BPHS Chapter 25 — 4th Lord in Houses 7–12

4th Lord in 7th House

Sanskrit: Sukheche saptame jato bahu-vidyā samanvitaha; pitra-arjita-dhanāt-tyāgi; sabhāyam mukha-vad bhavet

Results:

• Bahu-vidyā samanvitaha — endowed with many kinds of knowledge
• Pitra-arjita-dhanāt-tyāgi — sacrifices/gives up money received from father; doesn't enjoy inherited wealth
• Sabhāyam mukha-vad bhavet — in an assembly of people, like a dumb person; not talkative in groups

Why the results make sense:

Many kinds of knowledge:

• 7th house = 4th from 4th → "4th lord is in the 4th from it; has Argala on 4th house"
• Also has 10th aspect (partial) on 4th house from 7th
• "Conducive to 4th house — there can be learning; interactions relating to knowledge"

Gives up father's money:

• Taking 9th house (father) as lagna: 4th lord in 7th = 8th lord in 11th from 9th
• "8th lord in the 11th house for father → can cause an upset to father's wealth, reduce father's gains"
• From 8th house (inheritance): 4th lord is in the 12th from 8th (9th from 8th, which is the fortune house from inheritance, but placed in losing/giving up)
• "The inheritance may be given up — he may let go an inheritance. He may get lot of money suddenly (9th lord from 8th = fortune for inheritance), but then spend it away on a temple, some cause, etc."

Dumb in assembly (not talkative):

• From 3rd house (communication in front of people): 4th lord is in 5th from 3rd (2nd lord from 3rd = Maraka of communication)
• "As far as the 3rd house of communication is concerned, he is a Maraka — he can kill the communication skills of the person"
• PVNR: "4th lord is basically a Maraka from the 3rd house. Parashara chose one example — not talkative in assembly. But it could also mean hearing issues, brother problems (Maraka of 3rd = Maraka for brother), etc."

Where A4 falls: Not specifically stated for 7th; implication from the 8th lord context = complex.

4th Lord in 8th House

Sanskrit: Gruha-ādi-sukhā-vadjitaha; pitro sukham bhavedalpam; jāta klibha-samo bhavet (sukheche-randha-vasthe)

Results:

• Gruha-ādi-sukhā-vadjitaha — devoid of comforts from house, vehicle, etc.
• Pitro sukham bhavedalpam — very little happiness from father
• Klibha-samo bhavet — like a eunuch (weak will, incapable of standing up; lacking strong desires/motivations)

Why the results make sense:

No household comforts:

• 4th lord in 8th = lord of comfort in a Dusthana → "the one supposed to give comfort is in a Dusthana"
• A4 (Arudha of 4th) falls in 12th house → "if any Arudha is in the 12th house, the person may be devoid of that particular thing"
• PVNR caution: "He may have nice houses abroad — that is also possible since 12th = foreign lands"

No happiness from father:

• From 9th house (father): 4th lord = 12th lord from 9th in 12th house → "but that is 8th lord in 12th from 9th = could give Viprit Rajayoga for father"
• Key principle: "For a Viprit Rajayoga with respect to a person's house, it doesn't mean the native is happy with that person — it means the other person may have a sudden gain, but this planet when its dasha comes gives loss of happiness relative to that house"
• "Being a Dusthana lord from 9th house, he will spoil the relationship with father or not give much happiness from father"

Like a eunuch (klibha):

• 7th house = house of desire; from 7th house: 4th lord in 8th = Maraka of 7th (8th = 2nd from 7th)
• "He is not really conducive to lot of desires — the person doesn't have strong desires or motivations"
• "It may also mean: unable to fulfill desires (Maraka energy on desire house)"

A4 in 12th — the key indicator for lack of comforts/properties.

4th Lord in 9th House

Sanskrit: Sukheche bhāgya-bhavaste jāta sarvajana-priya; devabhakto guṇī māṇī bhavet sarva sukha-anvitaha

Results (all positive — Kendra lord in Kona = auspicious):

• Sarvajana-priya — liked by everyone
• Devabhakto — devotee of God; religious
• Guṇī — virtuous/capable
• Māṇī — principled, honorable
• Sarva-sukha-anvitaha — all kinds of happiness

Why the results make sense:

Liked by everyone:

• 11th house = how people emotionally connect with you (5th from 7th = emotional reactions of people you interact with)
• 4th lord in 9th has Argala on 11th house → "can give good emotional rapport with other people"
• "People will tend to like you"

Devotee of God:

• 4th lord = planet of happiness; placed in 9th = "you are happy following religion, doing rituals — happiness comes from devotion"

Virtuous/capable:

• 4th lord in 9th → aspects 5th house (from 9th, 7th aspect = 3rd house; also has influence on 5th via Argala)
• PVNR clarification: "Guṇavān = capable person with abilities, not necessarily 'virtuous' as translated — because 5th house is abilities, not virtues (9th = virtues)"
• Also has Argala on Lagna (from 9th house) → "influence on the basic nature of the person"

All kinds of happiness:

• 4th lord (of sukha) in 9th = trine → "he will have happiness"
• From 4th house as lagna: 4th lord is in 6th house from 4th (9th = 6th from 4th) → Upachaya position → "accumulates lot of comforts; always engaged in activity but accumulates"
• "Where A4 falls? A4 is in the 2nd house" — 2nd house of wealth → "his cars, houses, etc. are his wealth; conducive to accumulating"

4th Lord in 10th House

Sanskrit: Sukheche karma-bhavaste; rāja-mānya narobhavet; rasāyanī; mahārṣṭho sukha-bhogī; jitendriyaha

Results:

• Rāja-mānya — respected by kings/government; royal honors
• Rasāyanī — chemist/scientist; someone dealing with chemicals or deep knowledge
• Mahārṣṭho — always in great happiness, very cheerful
• Sukha-bhogī — enjoyer of comforts (not just accumulator — actively ENJOYS them)
• Jitendriyaha — has conquered his senses; overcomes Moha (delusion)

Why the results make sense:

Royal respect:

• 4th lord in 10th → "the planet who shows how happy you are is in the house of status in society — you are happy with all the respect you get in society"
• "You are a respected member of society"

Chemist/Scientist:

• 4th house = liquids; 4th lord in 10th (career) → career dealing with liquids or chemicals
• PVNR's preferred interpretation: "4th house is knowledge; 4th lord in 10th = strong desire for knowledge; from 10th as lagna, 7th lord is in lagna (desire) — he has a strong desire for his work, attached to it"
• "Researcher, someone who is into sciences, who stays till 1 AM in his lab — this is more accurate than just 'chemist'"

Sukha-bhogī (enjoyer):

• Distinction: 4th lord in 9th = sukha-vitaha (has/accumulates comforts); 4th lord in 10th = sukha-bhogī (ENJOYS them)
• "He has nice Mercedes-Benz cars AND actually drives them every day" (not locked in a garage)
• A4 falls in Lagna → "all comforts are physically enjoyed by the person; he physically enjoys whatever he has"

Jitendriyaha (conquered senses):

• 10th house = field of Moha (false pride from achievements) — this is the Indrasthana
• 4th lord in 10th = Maraka of 10th (from 10th, 7th = 4th house, so 4th lord = 7th lord from 10th = Maraka of 10th)
• "When Maraka is placed in that house (lagna from 10th), it can give some overcoming of that particular thing"
• "He may show overcoming the delusion that comes from the 10th house — freedom from false pride of achievements"
• PVNR: "Not guaranteed — but there is a possibility, because this planet is showing Maraka of the 10th house's Moha"

• PVNR repeats: 10th house = Moha (false pride from accomplishments), 11th = Madha (wantonness), 12th = Matsarya (jealousy)

Sanskrit: Sukheche lābhage jato gupta-roga-bhayānvitaha; udāro guṇavān dātā paropa-kāṇe-irataha

Results:

• Gupta-roga-bhayānvitaha — has fear of gupta-roga (hidden/secret diseases, STDs)
• Udāro — generous
• Guṇavān — virtuous/capable
• Dātā — giver
• Paropakāṇe-irataha — helpful to others; engaged in serving others

Why the results make sense:

Gupta-roga (hidden diseases):

• A4 falls in 6th house (4th lord in 11th → A4 in 6th) → "A4 in 6th house of disease — tangible pursuits of happiness have some link to the 6th house"
• "On account of his happiness, he gets into disease — one possibility: visiting a prostitute and getting STD"
• Also: from 4th house as lagna: 4th lord in 11th = 8th house from 4th → "breaks happiness, gives lack of peace"
• "The word gupta-roga means either deep hidden disease OR sexually transmitted disease — both are possibilities"

Not an enjoyer of his own comforts:

• Unlike 4th lord in 10th (A4 in lagna = physically enjoys comforts), here 4th lord in 11th = A4 in 6th
• "This person is not really an enjoyer of his own physical comforts — he is doing something else"

Generous, helpful, giver:

• 11th house = house of friends, others; 4th lord in 11th → "may be bothered about making other people emotionally well; compromises his own happiness"
• From 11th as lagna: 4th lord = 6th lord in lagna → "gaining through struggle for others, not by accumulating for himself"
• "He is not really someone who writes a cheque; he is someone who sacrifices his own gains so that other people are happy — that kind of generosity"
• Also: 4th lord aspects 5th house from 11th → "connection between quadrant (4th) and trine (5th) — good qualities of character"
• Has Argala on Lagna from 11th → "some influence on the basic nature of the person"

Guṇavān (capable):

• 4th lord aspects 5th (abilities) + Argala on lagna → "capable person; but may be using abilities to deprive himself of peace and create more work to help others"

Sanskrit: Sukheche vyaya-bhavaste; gruhādhi-sukhā-vadjitaha; jāto durvyasanī mudha; sadā ālasya-samanvitaha

Results:

• Gruhādhi-sukhā-vadjitaha — devoid of happiness from house, vehicles, etc.
• Durvyasanī — has bad addictions/vices (cigarettes, alcohol, etc.)
• Mudha — fool; unlearned; lacks formal education
• Sadā ālasya-samanvitaha — well endowed with laziness; always lazy

Why the results make sense:

No household comforts:

• "Lord of 4th (happiness from house, etc.) in 12th house of loss — he may not have them"
• A4 falls in 8th house → "Arudha of any house in 8th house: that article may be cause of anxiety; may not have it, or have it but with lots of troubles"
• "He may have properties abroad" (12th = foreign lands)
• PVNR caution: "A4 in 8th also shows lots of change — may be always changing cars and houses; could be someone constantly upgrading to the next better model"

Bad addictions:

• 4th house = house of comforts and vyasanas (things that give happiness)
• 4th lord in 12th = "lord who shows happiness is in a Dusthana → may resort to hidden things or normally rejected things to get pleasure"
• Also A4 in 8th → can show sudden pleasures, unstable pleasures

Fool/Unlearned:

• 4th house = learning and education
• 4th lord in 12th (loss) → "lord of knowledge goes into house of loss — deprived of formal education"
• A4 in 8th → "breaks in knowledge"
• "Not a fool in the worldly-wise sense — he may be smart with people; but unlearned; lacks formal schooling"

Laziness:

• From 3rd house (initiative): 4th lord in 12th = 10th house from 3rd (the Indrasthana of initiative)
• "Who is in that 10th house from 3rd? The Maraka of the 3rd house (12th = 10th from 3rd, and 4th lord = 2nd from 3rd = Maraka of 3rd)"
• "The one who wants to kill your initiative is told: implement this initiative. He may or may not — depends on relationship with 3rd lord"
• "Not somebody endowed with great initiative; may be a procrastinator"
