Venus-Mercury Antardasha (July 2004 – May 2007) — Cheney's Difficult Period

Bhoga

• Mercury is in the 6th from Venus; the 6th from Mercury is Cancer, the 9th from D10 lagna. Bhoga in the 9th → no serious problem.

From D10 Lagna (Scorpio)

• Mercury is 8th and 11th lord — a functional malefic. The 8th lord shows ups and downs, tension, anxiety, worry.
• He is with Sun (10th lord = the overall career) and Ketu (lagna lord = his very being as far as career goes). An 8th lord spoils the lords he afflicts.
• Mercury is in Arudha Lagna. "If the 8th lord is in Arudha Lagna, your image will take a beating." Hence bad name and a tarnished image.
• As 11th lord he gives gains too. As 8th lord he can retire him or take him close to retirement.
• A student asks when the 11th-house result comes and when the 8th-house result. That is very tough to separate. Both come together: he gains, and as a result of gaining he gets into controversies that give him a bad name and tension.

From Venus (the Dasha Lord)

Not every Mercury antardasha is alike. To see how it behaves in this dasha, take the dasha lord as lagna.

• From Venus (Virgo), Mercury is lagna lord and 10th lord in the 6th → he has to overcome obstacles to do his work; opponents try to curb him.
• Mercury in the 6th is resourceful and uses those resources to fight. "If it was some other planet in the 6th house, maybe he would be giving up." Mercury does not give up — he keeps fighting.

Synthesis

• The position from Venus and the ownership and position from lagna match: many problems, and he fights back, not resigning.
• "From 2004 July till 2007 May, it may be a slow decline for him."
• The next year and a half or so does not look auspicious.

Venus-Ketu Antardasha (May 2007 – 2008)

• Bhoga: Ketu is in the 6th from Venus; the 6th from Ketu is Cancer, the 9th from D10 lagna. No fall, nothing undesirable — he is discharging his dharma and being blessed for it.
• Ketu is lagna lord, not an 8th lord like Mercury.
• From Venus, Ketu is 3rd lord in the 6th. A malefic in the 6th is very good, and an upachaya lord in another upachaya is excellent. Had he been, say, 9th lord in the 6th, it would not be so good.
• So this is not fighting and fighting. It is easy fighting — destroying enemies.
• "2007–2008 is a period when he will be able to get back at his rivals and enemies and put them down."
• One undesirable thing a student notices: Ketu is with the Sun. From Venus the Sun is 12th lord, and the 12th lord is being eclipsed by Ketu — that is not bad. Though the Sun is 10th lord from lagna, in Venus dasha he is not an important planet. PVNR does not worry about it.

2000 TP — Validation (Election Year)

Before reading the current year PVNR tests the birth data: does the annual chart of 2000 show a man becoming Vice President? (Tithi Pravesha 2000: 8 February 2000, about 9:07 PM at Lincoln. The year runs to the next Tithi Pravesha on 28 January 2001, so the election, the court cases and the oath all fall inside it.)

• Ruler of the year (Hora Lord): Jupiter
• TP Dasamsa: Gemini lagna. Mercury and Rahu in lagna; Mars and Ketu in Sagittarius (7H); Moon in Capricorn (8H) with Ghati Lagna and A6; Sun and Jupiter in Taurus (12H); Venus in Leo (3H); Saturn in Virgo (4H). Arudha Lagna in Pisces.

The Three Events and Their Periods

The periods of the year, from the published class notes:

• Moon's period — the disputed election: a controversial verdict, many court cases, anxiety over whether they would hold office at all.
  • Moon is in the 8th, which is Marana Karaka Sthana for him → great tension.
  • Ghati Lagna is there → the tension is about power.
  • A6 is there → tangible enmity, a tangible quarrel, litigation.
• Mars's period — declared winners after the Supreme Court intervened.
  • Mars is 6th and 11th lord in the 7th, with Ketu and A4, aspected by lagna lord Mercury from Gemini.
  • The 7th is the Marana Karaka Sthana for Mars. For a man in a job, 6th lord in the 7th can show the end of service — losing the job. Cheney was not in service; he was in a fight. So it shows the end of the litigation.
• Mercury dasha, Rahu antardasha (14–21 January 2001) — the oath.
  • Lagna lord Mercury, in own house, and 9th lord Rahu together in lagna, with A5 = a Lakshmi Yoga, a Raj Yoga.
  • Lagna always shows a new beginning. The Raj Yoga in lagna = a new beginning in professional life, in a powerful position.

Does the Fight End in His Favour?

• Look from Arudha Lagna — his status, image, manifestation.
• Internally (from lagna): 6th lord in the 7th — a lot of fire is extinguished.
• From Arudha Lagna, Mars is in the 10th.
  • For a saint, Mars in the 10th from Arudha Lagna is a blemish on the image — seen as somebody fighting for something. Jupiter there is what suits a saint.
  • For a materialistic person, a political leader, a soldier, it is quite good: the world looks at him as a winner, a warrior, a conqueror.
• Combine the two: the litigation finishes, and it can finish in his favour.
• The enemies: look from A6, the opposition and litigation he got. Mars is in the 12th from A6 → they are losing.

The Ruler of the Year Must Be Involved

"Look at the ruler of the year. He is the king during the year. Any planet wants to give a result, it will be able to give the result only if the ruler of the year is involved."

• Mars and Ketu are in Sagittarius, Jupiter's house, and Jupiter is a friend, especially of Mars.
• A planet has the ruler's cooperation when it is with him, in trine from him, or in his sign. Friendship makes it work: "If I am in Jupiter's house and I am an enemy of Jupiter, I may not have the ear of Jupiter."
• A student objects that Jupiter himself is in the 12th. Whatever you conclude about Jupiter, apply it to Jupiter's own dasha. For the other planets the question is only whether they have his cooperation.
• All three events fit. The birth data is reasonably good.

2004 TP — Validation (Re-election)

• Ruler of the year: Mercury
• TP Dasamsa: Scorpio lagna. Mars and Jupiter in Aries (6H); Moon in Virgo (11H) with Arudha Lagna; Sun in Sagittarius (2H); Mercury and Ketu in Taurus (7H).

Is the Year Fit to Retain Power?

• Lagna lord Mars and 5th lord Jupiter are together. Lagna lord + 5th lord is always an excellent Raj Yoga, and the two are friends.
• Mars is also 6th lord in the 6th — a yoga in itself (the published class notes name it Sarala Yoga). He is very bold this year. There is a lot of fighting to do in an election year.
• "The person is already a Vice President and there is a Raj Yoga in that particular election-year chart. You don't have to look at anything else. You can directly say he will continue in power."

Losing Power Would Show

• You would see the 5th lord or the 10th lord in the 3rd or the 8th, or some such negative mark.
• "From 1 to 0 is a big deal." A majority going from 100 to 80 is not. A Vice President becoming an ordinary citizen is, and you will definitely see it. Nothing of that kind is here.

Which Planet Delivers It

• Mercury, the ruler of the year, has no association with Mars and Jupiter. They form the Raj Yoga, but they are not likely to be the ones who hand over the power.
• Look at the 5th house, Pisces: Mars and Jupiter have Argala on it (2nd from it). Sun and Moon have rasi drishti on it. Moon has graha drishti as well.
• Moon is 9th lord, aspects the 5th, sits in Virgo — a sign owned by the ruler of the year, in trine to him — and Arudha Lagna is there.
• So the Moon delivers. The election result came in Moon's period and the tension went away. The swearing-in in January fell in Mercury's period again.

2005 TP — Current Year Analysis

Tithi Pravesha 2005: 11 February 2005, about 6:21 PM at Lincoln.

• Ruler of the year: Saturn
• TP Dasamsa: Virgo lagna. Sun and Mercury in Gemini (10H); Saturn and Mars in Pisces (7H); Venus and Moon in Aquarius (6H); Rahu in Aries (8H); Jupiter in Capricorn (5H); Ketu in Libra (2H).

The Dasamsa

• Sun in the 10th, but as 12th lord. Not so great.
• Saturn (6th lord) and Mars (8th lord) in the 7th. Two dusthana lords together in a dusthana would be Viparita Raja Yoga; together in a quadrant it is a bad yoga. Mars is also in his Marana Karaka Sthana. The 7th house — relationships — is spoiled this year.
• 3rd and 8th lord Mars with 5th lord Saturn can show losing power too.
• Venus, the 9th lord, in the 6th — the Marana Karaka Sthana for Venus. The 9th lord is dharma, bhagya, protection. "He will be running out of luck during this year."
  • "If the 9th lord is your protection, if he is in Marana Karaka Sthana, it is not a good year. Period."
• Planets in Aquarius, Pisces and Aries — the 6th, 7th and 8th — mark the year as inauspicious: anxiety, tension, running out of luck.
• Saving grace: lagna lord Mercury in own house — "the greatest blessing."
• Jupiter is 4th and 7th lord; his strength bears only on comfort. Whatever happens, he stays comfortable. Jupiter and Saturn are in Parivartana, so Jupiter acts as if he were in Pisces. PVNR leaves this for the class to work out: "Whatever we have done is not actually perfect. Saturn–Jupiter Parivartana changes a lot of things."

Litigation

• The 6th house (Venus and Moon) shows no strong litigation. Saturn and Mars have Argala on the 6th and Mars is its karaka, so there is some fighting.
• A tangible litigation in his own name must be seen from A6.
• Rahu is in A6. But Rahu is 6th lord in the 8th, giving Viparita Raja Yoga: "You go to the brink, but you don't fall. You go to the edge, but you don't fall, and then you start doing well."
• Somebody associated with him may be caught in a problem, and it may look as though he is stuck in it too. He comes out.
• Danger months: Rahu's period, June–July; and Mars's period, December–January (Mars is the lord of A6).
• Verdict from the Dasamsa: not a good year, but he does not fall from power, is not indicted, does not go to prison.

Imprisonment — Read It from Rasi

A student checks the Rasi chart for prison. PVNR: that is right.

• Imprisonment restricts the body, so it is seen in the Rasi chart of the year.
• Dasamsa may show nothing. A mafia don in jail may be running his operation, moving money from bank to bank, exactly as from his house. The professional environment is unchanged; physically he is confined.
• Check the 12th house and its lord, Bandhana Sahama, and Saturn, the karaka for imprisonment.
• 2005 Rasi (Leo lagna): 12th lord Moon is in the 8th; the 12th house is not strong; no link between Bandhana Sahama, the 12th lord and Saturn → probably no imprisonment this year.

2006 TP — Continued Difficulties

Tithi Pravesha 2006: 1 February 2006, about 7:39 AM at Lincoln.

• Ruler of the year: Venus

Rasi of the Year (Capricorn Lagna)

• Venus is Yogakaraka — 5th and 10th lord. His agenda is to give power and following.
• But he is in the 12th. A planet in the 12th shows some compromise, some giving up. Theoretically imprisonment or hospitalization are possible.
• Bandhana Sahama is in Leo. It is not linked with the 12th house; the 12th lord (Jupiter) is in Libra; it is not connected to Saturn either → PVNR would not worry about imprisonment.

Dasamsa of the Year (Aquarius Lagna)

• 2005 was bad: he was a liability to Bush, in all kinds of controversies. Venus in the 6th — he ran out of luck.
• 2006: Venus, the planet of protection and luck, is again in Marana Karaka Sthana (the 6th).
• The good news: he is Yogakaraka and gives a Raj Yoga with Saturn. Lagna lord and 9th lord together is very auspicious.
• "Next year, still not perfect, but things seem better." He regains some power.

2007 TP — Excellent Year

Tithi Pravesha 2007: 22 January 2007, about 1:47 AM at Lincoln. The natal chart already marked this year: the antardasha changes to Ketu.

• Ruler of the year: Moon
• TP Dasamsa: Pisces lagna. Mars in lagna; Sun in Scorpio (9H) with Arudha Lagna; Jupiter in Capricorn (11H); Saturn in Sagittarius (10H); Rahu in Libra (8H); Mercury in Aquarius (12H); Venus in Gemini (4H); Moon in Leo (6H).

Planet by Planet

• Mars, 9th lord and a functional benefic, in lagna — "super".
• Sun, karaka for power, in the 9th, in Arudha Lagna.
• Jupiter, lagna lord, in the 11th. Debilitated, but in the 11th.
• Rahu, 12th lord, in the 8th — excellent. There will be anxiety, but also a great rise.
• Mercury, 4th and 7th lord and Badhakesha, in the 12th — excellent. "All the worries, nagging worries, suddenly disappearing."
• Jupiter–Saturn Parivartana, 10th and 11th lords. Not a Raj Yoga, but a good yoga.
  • The planet in charge of the work you do is told to fulfil your desire; the planet whose job is to fulfil desire is put in the house of work.
  • So the work you do and what you get in return are in harmony.
  • Jupiter, though debilitated, acts as if in the 10th in own house.
• Venus in the 4th. He is karaka for happiness, but 8th lord here — a little unfavourable. The one planet not well placed.
• Moon, a benefic, in the 6th — some fighting that he keeps engaging in.

Count

• From lagna: Mars in lagna, Jupiter (through the Parivartana) in the 10th, Saturn in the 11th, Badhakesha in the 12th, 12th lord in the 8th.
• "Out of the 9 planets, 6 planets are very well placed. Only 3 planets are average placed."

Conclusion

• 2005 is bad. 2006 is also bad, but better. 2007–2008 is a great year.
• "He will have full control in the administration during this year, and whatever he wants to happen will happen." Until then his ability to get things done is restricted.
• A good year for Cheney and a bad one for Libby.

Key Teaching: 4th Lord in 12H — Peace or Loss?

Raised on the 2007 Dasamsa, where 4th lord Mercury is in the 12th. A student says the 4th lord in the 12th can give lack of sukha.

What the 12th House Is

• "The 12th house from lagna is not just loss. It is being at complete peace — either because you gave up, or because you made a compromise."
• Planets in the 12th show either losing something, or having no worries about it.
• Mercury is a benefic when he is not associated with anybody. A benefic in the 12th gives a relaxed mind, peace of mind.

Judge It from the 4th House

• From the 4th house, the 12th house is the 9th. The planet whose job is to give sukha is in the 9th from the house of sukha — he is protecting it, safeguarding it, not destroying it.
• As far as the person is concerned (from lagna), he makes him give up, or makes him very calm. "The 12th house is also the house of being extremely calm, not worried at all."
• Put together: the person is not worried, and his sukha is safeguarded. He has peace.

"4th lord in the 12th house is not a combination for loss of peace. It is a combination for being happy, being relaxed."

A2 and A10 in the 12th

• A student asks about the Arudhas of resources and work falling in the 12th that year: are his resources and his tangible work depleted?
• As far as work is concerned, there is some taking it easy. In the 12th he either gives something up, makes a compromise, or relaxes.
• He has already exerted himself and what needed doing has been started. In this year he sits back.
