Why this time

• The birth certificate had been challenged as fake. The teacher accepts the State of Hawaii's certificate and tests whether the chart makes sense. He had already used this time for a prediction on his website, months earlier, that Obama would come back.
• Known facts: President of the United States, law graduate from Harvard, community organizer, successful politician.

Dvadasamsa at 7:24:20 PM — rejected

• What is known of the parents: close to his mother; his father left very early, he met him only much later as a boy, and a stepfather was there only for a short time. He grew up without a father.
• At 7:24:20 PM the D-12 lagna is Libra with the 9th lord Mercury in it. That does not show a missing father. "So that is wrong."
• The D-12 lagna changes 8 minutes backwards or 35 seconds later. The teacher takes 7:25 PM, which gives Scorpio.

Dvadasamsa at 7:25 PM — Scorpio lagna

• The 9th house Cancer holds a debilitated Mars. He is the lagna lord but also the 6th lord.
• The 9th lord Moon is in the 10th house — the 2nd from the 9th, a māraka place. (The site's Moon is at 10°04' Taurus, just past the D-12 boundary at 10°00', so the site draws the D-12 Moon in Virgo, the 11th. In class it is in Leo.)
• The Sun, the 2nd lord counted from the 9th, is in the 8th from the 9th (Aquarius).
• Saturn aspects the 9th house by his 7th aspect from Capricorn. Counted from the 9th he is the 7th and 8th lord — a clear māraka.

"It doesn't necessarily mean father dies, but it shows a relationship dying. So some void there."

• Navāṁśa Vimśottarī: Sun–Saturn. Navāṁśa lagna is Leo.
• The Sun is the lagna lord in the 5th house, the house of love, giving rāja yoga there with the 9th lord Mars.
• Saturn is the 7th lord (and the 6th), in his own sign Capricorn. He is strong.
• Lagna lord's daśā with the 7th lord's antardaśā can give marriage.

Children, 1999 and 2001

• Two daughters, born 1999 and 2001. The teacher does not have the dates, so only the mahādaśā and the candidate antardaśās are checked.
• Saptāṁśa Vimśottarī: Jupiter daśā; Jupiter–Saturn and Jupiter–Mercury over those years.
• Saptāṁśa lagna is Sagittarius. Jupiter is the lagna lord in the 9th house. The lagna lord giving children makes sense.
• Saturn is the 2nd lord (family) and the 3rd lord (gain of children). But he is in the 8th house.

"It doesn't really add up... Maybe there is some error. We will leave that."

• Then, from the daśā lord Jupiter in Leo: Saturn is the 6th lord and Venus the 3rd lord, together in the 12th from Jupiter. The 3rd and 6th lords together in the 12th is a good combination. "I think this is better" — Jupiter–Saturn is the better candidate.
• The D-7 is left there. The teacher does not go deeper.

Speech

• Mercury, the 5th lord (and the 2nd), is in the 2nd house in his own sign Gemini.
• The 2nd house can be wealth in another chart. Here it is speech: the kāraka of speech in the house of speech in his own house.

"As far as career is concerned, his main strength is his oratory."

The 5th house

• Sun (4th lord), Saturn (9th and 10th lord, the yogakāraka) and Rāhu (co-lord of the 10th, Aquarius) are together in Virgo, the 5th house.
• 4th, 9th and 10th lords together give rāja yoga. The problem is the Sun–Saturn conflict: tension and political controversy.
• Within the Daśāṁśa the Sun is at 12°, Rāhu at 10°, Saturn at 20°. Sun and Rāhu are very close and Saturn is not far.
• Sun–Saturn–Rāhu tension involving the 10th lord is the chart of a political activist. Because the 5th house is strong he is also a powerful person: an activist, and the President.

Rahu dasa (Dasamsa Vimsottari)

• Rāhu, a 10th lord, occupies the 5th house of power with the yogakāraka Saturn, his friend, and the Sun, the kāraka of power. "This is the daśā that gave him political power." It came in Rāhu–Rāhu, as soon as the daśā began.
• Rāhu–Jupiter, starting about a year into the presidency and lasting nearly 2½ years. Jupiter sits in the 7th house, a māraka place. He is a terrible planet for this lagna and an enemy of the daśā lord. "Rāhu–Jupiter is a very troublesome antardaśā."
  • He passed the healthcare bill but could not run on it. It was unpopular, his numbers fell, the economy stayed bad, and the Republicans in the House and the Senate gave no cooperation.
  • The teacher adds that many great acts in American history were unpopular in their day; people may see the healthcare law differently twenty years on. He says plainly this is a possibility, not a prediction.
• Rāhu–Saturn, from the middle of 2011 to June 2014. Saturn is the yogakāraka. 9th lord and 10th lord together in the 5th house, and both 10th lords running together.
  • With Sun–Saturn and Sun–Rāhu there, political friction and machinations continue, as they did all through the Rāhu daśā. Even after re-election there may be tension for about a year and a half.
• The period at the election: Venus. Venus is the lagna lord in the 4th house, aspecting the 10th. "He is not really showing any serious problem." (Rāhu–Saturn runs to June 2014, so the Venus period in November 2012 is the pratyantardaśā inside it. The teacher just calls it the antardaśā.)
• Rāhu–Mercury, the last 2½ years of the second term. Mercury is the 5th lord in his own sign. Many achievements. A friendlier Congress after the 2014 elections is possible.

"If you look back at his career, Rāhu–Mercury will be the peak of his career."

• For him too, worship of Viṣṇu is the best fit.

The teacher's reading of the campaign

• By the economy and the employment numbers alone, any reasonable candidate should have beaten him.
• In 2010 the anger was against big government (the Tea Party). By 2012 much of it had turned against big business, and his opponent is seen as a representative of the rich.
• Romney passed a similar healthcare law himself, so he cannot use the bill as a wedge.
• "It is a great blessing for him that Mitt Romney is the presumptive opponent."

Obama — the 2012 Tithi Pravesa and the Election Call

• The year's Tithi Praveśa chart is drawn. The year lord is Jupiter.
• The Tithi Aṣṭottarī daśā running at the election is Mercury, from 20 September 2012.

Mercury in the annual chart

• Rāśi chart of the year (the physical level): Mercury is the 9th lord in the 10th house. A benefic in the 10th: feeling fortunate and happy with the work.
• Daśāṁśa of the year (effort directed at work, the professional environment): lagna is Scorpio. Mercury is the 8th and 11th lord, exalted in the 11th house, with the 9th lord Moon.
  • 9th and 11th lords together in the 11th show gain.
  • But he is also the 8th lord: sudden events, anxiety, tension. And he is with the Moon, the kāraka of the mind.

The sequence of periods

• Moon (running at the time of the class): 9th lord in the 11th with the 11th lord. A good daśā. His campaign is putting out one message after another and building a picture of Romney, who is not building a counter-picture and keeps making gaffes.
• Mars (next): lagna lord in the 10th house. Also good. He may keep doing well after the convention.
• Mercury (from 20 September, through the election): the 8th lord gives tension.

"Even though he is the 11th lord exalted in the 11th, he is also the 8th lord. When the 8th lord's period comes, he has to give some tension."

• About a month and a half before the election Obama will face a serious nuisance that makes him wonder whether he will be re-elected. Mercury is the kāraka of markets, so trouble relating to the markets is one possibility. "I can't tell exactly what."

Why he still wins

• In the year's Daśāṁśa the lagna lord Mars (in the 10th) and the 10th lord Sun (in the 4th) form a rāja yoga on the 10th-house axis.
• The 5th lord Jupiter aspects the lagna.
• Exalted Mercury is in the 11th with the 9th lord.
• At the election Mercury–Moon runs. The 9th lord Moon and the exalted 11th lord are together in the 11th and aspect the 5th house.

"This is not the year when he will lose the election... He will win the election, but the month and a half before the election will be torture for him."

• Saturn's period follows Mercury. It falls after the election and is not examined.

Obama — Rasi Chart, Saturn Dasa and the Maraka Question

A student raises the ordinary Vimśottarī of the rāśi chart (Capricorn lagna): Jupiter mahādaśā ends and Saturn begins just before the election. Is there a danger of something sudden, as with John F. Kennedy or Rajiv Gandhi?

• Jupiter is the 3rd and 12th lord in the lagna.
• Saturn is the lagna lord in the lagna. He gives Śaśa Mahāpuruṣa yoga.
• But Saturn is far behind the lagna degree (about 2° against a lagna near 25° Capricorn), "so it is almost as though he is in the 12th house". A lagna lord placed like a planet in the 12th: some withdrawal from life is possible in his daśā. The daśā is 19 years long, so it will happen at some point in it, not necessarily now.
• Saturn is not a māraka. No sudden event of that kind is shown.
• Jupiter, as 3rd and 12th lord with the lagna lord, is "a little bit" of a māraka at most. The teacher would not count him as one.
• Rāhu is a clear māraka in this chart. His daśā ran 1978–1996, and when the native is too young a māraka may do nothing.
• Mercury is in the 7th house with the 8th lord Sun: a māraka period. Ketu in the 2nd house: a māraka period.

"Saturn is clearly not a māraka period... After 2012, once the daśā has changed, he is safe."
