11L in 7H: gains from wife's family/network ("whatever house 11L occupies = gains from that sphere; 7H = wife, relationships, business connections — even through wife's friends if it happened because of her, it is 7H"); liberal giver (from 12H = giving, 11L = 8L of 12H in 12H from 12H = Viparita Rajayoga for giving; "initially hesitant = 11L wants to gain, not give; but once overcome = big giver"); virtuous (from 9H, 11L = 3L in 11H from 9H = Upachaya in Upachaya = dharmic quality grows); full of desires (7H + 11H both Kama Trikonas linked = "amplifies kama strongly; good chance he also fulfills desires"); keeps wife happy (from 7H-lagna, 11L = 5L in lagna = "wife emotionally stable with good Purva Punya; 11L = friendship planet in house of interactions = dexterous handler of relationships; wife feels cared for"). 11L in 8H: troubled path to gains ("planet between gains-agenda and obstacles-placement; not smooth; breaks possible but works out if planet is strong"); long life (8H = longevity; "11L gives gains in whichever house it is; gains in longevity = excellent lifespan; from 8H-lagna, 4L in lagna = Kendra lord in lagna = confirmed"); wife may predecease (from 7H, 11L = 5L in 2nd from 7H = Markasthana for wife = "Purva Punya in Maraka place for wife"); windfall/lottery possible (11L in 8H = sudden large windfall; "one day can suddenly inherit or win big"); powerful friends (from 11H-lagna, 11L = lagna lord in 10H = "friends who do good work in society; highly respected"). 11L in 9H: very fortunate (gains in fortune = "very fortunate"); clever and skillful (from 3H = 9L in 7H = skills fortified; from 5H = 7L in 5H = Rajayoga for scholarship); truthful/dharma activist (from 9H-lagna, 11L = 3L in lagna = "takes active initiative in dharmic matters; will go to lengths to uphold dharma; not just dharmic but a dharma activist"); respected by kings (5L in 5H from 5H = "people love and follow him; strong fame"); money in circulation always ("dhanadhipaha = not huge bank balance but always has money to put to use; 10L in 8H from 2H = checkered accumulation pattern").

"The 11th lord in 9th makes the person a dharma activist — he doesn't just know dharma, he takes initiative to uphold it. From the 9th house as lagna, this planet is the 3rd lord in the lagna — the 3rd lord shows initiative and Kama. His Kama is dharma. And the money is always in circulation — dhanadhipaha means not a huge bank balance but he always has what he needs to put to work."

— P.V.R. Narasimha Rao

BPHS Chapter 24 — 11th Lord in Each House (Houses 7–12)

Core parsing methodology (applied throughout):

For each BPHS result, PVNR derives it by asking: "From house X (relevant to that result), how is the 11th lord placed?" The relative placement from the relevant house explains why each result arises.

— PVNR

11th Lord in 7th House

BPHS results:

  • Gains from wife's family / spouse's relatives
  • Liberal giver (udaarashtha)
  • Virtuous / good character (gunihi)
  • Full of desires (kamihi)
  • Well-managed by wife / keeps wife happy (bharya vashanugaha)

Why gains from wife's family:

  • 11th lord's agenda = gains; he occupies the 7th house (wife, relationships, business)
  • Whatever house the 11th lord occupies, he gives gains from that sphere
  • 7th = wife and all that comes through her (family, network, business connections)
  • Even wife's friends, wife's colleagues = if you gained through them, 7th house shows it
  • "You don't trace the specific sub-connection (3rd from 7th = wife's friend) — if it happened because of wife, it is still the 7th house"

Why liberal giver:

  • 12th house = giving; this planet is 8th from 12th (8th house of 12th house's lagna)
  • 8th lord of giving in 12th from 12th = Vipariita Rajyoga for giving
  • Initially hesitant (11th lord wants to gain, not give), but once overcome = big giver

Why virtuous (gunihi):

  • From 9th house of dharma: 11th lord in 7th = 3rd lord in 11th (taking 9th as lagna)
  • Upachaya lord in another upachaya = growth in dharmic quality
  • He is a dharmic person with a sense of right and wrong

Why full of desires (kamihi):

  • 7th and 11th are both Kama Trikonas
  • 11th lord (fulfillment of desires) in 7th (desires themselves) = link between two Kama Trikonas
  • Strongly amplifies kama; also has direct aspect on lagna
  • "Good chance he will also fulfill his desires"

Why keeps wife happy (bharya vashanugaha):

  • Literal = "goes into wife's control" — can mean commanded OR makes her happy
  • From 7th house as lagna: this planet = 5th lord in lagna
  • 5th lord in lagna from 7th = wife emotionally happy, stable, has good purva punya
  • 11th lord = friendship planet; in 7th = house of interaction = dexterous handler of people

Philosophical note on multiple wives:

"Dharma is very subtle and very difficult to judge. In Kali Yuga, one wife is the cultural dharma (desh-kala-patra). But having multiple relationships is not inherently adharmic if the intention is giving rather than self-gratification. Krishna had many wives. A great king reborn today may have many runas to fulfill with many people from prior lives. The judgment of adharma depends on attitude (giving vs taking), not the number."
