BPHS Ch.20 father's death timing verses 13–24. v13: Sun in 6/8/12 + 8L in 9H + 12L in lagna + 6L in 5H = father dies before native's birth (4 placements required; probability 1 in tens of thousands; A12 in family house + A8 in maraka from 9th). v14: Sun in 8H + 8L in 9H = father dies within 1st year. v15: 12L in 9H + 9L debilitated in navamsa/D12 = father dies at 3 or 16. v16: Lagna lord in 12H + 8L conjunct Sun = 2nd or 12th year. v17: Rahu in 4H (=8th from 9H) + Sun in 5H = 16th or 18th year. v18: Sun conjunct Rahu + Saturn in 9H from Moon = father dies definitely at 7 or 19 (dhruvam). 9th from Moon = native's thoughts/emotions about father; Saturn there = deep sadness when father-related. v19: 9L+12L in parivartana = ~28th year ("vada" 4 speeches × "abdhi" 7 oceans = 28; differs from Santhanam's 44). v20: Sun debilitated in navamsa/D12 + Moon same + lagna lord in 8H = 5, 31, or 40. v21: Sun is 9L (Leo/Aries) + afflicted by Mars+Saturn = father still lives to ~50 (Sun in own house is so strong malefics cannot kill father early). v22: Sun in 3H (7th from 9H = maraka from father) + Rahu in 3H or 7H = 6th or 25th year. v23: Saturn in 7H or 8H (samsaptaka with Sun) = 21, 26, or 30. v24: 9L debilitated + lord of debilitation sign in 9H = 26 or 33 (medium combination; partial Nicha Bhanga). Key: these timing ages relate to natural years of the afflicting planet; A8 in maraka from 9H and A12 in 2H are key arudha tools for confirming.

Verse 12 (completed from Lesson 120)
10th lord + 3rd lord together (both weak) + 9th lord debilitated or combust → person lives by begging (see Lesson 120 for full details)
Verse 13: Father Dies Before Birth
Combination:
- Sun in 6th, 8th, or 12th house (dusthana)
- 8th lord in 9th house
- 12th lord in lagna
- 6th lord in 5th house
Result: Father expires before the birth of the native.
Why this combination is severe:
- 12th lord in Lagna: The A12 (arudha of 12th = losses/UL) falls in the 2nd house (family). Loss arudha falling in the family house = loss within the family at around the time of birth.
- A8 in Maraka positions: When 8th lord is in 9th house, A8 (Mrityupada) falls in 10th house. Taking 9th house as reference for father, A8 is in the 2nd or 7th from 9th (Maraka houses from father).
- A6 and A8 in mutual Kendras: 6th lord in 5th + 8th lord in 9th places A6 and A8 in mutual axis from 9th house reference = suffering + setback concentrated around father.
Probability note: This combination requires 4 simultaneous placements → probability = 1/(4 × 12³) — extremely rare. Even partially satisfied = some problem relating to father.
Verse 14: Father Dies in 1st Year
Combination: Sun in 8th house + 8th lord in 9th house
Result: Father expires within the 1st year of native's life.
Why:
- Sun (karaka of father) in 8th = setback to father's vitality
- 8th lord in 9th = afflicts the 9th house (father's house)
- A8 falls in 7th house from 9th from Sun (= 4th from lagna), which is a Maraka from the father's reference chart
Verse 15: Father Dies in 3rd or 16th Year
Combination: 12th lord in 9th house + 9th lord debilitated in navamsa or dvadasamsa
Result: Father expires in the 3rd or 16th year of native's life.
Verse 16: Father Dies in 2nd or 12th Year
Combination: Lagna lord in 12th house + 8th lord conjunct Sun
Result: Father expires in the 2nd or 12th year of native's life.
Verse 17: Father Dies in 16th or 18th Year
Combination: Rahu in 4th house (= 8th from 9th) + Sun in 5th house (aspected by Rahu from 4th)
Result: Father expires in 16th or 18th year.
Why:
- 4th house = 8th from the 9th house (father's maraka position)
- Rahu aspects Sun (karaka for father) + aspects 9th from Sun
- The specific years 16 and 18 may relate to Rahu's natural year significance and Naishargika Dasha schemes
Verse 18: Father Dies in 7th or 19th Year
Combination: Sun conjunct Rahu (in any house) + Saturn in 9th house from Moon
Result: Father's death is "dhruvam" (definite) in 7th or 19th year.
Why:
- Sun-Rahu conjunction = karaka for father eclipsed by shadowy planet
- 9th from Moon = thoughts and emotions of the native relating to father (not just 9th from lagna)
- "Moon is the karaka of mind; 9th house from Moon = the thought of the native relating to father"
- Saturn there = native will feel deep sadness when father-related matters arise; when Saturn dasha comes, sadness about father
- Years 7 and 19 relate to Saturn's natural year numbers and possibly Naishargika Dasha timing
Verse 19: Father Dies Around 28th Year
Combination: 9th lord and 12th lord in parivartana (mutual exchange)
Result: Father expires around the native's 28th year.
Year decoding (PVNR's analysis): Sanskrit term "vadabdhi" = vada (4 types of speech: Para, Pashyanti, Madhyama, Vaikhari) × abdhi (ocean; 7 oceans in scripture) = 4 × 7 = 28 years. PVNR differs from Santhanam's translation of 44.
Verse 20: Father Dies at 5, 31, or 40 Years
Combination: Sun in debilitated navamsa or dvadasamsa + Moon in same navamsa/dvadasamsa + Lagna lord in 8th house
Result: Father expires at 5th, 31st, or 40th year of native's life.
Note: These numbers (5, 31, 40) are associated with specific planets in dasha schemes. The 40-year figure relates to Chatvarimsamsa (D40).
Verse 21: Despite Affliction — Father Lives to ~50th Year
Combination: Sun happens to be the 9th lord (so Sun = 9th lord for Leo lagna or Aries lagna context) + Sun is with Mars and Saturn
Result: Despite Mars and Saturn afflicting Sun, father lives till approximately 50th year.
Key interpretation principle: This verse shows resilience, not weakness. Even with Saturn and Mars afflicting the karaka Sun, the father lives long. The verse is saying: "9th lord Sun being in own house (Leo) is so strong that even malefic affliction cannot kill father early."
PVNR personal comment: "In your case, 9th lord Sun is with Rahu (similar to Saturn) but is in own house — your case is even stronger. Natural years: early 40s are Rahu-ruled (Kalabhairava yoga years). Your father passed during Rahu's natural year period."
Verse 22: Father Dies at 6th or 25th Year
Combination: Sun in 3rd house + Rahu in 3rd or 7th house (PVNR's reading, differing from Santhanam who says 7th from 3rd = 9th)
Result: Father expires in 6th or 25th year.
Why:
- Sun in 3rd = Sun in Maraka from 9th house (3rd = 7th from 9th = Maraka from father's reference)
- Rahu aspects Sun + 9th from Sun is afflicted
- "Both Sun and the 9th house from Sun are being aspected by Rahu"
Verse 23: Father Dies at 21, 26, or 30th Year
Combination: Saturn in 7th or 8th house + Sun-Saturn in samsaptaka (mutual 1st-7th opposition)
Result: Father expires at 21st, 26th, or 30th year.
Why:
- Saturn aspects Sun (karaka affliction)
- Saturn in 7th or 8th aspects lagna or 2nd from 9th (maraka from father)
- "Taking 9th house as lagna for father, Saturn is aspecting either 1st or 2nd house from father's reference"
Verse 24: Father Dies at 26th or 33rd Year (Medium Combination)
Combination: 9th lord debilitated + lord of debilitation sign in 9th house (parivartana-like)
Result: Father expires at 26th or 33rd year.
Assessment: This is a medium combination — neither short-life nor long-life.
- 9th lord debilitated = some weakness for father's vitality
- BUT parivartana potential: lord of debilitation sign coming to 9th = taking 9th as lagna, lagna lord in debility but the lord of debilitation sign is in lagna → partial Nicha Bhanga Raj Yoga
- "Father passes away when native is 26 or 33 — both reasonably long; not really a short life."
Closing verse: "The knower of astrology, having understood these results, should explain them properly to the native."
