BPHS Ch.25 — 11th Lord in Houses 4–6: Gains from Mother + Owns Property + Sudden Gains (4H), Happy Children + Passionately Dharmic (Dharmarataha) (5H) & Harasthana Yoga = Chronic Disease + Lives Abroad + Tormented by Enemies (6H)
11L in 4H: gains from mother's side (11L = gains in 4H = mother's house = "gains come through or because of mother; maternal family support or inheritance"); mother's health may suffer (from 4H-lagna, 11L = 8L in lagna = Maraka influence on mother's house); pilgrimages/worship (11L in 4H has Argala on 3H of travel = "gains through moving toward sacred places"); owns many houses and lands (11L = gains; 4H = property = "very literal: lord of gains in house of property"); sudden gains/windfalls (from 4H-lagna, 11L = 8L = sudden unexpected matters = "unexpected inheritances, sudden windfalls"). 11L in 5H: happy and learned children (from 5H-lagna, 11L = 7L in lagna = "children bless the person's own nature; children inherently happy and scholarly"); passionately dharmic — Dharmarataha (from 9H, 11L = 3L in 9H = Bhavat Bhavam of 9H = "dharma that compounds itself; deeply in love with dharma; uses desire-energy to pursue dharma"); emotionally happy (11L in 5H = desires fulfilled in emotional domain; "emotional satisfaction from fulfilling desires, both material and dharmic"). 11L in 6H: chronic disease — Harasthana yoga (from 6H-lagna, 11L = 6L in Bhavat Bhavam of 6H = "house of disease is strengthened by its own Bhavat Bhavam lord; disease that compounds itself; chronic recurring health problems throughout life"); relentless fighter (11L in 6H = fights like fighting for its own survival; "relentless to win, not just to defend"); lives abroad (11L = 7L from 5H = Maraka on 5H of belonging/motherland = "loses sense of belonging; 6H = foreign/difficult places"); tormented by enemies (11L = desired gains; in 6H = "enemies constantly thwart desires; 11H agenda is always being interfered with"). PVNR: "11L in 6H is not an easy placement. The desire-engine is in the arena of disease and enemies."
"The 11th lord in 6th — this is called Harasthana yoga. The 11th lord is the 6th from the 6th house; it is the Bhavat Bhavam of the 6th house. Disease compounds disease. The person has chronic, recurring health problems throughout their life. They also live abroad — the 11th lord is the Maraka of the 5th house of belonging, of roots. The sense of connection to one's motherland is eroded."
— P.V.R. Narasimha Rao
BPHS Chapter 25: 11th Lord in Houses 1–6
Philosophy: Why 3rd, 6th, 11th Lords Are Functional Malefics
Before the placements, PVNR explains the philosophical basis:
- Liberating houses (1, 4, 7, 10 = Kendras; 1, 5, 9 = Trikonas): These houses are about being — identity, happiness, dharma, fulfillment; their lords liberate the native
- Binding houses (3, 6, 11 = Upachaya/desire houses): These are about wanting, fighting, and getting
- 3rd house: Desire and initiative ("I want this")
- 6th house: Fight for it ("I will overcome obstacles to get it")
- 11th house: Get it at any cost ("I got it and I want more")
- These lords consume the resources of any house they touch in pursuit of their agenda
- They are not "evil" — but they are binding; they tie the native to worldly desires
- When 11th lord is placed in a house, that house's resources are partly "consumed" by the 11th house agenda of gains and desires
— PVNRPVNR: "The 11th lord is always looking for gains. It uses the house it is in as a resource to fulfill that agenda. It is not bad for the native per se, but it is not liberating — it binds you to the material world."
11th Lord in 1st House
Sanskrit results: Sattvic; wealthy; always happy (Sukhi); equal vision (Samadrishta); prominent/eloquent; always profitable
Explanation:
- Sattvic: 11th lord in lagna = Kendra lord; from 9th house (dharma), this is 3rd lord in 5th house → friend of dharma; person has a good character; "not a deep devotee necessarily, but a genuinely good person"
- Wealthy: 11th lord's agenda (gains) is placed in lagna; person actively drives wealth-seeking; from 2nd house, 9th lord is in 12th → Viparita-like yoga: wealth circulates, gets spent but comes back; also 11th lord has Argala on 2nd house → person uses himself/personality as the vehicle for wealth
- Always happy (Sukhi): From 4th house of happiness, 8th lord is in lagna = Viparita yoga from 4th house → despite setbacks, comfort is ultimately preserved; from 7th house, this is 5th lord in 7th = very good for partner relationships = happiness
- Equal vision (Samadrishti): From 5th house of emotional equilibrium, the 7th lord is in 9th house = interactions filled with dharma; person treats high and low with the same respect; "doesn't grovel before kings or look down on servants"
- Eloquent/prominent (Kavigata): 11th lord in lagna has Argala on 3rd house of expression; from 3rd house, 9th lord is in lagna = fortune for communications in lagna; person is naturally articulate and prominent
- Always profitable: The 11th lord is literally in the house of the native himself = persona is geared toward gains; the person doesn't need to struggle — opportunities come naturally
11th Lord in 2nd House
Sanskrit results: All types of wealth; all accomplishments; giver/philanthropic; fighter for dharma (Dharmayuddha Rati); always happy
Explanation:
- All types of wealth: 11th lord in 2nd = Argala (11th house) directly overlaps with 2nd house of wealth; 11th lord sitting in the seat of wealth = massive wealth; from 2nd house as lagna, 10th lord is in 2nd house = Kendra lord in house itself = very strong
- All accomplishments: 11th = fulfillment of desires; 2nd = accumulation of all resources; together = "whatever this person sets his mind to, he achieves"; also from 10th house, lagna lord is in 5th house = excellent Purva Punya for work
- Philanthropic/giver:
- From 12th house of giving, this is a Viparita Raja Yoga (12th lord in 9th = 12th lord is 3 houses from 12th) → what is lost (12th) comes back as fortune; person gives generously and fortune multiplies
- From 9th house (dharma) this is also VRY: 9th lord in 12th from 9th's perspective... but main reasoning: person who has so much feels comfortable giving
- Fighter for dharma: 11th lord in 2nd → from 9th house, this is the 3rd lord in 6th house (2nd from 9th = 3rd; 9+3-1=11... from 9th house as lagna: 2nd = 6th house from 9th) = 6th house from 9th = fighter for dharma; "doesn't just know dharma — fights to preserve it"
- Always happy: 11th lord has Argala on lagna AND on 4th house of comfort → person's basic comfort is blessed by 11th lord's agenda
11th Lord in 3rd House
Sanskrit results: Skillful in all things; wealthy; happy with siblings; stomach/digestive problems
Explanation:
- Skillful: From 6th house (house of skills), 6th lord is placed in Bhavat Bhavam of 6th (6th from 6th = 11th is 3rd... let me recalculate: from 6th house as lagna, 11th house is the 6th from 6th = Bhavat Bhavam of 6th house) = skills that develop skills = mastery of skills → extremely talented
- Wealthy:
- From 2nd house of wealth, 9th lord is in 3rd house (= 2nd from 2nd = Bhavat Bhavam of 2nd) = wealth that begets wealth = "Dhanargala" (Argala on 2nd from Bhavat Bhavam position)
- 11th lord has Argala on 2nd house of wealth from its position
- Happy with siblings: 11th lord = elder siblings; placed in 3rd house of younger siblings = elder and younger siblings coexist harmoniously; the person is surrounded by siblings
- Stomach/digestive problems:
- 11th lord in 3rd has Maraka Argala on 5th house (3rd is Argala on 5th): 5th house in the natural zodiac = Leo = digestive region; Maraka Argala from an Upachaya lord on 5th → digestive disturbances
- Also from 5th house as lagna: 7th lord (Maraka) is in lagna = Maraka in the 5th house's own position
- "11th lord in 3rd will give some stomach issues — this is a reliable indicator"
11th Lord in 4th House
Sanskrit results: Gains from mother's side; pilgrimages/worship; owns houses and lands; sudden gains
Explanation:
- Gains from mother: 11th lord in 4th = 11th lord (gains) directly in the house of mother → gains come through or because of mother; could also mean: mother is the source of wealth (inheritance, maternal family support)
- Mother's health may suffer: From 4th house as lagna, 8th lord is in lagna → Maraka influence on mother's house; "while gains come from mother, her health may not be good"
- Pilgrimages:
- From 9th house (temples, pilgrimage): 3rd lord is in the 8th house from 9th = 4th from 9th = 3rd lord from 9th house in 4th = Argala on 3rd house of travel from 9th? Let me use the cleaner rule: 11th lord in 4th has Argala on 3rd house of travel from 4th's perspective → person takes initiative in pilgrimage
- "The 11th lord's agenda in 4th house = gains through moving toward sacred places"
- Owns houses and lands: 11th lord = gains; 4th house = real estate; lord of gains in house of property = owns many properties; very literal combination
- Sudden gains: From 4th house as lagna, 8th lord is in lagna → 8th house = sudden unexpected events; 8th lord in 4th = sudden (8th) matters in gains (11th) context → sudden windfalls, unexpected inheritances
11th Lord in 5th House
Sanskrit results: Children happy and learned; native is passionately dharmic (Dharmarataha); emotionally happy
Explanation:
- Happy and learned children: 11th lord in 5th → from 5th house as lagna, 7th lord is in lagna = partnerships/children (5th = children) bless the person's own nature; also from 5th, 11th lord = 7th lord in Moolatrikona-like state → children are inherently happy and scholarly
- Passionately dharmic (Dharmarataha):
- "Rataha" = passionate/devoted
- From 9th house (dharma), 3rd lord is placed in 9th house = Bhavat Bhavam of 9th itself = dharma that compounds itself; "deeply in love with dharma"
- Also: 11th lord has Argala on 9th house from 5th position → person's gains agenda is directly linked to dharmic pursuits
- Note: this is very different from 5th lord in 5th or 9th lord in 9th — this is the 11th lord (desire-fulfillment) finding its arena in 9th (dharma) = "using desire energy to pursue dharma"
- Emotionally happy: 11th lord in 5th house of emotional stability and equilibrium → emotional life is stable and fulfilled; person gets emotional satisfaction from fulfillment of desires (not just material but dharmic)
11th Lord in 6th House
Sanskrit results: Diseased (Harasthana yoga); ruthless/cruel fighter; lives abroad (loss of patriotism); tormented by enemies
Explanation:
- Diseased (Hara = disease):
- From 6th house as lagna, 6th lord is in the 6th from 6th house = 11th house; 11th lord IS the "6th from 6th" = Bhavat Bhavam of 6th → disease that compounds itself; "house of disease is strengthened by its own Bhavat Bhavam lord"
- This is called "Harasthana yoga" (Hara = disease/poison)
- The person has chronic/recurring health problems throughout life
- Ruthless fighter: From 6th house of enemies and obstacles: 11th lord is lagna lord from 6th → fights like it is fighting for its own survival; "ruthless is the wrong word; relentless is better"; the person fights to win, not just to defend
- Lives abroad:
- 11th lord in 6th = Maraka to the 5th house (11th lord is 7th from 5th = Maraka of 5th); 5th house = patriotism, roots, belonging (also the motherland indicator in D4)
- The Maraka on 5th house of belonging → "loses the sense of belonging to one's own country"; ends up living elsewhere; also 6th house itself = foreign/difficult places
- Tormented by enemies: 11th lord = your desired gains; in 6th = constantly battling to get those gains; 11th agenda is thwarted by 6th house obstacles = the person's desires are always being interfered with by enemies; "he wants things, and enemies constantly come in the way"
— PVNRPVNR: "11th lord in 6th is not an easy placement. The 11th lord is a powerful desire-engine and the 6th house is the arena for that desire — and enemies and disease come with the territory."
