BPHS Ch.24 — 2nd Lord in Houses 1–6: A2 (Dhanarudha) Positions, Harsh Speech (2L in 1H), Bold from Enemy in House (2L in 3H) & Wealth from Enemies (2L in 6H)

BPHS Chapter 24 — 2nd Lord in Houses 1–6

The class is at chapter 24, verse 13 of the Santhanam edition. The 12th-house results of the lagna lord were finished last time; the 2nd lord starts here.

Verse 13 — 2nd Lord in Lagna

Results:

• Putravān — has children; fortunate through children
• Dhanasaṁyutaḥ — has wealth
• Kuṭumbakaṇṭakaḥ — a thorn to the family
• Kāmī — full of desire
• Niṣṭhuraḥ — harsh, always blaming others
• Parakāryakṛt — always doing other people's work

Mixed result: money and children, but a problem for the family and not lucky, because he keeps doing others' work.

Putravān:

• A student's answer, accepted: the lord of the house of family is in a trine from the 5th — lagna is the 9th from the 5th, protecting it.
• "Putravān literally means having children, but just having children is not the intended meaning." It means lucky in some way with respect to children, which is what the 9th from the 5th gives.

Dhanasaṁyutaḥ:

• The rule used through the whole chapter:

"The resources that the lord of any house has are what are shown by that house, and the house occupied by the planet is what he is told to do."

• So the 2nd lord in lagna brings the material resources of the 2nd house to lagna, the overall well-being of the person.
• He does not just have money; he uses it on himself — to look good, to stay in good health.

Kuṭumbakaṇṭakaḥ:

• The 2nd lord is the intelligence of the 2nd house, and it is focused on the 1st. He is not putting his mind on the family; he is using the family for himself.
• The family has to focus on him and worry about him. He demands their attention.
• Not every native with 2nd lord in lagna is a thorn to the family. It is one possibility.

"Parāśara samples the whole space and gives a few results — some good, some bad, some crazy — so that you get an idea."

Kāmī:

• Desire is seen from the 7th, but here it is desire for physical pleasure. The 12th house is the house of pleasures of the bed.
• The 2nd house is the 3rd from the 12th — the initiative for bed pleasures. So the 2nd lord always matters for judging how lustful a person is.
• Venus and Mars together in the 2nd house, especially in navāṁśa, make a person very lustful.
• Placed in lagna (the physical body), the 2nd lord has argalā on the 12th house (lagna is the 2nd from the 12th): the urge becomes a resource for the 12th.

Niṣṭhuraḥ:

• The 2nd house is also speech. Its lord is in the 12th from it — something undesirable about speech. It could be harsh speech or something else.
• A2 also falls in the 12th house. A2 is the bank balance; the 12th is loss. Beyond what Parāśara lists, such a person can suddenly lose a lot of money — "the bank may go bankrupt."
• The 12th is also foreign lands, so A2 there can equally be a large balance kept abroad. Judge all the factors.

Parakāryakṛt:

• Work only from what is known: lagna, 2nd lord in lagna, A2 in the 12th.
• A2 is his resources. In the 12th it is not in a kendra or koṇa from lagna, so he cannot use them well for his own work.
• From the 6th house (service, hard work, overcoming obstacles) A2 is in the 7th — a quadrant. An ārūḍha in the 7th from a house is useful to that house.
• So his resources serve him better when he is working for somebody else. Compared with the 10th or the 7th, A2 is better placed from the 6th.

Verse 14 — 2nd Lord in the 2nd House

Results:

• Dhanavān — wealthy
• Garvasaṁyuktaḥ — proud
• Dvibhāryo bahubhāryo vā — two or more wives
• Sutahīnaḥ — without children; trouble begetting children

Dhanavān: the most straightforward. Take the 2nd as lagna: lagna lord in lagna, the house is fortified.

Garvasaṁyuktaḥ:

• Common sense: one who has money has a good chance of being proud.
• A2 falls in the 11th house.
• The 3rd house shows initiative, bravery and also pride, more than the 2nd does. From the 3rd, the 2nd lord is the 12th lord in the 12th — a good yoga from that house.
• More important, A2 is in the 9th from the 3rd. The tangible wealth promotes the 3rd house: he has money and he is also confident about it. Some people have money and are still not confident.

"Any ārūḍhas that are in a trine from a house promote that house."

• Humility is seen from the 12th. The 2nd lord is in the 3rd from the 12th, and A2 is in the 12th from the 12th — loss of humility.
• The teacher reads garva as raised confidence that can come across as pride — not arrogance or foolhardiness. Sun and lagna still have to be seen for the basic nature.

Dvibhāryo bahubhāryo vā:

• The 7th house is the first marriage; the 2nd is the second marriage. Here the 2nd is "unbelievably strong", so a second marriage, or more, is likely.
• This planet is a māraka for the 7th house. The 7th is relationships in general, so they do not last long.

Sutahīnaḥ:

• From the 2nd lord alone you cannot say there will be no children. The 5th lord and the rest must be seen. The verse shows under what circumstances it can happen.
• The 2nd house has virodha argalā on the 5th: it obstructs the argalā that a planet in the 8th house has on the 5th.
• It bites when the planet is no friend of the 5th lord and Jupiter. Example given: Dhanus lagna — 5th lord Mars, kāraka Jupiter, and Saturn, a friend of neither, strong in Capricorn in the 2nd.
• A planet in the 2nd also aspects the 5th by its 4th aspect, which is a three-quarter aspect (see Part 2). It wants to influence children and may deny them.
• "Take it with a pinch of salt. It is not a foolproof formula." The message of the verse is that the three-quarter aspect must be taken into account. You cannot make a reading on this alone.

Verse 15 — 2nd Lord in the 3rd House

Results if the planet is a benefic / under benefic influence:

• Vikramī — bold
• Matimān — intelligent
• Guṇī — virtuous
• Kāmī — desirous
• Lobhī — miserly

If a malefic: Devanindakaḥ — heterodox, insults the gods and religion. Parāśara does not say the first set stops applying; he adds this result.

Vikramī:

• The 2nd is the 12th from the 3rd, so the 2nd lord's job is to reduce boldness. Here he himself is told to give boldness. Who is left to take it away?

"You may tell somebody who wants to destroy this house, put him in the house and say, take good care of it. Whether he will or not depends on his relation with the house lord, kāraka, etc. But if all those things are conducive — if the one who is supposed to give a loss of this is himself taking care of it — there is no problem."

Matimān:

• From the 3rd he has 11th-house argalā on the 5th house of intelligence.
• The 2nd is speech and the 3rd is communication: he uses speech to communicate well and comes across as intelligent.

Guṇī:

• From the 3rd he aspects the 9th house with full aspect (7th) and the 10th with three-quarter aspect (8th).
• 9th = religiousness, virtues; 10th = honour. He gives honour, principles and piety.

Kāmī: the 3rd house is the house of desire. Simple.

Lobhī:

• The 2nd lord stands for accumulating.
• The 3rd house has argalā on the 12th: it decides the direction of spending.
• Told to decide spending, the accumulator says: "The direction of our spending will be no spending, so that we accumulate more money." Again it depends on the relationships.

Devanindakaḥ (malefic):

• A malefic planet aspecting the 9th house wants to influence dharma, and does so against it.
• From the 9th house, the 2nd is the 6th — the house of the enemy. The 2nd lord carries some enmity towards religion.
• So a malefic 2nd lord in the 3rd can be anti-religious, more than merely irreligious — he fights it, the fighting coming from the 6th.

Verse 16 — 2nd Lord in the 4th House

Results:

• Sarvasampatsamanvitaḥ — accompanied by every kind of wealth. (The teacher corrects the printed text, which drops the halanta: it is sarvasampat-samanvitaḥ.)
• If the planet is with Jupiter and exalted — rājatulyaḥ, equal to a king.

Why:

• The 2nd is accumulated wealth; the 4th is sukha. The planet meant to make you accumulate is showing comfort: accumulated money is being spent on comfort.

"When will you use your bank balance for comfort? If you can afford enough."

• Only a small part of what one has goes on comfort. If you are buying a good bed, good clothes, jewellery, there is a good chance you are wealthy.
• A2 falls in the 6th house. From lagna that can cost his own health. But from the 2nd house the 6th is a trine.
• In verses 13–15 A2 was not in a trine from the 2nd. Here, for the first time, it is. It is like the ārūḍha lagna being in a trine from lagna — very good for the 2nd house.
• Jupiter is the kāraka for money; with him, and exalted, it is very auspicious.

Verse 17 — 2nd Lord in the 5th House

Results:

• Dhanasamanvitaḥ — wealthy
• Dhanopārjanaśīlaḥ — has the attitude to earn a lot of money
• Jāyante tatsutā api — his children too are after money

Wealthy:

• A2: the 2nd lord in the 5th is in the 4th from the 2nd. The 4th from there is the 8th house, which is the 7th from the 2nd — not acceptable. Take the 10th from it: the 5th house itself.
• So the 2nd lord and A2 are both in the 5th: in a trine from lagna and a quadrant from the 2nd. "Very well placed."
• "So far everybody has been wealthy. It is funny." Any of these can be wealthy; other factors have to be seen. What differs is how the wealth is used — here for children (5th) and, being a trine from lagna, for his own well-being.

Children after money:

• A2 is in the 5th: his wealth is linked with his children. Wealth may come when children are born; when they grow up they manage it.
• Children and A2 are together: the children do not waste the money, they add to A2. "There is a synergy."
• They get into the family business, go to the shop from a young age, look after the father's business and help the money grow.
• Take the 5th as lagna: the 10th lord and the ārūḍha of the 10th are in lagna. The planet of work sits on the body — the children are workaholics, not idle people.
• It does not mean the children are mean or money-minded. Śīla is attitude: they have an attitude of growing the wealth, not a lazy one of enjoying it for themselves.

Verse 18 — 2nd Lord in the 6th House

Results:

• With benefics — śatruto dhanam: gets money from enemies
• With malefics — śatruto hāniḥ: danger from enemies; and jaṅghāvaikalyavān — handicapped in the leg. Jaṅghā is the knee and lower-leg area.

Money from enemies:

• The 2nd lord's agenda is to accumulate money. In the 6th he is told to give enmity and fights.
• "The planet says, okay, I will give enmity and fights, but it should result in getting some of their money and accumulating it."
• A fortified 2nd lord in the 6th makes you fight enemies and take their money.

Danger from enemies:

• The 2nd lord is a māraka; with malefics he is a strong māraka. In the 6th he gives quarrels with enemies and, through them, death or a death-like situation on account of rivalry.

Jaṅghāvaikalya — "that is too specific", so there must be a reason:

• Students point to the 10th house. The planet in the 6th aspects the 10th by half aspect (5th).
• More important, A2 falls in the 10th house.
• The lesson from the verse: the house where the ārūḍha of this māraka house (the 2nd) falls can, if the lord is not well placed, show a breakage or māraka-type harm to what that house stands for.
• Thighs are the 9th house; the 10th is the lower legs.
