Why Navamsa is the Key Chart for Marriage

• Navamsa (D-9) is not just about marriage — it is the chart of dharma and inner existence
• Rasi chart = physical existence, outer circumstances
• Navamsa = inner existence, dharmic life, soul's quality
• "The fortune that you get in this life based on past life punya is in Navamsa"
• Marriage is ONE dimension of Navamsa — but the entire inner life is shown here

Implication: If Navamsa is troubled, the person is troubled internally regardless of how good Rasi chart looks. Navamsa is the "pillar on which existence stands."

Seeing the First Spouse

• 7th house of Navamsa = first spouse (or first significant committed relationship)
• Sign of 7th house = lagna of spouse (shows spouse's nature)
• Planets in 7th and 7th lord = quality of first relationship

Seeing the Second Spouse

• 8th house from the 7th = second spouse (8th from 7th = 2nd house of Navamsa)
• So in Navamsa, the 2nd house shows the second committed relationship
• Sign of 2nd house = lagna of second spouse; planets there = quality of second relationship

Upada Lagna (UL) — Rasi vs Navamsa

• UL in Rasi chart = physical relationship, tangible commitment
• UL in Navamsa = dharmic fulfillment of marriage; quality of the relationship as dharmic act
• When UL in Navamsa has benefics = the marriage is dharmic and fulfilling at the soul level
• When UL in Navamsa has malefics = the marriage lacks dharmic nourishment internally

When Does a Relationship Count Astrologically as a Marriage?

• 2+ years of a strong, committed relationship = counts astrologically as a marriage (a UL)
• UL = Arudha of 12th house = tangible manifestation of giving (commitment, sacrifice)
• It is NOT about the legal ceremony or tying of knot — it is about real commitment for 2+ years
• This matters for: seeing what marriage is "first" vs "second" and for children analysis

PVNR's experience: He has been in situations where all analysis based on UL seemed wrong. When he asked the person about relationships, they revealed a 2+ year affair in earlier years — that was the first UL he missed.

Love Marriage Indicators

In Rasi or Navamsa:

• Venus + A7 (Darapada) + 5th house linked = love marriage indicator
• 5H = emotions and future desires; if Venus is in 5H or aspects A7 and 5H, love marriage
• 5H = future (what we dream of); A7 = manifestation of the desire for partnership

5H and 9H — Past and Future

• 5th house = future, emotions, what you hope for and desire ahead
• 9th house = past life karma, purva punya (merit accumulated in past)
• 9th from UL = purva punya that enables/supports that particular marriage
• Rahu in 9H from UL = the marriage lacks purva punya backing; lacks dharmic social approval; may be opposed by family/society; "this marriage doesn't have the blessings of past life merit"

Graha Arudhas for Spouse Identity

• Beyond the UL, use Graha Arudhas (L1, L2) to see the actual person who is the spouse (see Part 12)

Graha Arudhas — The Deep Philosophy

This is one of the most philosophically rich sections in all of PVNR's teachings. It bridges the metaphysics of Vedanta with Jyotish technique.

Review: Houses vs Arudhas

• Houses = inanimate circumstances; the backdrop
• Arudhas (Bhava Arudhas) = tangible manifestation of those circumstances in Maya (illusion)
  • AL = how you appear in the world of appearances
  • A4 = tangible place of residence
  • A7 (Darapada) = tangible manifestation of the desire for a partner

What Planets Represent

• Planets (grahas) = animate beings; the life force behind events
• Planets move, planets think, planets have agendas — unlike houses which are static
• Each planet represents a "life force" or "intelligence" being applied to certain matters
• The 7th lord is not just "ruler of marriage" — it is the intelligence and life force that is being applied toward the matter of relationships

The Universal Intelligence (Narayana)

PVNR makes a Vedantic point here that connects Jyotish to philosophy:

• The intelligence within me, the intelligence within my wife, the intelligence within my teacher — they are all the same universal intelligence (Narayana)
• In the world of Maya, we see them as separate people. But in Satya (truth), there is only ONE intelligence
• Satya = the permanent reality (houses and house lords operate at this level)
• Maya = the world of appearances (arudhas operate at this level)
• "When you see the 7th lord, don't think it is only your intelligence. It is your wife's intelligence too. It is everybody's intelligence. It is the same Narayana."
• Each house lord = universal intelligence being applied to that house's domain through all people involved
• So "7th lord" = the one universal intelligence applied to relationships — it manifests through both you AND your spouse, because you are not separate at the level of Satya

Graha Arudhas — Definition

• Just as there are Bhava Arudhas (arudhas of houses), there are Graha Arudhas (arudhas of lords)
• Graha Arudha = the tangible manifestation of that lord's intelligence as a specific individual person in Maya
• If the house lord shows the universal intelligence applied to a domain, the graha arudha shows how that intelligence manifests as a particular person you can interact with

Notation in PVNR's software:

• A1, A2... = arudhas of houses (bhava arudhas)
• L1, L2... = arudhas of lords (graha arudhas)
• L5 = arudha of the lord of 5th house (not A5 which is arudha of 5th house itself)

Interpretation

• L1 (arudha of lagna lord) = how the native manifests as a separate, thinking, feeling individual in the context being analyzed
  • In D-9: how you manifest as an individual in your inner/dharmic/marital life
  • In D-10: how you manifest as an individual in professional life
• L2 (arudha of 2nd lord or 7th lord — clarify context) = how the relevant partner manifests as an individual
  • In D-9: how the spouse manifests as a separate person
  • The spouse is not just a house — they are a specific, thinking, feeling individual. L2 shows that.

For marriage analysis:

• See L1 (you as a person in marital life) and L2 (spouse as a person)
• Are the sign lords of L1 and L2 friendly, neutral, or inimical to each other?
• If lords of L1 and L2 signs are inimical → the marriage is fundamentally a strained relationship at the level of souls/personalities

Lakshmi Reddy — L1 and L2 in Navamsa

• L1 in Aquarius (lord = Saturn)
• L2 in Leo (lord = Sun)
• Sun and Saturn are worst enemies — they hate each other
• Sun = king; Saturn = servant/laborer
• "She is the poor laborer and he is the king — and they don't get along"
• This is why, at the deepest level, this marriage is a strained relationship
• Important: This has nothing to do with Cancer vs Gemini being in "vibhava" (adverse) avastha — that applies to everyone with those lagnas. The real cause of the strain is L1 and L2 being in enemy signs.

Graha Arudhas in Different Charts

• In D-9: L1 = how you manifest as individual in marital/dharmic life
• In D-10: L1 = how you manifest as individual in professional life
• AL (Arudha Lagna) = inanimate manifestation: how your circumstances appear; how lucky/unlucky you look
• L1 = animate manifestation: how you appear as a thinking, feeling person; how intelligent/pious you seem to others
• "Wherever thinking, feeling, intelligence is involved, it should be seen from graha arudhas, not from bhava arudhas"

Second Husband Analysis from Navamsa

Identifying the Second Husband's Lagna (Lakshmi Reddy's Chart)

• First committed relationship: 7th house of Navamsa = Sagittarius → that person's lagna
• Second committed relationship: 8th from 7H = 2nd house of Navamsa = Capricorn → UL for second marriage
• But second husband's lagna (for reading his personality): 8th from Sagittarius UL = Cancer
  • Cancer is the second husband's lagna to analyze his character

Reading the Second Husband from Cancer

Moon + Saturn in the 12th from Cancer (= Gemini) — but wait:

• The Navamsa has Moon and Saturn in Gemini lagna (that is Lakshmi Reddy's own Navamsa lagna)
• From Cancer as the second husband's lagna: Moon and Saturn are in the 12th house from Cancer
• Lagna lord Moon in 12th + Saturn there = very sensitive, prone to depression

PVNR's quick reads from lagna sign alone:

• Cancer lagna person: immediately conclude — very sensitive
• Sagittarius lagna person: righteous, principled
• Aries lagna person: very dynamic, enterprising
• These are first-level readings from the lagna sign itself

Moon + Saturn together: Classic combination for depression and suicidal tendencies

• Moon = mind; Saturn = sadness, compression, delay
• When together: the mind is weighed down by sadness
• If in Rasi lagna (not just Navamsa): refer the person to a psychiatrist during relevant dashas
• Here: Moon is lagna lord in 12H with Saturn (8L and 9L) = person is prone to depression, very sensitive

Mars in 2nd from Cancer (= Leo): Aggressive speaker; harsh or direct speech

What brought the second marriage:

• Venus is in Capricorn (2nd house of Navamsa / second UL) but Venus is totally combust
• Combust Venus could not bring the marriage
• The marriage was brought by Saturn and Rahu (lord of Capricorn = Saturn; Rahu in 2nd from UL)
• Rahu is in Aquarius (lord = Saturn) → when Rahu and its lord co-relate, take the lord (Saturn) as the stronger co-lord
• Therefore Saturn primarily brought this marriage
• Saturn = traditional, arranged marriage (not a love marriage)

Planets bringing traditional vs love marriage:

• Saturn, Ketu, Jupiter = traditional marriage; arranged by family; conventional
• Venus, Moon, Rahu = love marriage or unconventional relationship

Second husband's career (from Cancer lagna):

• 10th from Cancer = Aries
• Rahu in Cancer (his lagna) → Rahu's nature = mechanical/technical engineering
• Mars in Leo (2nd from Cancer) has some influence
• Student guess: mechanical engineer (Rahu + Mars influence) — PVNR confirms it is a reasonable deduction
• Importance of argala: if Sun had argala on 10th, it could show government administration; but Sun's placement doesn't have argala on 10th here

Lakshmi Reddy's Own Marital Life from Navamsa Lagna

Analyzing from Gemini (Navamsa Lagna)

Whether analyzing first or second marriage, her experience of marriage is always read from Navamsa lagna (Gemini):

Moon + Saturn in Navamsa lagna (Gemini):

• Moon = planet of mind; Saturn = planet of sadness
• Together in lagna = lot of sadness, lot of crying, unhappiness, potential depression
• Saturn is also the 8th lord (in addition to 9L) — showing 8H significations (hidden suffering, breaks)
• "In the marriage there will be breaking of dharma. Dharma cannot be maintained."
• Moon here is her Atmakaraka (soul's indicator) — which adds additional significance

Mercury (lagna lord) with Ketu (6th lord) in 5th:

• Lagna lord Mercury = hope, intelligence; 6th lord Ketu = disputes, fights, separation desire
• Together in 5th (house of emotions and feelings in marriage) = constant balancing of hope vs disgust
• 5th house should be the house of positive feelings in marriage; here it has LL + 6L = fights, quarrels
• Ketu is Rudra-swarupa (destructive form of Shiva) especially as 6th lord — he gives zero comfort

7th lord Jupiter in 8th house:

• 7th lord in 8th = relationship is strained; "7th lord in 8th shows relationship has some breaking quality"
• Especially connected to the first relationship being unable to come about
• Jupiter with Ketu = additional challenge for the 7th house matters

D-10 Career Analysis (for contrast):

• In D-10, she is strong — 9th lord in 10th house = very fortunate in career
• Moon in 3rd in D-10 = entertainment/creative aspect to career
• "In profession she is a very strong, lucky lady"
• "But in marriage, unfortunately she is not very lucky"
• This contrast between strong D-10 and troubled Navamsa is important: outer success, inner pain

Navamsa as the Pillar:

• "Navamsa is not just marriage — it is the chart of your dharma. The pillar on which your existence stands."
• "Based on past life punya, you get certain fortune. Based on that fortune, you get certain abilities. Based on those abilities, you have dharma to fulfill."
• All abilities, dharma, fortune come from Navamsa
• "Internally she is very troubled. This is the chart of inner existence."
• Even Rasi chart quality cannot override Navamsa: if Navamsa is troubled, the inner self is troubled

Graha Arudha Practical Application — L1 and L2

How to Read L1 and L2

In software (PVNR's Jagannatha Hora): view with graha arudhas to see L1, L2, L5, L10 (graha arudhas of those lords)

For Lakshmi Reddy in Navamsa:

• L1 (arudha of lagna lord Mercury) = Aquarius
• L2 (arudha of 7th lord Jupiter) = Leo
• Aquarius lord = Saturn; Leo lord = Sun
• Sun and Saturn are the greatest natural enemies in Jyotish
• "She is the poor laborer and he is the king — they don't get along"
• This is the REAL indicator of the strained marriage quality

Why NOT the Cancer-Gemini Vibhava logic: A student suggested the problem is because Cancer and Gemini are in "vibhava" relationship (adjacent signs, inimical). PVNR corrects: this applies to virtually everyone with these lagna combinations and is not specific. The L1-L2 analysis (enemy sign lords) is the real and specific indicator.

What Can Be Done? Remedies

First marriage (had it come about):

• UL in Gemini (first UL); 2nd lord = Moon; Moon in Shukla paksha (waxing) = Krishna (avatar)
• If she had fasted on Wednesdays and prayed to Krishna, the first marriage may have succeeded despite family opposition

Second marriage (current):

• Second UL = Capricorn; lord = Saturn; Rahu also in that house → Saturn primarily
• Capricorn = Sanyi sthana (house of Saturn), a sanyasthana
• Fasting on Saturdays and praying to Balaji (Venkateshwara) will protect the second marriage
• If full fast not possible: eat only fruits and milk on Saturdays
• At the end of Saturday: pray to Venkateshwara

For mental peace in marriage (strengthening Mercury + appeasing Ketu):

• Mercury → Vishnu; Ketu → Ganesha
• Pray to Ganesha and Vishnu (Lakshmi Narayana) on Fridays
• This brings comfort (Mercury as 4th lord of sukha) and reduces Ketu's destructive energy

PVNR's position on advising divorce:

• "As astrologers, it is not good on our part to advise divorce"
• He has done it only ONCE in his career, in an extreme case where the husband was not interested in the marriage at all and the wife was from a very pious family being completely tormented
• In all other cases: give remedies, suggest prayers, bring mental relief — but never recommend breaking the marriage

Upada Lagna — What It Actually Means

UL = Arudha of 12th house

Why 12th House?

• 12th house = giving, sacrifice, losing yourself for another
• When you genuinely commit to a relationship, you give yourself — that is 12th house
• The tangible manifestation of this giving/commitment = UL
• UL is not about the ceremony. It is about the COMMITMENT.

When Does UL Form?

• Any relationship with 2+ years of genuine, strong commitment = UL formed
• This is why PVNR asks about past relationships when UL analysis doesn't match
• "When I asked, I discovered she had a strong affair in '94 for 2 years — that was the first UL"
• The lesson: when in doubt about which relationship is first, always ask the person

UL in Rasi vs Navamsa

• Rasi UL: shows the physical, tangible relationship (the day-to-day, outer reality of the marriage)
• Navamsa UL: shows the dharmic, inner quality of the relationship (soul-level fulfillment)
• A person can have a legally married Rasi UL but a troubled Navamsa UL = legally committed but internally unfulfilling
