BPHS Chapter 24 — 7th Lord in Houses Four to Six (4–6)

7th Lord in 4th House (Verse 76)

Results given by Parashara:

• Jāyā nāsya vaśe sadā — the spouse is not always under his control
• Satya-priyaḥ — he loves truth
• Dhīmān — intelligent
• Dharmātmā — dharmic, religious, righteous
• Danta-roga-yuk — diseases of the teeth

Spouse not under control:

• "We only know the literal meaning of the words. There may be a different shade of meaning."
• From the 7th house the planet is the lagna lord in the 10th. The spouse's intellect is directed at her own karma.
• In modern terms she may be a career woman. Even without a job she is active in society: she wants to serve people, run things, "open another restaurant".
• She has a mind of her own and puts it on her work. In that sense he has less control over her.

Loves truth, dharmic:

• From the 9th house the planet is the 11th lord in the 8th.
• Planets in the 11th give gains, but the 11th lord himself is a malefic. Lords of the 3rd, 6th and 11th are malefics.
• A malefic lord in a dusthana is a Viparita Raja Yoga. There are ups and downs in his sense of dharma, and in the end a very strong sense of dharma.

Intelligent (Dhīmān):

• A student offers the 4th house. The teacher corrects: learning is the 4th, intelligence is the 5th.
• From the 5th the planet is the 3rd lord in the 12th — a functional malefic from the 5th, in the house of loss. Again a Viparita Raja Yoga.
• A planet in the 12th from the 5th spends the wisdom. He has intelligence and puts it to use.

Dental disease:

• Teeth are seen from the 12th house. The teacher notes he had not taught this before.
• From the 12th the planet is the 8th lord in the 5th. An 8th lord gives disease to that house's matters, and he sits in the house of pūrva-puṇya from it.
• He pulls back the other 12th house matters too: giving, moksha, humility.
• The 12th is also the feet and the left eye. In a given chart the result may be a foot disease or a foot injury and not a dental problem.

From the 10th house (not in the verse):

• The planet is the 10th lord in the 7th. Well placed. Many professional interactions.

7th Lord in 5th House (Verse 77)

Results given by Parashara:

• Mānī — honoured, respected
• Sarva-guṇānvitaḥ — has all good qualities
• Sarvadā harṣa-yuktaḥ — always cheerful
• Sarva-dhanādhipaḥ — has all kinds of wealth

A good combination to begin with: a quadrant lord in a trine.

Honoured (Mānī):

• From the 10th house the planet is the 10th lord in the 8th. That is not great.
• The 10th lord in the 8th from lagna was read earlier as fame for a while and then a fall. The same applies here: honoured for a while, with ups and downs.
• "Parashara is saying Mānī. He is not giving the full picture."
• A student offers Ramalinga Raju of Satyam as the type.

All good qualities:

• From the 9th house the planet is the 11th lord in the 9th.
• He is a malefic lord, but he is the lord of fulfilment and sits in the house of protection. His agenda is to give fulfilment of desires relating to virtue.
• A student asks how this differs from the 11th lord in the 8th from the 9th (the previous verse). There it is a Viparita Raja Yoga: trouble first, virtue in the end. Here the planet is well placed in a trine, in the 9th from the 9th.
• From lagna itself: a quadrant lord in the trine of pūrva-puṇya. Excellent character, strong personality.

Always cheerful:

• The 4th shows how happy he is inside. Cheerfulness is how he appears to others, and the face shown to others is the 7th house.
• From the 7th the planet is the lagna lord in the 11th. He comes across as positive, optimistic, pleasant.
• Emotional stability is the 5th house, not the 4th. From the 5th the planet is the 3rd lord in lagna: initiative put into staying stable. A mature, stable person.
• The same placement from the 5th is good for children: enterprising and successful.

Very wealthy:

• From the 2nd house the planet is the 6th lord. The 6th is a dusthana, but for wealth an upachaya lord shows accumulation.
• He is in a quadrant from the 2nd and has argala on the 2nd. He pushes the wealth.
• "Upachaya lords are good with respect to things that you accumulate, like wealth."

7th Lord in 6th House (Verse 78)

Results given by Parashara (all bad):

• Bhāryā tasya rujānvitā — his wife is sick
• Striyā sahāthavā vairam — or enmity and quarrels with the wife
• Svayaṁ krodhī — he is an angry man
• Sukhojjhitaḥ — he has no happiness

Wife sick:

• The 7th lord is in the 12th from the 7th. A lord in the house of loss from his own house is bad.
• The 12th is hospitalisation. The wife may be bedridden or often in hospital.
• The 12th is also moksha. A lagna lord in the 12th turns the intellect to detachment. So this can also show a spiritual spouse.

Quarrels:

• "7th is getting along with people and 6th is fighting with people." They are opposite poles. One lord in the other's house is always a bad combination.
• The lord of relations is in the house of fighting. His intellect about relationships is fixed on fighting. He fights with his wife.
• The 7th is all the people he deals with, so he fights with people in general.

Angry:

• Anger is the 8th house. The 7th is the outward personality. Its lord is in the 6th, an Agni sthana, with argala on the 8th.

No happiness:

• From the 4th house the planet is the 4th lord in the 3rd. The quadrant lord who gives direction is badly placed. There is no direction when it comes to being happy and at peace.
• Planets in the 6th are conducive to fighting, not happiness.

The remaining verses of the 7th lord are left for the next class.
