The Chart and the Question

The Question

• She did a B.E. in telecommunications. She is just starting her career.
• She has an offer of an HR job and asks: is this the right job for me?

Events Known

1. B.E. in telecom — the student does not know the years. PVNR guesses 1999–2002 (born 1981, no break in studies).
2. Married November 4, 2001.
3. First child born March 16, 2004.
4. Father: retired from an administrative job.

The Plan

"Let's try to see if with the data that she gave, the events make sense. And if the events don't make sense, let's try to change the time a little bit so that the events make sense. And then let's look at the Dasamsa and try to give some prognostication."

Marriage — Jupiter–Sun in the Natal Navamsa

Married November 4, 2001, in Jupiter dasha, Sun antardasha. Can Jupiter–Sun give marriage in this Rasi and Navamsa?

How Far the Navamsa Lagna Can Move

• With 4:28 PM, the Navamsa lagna changes if the time goes back by 2 min 58 sec or forward by 8½ min.
• Assume the Navamsa lagna (Scorpio) is right. That is the first window.

Trines, Quadrants, Dusthanas

"If a planet is associated with a trine, that planet will bring blessings, things that come very easily as a result of all the good things that you did in the past life. If the planet is in quadrants, it shows things that will come with some effort. Whereas if the planet is in a dusthana, it shows you have to put a lot of effort. There is a lot of karmic obstacle to getting what you want."

Jupiter (Dasha Lord)

• In the Navamsa Jupiter is the 5th lord, placed in the 9th house, exalted in Cancer. Lord of one trine sitting in another: blessings in dharmic and marital life, an early and easy marriage.
• Houses that matter for marriage in the Navamsa: 1st (lagna is a new beginning in that area of life), 7th (relationship), 9th (marriage is an act of dharma — by committing to someone you are following your dharma).
• Jupiter aspects the Navamsa lagna (both graha drishti, his 5th aspect, and rasi drishti from Cancer to Scorpio).
• In the Rasi chart the 7th lord Sun is conjoined with Jupiter and Saturn in Virgo. So Jupiter is tied to the 7th lord there.

Sun (Antardasha Lord)

• Sun is the 7th lord of the Rasi chart: the karyesha, the one whose agenda is to get her married physically.
• In the Navamsa he is in Aquarius with Venus (7th lord) and Ketu (lagna lord).

"He is not only having the right agenda, but he is associated with some key planets who have the ability to influence her marital environment. So he basically got her married."

• It could equally have come in Venus, Ketu or Sun antardasha.

Venus, Ketu and the 12th House in Navamsa

• Venus owns the 7th and the 12th in the Navamsa. Venus and Ketu exchange results, so in Ketu's antardasha or dasha Venus's results come — the 7th house and the 12th house both. PVNR's guess: some 12th-house matter shows in Ketu's period.
• The 12th is the house of losses, but in the Navamsa it is also the house of pleasures in bed.

"12th house is the house of giving yourself up. It's the house of compromise, the house of giving up, and pleasures in bed are basically an aspect of it."

Marriage Year — Annual TP Chart of 2001

Her tithi returned on October 11, 2001. She married on November 4, just after the year began, so this year must show marriage. (This chart was read with the 4:28 PM birth time, before the rectification.)

• In this annual chart the Navamsa lagna changes if the birth time goes back by only 1 min 53 sec. Two windows that are not the same give a finer window.

Ruler of the Year: Mars

• Hora lord at the start of the year = Mars. He is the king of the year.
• Annual Rasi lagna is Cancer. Mars is the yogakaraka (5th and 10th lord), placed in the 6th house in Sagittarius, with Ketu.
• A student calls the 6th a bad placement. PVNR: it is very good. Three houses are unconditionally good for Mars: 3, 6 and 11. Ketu's affliction adds something undesirable, but Mars is very well placed.

Agenda and Resources

• The houses a planet owns are his agenda — what he wants to give the native.
• The house he occupies is the resources he has access to. He uses them to fulfil his agenda.
• If he is associated with other planets he uses their resources too, and has to make compromises and fulfil part of their agendas.
• Mars in the 6th has 6th-house resources: giving troubles, or giving the energy to fight back and overcome them. Which one he does depends on his agenda. Here he is yogakaraka. He does not want her to suffer.

"So when a very favorable Mars is placed in that house, it is excellent."

• The second side of the coin: the chart as a whole must be strong, and the lagna lord is the most important planet. Lagna lord Moon is in lagna in own house. A favourable year with auspicious events.

Vivaha Sahama

• Vivaha = marriage; sahama = a significant point in the zodiac.
• In this chart it is in the first degree of Taurus — on a border; with a small error it is in Aries. PVNR proceeds with Taurus.

Karyeshas in the Annual Rasi Chart

• For marriage the main karyeshas are the 7th lord and the 9th lord (9th = dharma).
• Saturn is the 7th lord (and 8th lord), he is the lord of Upapada Lagna, and he is in Taurus, the sign that holds Vivaha Sahama — far from it in degrees, but in the same sign.
• With all these links Saturn, more than the 9th lord Jupiter, is the key planet for making the marriage happen on the physical plane.

Annual Navamsa

• Mars, ruler of the year, owns the 7th house, is in own sign (Scorpio), and sits in Upapada Lagna. Full cooperation from the ruler of the year.
• Jupiter, 9th lord of the Rasi chart, is in the 7th house.
• Saturn is yogakaraka here (Libra lagna) and is conjoined with Moon, the lagna lord of the Rasi chart, in a quadrant (the 10th).
• Saturn is also the dispositor of Venus and in the 7th from Venus, the significator of marriage.

Which Dasha Gives It

• Asked to guess without bias, the class says Mars and Saturn. PVNR: Mars is a candidate, Saturn is the stronger one.
• She married in Moon dasha, Mercury antardasha of the annual chart — not Saturn dasha.
• In the Navamsa Saturn and Moon are together, so they exchange results.

"Saturn will give Moon's results and Moon will give Saturn's results."

"Unless you see the importance of Saturn in both Rasi and Navamsa chart, you will not really completely appreciate why Moon dasha would give the result."

• A student proposes trying the neighbouring Navamsa lagnas. PVNR does not want to: he prefers a yogakaraka Saturn giving marriage to a 5th-and-6th-lord Saturn, and he likes the ruler of the year in Upapada. It is worth checking the alternatives, but when you are reasonably happy you move on.

Childbirth — Annual TP Chart of 2003 and the 4-Minute Correction

Child born March 16, 2004. The year in force began on September 19, 2003, at 6:15:41 PM (with the 4:28 PM birth time). Ruler of the year: Mars again. For children see the Saptamsa (D-7).

With 4:28 PM: the Year Does Not Show a Child

• Annual D-7 lagna (Virgo) holds if the birth time moves back up to about 10½ minutes or forward up to 3 min 45 sec.
• Annual Rasi: Mars is a functional benefic, the 9th lord, but in the 12th house — hospitalisation, loss, compromise.
• Annual D-7 (Virgo lagna):
  • In a woman's chart the 9th house controls children. It is strong: Venus is there in own house. Lagna lord Mercury is in a quadrant. That much is good.
  • Jupiter is afflicted by two malefics.
  • Mars, ruler of the year, is the 3rd and 8th lord in the 7th — his marana karaka sthana — with the 12th lord Sun.
  • Moon is in the 12th.
• A student calls 8th lord with 12th lord a Viparita Raja Yoga. PVNR: it is one if they join in a dusthana, or in a quadrant together with the lagna lord. Alone in a quadrant, only bad lords around, "it's only viparita" — not much raja yoga.
• The child came in Saturn dasha of the annual chart. Saturn is exalted, but he is the 5th and 6th lord. Virgo is an even sign, so the first child is the 5th counted backward = Taurus. You would expect Venus or someone tied to Taurus, not Saturn.

"There are some charts that stand out. You see, this year there is a childbirth — but this doesn't seem to stand out."

Knowledge or Time?

"Either there is something lacking in our understanding, we are missing some very crucial factors, or the time is wrong. It could be either."

• Sometimes a chart cannot be explained however long you look. That is a reminder that our knowledge is imperfect. Nothing can be done about that.
• If the time is wrong, something can be done. So assume the time is wrong and test it.
• Moving back 10 minutes contradicts what was already seen, and the answer still does not look good. So move forward 4 minutes: 4:28 → 4:32 PM.

With 4:32 PM: Libra Rises in the Annual D-7

• The annual Rasi chart is unchanged. The hora lord is still Mars. The dasha on March 16, 2004 is still Saturn.
• Mars is now the 2nd and 7th lord in the 6th house — an upachaya, and a friendly sign. Still a maraka for her in the matter of childbirth, so some physical suffering, but he shows growth.
• Upachayas are 3, 6, 10 and 11. The word means accumulation. These are houses of growth, which is why malefics are wanted there.
• 9th lord Mercury — the controller of happiness from children — is in the 3rd house, a quadrant from the 9th, aspecting his own house. In the Saptamsa the 3rd matters because it is the 11th from the 5th: gains and gratification of desires relating to children. Planets in the 3rd can give childbirth.

Lagna of the First Child

• First child from the 5th, second from the 7th, third from the 9th — every third house, because the second child is the younger sibling of the first.
• Count forward if the lagna is odd, backward if it is even.
• Libra is odd. Count forward: the 5th is Aquarius. Its lords are Saturn and Rahu.
• Both are in Libra, in the lagna, together with Jupiter, the putra karaka. Saturn is exalted, so he dominates: when one of two co-lords is exalted and they are with an equal number of planets, he is the lord.
• 5th lord, co-lord and karaka all in lagna — a new auspicious beginning. Saturn dasha can now give the child.

Putra Sahama and Moon

• Putra Sahama is in Capricorn, the 11th house of the annual Rasi chart. Saturn owns it and is with the 5th lord Moon there.
• Moon is an important planet for children in a woman's chart, and here Moon is the 5th lord of the annual Rasi chart — the karyesha.

"If he is badly placed in the Saptamsa, he is likely to obstruct even if other factors are favorable, and childbirth is unlikely during the year."

• Moon is in the 11th of the corrected annual D-7. No obstruction.

Why Saturn Did Not Exchange

• Three planets together: Jupiter, Saturn, Rahu. Arrange by beneficence: Jupiter, Saturn, Rahu. First and last exchange, second and second-from-last, and so on.

"Because there are odd number of planets, the middle planet doesn't exchange with anybody. So Saturn will end up giving his own results. That is why the child was born in Saturn dasha, not in Jupiter dasha, Rahu dasha."

• Would Jupiter and Rahu exchange at all? A grey area, no thumb rule. It depends on their agendas.

Karaka = Project Manager, House Lord = Group Manager

• The chart is a company. Giving her a child is a project.
• The putra karaka is the project manager: in charge in the end, the one who goes to the directors for resources.
• The 5th house is the main group doing the project; the 5th lord is the group manager.
• If project manager and group manager do not get on, the project is messed up.
• Jupiter and Rahu are enemies, but here they are in one sign: they talk, and their agendas are compatible. Had Rahu been the stronger lord, Jupiter might have given the result. He is not — Saturn is exalted.

Sex of the Child Is Not Read from the Annual Chart

• A student reads a male child from the annual D-7. PVNR: you see it from the natal chart alone. The annual, monthly and daily charts of the birth could each say something different, and the sex does not change every year.
• What the annual chart does give: each year take the 5th (forward or backward by that year's lagna), find its lord, take the sign the lord is in as the child's lagna, and read what is happening to that child that year.

The First Child in the Natal Saptamsa

Child born in Jupiter dasha, Mars antardasha (Vimshottari).

Finding the Child's Lagna

• Natal D-7 lagna (4:32 PM) is Pisces, an even sign. Count backward: the 5th is Scorpio, which is the 9th house.
• Lords of Scorpio: Mars (in Taurus, alone) and Ketu (in Leo, with Jupiter). Ketu is stronger.
• Ketu is with Jupiter, who is the karaka and the lagna lord: lagna lord and 9th lord together, a raja yoga.
• So Leo is the child's lagna. Read anything about the child from there. Example: Mercury is in the 3rd from Leo, as 2nd lord of speech and karaka of communication — the child will be a good writer and communicator.

Boy or Girl

• Ketu is in Leo, an odd sign, and with Jupiter the significator: a boy.
• Had Mars been stronger: he is alone, with no influences, so see his sign. Taurus is even: a girl.
• The class guesses a boy. The student confirms it.

Dasha

• The lord giving the child is Ketu, in Leo with Jupiter. It could come in Ketu's or Jupiter's period.
• It came in Jupiter mahadasha. Mars, the secondary lord of the sign, gave it in his antardasha.

"So the two lords of the 9th house basically shared the result."

Nodes and Mars on the Child's Lagna

A student raises the manner of the birth, reading it from the 8th house. PVNR adds:

• If the nodes are associated with the child's lagna in the natal chart and in the annual chart, there is some intervention or tension around the birth — premature, caesarean, a threat at the beginning that is overcome.
• If Mars is associated with the child's lagna in both Rasi and D-7, be more confident. One is enough; both is stronger.

Where the Rectification Stands

• Natal D-7 lagna with 4:32 PM holds for about 3½ minutes backward and more than 11 minutes forward.
• No divisional chart landed on a border of 30–40 seconds in both directions, so the time is not finally rectified. The windows together leave about 5 minutes.
• The time cannot go back: 3 min 40 sec or so had to be added, 4 were added, and a minute less breaks the annual D-7 of the childbirth year. It can only be later.
• D-24 (next part) holds for 1 min 9 sec back and 3 min 12 sec forward.
• PVNR's conclusion: not off by more than half a minute backward or 3 minutes forward — and, since 4 minutes were already added, probably not more than 1 minute forward.

Changing a Recorded Time by Minutes

"When you see that you have to change the time by like 5 minutes in order to explain the known past, do not hesitate, but do not change based on just one event. After you change, if you look at several other events, if it makes sense, then be confident."

• 4 minutes is large for a 1981 birth; usually such times are right within a minute or a minute and a half.
• It still happens. Someone notices the clock late and subtracts a guess. Or the time is taken when the cord is cut and the child does not breathe for another four minutes — and breath may be the right definition.
