BPHS Ch.25 — 2nd Lord in Houses 1–6: A2 (Dhanarudha) Positions, Harsh Speech (2L in 1H), Bold from Enemy in House (2L in 3H) & Wealth from Enemies (2L in 6H)
2L in 1H: wealthy (brings resources to lagna); thorn to family (focuses family on himself; demands attention); harsh speech (2L = 12th from 2H of speech; A2 in 12H = loss of wealth, or wealth abroad); does others' work (A2 in 12H → from 6H of service, A2 is in 7H quadrant = resources better for serving others); desires (2H=3rd from 12H; lagna is 2nd from 12H = Argala on 12H of bed pleasures). 2L in 2H: wealthy (2L in its own house like LL in lagna); proud/confident (A2 in 11H → in trine from 9th = promotes confidence); multiple marriages (2H = strong Maraka for 7H); difficulty with children (Virosh Argala on 5H + 3/4 aspect from 2nd). 2L in 3H: bold (enemy in house = must care for it, neutralized if 2L friendly to 3L); intelligent (Argala on 5H); virtuous (aspects 9H with full aspect); miserly (accumulation agenda + controls spending from 3H); if malefic = anti-religious (aspects 9H in hostile way). 2L in 4H: all kinds of wealth; A2 in first trine from 2H = "Arudha of 2nd in trine from 2nd = like lagna lord in trine from lagna, very auspicious for wealth"; with Jupiter exalted = king-equivalent. 2L in 5H: wealthy; children contribute to wealth/family business (A2 in 5H also; "A2 + 2L both in 5H — very well placed"). 2L in 6H: with benefics = money from enemies (accumulation agenda → fights enemies and takes their money); with malefics = danger from enemies + possible leg injury (A2 in 10H = lower legs; "Maraka in A2 position = physical injury to that body part"). A2 table: 1H→12H; 2H→11H; 3H→9H; 4H→6H; 5H→5H; 6H→10H.
"The 2nd lord in the 4th house — he is spending accumulated money on comfort. When will you use your bank balance for comfort? Only if you have enough. That shows you are really wealthy. And A2 is in a trine from the 2nd house for the first time — like lagna lord in trine from lagna. Very auspicious for wealth."
— P.V.R. Narasimha Rao
BPHS Chapter 25 — 2nd Lord in Houses (Verses 13 onwards)
Verse 13 — 2nd Lord in Lagna (1st House)
Sanskrit results:
- Putravān dhānasamyutaha — good/happy with children; wealthy
- Kutumbakantakaha — thorn to the family; problematic within the family
- Kāmī — full of desires (especially physical pleasures)
- Nishturaha — harsh in speech, blaming others; not diplomatic
- Parakarya-krit — always doing other people's work
Why the results make sense:
Putravān (children/happy with them):
- 2nd lord (family lord) is in lagna → in the 9th house from 5th (trine to 5th = fortune for 5th)
- "He is the lord of the house of family in a trine from children's house — he gives fortune with respect to children"
Dhānasamyutaha (wealth):
- 2nd lord's purpose is to bring the resources of the 2nd house — his job is money
- Placed in lagna → "he brings material resources to the lagna; he will bring something to the table"
- Uses wealth to look after himself, maintain good health, remain prosperous
Kutumbakantakaha (thorn to the family):
- 2nd lord in lagna = his intelligence (lordship) is focused on lagna (self) rather than on the family
- "He is using the family for himself" — family has to pay attention to him, revolve around him
- He demands attention; family has to focus energy on him
- Not universal — just a strong possibility; but "family has to pay a lot of attention to this person"
Kāmī (desires / lust):
- 2nd house is the 3rd from 12th (12th = bed pleasures/comforts)
- 3rd = initiative, drive → 2nd lord governs the drive for bed pleasures
- 2nd lord in lagna → Argala on 12th house (lagna is 2nd from 12th)
- "The lord of the Parakrama (3rd from 12th) having Argala on 12th — the drive becomes a resource for sex"
- Special note: Venus+Mars in 2nd house (especially in Navamsa) = very lustful
Nishturaha (harsh speech):
- 2nd house = speech; 2nd lord is in the 12th house from 2nd (lagna is 12th from 2nd)
- "Lord of the house of speech is in the 12th from speech → something undesirable about speech" = harsh, undiplomatic
- Also: A2 (Arudha of 2nd) falls in the 12th house
- A2 in 12th = possible loss of wealth suddenly; "the bank may go bankrupt"; BUT 12th also = foreign lands, so could mean wealth hidden abroad
Parakarya-krit (always doing others' work):
- A2 is in 12th house — his tangible wealth/resources are not easily usable for his own work
- BUT from the 6th house of service as lagna, A2 is in the 7th house (quadrant) → "he may actually be able to use his resources more when working for somebody else"
- His resources are more conducive to service to others than to himself
Verse 14 — 2nd Lord in 2nd House
Sanskrit results:
- Dhanavan — wealthy
- Garbhasamyuktaha — has pride/arrogance (confidence)
- Dvibhāryo bahubhāryo vā — two or more wives; relationships don't last
- Sutahī nāhaprajāyate — difficulty getting/begetting children
Why the results make sense:
Dhanavan (wealth):
- 2nd lord in 2nd = "lagna lord in lagna" principle applied to 2nd house
- "Taking 2nd as lagna, lagna lord is in lagna — 2nd house is fortified" → wealthy
Garbhasamyuktaha (pride/confidence):
- Where does A2 fall? → 2nd lord in 2nd → count 10th from 2nd = 11th house → A2 in 11th
- A2 in 11th = tangible wealth in 9th from 3rd house (3rd = confidence/boldness)
- "Arudhas in a trine from a house promote that house" → wealth boosts confidence
- Also: A2 is 12th from 12th → shows loss of humility
- "Not necessarily arrogant, but very confident — wealth helps promote confidence; this can come across as pride"
Dvibhāryo bahubhāryo (many wives):
- 2nd house is the house of second marriage
- 2nd lord in 2nd = 2nd house is "unbelievably strong" → strong indication of second or multiple marriages
- Also: 2nd lord is Maraka for 7th house → "he is a strong Maraka for the 7th house — relationships are not long-lived"
Sutahī nāhaprajāyate (difficulty with children):
- 2nd house has Virosh Argala (obstruction) on the 5th house (obstructs the 5th house)
- "Even if there is a positive Argala on 5th from 8th house, this planet in 2nd is obstructing it"
- 2nd lord also has 3/4 aspect on the 5th house from the 2nd house
- "3/4 aspect can never be overlooked — it has a desire to influence children and may deny them"
- Caveat: "Cannot say definitively; only thing is the 3/4 aspect should be taken into account — it's a signal, not a verdict"
Verse 15 — 2nd Lord in 3rd House
Results (conditional — different for benefic vs. malefic planet):
If a benefic planet:
- Vikramī — courageous, bold
- Matimān — intelligent
- Gunī — virtuous, good qualities
- Kāmī — desireful
- Lobhī — miserly, doesn't spend much
If a malefic planet:
- Devanindakaha — heterodox, insults gods/religion, anti-religious
Why the results make sense:
Vikramī (bold):
- 2nd lord's normal role: accumulate, potentially cause loss to 3rd house
- But "placed IN the 3rd house, the one who is supposed to reduce boldness is himself told to give boldness — so there is a very good chance the person will be quite bold"
- "If the one who is supposed to destroy the house is put in the house and told to take care of it, and if his relationship with the house lord is good — there is no problem"
Matimān, Gunī (intelligence, virtue):
- 2nd lord in 3rd: Argala on 5th house (driving intelligence)
- 3rd lord aspects the 9th house (full) and 10th house (3/4 aspect)
- "Aspecting the 9th house with full aspect — gives honor to the person, principles, piety, virtues"
- 2nd house = speech; planet in 3rd = communication; "uses speech to communicate and comes across as intelligent"
Kāmī (desires):
- "3rd house is the house of desire — simple"
Lobhī (miserly):
- 2nd lord's basic agenda: accumulate money
- "3rd house decides the direction of spending (Argala on 12th)"
- "The planet who is supposed to accumulate money is placed in the house that decides spending — he will say 'the direction of spending will be NO spending so that we accumulate more'"
- His accumulation agenda overrides spending
Devanindakaha (if malefic):
- Malefic 2nd lord in 3rd aspects the 9th house of dharma
- From 9th house, 2nd house is the 6th house (enmity) — "2nd lord shows some enmity to religion"
- Malefic + aspect on 9th + 6th lord from 9th = "inimical to religion, fighting against dharma"
Verse 16 — 2nd Lord in 4th House
Sanskrit results:
- Sarva sampat samanvitaha — accompanied by all kinds of wealth; very wealthy
- With Jupiter conjunct and exalted: equivalent to a king
Why the results make sense:
Sarva sampat (all wealth):
- 2nd lord = accumulated wealth; 4th house = sukha (comfort)
- "The planet supposed to make you accumulate money is showing you comfort — you are spending accumulated money on comfort. When will you use your bank balance for comfort? Only if you have enough. That shows you are really wealthy."
- A2 (Arudha of 2nd) calculation: 2nd lord in 4th → 10th from 4th = 1st house; cannot be 1st or 7th axis? → actually A2 falls in 6th house from 2nd in the general calculation shown: "for the first time A2 is in a trine from 2nd house" → very auspicious for wealth
- "Arudha of 2nd in a trine from 2nd — it is like lagna lord in a trine from lagna"
With Jupiter exalted = raja-equivalent:
- Jupiter = karaka for money
- Exaltation of 2nd lord + Jupiter's presence = doubly fortified wealth
Verse 17 — 2nd Lord in 5th House
Sanskrit results:
- Jāto dhānasamanvitaha — wealthy
- Dhānoparjanasīlascha — has an attitude/character to earn lots of money; earns a lot
- Jāyante tat sutā api — children are also money-minded / contribute to wealth
Why the results make sense:
Wealthy:
- A2 calculation: 2nd lord in 5th → 10th from 5th = 2nd; cannot be 2/8 axis → 10th from 2nd = 11th house? Actually PVNR says: A2 in 5th house itself (due to the exception rule when standard calculation gives an unacceptable position)
- A2 + 2nd lord both in 5th: "They are in a trine from lagna, in a quadrant from 2nd house — very well placed"
- "So far everybody has been wealthy — it shows different HOW they utilize wealth"
Children help grow wealth:
- 2nd lord (wealth) in 5th (children) → tangible link between wealth and children
- "Not children who are spending money, but children who are contributing to A2"
- Taking 5th house as lagna: "10th lord and 10th Arudha are in lagna" → children are workaholics; they work hard
- "They get into family business, go to the shops from a young age, take care of father's business — those kinds of children"
- Key distinction: "Not mean/greedy children — just that their attitude is to grow the wealth; no lazy attitude of just enjoying for themselves"
Verse 18 — 2nd Lord in 6th House
Sanskrit results (conditional):
If with benefics: Gets money from enemies If with malefics: Trouble/danger from enemies; possible leg handicap (jangha vaikalya)
Why the results make sense:
Money from enemies (with benefics):
- 2nd lord's agenda = accumulate money; placed in 6th = told to give enmity/fights
- "The planet says: fine, I will give enmity and fights, but it should result in getting some of their money and accumulating it — because that is my basic agenda"
- "If the 2nd lord is fortified in the 6th house, he can actually make you fight enemies and take their money away"
Danger from enemies (with malefics):
- 2nd lord = Maraka planet; in 6th house with malefics = "strong Maraka in 6th can give fights, quarrels with enemies, and as a result death also"
- "Death or death-like situation faced on account of rivalry or enmity"
Jangha vaikalya (leg/lower leg handicap):
- A2 falls in 10th house (from 2nd lord in 6th → 10th from 6th = 3rd; exception? → A2 in 10th)
- "10th house = lower legs" (in body significations: 9th = thighs, 10th = lower legs/knees)
- "A2 of this Maraka house is in 10th house — the house where A2 is, if the lord is not well placed, could show a problem, a breakage, or Maraka kind of thing to that body part"
- The 2nd lord (Maraka) showing enmity + A2 in body-part house → physical injury in that area
