BPHS Ch.25 — 8th Lord in Houses 1–3: No Physical Comfort + Irreligious (1H), Physically Weak + Loses Wealth Permanently (2H), No Brother Happiness + Lazy + Independent Servants (3H) & Why 2nd/7th Are Maraka Sthanas

General principle: "Irrespective of which house the 8th lord occupies, that house's significations are weakened or afflicted — theme throughout this chapter." 8L in 1H: no bodily comfort (8L of destruction in lagna = "enemy in your house; lagna afflicted"); irreligious/hostile to tradition (from 9H, 8L = 12L in 5th from 9H = "12th lord from 9H = loss of dharma; person disrespects outer religious forms"); BUT positive nuance: "8H = Moksha Trikona; person may understand dharma at deeper level, transcending the letter of the law; common negative outcome is irreligion, but the depth is occult understanding"; chronic diseases/wounds (8L directly afflicts lagna). 8L in 2H: physically weak (from 3H, 8L = 6L in 12th from 3H = "loss of vitality; 2H is 12th from 3H of vitality = planets here not conducive to strength"); very little money + lost wealth doesn't come back (from 2H, 8L = 7L/Maraka in lagna from 2H = "destroyer of wealth; not the Upachaya lord that grows money but the Maraka that kills it"); Maraka dasha potential ("this planet's dasha can be life-threatening, not just financially bad"). 8L in 3H: no brother happiness; lazy; weak (8L = dust in house of strength, vitality, brothers — "all 3rd house significations suffer; laziness = lack of initiative = 3rd house deficiency"); servants have mind of their own (from 6H-lagna, 8L = 3L in 10th from 6H = "servants direct their initiative in their own karma; not obedient; it's like having no servants"). Why 2nd/7th are Marakasthanas: "3rd and 8th are the two houses of life. 12th from both = Marakasthanas: 2H (12th from 3H) and 7H (12th from 8H). Both are 'loss of life houses' = Maraka sthanas."

"The 8th lord in lagna: the destroyer is in the house of the body — the enemy has come into your house. Lagna is afflicted. But there is a positive nuance: the 8th house is part of the Moksha Trikona. The person may understand dharma at a deeper level, transcending its outer forms. Parashara gives the common negative outcome; the depth is occult insight."

BPHS Chapter 25 — 8th Lord in Houses 1–6

General principle for this section: "Irrespective of which house the 8th lord occupies, that house's significations are weakened or afflicted. That is the theme throughout this chapter."

8th Lord in 1st House (Verse 85)

Sanskrit results:

  • Tanu-saukhya vivarjitaha — no bodily comfort; no physical happiness
  • Devānāṃ brāhmaṇānāṃ ca nindakaha — hostile to gods and brāhmaṇas (= irreligious; disrespectful of tradition)
  • Vrāṇa-saṃyutaha — afflicted by wounds/chronic illness; possibly cancer

Why the results make sense:

No physical comfort:

  • "8th lord of destruction in lagna = the destroyer is in the house of the body; enemy coming into your house; lagna is afflicted"

Irreligious:

  • From 9th house (dharma/religion): 8th lord in 1st = 12th lord in 5th from 9th → "12th lord from 9th = loss of dharma; gives up dharma"
  • "9th house is religion/dharma; 8th house is the 12th from 9th = loss of dharma; person shows irreligion"
  • Positive angle: "8th house can also show advanced understanding of dharma — someone who has transcended the letter of the law to understand its spirit; Moksha Trikona lord; occult insight"
  • PVNR: "The real depth is, 8th house = Moksha Trikona; the person may understand dharma at a deeper level, but may disregard its outer forms; Parashara gives the common negative outcome"

Chronic diseases/wounds:

  • "8th lord in lagna = direct affliction of lagna; 8th house = chronic diseases, hard-to-cure illness; being in lagna he afflicts the physical body"

8th Lord in 2nd House (Verse 86)

Sanskrit results:

  • Bahu-bala-hīna — physically weak; lack of strength in shoulders
  • Dhanam tasya bhavet svalpaṃ — very little money
  • Naṣṭa-vittham na labhyate — lost wealth does not come back

Why the results make sense:

Physically weak:

  • From 3rd house (vitality/strength): 8th lord in 2nd = 6th lord in 12th from 3rd → "6th lord (Upachaya) in 12th from 3rd = loss of vitality"
  • "2nd house is 12th from 3rd house of vitality; planets in 2nd house are generally not conducive to initiative and vitality"
  • "The 2nd and 7th houses are Maraka sthanas because they are 12th from the two houses of life (3rd and 8th); 2nd is 12th from 3rd = loss of vitality"

Little money; loses wealth permanently:

  • From 2nd house (wealth): 8th lord in 2nd = 7th lord in lagna from 2nd → "7th lord of Maraka is in lagna of wealth — killing the wealth"
  • "Upachaya lords from 2nd are important for accumulating money; this is the 7th lord (Maraka) in lagna = destroyer of wealth"
  • "He may have some desire for money (7th = Kama), but the planet is killing the wealth, not growing it"
  • "Planet's dasha can also be a Maraka dasha — not just poor wealth but possibly life-threatening"

8th Lord in 3rd House (Verse 87)

Sanskrit results:

  • Bhrātr-saukhyaṃ na jāyate — no happiness from brothers
  • Sālasya — lazy
  • Bhṛtya-hīnastha — without servants (servants that don't listen)
  • Bala-varjitaha — weak

Why the results make sense:

No brother happiness, lazy, weak:

  • "8th lord in 3rd = dust in the house of strength, vitality, initiative, bravery, and brothers → all 3rd house significations suffer"
  • "Weakness and laziness are both 3rd house deficiencies; laziness = lack of initiative = 3rd house problem"

Servants that don't listen:

  • From 6th house (servants) as lagna: 8th lord in 3rd = 3rd lord in 10th from 6th → "3rd lord of initiative in 10th house from 6th-lagna"
  • "Servants have their own initiative; they direct that initiative in their karma; they have a mind of their own"
  • "They are not really obedient servants; they don't take orders well; it's as good as having no servants"
  • PVNR: "Parashara says no servants, but the real meaning is: servants he has are like having no servants — independent-minded"

8th Lord in 4th House (Verse 88)

Sanskrit results:

  • Mātr-hīnaha — without mother (mother may not be present, or no happiness from mother)
  • Gṛha-bhūmi-sukha-hīnaha — no happiness from house, land, properties
  • Mitra-drohī — betrays friends; lets down close people

Why the results make sense:

No mother, no property happiness:

  • "8th lord in 4th = the destroyer in the house of mother, home, comforts, peace of mind — all 4th house significations suffer"
  • "Mother may not be present, or relationship with mother is troubled"
  • Positive nuance: "From 4th house as lagna, the 5th lord (Purvapunya) is in lagna — mother can be a very fortunate, successful person; the negative is the person's relationship with her, not her quality"

Betrays friends:

  • "8th house = house of sins and adharma (9th house is dharma; 8th is 12th from 9th = adharma/sins)"
  • From 11th house (friends): 8th lord in 4th = planet showing sins is in 6th from 11th → "8th lord creates obstacles and problems for friends in an adharmic way"
  • "He is not really good to his friends; he can betray them"

8th Lord in 5th House (Verse 89)

Sanskrit results:

  • Jada-buddhi — dull intelligence; slow mind
  • Svalpa-prajñaha — very limited discretion; not smart
  • Dīrghāyuhu — long-lived
  • Dhana-nvitaha — wealthy (sudden/unexpected wealth)

Why the results make sense:

Dull intelligence:

  • "8th lord of destruction in 5th house of intelligence = 5th house significations destroyed; person is not intelligent, slow-minded, lacks discretion"

Long-lived:

  • "8th lord also shows longevity (not just death); in trine (5th) = some Purvapunya coming to support the life of the person"
  • "8th lord in trine = the house of longevity is in the house of Purvapunya; person is long-lived"
  • Also: "8th lord has Argala on 11th house" → possible unexpected gains

Suddenly wealthy:

  • "8th lord in 5th: aspects 11th house (7th from 5th) → unexpected developments in gains"
  • "Taking Purvapunya (5th) as lagna: 4th lord is in lagna = some Purvapunya relating to comforts"
  • A8 calculation: 8th lord in 5th → count from 8th to 5th = 10th, then 10th from 5th = 2nd house; but 2nd is 7th from 8th = axis, so exception applies; take 10th from there = A8 in 11th house
  • "A8 = Arudha of 8th house (sudden developments); A8 in 11th = tangible sudden gains will come"
  • "8th house = speculation; 5th house = Purvapunya; together = possibility of lottery or unexpected large windfall"
  • "Not someone with a steadily growing bank account, but someone who suddenly gets a lot of money"

8th Lord in 6th House (Verse 90)

Sanskrit results:

  • Śatru-jayata — victor over enemies
  • Roga-yukta sarīrastha — body full of diseases
  • Bālye sarpa-jalāt bhayam — danger from snakes and water in childhood

Why the results make sense:

Victor over enemies:

  • "8th lord in 6th = Viparita Rajayoga; Dusthana lord in another Dusthana = gives Rajayoga type results"
  • "6th house of enemies is afflicted; enemies suffer and lose; person wins over enemies"

CRITICAL RULE — Viparita Rajayoga does NOT apply to health:

"When it comes to health, never look at Viparita Rajayoga. If 6th lord is in 8th OR 8th lord is in 6th — in the matter of health and physical body, this is not a positive combination. It just means you won't die from it, but you will keep fighting. So he has lots of diseases — he won't die but he keeps fighting illness."

— PVNR

Diseases:

  • "6th + 8th = two bad houses linked; Viparita does not rescue health; body has lots of diseases"

Danger from snakes and water in childhood:

  • Element mapping: Dharma Trikonas (1,5,9) = Fire; Artha Trikonas (2,6,10) = Earth; Kama Trikonas (3,7,11) = Air; Moksha Trikonas (4,8,12) = Water
  • A8 calculation: 8th lord in 6th → count 8th to 6th = 11th from 8th; 11th from 6th = 4th house → A8 in 4th house
  • "4th house = Moksha Trikona = Water element; A8 (sudden troubles) in 4th (water) = danger from water"
  • Snakes: "Snakes = Rahu; but Parashara says this even without Rahu involvement specifically; PVNR is not sure of the snake logic — too specific for him to explain"
  • PVNR: "Don't predict snakes specifically. This is just one angle Parashara is showing — expand thinking, not a prediction recipe"

Key Principle: 2nd and 7th as Maraka Houses — Why

"3rd and 8th are the two houses of life. The 12th house from both of them are Marakasthanas — 2nd (12th from 3rd) and 7th (12th from 8th). When 2nd and 7th are 'loss houses' from the two life houses, that is why they kill."

— PVNR
