Amsha Rulers — How Planets Work in Divisional Charts
Every division in a varga chart has a presiding deity (Amsha Ruler) that colours the planet's mode of expression — not what happens, but how. The difference between career results (from house/planet/sign) and career style (from the Amsha Ruler). Vakri planets and unfulfilled past-life desire. Applied to Sanjay Rath's D-24 — Vishwakarma and Parashurama amshas.
"You never get the career from the deity. Career comes from the house, planet, and sign. But how the planet does its work — the tone, manner, and energy behind it — that comes from the Amsha Ruler."
— P.V.R. Narasimha Rao
Example Chart
Amsa Rulers — Presiding Deities of Varga Divisions
What They Show
Every planet in a divisional chart occupies not only a Rasi (sign) but also a deity's division (Amsa). Parashara assigned a ruling deity to each subdivision of each Varga.
- D-24 has 24 gods (one for each 24th of a Rasi)
- D-10 has 10 gods (one for each 10th = 3° of a Rasi)
- D-60 has 60 gods, etc.
Critical rule: The Amsa deity does NOT tell you what the career is. It tells you the manner and quality with which that planet does its work.
— PVNR"You never get the career from the deity. Career comes from the house, planet, and sign. But how the planet does its work in that house — what is the tone, manner, and energy behind it — that comes from the Amsa Ruler."
How to use them: Know your Puranas. Know what each deity stands for. Then apply that deity's character to the planet's activity.
— PVNR"To be a good astrologer, you have to know the Puranas — the basic stories at least. When I say Vishwakarma or Parashurama, if you don't know who they are, you will be shooting in the dark."
(In Jagannatha Hora software: tab "Basics" → sub-tab "Amsa Rulers" → select the desired Varga from the drop-down)
D-24 Example — Sanjay Rath (cont. from Lesson 7)
Birth data: August 7, 1963 | 9:15:40 PM IST | 83°58′E, 21°27′N
Recall from Lesson 7: D-24 has Gemini lagna. Jupiter in 10H (Pisces) — Graha Malika Yoga starting from Jupiter, Raj Yoga in 1H (Mercury+Venus). Mercury and Venus have Argala on Jupiter.
Additional analysis using Amsa Rulers:
Jupiter's Amsa: Vishwakarma
Who is Vishwakarma? He is the Deva Silpi — the architect/engineer of the gods. (Maya is the Rakshasa Silpi — the demon architect — Vishwakarma's counterpart.)
Interpretation: Jupiter in 10H of D-24 shows karma related to Vedic knowledge/teaching/astrology (Meena + Guru). What kind of Vedic karma? Vishwakarma shows building something. And because it is for the Devas (not the Rakshasas), it is building something for the good of dharma.
— PVNR"This person will build something relating to Vedic knowledge. Right now he is building Sri Jagannath Centre — the institute engaged in Vedic learning, research, and bringing this knowledge up."
Mars's Amsa (6L in 12H): Parashurama
Mars owns the 6H (house of overcoming obstacles) and is in the 12H. First, why is the 6H relevant?
6H of D-24: Sun (3L = determination) and Moon (Krishna Paksha = malefic/krura graha) are in the 6H. Mars aspects the 6H. Three malefics (Sun, Krishna-paksha Moon, Mars's aspect) associated with 6H.
— PVNRRule: Malefics in 3H and 6H are auspicious. The 3rd house is Vikrama Sthana (boldness, courage) and the 6H is the house of overcoming obstacles. For overcoming obstacles and showing determination, you need the energy and "cruelty" (krura = cruel, fierce energy) of malefic planets. A benefic in 6H means the person is contented but cannot destroy enemies.
Sun (3L) in 6H: The lord of determination is in the house of overcoming obstacles. He will overcome obstacles with great determination.
Three malefics in 6H: This person will have many obstacles in the field of learning (this is D-24). But will he overcome them with vigour and energy? He will.
Vipareeta Raja Yoga: Mars (6L) is in the 12H — another dusthana. When the lord of a dusthana (6/8/12) goes into another dusthana (6/8/12), this is called Vipareeta Raja Yoga:
- Results come after lot of struggle
- But then: great success — better than a normal Raja Yoga
- "Some problem in the beginning. But it will be overcome. The problem will be overcome and then there will be great Raja Yoga."
What is Parashurama? He is the 6th avatar of Vishnu — not a demon, but a Rajasic avatar. Parashurama is the rapture/happiness born from the burning fire of sadhana. When sadhana matures and reaches a peak, that spiritual rapture — like fire — cuts off all negative Kshatriya-like qualities within (ego, jealousy, etc.). Those are the "Kshatriyas" he slays.
Interpretation: The process by which this person (Sanjay Rath) overcomes obstacles relating to Vedic learning is done with Parashurama energy — with a strong sense of purpose, happiness, and a kind of aggressive, rajasic spiritual rapture. Not in a sweet, slow way — in a determined, energetic way.
