Marana Karaka Sthana Complete Table & 1930 Financial Chart (Great Depression)
Marana Karaka Sthana (MKS) — house where each planet is most impotent: Sun=12H (king asked to give up ego), Moon=8H (happiness in suffering = impossible), Mars=7H (fighter in relationship), Mercury=7H (scholar in love), Jupiter=3H (peacemaker given weapons), Venus=6H (lover made celibate), Saturn=1H (disease-bringer asked for health), Rahu=9H (thug guarding a temple), Ketu=none (wherever he is, moksha is his purpose). Mercury exception: loves 3H, 4H, 6H, 8H — scholar loves argument, learning, sudden change. 1930 Kartika Shukla Pratipada (Financial NY) for Washington DC: 4 out of 8 planets in MKS, Sun+Moon+Ketu in 8H = luminaries eclipsed. Vimshottari variants for mundane: Kshema/Utpanna/Adhana — choose by most planets in Kendras from each seed. Sun=bringer of any yoga; Moon=sustainer — if both are weak, even the greatest Raj Yoga cannot function.
"Sun and Moon are the life force in any chart. Sun is the bringer of any yoga. Moon is the sustainer. If they are weak and eclipsed, even the greatest Raj Yoga will not function fully."

Marana Karaka Sthana — Complete Table
Marana Karaka Sthana (MKS) = the house where a planet is most impotent, uncomfortable, and gives bad results:
| Planet | MKS (Death-Inflicting House) | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Sun | 12th house | You tell the king (Sun) to give up ego, embrace moksha — he refuses, is very unhappy |
| Moon | 8th house | Moon = happiness; 8th = sudden problems. You tell Moon to be happy in suffering — impossible |
| Mars | 7th house | Mars = war, fight; 7th = love, marriage. "Make them happy in relationship" — Mars doesn't know how |
| Mercury | 7th house | Mercury = scholar, too analytical for love; 7th = relationship; he is uncomfortable |
| Jupiter | 3rd house | 3rd = boldness, weapons, parakrama; Jupiter = peace, wisdom. "Give them weapons" — Jupiter can't |
| Venus | 6th house | Venus = love, affection; 6th = celibacy, bachelorhood, fighting. "Make them a bachelor" — Venus refuses |
| Saturn | 1st house | 1st = health, vitality; Saturn = disease, suffering. "Give him good health" — Saturn doesn't know how |
| Rahu | 9th house | 9th = dharma, protection; Rahu = deception, manipulation. "Uphold dharma" — like asking a thug to guard a temple |
| Ketu | No MKS | Ketu only wants to give moksha. Wherever he is, that's fine with him. "Which house am I in? I don't care." |
Key exceptions:
- Mercury loves 4th, 6th, 8th houses: Scholar loves argument (6th), sudden changes/learning (8th), and home study (4th)
- Mercury exalted in Virgo = natural 6th sign → argument, analysis
- Mercury own sign Gemini = natural 3rd sign → communication
- "For Mercury, transiting the 6th and 8th from Moon gives very good results — unlike other benefics"
- Mercury in 3rd house: Good for him — communication is his domain
- Saturn in own sign in MKS = "mixed results" — will still give hard work but with some difficulty
Rahu's MKS explained:
- 9th house is protection/dharma
- Rahu is a thug asked to guard a temple
- "He will TRY, but he has to forget all his normal activities and practice this. That is actually good — he forgets deceit and focuses on dharma."
Ketu's lack of MKS:
- "In every house, whatever the results of that house are, Ketu detaches you from them and gives moksha."
- He doesn't fear any house; he finds his purpose everywhere
- "He is single-focused: moksha. That's it."
Maraka vs. Marana Karaka Sthana — Distinction
| Term | Definition | Applied to |
|---|---|---|
| Maraka Sthana | 2nd and 7th houses | Houses (can describe death circumstances) |
| Maraka (lord) | 2nd lord and 7th lord | Planets (those that can cause death) |
| Marana Karaka Sthana | House where a planet is most uncomfortable | Individual planets |
Why 2H and 7H are Maraka Sthanas:
- 3rd house = vitality (life force, prana)
- 8th house = longevity (length of life)
- 2nd house = 12th from 3rd = loss of vitality → death
- 7th house = 12th from 8th = loss of longevity → death
Death vs. Accident:
- Accident (vehicular) → see 6th and 8th houses — "accidents don't need loss of vitality"
- Death by accident → need the 6th/8th to link to 2nd/7th: link between disease/accident and death houses
1930 Financial New Year Chart — Great Depression
Data: October 21, 1930, 4:48:07 PM EST, Washington DC (Sun-Moon conjunction in Libra at 4°53') Purpose: This Kartika Shukla Pratipada chart shows financial conditions 1930-1931
Hora Chart (D2) Analysis
What to check for financial chart: Focus on Hora chart (D2) because it shows material/financial environment
Lagna (D2 Rasi):
- Saturn in Lagna = MKS for Saturn + Saturn = contraction, not expansion
- Lagna is weak with 4 planets in MKS
Planets in Marana Karaka Sthana:
- Saturn in 1st house = MKS for Saturn
- Mercury in 7th house = MKS for Mercury
- Rahu in 9th house = MKS for Rahu
- Moon in 8th house = MKS for Moon
- 4 out of 8 planets in MKS (Ketu has no MKS) = "a rare occurrence, terribly bad"
5th house: Very weak (5th house = investments, speculation, promotion in stock market context)
Sun and Moon — The Luminaries Rule:
— PVNR"Regardless of any chart, Sun and Moon are the life force. Sun is the bringer of any yoga; Moon is the sustainer. Without strong Sun and Moon, no yoga functions fully."
- Both Sun and Moon are in 8th house
- Ketu is with Sun and Moon → eclipsing both luminaries
- "Sun and Moon are not only beaten in the 8th house, they are being eclipsed by Ketu."
- "When king (Sun) and masses (Moon) are both suffering and eclipsed, even the greatest Raj Yoga cannot function."
Conclusion: This is the worst possible financial chart configuration — lagna weak, 4 planets in MKS, Sun+Moon+Ketu in 8th, 5th house weak. "Terrible, not just bad."
PVNR: "Luckily, 2006-2007 is just bad, not this terrible."
Vimshottari Variants for Mundane Charts
Problem with Standard Vimshottari in Mundane
- Standard Vimshottari = calibrated to 120-year paramayu
- For countries/towns: paramayu unknown
- Solution: Compress Vimshottari to 1 year for the duration of the Lunar New Year chart
Alternative Vimshottari Seed Stars
Instead of always starting from Moon's nakshatra, there are 4 variations:
| Variant | Start Nakshatra | When to Prefer |
|---|---|---|
| Standard (Janma Vimshottari) | Moon's nakshatra | Default |
| Kshema Vimshottari | 4th from Moon's nakshatra | When this becomes prominent |
| Utpanna Vimshottari | 5th from Moon's nakshatra | When this becomes prominent |
| Adhana Vimshottari | 8th from Moon's nakshatra | When this becomes prominent |
- In natal horoscopy: use variations only when that specific nakshatra is much stronger
- In mundane charts: "Feel free to use all of these." Check which is stronger.
How to Choose Which Vimshottari
- Count planets in Kendras from each seed nakshatra's lagna
- Choose the one with most planets in Kendras
- If tied: check if Jupiter is in a Kendra — auspicious sign for that variation
- If still tied: prefer Lagna Vimshottari over unusual alternatives
- If Moon and Lagna Vimshottari both show same strength: use Lagna Vimshottari
For conditional dashas:
- If 10th lord in 10th → use Chaturashiti Sama Dasha
- If lagna lord in 7th or 7th lord in lagna → use Saptavimshat Sama Dasha
- If lagna is Vargottama → use Shatabhdi Dasha
- Always prefer conditional dashas over standard Vimshottari when conditions apply
