Graha Drishti — Planetary Aspects
The complete system of Graha Drishti (planetary sight/aspects): all planets aspect the 7th. Mars additionally aspects 4th and 8th; Jupiter aspects 5th and 9th; Saturn aspects 3rd and 10th. Why these special aspects exist — derived from each planet's nature. A first look at Rashi Drishti (sign-based aspects) and how it differs from Graha Drishti.

Graha Drishti (Planetary Aspects)
Graha Drishti = the desire of the planet. A planet aspects the houses it wants to influence. Whether it can actually influence them depends on Rashi Drishti and Argala (covered later).
Universal Aspect: 7th House
Every planet aspects the 7th house from itself. The 7th house = desire (midpoint of Kama Trikona). So from any planet, the 7th house shows that planet's desire.
- 7th from Jupiter = desire of intelligence
- 7th from Mars = desire of initiative/aggression
- 7th from Venus = desire of enjoyment
Special Aspects

Ketu: Same aspects as Rahu (5th, 9th, 2nd) per some scholars. Parasara did not explicitly mention Rahu/Ketu aspects — other classics do.
Jupiter vs. Rahu — The Eternal Opposition
Both Jupiter and Rahu aspect the 5th and 9th, but with opposite intentions:
- Jupiter (teacher of Gods) → establishes Dharma, proper abilities
- Rahu (Rakshasa) → establishes Adharma, misdirects abilities
- Rahu additionally aspects the 2nd house (resources) — more practical/materialistic than Jupiter, who trusts that good Dharma naturally attracts resources.
Graha Drishti vs. Rashi Drishti (Preview)

Graha Drishti shows what a planet wants to do. Rashi Drishti shows what it can do based on where it sits. A planet with Graha Drishti but no Rashi Drishti on a house has the desire but not the means. Rashi Drishti will be covered in the next lesson.
Colloquial Term: Vakra Drishti
"Vakra Drishti" = looking at something while going backward (retrograde). In the case of Rahu and Ketu, they are always going backward (always retrograde), so they always have Vakra Drishti. However, the direction of counting houses for aspects does not change — even though Rahu moves backward, the 2nd, 5th, and 9th houses are still counted in the normal forward direction.
