Drig Dasha — Spiritual Significance & D24 Narayana Dasha for Education

What Actually Happened

After the rāśi reading the student gives the background.

• A very bright student: valedictorian at school, did very well in his first two years of college.
• He dropped out at the end of 1998 / beginning of 1999 and went into seclusion. He meditates, talks to nobody, does nothing regular. This is what worries his mother.
• He enrolled in a course or two at times and did not finish. He is enrolled in one now, without full commitment.
• It began as a spiritual turn. He is now more confused than when it began.
• The mother is confident of the birth time.

How the reading stands against it:

• Saturn in the 5th also shows meditation. The Chandra–Śani yoga gives results akin to renunciation: giving up, no interest in material things. It can also give depression and total confusion, or both together. Saturn's third triggered it fully.
• The dropout itself fell in the first third of Leo, which PVNR had guessed was not so bad. "That is interesting."
• The current third (Sun, 5th lord in the 9th) should bring improvement. The student reports only a relative improvement, not enough for the parents.
• The rāśi chart cannot say why he ignores his studies so completely. For that, D-24 (Part 8).

Dṛg Daśā — Spiritual Significance

A detour before D-24; PVNR says he will teach the daśā in a later class.

• Dṛg daśā is the daśā for religious and spiritual activity.

"This daśā shows the God's light that is falling on you and guiding you."

Rule:

• Daśā sign aspected by Ketu → good for spiritual progress; a spiritual awakening, spiritual churning — provided the chart has the combinations.
• Daśā sign aspected by Rahu → spiritual confusion.
• If the nodes are in dual signs, both aspect together. If they were in, say, Aries and Libra, only one would aspect at a time, and periods of growth and periods of confusion would alternate.

In this chart:

• Ketu is in Pisces and Rahu in Virgo. All the daśā signs so far have been dual signs, so Ketu's influence has been there all along.
• The daśā that began on January 11, 1999 is aspected by Ketu. So was Gemini before it. Ketu has aspected the daśā sign since birth: spiritual from a very young age. (The student confirms: well-known spiritual teachers stayed with the family in his childhood.)
• A student expects him to be most receptive in Pisces, where Ketu sits. That fell at too young an age; it shows early exposure to spiritual thinking.
• Virgo brings Rahu's occupation as well as Ketu's aspect. The published class notes name Virgo as the Dṛg daśā running since 1999.

"During this period, more than actual spiritual progress, this is a period of confusion."

D-24 Narayana Daśā — Two Seeds for Learning

The Default: 12th Lord as Seed

• 24 is 12 modulo 12, so the seed house for D-24 is the 12th. Take the 12th lord of the rāśi chart, see where he is in D-24, and progress from there.
• The 12th is mokṣa, giving up one's identity: the complete siddhi. The chart is called Siddhāṁśa for that reason.
• This daśā shows the overall learning of the person — detachment, learning that God is everywhere.

For Formal Schooling: 4th Lord as Seed

• For the learning done at school, Sanjay Rath uses the 4th lord as the seed, because the 4th is education.

"Siddhāṁśa is the chart that shows your siddhi. But if you are concerned about the material learning that you do at school, then you should use the 4th lord."

Which House for Which Learning

• 4th: basic learning.
• 9th: the bachelor's degree.
• 10th: professional learning — what to learn for one's career.

Applied to This Chart

• D-24 lagna is Taurus. The mother's time is trusted, but a shift of 47 seconds would move it to Aries, so the lagna is being tested as the reading goes.
• 4th lord of the rāśi chart is Moon. In D-24 he is in Libra. Aries is stronger than Libra, so the daśā is started from Aries.

Taurus daśā (1990 – 2001)

• Taurus is the D-24 lagna. Its lord Venus is in the 12th.
• Taurus is Pṛṣṭhodaya: the sign gives in the last 1/3. The lord and the aspectors take the first two thirds and are not looked at here.
• Houses aspecting Taurus: 3rd, 6th and 9th.
• Padas aspecting it, as read in class: A11, A6, A8, A3, UL and A5. (The recording garbles the last one; the published class notes give A5.)
• In a chart of formal learning, as in career:
  • A3 = a short break. A vacation from school, or six months as a co-op at a company and back.
  • A8 = a complete break, complete giving up.
• A8 and A3 aspect the sign, and the sign gives in the last third. He dropped out at the end of 1998 — inside the last third of Taurus daśā.
• There is no way to order the results within the sign's third.
• Because Taurus fits, PVNR concludes the D-24 lagna is accurate and what follows can be said with reasonable confidence.

Gemini daśā (2001 Jan – 2006 Jan)

• Gemini is Śīrṣodaya and its lord Mercury is in a Śīrṣodaya sign (Scorpio). Sign in the first 1/3, lord in the middle 1/3, occupants and aspectors in the last 1/3 (2004 May – 2006 Jan).
• Sun is in Gemini; Saturn aspects it from Sagittarius. Order by longitude, the more advanced first: Sun 27°, Saturn 6°.

Sun — 2004 May to 2005 March

• Sun is the 4th lord of D-24. His agenda is education. He is in the 2nd, the house of resources.
• A planet whose agenda is learning, placed in the house of resources, uses the resources for learning. A planet whose agenda is to stop learning — the 8th lord — placed there would waste them.
• A relatively better period for enrolling in courses and trying.

Saturn — 2005 March 11 to 2006 January 11

• Saturn is 9th and 10th lord from Taurus: the yogakāraka of this chart, a functional benefic for learning.
• He is in the 8th, the house of hard work. A yogakāraka in the 8th may give a break, but it comes with 9th and 10th house results: a good name, dharma fulfilled.
• His aspect on the 2nd: he uses the resources in a way that brings a good name. Better even than Sun's period.
• The native is studying for a bachelor's degree. The 9th is the house for that and Saturn is its lord: good for finishing the degree. As 10th lord, also for thinking about what to learn for a career.
• Prediction: after March 11 he is more aware of his duty and more interested in finishing the programme and moving on.

Confirmation — Tithi Praveśa of 2005

• Hora lord Sun, who is also the lagna lord (Leo rises). Lagna lord as ruler of the year: good health, a new beginning, a fresh lease of life. An auspicious year, unlike 2010 where the 6th lord rules.
• Sun is at 28°, Venus and Mercury at 10°. There is a rāja yoga with 10th lord Venus, not a strong one. Sun is in no strong yoga.
• But he is well placed: in the 5th, in the sign of Jupiter, who is in one of the three signs next to him and so a temporary friend as well as a permanent one — an adhimitra. Jupiter aspects him (rāśi dṛṣṭi). He is happy there.
• D-24 of the year:
  • Hora lord in the 10th: awareness of what to learn for a career.
  • The lagna lord of every divisional chart matters, not only the hora lord. Lagna lord Venus is in a quadrant with 9th lord Mercury: a rāja yoga. Lagna and 9th lords together: he understands his duty and does it. The 9th is also the house of the bachelor's degree, so a lot of progress in it this year.
  • They aspect lagna: a fresh start.

The Advice

• He may be a spiritual person, but in the last few years he was more confused than making spiritual progress. "This is not the way to make spiritual progress. There is time for everything."
• Somebody he will listen to should sit down with him now and tell him gently: he is bright, he will do well, the next ten years are very good for his career.
• He should concentrate on the bachelor's degree for the next year. PVNR believes he will.
