Chartered Accountant Case Continued

A chart from earlier classes, taken up again. The native is a chartered accountant.

Chart and daśā

• Lagna 14°52′ Leo (as read out for 12:25), vargottama. So Śatābdikā daśā is used, reckoned from lagna.
• Daśāṁśa (D-10) lagna 29° Sagittarius.
• The teacher reads the Daśāṁśa by longitude: each house runs 30° from the lagna degree. Mercury at 20° Sagittarius is therefore behind the lagna, in the 12th. Jupiter at 29° Capricorn is in the 1st, Saturn at 4° Aries in the 4th, Mars at 29½° Cancer in the 7th. He corrects himself twice in class from the sign count (Saturn "not in the 5th, in the 4th"; Mars "not in the 8th, in the 7th"). Lordships are from Sagittarius.
• Mars daśā 1985–2005. Saturn daśā 2005–2035. Running at the time of class (about June 2010): Saturn–Saturn–Mercury, almost over. Jupiter pratyantara begins 9 July.
• The teacher's first daśā reading was wrong; a student's software disagreed. After he set the calculation options (Jagannatha ayanāṁśa, the author's recommended settings) both gave Saturn–Saturn–Mercury.
• On the site the cast lagna runs about 1′ ahead of the teacher's. The chart is therefore cast at 12:25:00, which keeps the D-10 lagna in Sagittarius. The site's D-10 puts Rāhu in Aquarius and Ketu in Leo; the class has them on the lagna axis, Rāhu in Capricorn with Jupiter and Ketu in Cancer with Mars. The nodes are within a few minutes of 15° in the rāśi chart, a D-10 border.

The situation

• He left his earlier work and joined a mining company around February 2010. He did not like the job and resigned on 15 May, after three months.
• He wants to start his own consulting firm for accounting services.
• An old friend who ran a consulting firm for 30 years has just offered to transfer that firm to his name.
• Questions: Should he take the friend's firm? Should he go alone or have partners?

Mars daśā against Saturn daśā (from the earlier class)

• Mars is the 5th lord in the 7th house. He is debilitated but has nīcabhaṅga. Mars daśā was good for the career.
• Saturn is the 2nd and 3rd lord, a functional malefic. The 3rd is good for initiative, ventures and own business, not for service, and it shows breaks in work.
• Saturn sits in the 4th house of sukha: lack of comfort, direction and peace in the career.
• Saturn is in the Ārūḍha Lagna: the status takes a beating. Saturn daśā is an average daśā.
• A student noted the move to a mining company fits Saturn.

Mercury pratyantara — why the setback

• Mercury is the 10th lord in the 12th house of the Daśāṁśa: loss and compromise in the career. Three months into the job he resigned.
• From the antardaśā lord Saturn taken as lagna, Mercury is the 6th lord: service, not business.
• From lagna Mercury is the 7th lord of business, but in the 12th.
• Not a pratyantara to start a business in.

Rāhu's transit over Daśāṁśa Mercury

• In this Daśāṁśa Rāhu is the 3rd lord of breaks and Ketu the 12th lord of loss. They sit on the lagna axis and afflict the lagna lord Jupiter. Not desirable planets here.
• Natal Mercury in the Daśāṁśa is at 20°41′ Sagittarius.
• Transit Rāhu at the time of class: 18°12′ Sagittarius. Around 15 May, when he resigned: 18°46′.
• The teacher's estimate for February, when he joined: on Mercury's longitude or within half a degree. He did not look up the date.
• Mercury is kāraka of the accountant's career and the 10th lord. Rāhu came onto him and the native miscalculated and joined the wrong company. With Rāhu still within a degree or two, he gave it up.

"Your Mahadasha lord, Pratyantardasha lord, Antardasha lord, those are important. If their natal positions in any divisional chart are being hammered by a bad planet or being blessed by a good planet in the transit, it will be either bad or good respectively. So you have to be mindful of the transits also, apart from the dashas."

The other side: Rāhu is the 3rd lord of initiative and Mercury the 7th lord of business. For business, as against service, their meeting is not bad. Under this same transit he went independent and the friend's offer came. Still, the teacher judges it a bad transit on Mercury overall and prefers that things be done in Jupiter's pratyantara.

Jupiter pratyantara

• Jupiter is the lagna lord in the 1st house. Debilitated, with nīcabhaṅga.
• From Saturn (4° Aries) he is the 9th lord in the 10th, at 29° Capricorn. A 9th–10th link is always good.
• Mercury's pratyantara is one of losses, compromises and missteps. Jupiter's will bring clarity.
• Advice: for another month take things easy and do nothing hasty. Act after 9 July.

Can the period give business?

The teacher checks aspects by percentage in the Daśāṁśa.

• He first says Jupiter aspects the 7th, then checks: Jupiter has no aspect on the 7th cusp. But Jupiter is the dispositor of the 7th lord Mercury.
• Jupiter on A7: 43%. On A3: 50%.
• Mars is lord of A3 and A7, kāraka for business, and in the 7th house. Jupiter's aspect on Mars: 99%.
• The pratyantara lord only assists. The daśā and antardaśā lord is Saturn. Saturn has a 100% aspect on the 7th house, and he is in Aries, the sign of A7 and A3.

"That is why business is unavoidable. He won't be serving in this dasha. He will be doing business."

Should he take the friend's firm?

A student proposed the method; the teacher had said the question "does not fit within our paradigm".

• Both the 7th and the 11th show friends. A11 = people you know well and are close to. A7 = people you deal with.
• A11 is the friend. The 12th from A11 is the friend giving something up.
• A11 is at 11½° Cancer, with a 70% aspect from Saturn. The 12th from it runs from 11½° Gemini to 11½° Cancer. Its cusp has a 100% aspect from Saturn and 80% from Jupiter. So in this period a friend can give something up.
• Is that good for the native? See A9 (fortune) and A5 (fruit of pūrva-puṇya). If they are joined to the 12th from A11, fortune comes to him through the friend's giving up.
• If A8 were there instead, especially a weak A8, it would be a setback: he would inherit something bad.
• A9 is at 29° Gemini, inside the 12th from A11.

"All Arudhas are tangible things. So having a tangible fortune at the loss of a friend, or at the compromise of a friend, or giving up of a friend, is a possibility."

• A9 is also on the 7th cusp (lagna 29° Sagittarius, so the 7th cusp is about 29° Gemini; the rectification could be off by a minute). The fortune is tied to business.
• On A9: Saturn 100%, Jupiter 51%.
• A student checked A6: it is in the 11th from A11, not in the 12th. It does not interfere.
• A5 is there too, with A9, near the 7th cusp, in the 12th from A11. "That is excellent."
• Mercury has a strong influence on A9 and on the 12th from A11, and Saturn a 100% aspect. That is why the offer came in Saturn–Saturn–Mercury.

Verdict: take what the friend is giving. It will bring fortune, not a setback, in the long run.

Should he have partners?

• The 7th house is dealing with people. A partnership with several owners is a tangible thing: A7.
• A7 has no link with A11, A9 or the 12th from A11. Jupiter's and Mercury's influence on A7 is small. A7 is not strong in this chart.
• A7 is at 10½° Aries. Saturn at 4° Aries is in the 12th from A7 by longitude.
• Saturn in the 1st or 2nd from an ārūḍha is bad for it. Saturn in the 12th from it is good. So Saturn gives rājayoga to A7, and partnerships are good in his antardaśā.
• Mercury at 20° Sagittarius has little to do with A7. Jupiter aspects its lord Mars closely.

Verdict:

• He can take the firm now.
• To formalize it with several owners — the friend, his wife, others — wait for Jupiter's pratyantara. Jupiter is better for A7 than Mercury. Formalize after 10 July.
• Having partners is fine.

How well will the business do?

• Ārūḍha Lagna is at 28° Pisces. Saturn at 4° Aries is close to its cusp, so Saturn is in the Ārūḍha Lagna. In this daśā he is seen as less successful than before.
• Mars, lord of the 5th from lagna, is in the 5th from Ārūḍha Lagna. In Mars daśā he looked like a fortunate man.

"The previous dasha that ran was actually much better, the current dasha is average. So do not expect great rocking business. It will do okay."

Houses from the Ātmakāraka in the Daśāṁśa

A student asked to apply the day's verses. The teacher does it in the Daśāṁśa, not the Navāṁśa, so these are the soul's instincts about career. Houses are taken by longitude from the Moon.

• Ātmakāraka: Moon, at 5° Libra in the Daśāṁśa.

• These are vāsanās. Whether the environment lets them bear fruit is another matter, so look from lagna too.
• Parāśara does not judge by which planet is Ātmakāraka. He judges by the sign, the planets with him and the planets aspecting him.
• Ātmakāraka in Libra: skilled in business, balanced, diplomatic, fair.
• The Daśāṁśa lagna is Sagittarius. When lagna and Ātmakāraka point different ways, he cannot follow his instincts; there is a clash and energy is wasted.

Amātyakāraka

• Amātyakāraka: Jupiter (21° in the rāśi chart, next after the Moon). In the Daśāṁśa he is at 29° Capricorn, in the 4th from the Moon.
• A quadrant from the Ātmakāraka, and Moon and Jupiter are friends. King and minister are on good terms, so go by the Amātyakāraka (Part 7).
• The flaw: Jupiter is debilitated and afflicted by Rāhu.
• Jupiter in the Daśāṁśa defines the sense of purpose in career.

6th from Amātyakāraka — his purpose

• By longitude, the 6th from Jupiter holds Mars and Ketu. Mercury is its lord.
• Mars is in the 7th from lagna and is the lord of A7: business, enterprise.

"His soul's sense of purpose is defined by having a good business, having a successful business."

• The spiritual side of the 6th from Amātyakāraka is left aside for this chart.

Remedy

Whom should he worship to clear the obstacles to that purpose? The candidates are Mercury (the lord) or Mars and Ketu (the occupants). The teacher picks Mars:

• Lord of A7, in the 7th from lagna.
• 5th lord of pūrva-puṇya.
• In the 10th from the Ātmakāraka.
• Closely aspected by Jupiter.
• Dispositor of Saturn, the daśā and antardaśā lord.

Which deity for Mars:

• Mars can be Hanuman, Subrahmaṇya and others.
• A debilitated planet suggests a female deity. Mars with Ketu is a fierce, unpredictable warrior: Chamunda or Bhairavi.
• The teacher sets the debility rule aside. Mars has nīcabhaṅga, and the sarpa signs are stronger:
  • Mars is under Rāhu–Ketu influence.
  • In the Daśāṁśa Mars is at 29½° Cancer: in Āśleṣā, whose deities are the Sarpas, and in gaṇḍānta.
  • Jupiter's aspect is near exact: 29°39′ against 29°27′. Jupiter is the brāhmaṇa, the knowledge of Brahman.
• Subrahmaṇya is the warrior who stays established in Brahman while he fights.

"Jupiter aspecting Mars, and Rahu-Ketu having association, Ashlesha being there, strongly suggests Subrahmanya to me — not the Kartikeya form or other forms, Skanda, but Subrahmanya."

Prescribed: Subrahmaṇya Aṣṭakam ("Vallīsanātha mama dehi karāvalambam") or any Subrahmaṇya mantra. Good for his career.
