Tapasvi Yoga, Retrograde Planets, A4+A9 Together & AL in D24
Tapasvi Yoga: Venus + Saturn + Ketu in mutual trines (or conjunct) = genuine ascetic tendency; the person is motivated to undergo austerities as a spiritual practice. Retrograde planets deep review: a retrograde planet is not weak — it is intensely motivated by past-life impulse. When retrogrades are in specific combinations they can give unexpected extraordinary results. A4 (home/residence Pada) + A9 (bhagya/fortune Pada) together or linked: when your home IS your fortune — the place of residence is the source of luck. AL in D24 (Siddhamsa): the image you project in educational/learning environments.
"A retrograde planet is not weak — it is intensely motivated. It carries unfinished business from a past life and will ensure it completes that task in this life."
— P.V.R. Narasimha Rao
Graha Arudha (L-numbers) — Relationship Indicators
What Graha Arudha Shows
- Graha Arudha = Arudha of a specific planet (not of a house)
- Shows the relationship between the native and people represented by that planet/sign
- Specifically: how people of a certain Rasi (sign) are disposed toward you, and how you get along with them
Examples
-
Graha Arudha of Mars (in Aries) falls in 9th house:
- People with Aries lagna will be authoritative guides to the native
- They give clear-cut, commanding guidance: "Do this, do that" — like a military officer
- Mars = authoritative, commanding; 9th house = guidance and wisdom
-
Graha Arudha of Sun (in Leo) falls in 9th house:
- People with Leo lagna will be fatherly guides — warm, royal, protective
- Sun = father energy; 9th = guidance; Leo + Sun = fatherly authority
-
Graha Arudha of Jupiter in Aries in 9th house:
- Jupiter = wisdom, teaching; 9th = dharma; such people guide with wisdom and spirituality
- They would protect and guide like a guru
Important Limitation
- Graha Arudha is still a relatively unexplored area
- The teacher (substitute) acknowledged limited knowledge: "You can still make do without graha arudha for now"
- Recommended testing in various charts before relying on it heavily
D12 Chart Analysis — Mother and Father (Example: Mitnala's Chart)
How to Analyze Parents in D12
Step 1: Identify whose analysis you want (mother or father)
- Mother → use the 4th lord as reference point (take 4th lord's sign as lagna for mother)
- Father → use the 9th lord as reference point (take 9th lord's sign as lagna for father)
Why lord, not house?
- The house (4th/9th) shows the environment and circumstances
- The lord shows the person — their intelligence, drives, actions
- "Graha represents people; house represents situations. Analyze the person from the lord."
Step 2: Apply Lagna → Lord → Planets methodology for the parent's analysis
Mother's Analysis (from 4th lord = Saturn → Aquarius lagna)
Aquarius lagna for mother:
- Lagna lord in lagna = relatively healthy, self-reliant, some Mahapurusha quality
- Saturn (lagna lord) in Aquarius = Saturn in its own sign → steady, hardworking
- Ketu in lagna with Saturn → Tapasvi Yoga (Saturn + Ketu combination)
- Venus in Saturn's sign → Venus carries some Saturnian influence
Tapasvi Yoga (Saturn + Venus + Ketu):
- Named after Bhrigu Maharishi who hung upside down from a tree for penance
- Ketu = headless, upside down, reversed
- Saturn = the hard work, endurance, perseverance
- Venus = passion, enthusiasm to sustain the tapasya
- Result: Person works without caring about surroundings — through heat, cold, obstacle
- Very persistent, resilient, spiritually inclined through hardship
- Vairagya tendency (detachment from materialism)
- "These are not people who say 'I'll do my japa tomorrow' — they do it regardless"
5th house (intelligence/children) for Aquarius: Mars + Mercury + Jupiter aspect
- Mars + Mercury = sharp, assertive intellect
- Jupiter aspect = wisdom, guidance ability
- Result: Sharp, intelligent, wise woman even if uneducated; people come to her for guidance and advice
From D12 chart: Lagna lord (Venus) is:
- 12th from 4th lord Saturn = physical separation (son lives far from mother)
- 8th from 9th lord Mercury = another distance/hidden quality
- Important note: This does NOT mean bad relationship — it shows physical distance; "Your son is in India, your relationship is good but you miss each other"
Father's Analysis (from 9th lord = Mercury → Gemini lagna)
Gemini lagna for father:
- Mercury in own sign Gemini = extremely strong Mercury; lagna lord in lagna
- Mercury is retrograde = as strong as an exalted planet (Cheshtabala); will stand on its own
- Mars with Mercury = assertive, aggressive energy alongside analytical mind
- But Mercury retrograde prevails over Mars — mercurial qualities dominate
Analysis:
- Sharp, intelligent, analytical person (Mercury in Gemini, retrograde)
- Assertive but primarily cerebral rather than physically aggressive (Mercury prevails over Mars)
- Not a blind faith follower (Saturn in 9th = initially skeptical, then sincere once convinced)
- Rahu in 3rd + Sun in 6th → fights through obstacles; persistent in overcoming difficulties
- 10th lord in 4th house (Virgo) → teaching, doctoring, farming, learning environment
- Virgo 4th house → agricultural or service orientation
- Jupiter there → knowledgeable about the work; not just a laborer but an expert/educator
Feedback from student (Ramakrishna/Mitnala): Father is an education instructor for farmers — he teaches farmers. This perfectly matches:
- Mercury (intelligence, teaching) in own sign + retrograde
- 10th lord in 4th house (Virgo = farming) with Jupiter (teaching)
- Badakesha in 4th house → instability in home/fixed residence → father constantly traveling for work
A4 and A9 Together in Pisces (6th house from lagna)
- Both A4 (mother) and A9 (father) fall in Pisces, which is 6th from Libra lagna
- 6th house placement of Arudhas = not ideal; some turbulence, growth through difficulty
- Lord of Pisces (Jupiter) is in 12th from lagna = further distance/separation energy
- A4 + A9 in Pisces = both parents are Piscean in their manifestation:
- Pisces = sign of Maharishi, knowledge, humble wisdom
- Both parents are "givers" — mother gives advice, father teaches
- "The Piscean quality dominates: they are both knowledgeable, humble, guiding people"
- Closely linked destinies: What happens to one parent is felt by the other
Key Principles About Analysis Methodology
Step-by-Step Approach
- Never club multiple parameters at once — analyze one parameter, understand its effect, then add the next
- "Take dirty water through a series of filters — each filter changes the result; apply parameters at the right place"
- Premature conclusions from clustering multiple factors lead to confusion
- Make a clear statement, then check feedback, then refine
Lord vs. House Distinction
- Lord = the person (animate); House = the environment/situation (inanimate)
- To understand a person (mother, father, spouse), analyze from the lord
- To understand circumstances/events in their life, use the house and Arudha
- "9th lord shows what drives the father, his intelligence, his actions. A9 shows the results he experiences."
Retrograde Planet — Special Power
- Retrograde planet = as strong as an exalted planet (Cheshtabala = strength of effort)
- A retrograde planet "will not give up" — it keeps trying despite obstacles
- Mythological reference: In a Bhrigu text, sages debated a chart with Jupiter in 5th; Saturn's aspect made them predict no children. Parvati/Shakti said: "You are all wrong — this person will have a child because Jupiter is retrograde."
- Retrograde planets do not conform to the rules of direct planets; give them special respect
- They are "unpredictable" because they go against the cosmic flow — cheshta = the effort to overcome
Marana Karaka Sthana (MKS)
- Each planet has a specific house where it loses power most severely:
- Saturn in Aries (1st house) = MKS for Saturn
- Lagna lord in MKS = health challenges; the lagna lord cannot fully protect the native
- When lagna lord is in lagna BUT in MKS → positive and negative fight; the health factor is reduced
- Example: "Lagna lord in lagna gives good health. But if it's in MKS with respect to that lagna, the health is negatively affected."
Arudha Shows Results; Lord Shows Process
Core distinction repeated throughout lesson:
- All the discussion of mother's hardworking nature, father's teaching = from the lord's analysis
- How actually did that manifest? Was she successful? Did he have health problems? Did he prosper in career? → All this comes from the Arudha (A4, A9)
- "We did not say whether she was successful. We did not say he had health problems. All that comes from Arudha."
