection — the parents will not do something this long:

  • A remedy burns karma, and that cannot be done by magic. Rahu remembers karma from a previous life. If someone is coming to hit you and your hands are tied, another hand can take the blow — but that hand is hurt too. Some pain has to be taken.
  • "Serious problems like this require serious remedies." Five minutes of meditation will not do it.
  • Minimum: the Saptashloki (seven verses of the 700) for an hour every day, plus half an hour learning the full Chandi Path. The 700 verses are a more balanced prayer than the seven.
  • Give something that takes two minutes and people repeat it for ten and stop. Say clearly: at least an hour, preferably an hour and a half, daily to a fierce deity.
  • Even the effort of learning it, a chapter a day, is part of the sadhana.
  • "Not all problems are solvable. But to whatever extent the problem is solvable, it will be solved."

Hire a Priest, or Do It Yourself?

A student proposed engaging someone to do Chandi homam continuously — the family at least spends money and sits through it. The teacher is not in favour.

  • A priest must take the right sankalpa and be able to transfer the energy he generates — to hold this person's problem in mind and feel the pain. If he does it as a job, nothing happens, however elaborate the materials and however big the fire.
  • A pure priest who does it with devotion gets the result however imperfectly he does it. "Such priests are rare to find in today's age."
  • A priest who takes money and gives no result becomes indebted to those he took it from.

"You are better off doing your own sadhana, your own penance, however imperfect it is. Because at least if the father or mother is doing a prayer to God for this child, the mind is really focused on the problem. The mind feels the pain of the person."

  • "50% of the thing all comes from the devotion anyway." Perfect the verses as time goes on.
  • Should the boy listen to the Saptashloki? Fine if he is there, but do not force a small child. Someone reading it with devotion, with the child in mind, believing the goddess is in front of him, matters more.

Prayer vs. Wearing a Gemstone

Prayer is going to the person's house and asking.

  • If he is bad to you, he troubles you less.
  • If he is good to you but not working for you, he is motivated.
  • "Praying is like going to somebody's house and requesting, please spare me, or please help me."

Wearing a gemstone is bringing him to live in your house.

  • Bring a troublemaker home and he ruins the house. No malefic planets on the body.
  • Bring a well-wisher who is very weak and nothing changes. He was your well-wisher anyway.

"Don't think that wearing a gemstone will strengthen the planet. No, it will strengthen his influence on your life."

Which Stone for This Child

  • Pearl (Moon): not a bad idea in principle, and it can be worn, but Moon is so weak it is unlikely to make any difference. Moon's influence is already positive; he lacks the strength to deliver. "The best thing for Moon in this case is not wearing the gemstone. It is actually to pray."
  • Praying to Durga or Chandi (for Rahu) gives relief; praying to Moon is to fight back. Both can be done, but Rahu is the key.
  • Yellow sapphire (Jupiter): no — not alone and not with pearl. 6th lord in rasi; the problem planet for learning in D24; 8th lord in D30; 8th lord in navamsa (Leo lagna).
  • Red coral (Mars): yes.
    • Yogakaraka in rasi, in the 9th, aspecting Moon. 5th lord of Purva Punya and of intelligence.
    • D24: 7th lord in the 6th. A natural malefic in the 6th overcomes enemies.
    • D6 (Libra lagna): 2nd + 7th lord in the 3rd with the lagna lord, the 11th lord and the yogakaraka. Natural malefics in 3, 6, 11 show fight-back.
    • D30: 7th + 12th lord in the 5th. Not 6th or 8th lord.
    • Good in navamsa too.
    • Moon here is a waxing Moon close to full — a gentleman. Rahu is an evil person. "Mars is also like a very cruel person. He is a cruel person, but he is good to Moon. So to fight Rahu, Mars is the perfect foil."
  • The stone is optional. Chandi Path or Saptashloki is sufficient. "But if he wants to wear a gemstone, the best will be red coral."

Which Finger

  • Ring finger = dharma. Middle = artha. Little = kama. Index = moksha. The thumb is the self.
  • Well-being of the body is dharma, so the coral goes on the ring finger. (Marriage is for dharma, hence the wedding ring on that finger.)
  • The same scheme explains the mudras: thumb with ring finger fixes the mind on dharma; the middle finger is never used alone, because artha without dharma is a sin; thumb with index finger is for moksha.
  • For a small child the coral can hang on a chain round the neck.

When and How to Wear It

  • On the weekday of the planet — Tuesday for Mars — at sunrise, so that it is Mars's hora. Abhijit muhurta is of no use here; give them sunrise.
  • Keep the ring in the puja room for a week and chant a mantra before it for an hour every day.
  • On a Tuesday after the seven days, pray for an hour before sunrise with a Mars mantra — Om Mangalaya Namaha, the "Dharani-garbha-sambhutam" verse, or the Vedic mantra — or even plain words, "I pray to Mars, please help me." Then wear it.
  • Ideally the lagna and Mars's placement at that moment would be checked. In practice that cannot be controlled.

Prasna and Tithi Pravesha for the Child

Prasna — Is the Question Answerable

A prasna chart was cast in class: will there be improvement?

Two tests before reading a prasna:

  1. Jupiter must have to do with lagna — in lagna, aspecting lagna, aspecting the lagna lord, or with the lagna lord. Then the question is genuine and "stars are willing to answer." Here Jupiter is in lagna.
  2. The navamsa rising sign must have to do with the person's chart — his lagna, or the sign holding his lagna lord, etc. Here navamsa lagna is Cancer, the boy's natal lagna. Its lord Moon joins Jupiter in the prasna navamsa, as in the natal chart.

If the tests fail, skip the prasna.

Past, Present, Future

"The past is from Navamsa, the present is from Rasi, and the future is from Drekkana."

  • This is for prasna only. In a birth chart D3 shows siblings.
  • Use the regular Parashara Drekkana, not a variant.
  • Prasna navamsa (the past): lagna lord with the 6th lord; Badhaka lord Venus and 8th lord Saturn in lagna. It shows a health problem.

The Prasna Drekkana

  • Lagna has Moon. It is Shukla Shashthi, so Moon is a natural benefic — but as 4th lord, a benefic owning a quadrant, he is a functional malefic. Not that good.
  • Lagna lord Mars is in a trine with 9th lord Jupiter. "Lagna lord in a trine with the 9th lord is always showing promise." Remedies of Mars or Jupiter can give relief.
  • Rahu is in the 6th. Normally good, but for a movable lagna the 11th lord is the Badhakesha, and Rahu is that lord. Badhakesha in the 6th is bad.
  • Moon and Rahu problematic, Jupiter and Mars showing relief — the same picture as the birth chart.
  • "Earlier I wasn't very sure, but after seeing this also, I think we should suggest red coral" — with prayer to a fierce form of the Mother.

Tithi Pravesha 2008

  • Lagna Sagittarius. Hora lord (ruler of the year) Moon — 8th lord in the 6th. Not good.
  • Jupiter is in lagna, but so is 6th lord Venus, in an inimical sign.
  • In the teacher's D24 of the year Jupiter is lagna lord in the 4th house of learning — good, if the moment is accurate to about two minutes.
  • A mixed year. It does not solve the problem.

Tithi Pravesha 2009

  • Lagna Aries. Hora lord Saturn — Badhaka lord — in the 5th house of learning. Not so well placed.
  • Lagna lord Mars is exalted, with Sun and Jupiter: nice yogas. But Rahu, the other Badhaka lord, is with him — Mars at 7°, Rahu at 15° — "spoiling the party."
  • In the teacher's D24 of the year lagna lord Venus is afflicted by Badhaka lord Sun and combust, and Mercury is with Rahu–Ketu.
  • Still better than 2008. "The coming year, 2009, will be a better year" as far as learning goes.

The site's Tithi Pravesha charts match the class in the rasi chart and the hora lord for both years. The D24 lagna of each year comes out differently (Gemini for 2008, Capricorn for 2009): the teacher's software placed the Tithi Pravesha moment some minutes earlier, and D24 lagna changes every five minutes.
