Druk Dasha Full Recap, Retrograde = Past-Life Desire (Tashtha Bala) & Combustion vs Retrogression Are Two Orthogonal Factors
Druk Dasha core formula: 9th-house based dasha (like Narayana is 7th-house based); 5th from dasha sign = progressed lagna; read natal chart + Dasha Pravesh Chakra from that lagna; common themes = confident prediction. House meanings from progressed lagna: 5th=bhakti/devotion; 6th=karma yoga/service; 8th=sadhana/disciplined practice; 9th=dharma/guru; 10th=spiritual karma and big events; 12th=vairagya/renunciation/moksha. "12th dominant in Druk Dasha: if native has sanyasa potential, that dasha = likely renunciation." Yoga path indicators: Jnana=Sun+Mars; Karma=Mercury; Bhakti=Moon+Venus; Raja=Saturn+Rahu. Important limit: Druk Dasha does NOT show Ishta Devata or mantra preference (use natal 12th from AK in Navamsa). Retrograde philosophy: planet represents a strong desire carried from past life — something the soul wanted but didn't complete. Extra agitation and intolerance of interference. Tashtha Bala = force of momentum. Multiple retrograde: 1-2 easier (common theme); 4+ = conflicting agendas from different past lives. Combustion vs retrogression = two orthogonal/independent factors. Combustion = proximity to Sun (paling in front of Sun's brilliance). Retrogression = past-life momentum. A planet can be both simultaneously. Combustion orb ~7-8 degrees (exact classical orbs vary per planet).
"A retrograde planet represents a strong desire carried from the past life — something the soul wanted but did not complete. It has extra agitation and intolerance of anything that disturbs its agenda."
— P.V.R. Narasimha Rao
Druk Dasha — Full Recap
Core formula:
- Druk Dasha is the progression of the 9th house (just as Narayana Dasha is progression of 7th house)
- Take the 5th house from the dasha sign = progressed lagna
- Read the natal chart from that progressed lagna; also read the Dasha Pravesh Chakra (Tajika for the dasha start year) from the same progressed lagna
- Whatever themes are common to both charts → confident prediction
House meanings from progressed lagna in Druk Dasha:
| House | Meaning |
|---|---|
| 5th | Devotion, bhakti, puja, mantra japa |
| 6th | Karma yoga — service, organizing spiritual functions |
| 8th | Sadhana — disciplined spiritual practice, mystical experiences |
| 9th | Dharma, religion, guru connection |
| 10th | Spiritual karma — big activities, spiritual events |
| 12th | Vairagya, renunciation, moksha; if very dominant → sanyasa |
Yoga path indicators (from planetary significations):
- Jnana Yoga: Sun, Mars (Agni tattva)
- Karma Yoga: Mercury (Prithvi/earth tattva)
- Bhakti Yoga: Moon, Venus (Jala/water tattva)
- Raja Yoga (pranayama/Kundalini): Saturn, Rahu (Vayu/air tattva)
Important limit: Druk Dasha does NOT show Ishta Devata, remedies, or mantra preferences — those come from the natal chart (12th from AK in Navamsa, etc.).
— PVNR"Look at the signs, planets, yogas. You can say whether bhakti, karma yoga, or sadhana dominates in a given period. You cannot predict who will become a sanyasi unless the natal chart already shows sanyasa potential — in those charts, when the 12th house is dominant in Druk Dasha, that is the time."
Retrograde Planets — Philosophy
What retrograde means:
- Planet represents a strong desire carried from the past life — something the soul wanted but did not complete
- Planet has extra agitation and attachment to its significations
- It is like someone who has failed at building a house of cards 100 times and on the 101st attempt is extremely careful and determined
Tashtha Bala: "Force of momentum" — retrograde planets have stronger energy/momentum.
Result: Intolerance of anything that disturbs the planet's agenda. If retrograde Jupiter is in lagna, any adharma or disturbance to dharmic activities causes strong reaction.
Multiple retrograde planets:
- 1-2 retrograde: easier to find common theme, work synergistically
- 4+ retrograde: many conflicting strong agendas from different past lives; tension between them
Retrograde + combustion: These are two orthogonal factors — completely independent. A planet can be retrograde and combust simultaneously. Combustion is about proximity to Sun (paling in front of the Sun's brilliance). Retrogression is about past-life attachment/momentum.
Combustion Rules
Approximate orb: ~7-8 degrees from Sun (each planet has slightly different orb in classical texts)
— PVNR"PVNR: I did not memorize the exact numbers. Approximately 7-8 degrees. The exact orbs per planet are given in the classics — I will try to get the numbers for the next class."
Combust planet: Its ability to give results is weakened because it "pales" in front of the Sun's brilliance. The Sun dominates.
Checking which dominates (combust or not):
- Look at both the combust planet AND Sun in Navamsa and Trimshamsa
- If Sun is strong in Navamsa, his protective ability is enhanced
- If the combust planet is weak in Navamsa, its vulnerability is increased
- This is a holistic judgment — not resolvable from rasi alone
