Sub-Divisional Charts (Dm × Dn)

The Idea

• If divisional charts lie in the same zodiac and each planet has a divisional longitude — from which the divisional Vimśottarī is already being found — then a further division can be taken inside a divisional chart. See where Mars is in D-24, and find his navāṁśa or daśāṁśa within that.
• Tradition has some of these: nava-navāṁśa, dvādaśāṁśa of dvādaśāṁśa, navāṁśa of dvādaśāṁśa, used for specific purposes. Any Dn of any Dm is new: "it is like research", "still work in progress".
• In the software: "sub-divisional chart for research". The first chart is the one taken as the rāśi chart, the second is the further division.

What Each One Means

"If you find further navāṁśa in it, it is like looking at the fortune corresponding to that area of life. Similarly, if you find triṁśāṁśa in that chart, it is corresponding to the evils and misfortune relating to that area of life."

• A student asks how to separate father and mother in the chart of the parents. Answer: there is no known way. That chart shows your life from the side of the parental environment; its navāṁśa and triṁśāṁśa show the fortune and the evils in that.

Do Not Use the Lagna — Use the Planets

• In this chart's D-24 × D-9 the lagna changes 2 seconds earlier and 24 seconds later. "It will be stupid to use this." Some day it may serve very precise rectification; not now.
• Planets hold: Jupiter changes sign about 12 hours earlier and 5 hours 50 minutes later; Mars 3 hours earlier and 2 hours 7 minutes later.
• The Moon changes about every 15 minutes here (30–40 minutes in D-10 × D-9, which is 2.5 times slower). Check how close to a border he is before trusting him. Any planet can sit on a border in some chart; check that.
• A student asks whether to use the Moon as the reference instead of lagna. Answer: no reference at all, and no houses of the sub-chart. Do not read exchanges or lordships in it either: that needs a standalone analysis "which we are not prepared to do".
• Two questions only:
  1. Are key planets of the Dm chart particularly strong or weak in the sub-chart — exalted, mūlatrikoṇa, own sign, debilitated?
  2. Which planets fall in which sign of the sub-chart, superimposed on the houses of the Dm chart — as navāṁśa positions are seen on the rāśi chart.
• Results come in the daśās of the Dm chart's own Vimśottarī, not the rāśi Vimśottarī.

The Student's D-24 × D-9

• Aries, the 9th of D-24, holds Mercury in the sub-chart: Mercurian blessings on the bachelor's education — fast.
• Saturn falls on the house of the master's: Saturnine blessings — slow, persistent. Not a curse, since in a navāṁśa every planet shows blessings.
• Mars, yogakāraka of D-24, is exalted in this navāṁśa. Already good for education; this makes him stronger.

The Student's D-24 × D-30

• These are the opposite of blessings.
• Mercury is in one sign with the Moon and Saturn. Saturn afflicts both. The Moon is manas and Mercury is buddhi.
• In the regular D-30 an affliction of Moon or Mercury by Saturn, Rāhu or Ketu shows depression and a clouded intellect. The Moon afflicted: unhappiness. Mercury afflicted: the thinking ability eclipsed (not judgment — judgment is Jupiter).
• This is not the regular D-30, so it is not depression as such. It is sad events in education, in the matching daśā of the D-24 Vimśottarī.
• It fits: Saturn daśā of the D-24 Vimśottarī has run since 2007, and he has been unhappy in education — he wanted something he could not do.

The Teacher's Own Charts

D-24 × D-10 — work relating to knowledge

• His D-24 lagna is Gemini. Moon and Jupiter are together in the 2nd, Cancer: one in own sign, one in exaltation. The Moon is the 2nd lord and Jupiter the 10th lord of D-24.
• The 2nd shows speech and astrology. "Some work related to astrology is possible."
• Saturn is in own sign on the 9th of D-24, so the sense of dharma in his work on knowledge is run by Saturn: old, ancient, rigid, traditional; sticking to the discipline. The Sun is there with him, so there is a struggle, but Saturn is the strong one.

D-20 × D-9

• Saturn stands out, in own sign Capricorn. In D-20 he is the 9th and 10th lord, the yogakāraka.
• Capricorn is the 9th of his D-20. So in religious pursuit Saturn's blessings go to dharma: patience, perseverance, hard work, sticking to tradition.

How Far It Is Tested

• "This is a powerful tool, except that I have not honestly refined it that much. I worked a little with it, I found some interesting results. These are the beginning."
• He had long wanted to treat divisional charts as rāśi charts, but "there was more noise than signal". With Sūrya Siddhānta positions he expects many of these techniques to start working.
• He has not yet checked transits against sub-divisional charts.
