D-10 (Dasamsha): Kerry's Career Events

Kerry's Dashamsha: Pisces lagna with the Sun in it; Moon and Jupiter in the 7th (Virgo); Mercury in the 2nd (Aries); Mars and Saturn in the 4th (Gemini); Rahu in the 6th (Leo); Venus in the 11th (Capricorn). Timed with Dwisaptati Sama Dasha.

Rahu Dasha — War

• Rahu is in the 6th → service, not business.
• Rahu gives shock or cheating. With jala tattva influence that is diplomacy; with fire it is the man who goes and bombs.
• Rahu is in Leo, a fiery sign, and has graha drishti on the 10th house, Sagittarius, another agni tattva sign.
• Mars, the planet of war, in Gemini also has graha drishti on Sagittarius.
• Kerry volunteered for military service in Rahu dasha and fought in Vietnam.
• A student objected that Rahu and Mars do not get along. PVNR: in this one matter they do — as Sun and Ketu, enemies otherwise, work together for the continuity of lineage.

Sun Dasha (from 1970) — Peace Activist, then Prosecutor

• Sun is the 6th lord → still service.
• Sun in lagna → a political career can begin.
• Sun in any trine from lagna makes a person idealistic (from the last class). The ideal follows the sign: Pisces is a water sign, a sign of peace → idealism about peace.
• He came back from Vietnam in April 1970, just after Sun dasha began, and began his public life as a peace activist.

Sun–Moon (1971):

• Moon is the 5th lord, in the 7th with lagna lord Jupiter.
• Any quadrant lord with a trine lord is a Raja Yoga. Parashara singles out lagna lord with 5th lord as a Maharaja Yoga.
• Moon gives recognition, fame, following. Moon is also the planet of peace, and he aspects the Sun.
• Kerry was called before the Senate — the first Vietnam veteran to testify there — and spoke against the war. It made him known.

Sun–Mars (1972):

• For political success judge the 10th house (career) and the 5th house (following).
• The 5th is Cancer. Mars is in Gemini, the 12th from it — the house of loss from the house of following.
• He ran for Congress in Massachusetts on an anti-war plank at the end of 1972 and lost badly. His political ambitions took a back seat.

Sun–Jupiter (about 1975):

• Jupiter is the planet of law. The Sun is in Jupiter's sign and Jupiter aspects him → government service as a lawyer.
• He joined the District Attorney's office as a prosecutor. PVNR believes it was 1975, possibly 1976.

Moon Dasha (from 1979) — Own Ventures, then Power

• Moon is in the 7th: the 2nd from the 6th, a maraka sthana for service → a break in service.
• The 7th is desires, business, one's own venture. Moon is the karaka of desires in the house of desires → the strong desires he always had come to the front.

Moon–Moon (1979):

• Moon with Jupiter → law business. In March or April 1979 he resigned from the District Attorney's office and started a law firm with another former prosecutor. He made a lot of money over the next couple of years.
• Moon by himself → food business (see below). In May 1979 he and a partner opened a muffin shop in Quincy Market, named after their mothers' maiden names. He kept his stake for 15 or 16 years.

Moon–Mercury (1982 primaries):

• Mercury is the 4th and 7th lord and the dispositor of Moon and Jupiter, but shows no great Raja Yoga by himself.
• Take the dasha lord as lagna: Mercury is in the 8th from Moon — tension, anxiety.
• In the Democratic primary he and Dukakis barely won.

Moon–Jupiter (November 1982):

• The Raja Yoga is made by Moon and Jupiter, so Moon dasha Jupiter antardasha should give its peak.
• Once it began it was a cakewalk. Dukakis became Governor and Kerry Lieutenant Governor of Massachusetts; they took office in January 1983. He had been a nobody and was suddenly Lieutenant Governor.

Moon–Venus (1983–84):

• From lagna Venus owns the 3rd and 8th. 3rd = a short break. 8th = a big change in career — a change of job or of the area you work in. The 8th lord need not mean something bad; it can simply be a change.
• Do not judge an antardasha lord from lagna alone. From Moon, the dasha lord, Venus owns the 2nd and 9th and sits in the 5th — power, recognition, following.
• He took leave from his post, campaigned, and won the Senate seat: from the executive wing to the legislative.

"Don't think that all Venus antardashas will be bad. In some dashas Venus antardasha will be good, in some dashas it will be bad."

What Moon dasha did: it set him in his political career. Because Moon and Jupiter also form Gajakesari Yoga, which gives lasting name, the Raja Yoga has gone on ever since. Lasting fame here does not mean a thousand years; it means the results of that dasha stay for the whole life, sometimes beyond it.

Mercury Dasha (running at the time of the class)

• Mercury is the 4th and 7th lord in the 2nd. By that alone: strong desires, ventures, a lot of money.
• But he is the dispositor of Moon and Jupiter — the controller of the Maharaja Yoga. He can give even more than Moon gave.
• At the time of the class Kerry was in Mercury dasha, Moon antardasha, running till January 2005.

Moon in the 7th — Kinds of Business

1. Nursing, taking care of people; a daycare.
2. Food — a hotel, a restaurant, supplying food or the things needed to cook it. The standard dictum of the classics for Moon in the 7th.

Why food: nursing and nurturing include feeding. The Moon is exalted in Taurus, the 2nd house of the natural zodiac. A student asked whether Venus, who owns Taurus, should get the credit. PVNR: Venus owns the house — giving wealth and food is his responsibility — but he is not motherly. It is the Moon who enjoys feeding. A mother's first worry is whether you are eating well.

Students guessed water-related work, inheritance, something artistic, philosophy. None of these is the Moon's business here; the artistic is Venus.

"Basic things like Jupiter in the 7th, law business or religious business, and Moon in the 7th, food business or nursing business — these are basic fundamentals which always work."

Check on the Rectified Time

• The Dashamsha lagna differs between the published 8:03 and the rectified 8:08.
• Homework: cast the chart for 8:03 and try to explain with Dwisaptati Sama Dasha when he was in government service, when he had his own practice, when he became Lieutenant Governor, when he went to the Senate. PVNR: it makes no sense at all.
• Three different birth times circulate — two give Scorpio lagna, one gives Leo. This one fits his life far better than the other two, but it is not 100% certain.
