Parivrajya Yoga, Saturn/Rahu AL Rules & Mahapurusha Priority

Parivrajya (genuine renunciation) Yoga: Moon in a Mars navamsha + conjoined or aspected by Saturn. Without this yoga, even a formal sanyasi is only outwardly renunciate. Swami Jayendra: Moon+Saturn in Aquarius (Saturn's own sign) = highest order of Parivrajya Yoga. Saturn/Rahu special AL rules: Saturn in 12th from AL = image paradox (people doubt genuine sanyasa). Mahapurusha Yoga priority: if two Mahapurusha Yogas compete, higher trikona wins; exaltation beats Moolatrikona in same trikona.

"Without Parivrajya Yoga, even a person who formally becomes a sanyasi is only outwardly so — not a genuine renunciate."

— P.V.R. Narasimha Rao

Example Chart

Swami Jayendra Saraswati (Kanchi Kamakoti Peetha)
Jul 18, 1935 · 7:00 PM IST · Kanchipuram
Parivrajya Yoga: Moon+Saturn in Aquarius (highest order). Saturn's 12th from AL = image paradox. Mahapurusha analysis: Malavya (Venus exalted in 10H, Artha trikona) dominates over Hamsa (Jupiter Moolatrikona in 7H, Kama trikona).

Parivrajya (Parivrajaya) Yoga — Genuine Renunciation

Definition

  • Also called Pravarajya Yoga
  • Moon in a Mars navamsha (an amsha ruled by Mars) + conjoined with or aspected by Saturn in the Rasi chart
  • This yoga makes one a genuine renunciate (sanyasi)

Why It Matters

  • Many people are spiritual, gentle, or saintly in behavior, but cannot truly renounce material desires
  • Without Parivrajya Yoga, even a person who formally becomes a sanyasi is only outwardly so — not a genuine renunciate
  • To truly give up all desires, one needs this yoga in the chart
  • Additional strengthener: Moon + Saturn in Saturn's own sign (e.g., Aquarius) = the yoga is of the highest order

Swami Jayendra Chart

  • Moon in Mars navamsha + Moon conjunct Saturn in Aquarius (Saturn's own sign)
  • = Parivrajya Yoga of the highest order → genuine sanyasi beyond doubt

Saturn and Rahu's Special Arudha Lagna Rules

Special Raj Yoga Positions from AL

PlanetRaj Yoga Position from AL
Mercury, Jupiter2nd from AL
Saturn, Rahu12th from AL
  • Mercury or Jupiter in the 2nd from AL = Raj Yoga for image (seen as wise, wealthy, resourceful)
  • Saturn or Rahu in the 12th from AL = Raj Yoga for image (seen as having authority, power)

Saturn's Image Paradox

  • Saturn in AL itself: Person is seen as a renunciate (Saturn = renunciation)
  • Saturn in 12th from AL: Person is seen as someone who is rejecting renunciation — as if they are giving up the quality of giving up; some people will doubt their genuine sanyasa
  • This is a paradox: Even if Saturn is the lagna lord and the person is a genuine sanyasi, being in 12th from AL creates a false image of power-seeking in the minds of some people

Seeing the Truth vs. Seeing the Image

  • AL = how one is perceived (image, not truth)
  • Lagna = the true inner reality
  • To assess if someone is genuinely spiritual: look at lagna, 3H/6H from AL influences — NOT Saturn's placement from AL

Mahapurusha Yoga — Priority Rules

The Five Mahapurusha Yogas

When any of these 5 planets occupies a kendra (1H, 4H, 7H, 10H) in own sign, Moolatrikona, or exaltation:

PlanetYoga NameCharacter Trait
JupiterHamsa YogaDiplomatic, courteous, never wants to hurt anyone
VenusMalavya YogaNon-diplomatic, direct, judgmental, says what they feel
MarsRuchaka YogaCourageous, aggressive, powerful
SaturnShasha YogaDisciplined, hardworking, austere
MercuryBhadra YogaIntelligent, communicative, analytical

Note on diplomacy:

  • Hamsa (Jupiter) = genuine diplomacy — does not want to hurt anyone, so says what people want to hear
  • Rahu = fake diplomacy — wants something from people, says what they want to hear to manipulate
  • Venus is NOT a planet of diplomacy; Venus is direct, judgmental, unafraid to say what he feels (tapasya nature)

When Two Mahapurusha Yogas Exist

Priority order for which dominates:

  1. Primary criterion: Trikona placement
    • Dharma Trikona (1H, 5H, 9H) = most important
    • Artha Trikona (2H, 6H, 10H) = second
    • Kama Trikona (3H, 7H, 11H) = third
    • Moksha Trikona (4H, 8H, 12H) = fourth
  2. Secondary (if same trikona): Exaltation > Moolatrikona > Own sign

Example: K.N. Rao's Chart

  • Venus in lagna in Moolatrikona → Dharma Trikona → Malavya Yoga
  • Jupiter in 10th house in exaltation → Artha Trikona → Hamsa Yoga
  • Dharma > Artha → Malavya dominates → Very direct, judgmental, non-diplomatic person (confirmed by his writing style)
  • Some Hamsa Yoga results still present but secondary

Jayalalithaa's Chart

  • Jupiter in 7H in Moolatrikona → Kama Trikona → Hamsa Yoga
  • Venus in 10H in exaltation → Artha Trikona → Malavya Yoga
  • Artha Trikona > Kama Trikona (exaltation gives Venus precedence over Moolatrikona Jupiter) → Malavya dominates
  • Conclusion: She is mostly Malavya type — direct, can say things without caring about others' feelings; some Hamsa results too (God-fearing, respects dharma)
