Druk Dasha Methodology — 9th-House Based, Progressed Lagna, Dasha Pravesh Chakra & Swami Sivananda: Pravrajya Yoga + Nirvikalpa Indicator
Druk Dasha (9th-house dasha, Jaimini): starts from 9th sign (God's light), groups of 3. "9th house traces how divine light illuminates different areas over time." Analysis method: (1) natal influences on dasha sign; (2) dasha sign as progressed lagna; (3) 5th from dasha sign = temporary lagna; (4) Dasha Pravesh Chakra (Tajika chart for dasha start year, read from dasha sign as lagna). Swami Sivananda (Cancer lagna, 1887; AK = Moon in Aries). Aries Druk Dasha (1923-1930): Moon (lagna lord) in Aries = self-transformation. Mercury aspects Aries = guru arrives. Progressed lagna = Leo (5th from Aries). 12th from Leo: Mars+Saturn+Rahu = extremely intense tapasya; Mars=agni/fierce effort; Saturn=Raja Yoga/pranayama; Rahu=going beyond form. 7th lord from Leo in 12th = renouncing worldly desires. Historical: 1924 renounced medical career in Malaysia; intense tapasya; Nirvikalpa Samadhi ~1927. Pravrajya Yoga in Dasha Pravesh Chakra (1923): 5 planets in Leo lagna including 12th lord = epochal renunciation event. Nirvikalpa Samadhi indicator (PVNR observation): Sun and/or Moon afflicted by Ketu on lagna axis in Dasha Pravesh Chakra = mind becoming no-mind; verified in Ramakrishna + Sivananda charts.
"In charts of people who experienced Nirvikalpa Samadhi, I have seen that Sun and/or Moon is afflicted by Ketu on the lagna axis in the Dasha Pravesh Chakra. The mind becomes no-mind when Moon-Sun are eclipsed by Ketu at the critical moment."

Druk Dasha — Methodology
What is Druk Dasha?
Druk = vision/light. Based on Jaimini's sutra: "Kujadi trikuta padakrameena drukdasha" — starting from the 9th (coded as "kuja" in Katapayadi), in groups of 3, in the sequence of God's light.
The 9th house = the storehouse of God's light (divine guidance). Druk Dasha traces how that light illuminates various houses, enabling you to "see" different areas of life.
Higher philosophical meaning:
— PVNR"9th house is not just dharma — it is God's light. The dasha traces how divine light reflects through your chart over time, illuminating different areas. The ultimate purpose of all divine light is to help you see your true self."
How to Analyze Druk Dasha
Step 1: Identify the current Druk Dasha sign.
Step 2: Look at the natal chart influences on that sign — what planets are there, what planets aspect it. These indicate what themes the dasha activates.
Step 3: Take the dasha sign as a temporary Lagna (progressed lagna) and read the natal chart from that reference point. What are the 9th house, 12th house, and 8th house like from this new lagna?
Step 4: Look at the Dasha Pravesh Chakra — cast the Tajika (annual chart) for the year the dasha began. Read that chart from the dasha sign as lagna. Where factors confirm the natal analysis, predictions are more confident.
— PVNR"Dasha pravesh chakra is like the birth chart of the dasha. It shows what is most activated or conditioned during this dasha period."
Chart Analysis — Swami Sivananda (Spirituality Example)
Chart: Male, September 8, 1887, 4:16 AM LMT (5h11m east of GMT), South India (77°40'E, 8°48'N)
Lagna: Cancer, Ashlesha 4th pada (28°14')
Atmakaraka: Moon (in Aries)
Druk Dasha sequence (from Pisces, 9th from Cancer):
- Pisces: 1887–1896
- Sagittarius: 1896–1905
- Virgo: 1905–1914
- Gemini: 1914–1923
- Aries: 1923–1930 ← transformation
Aries Dasha (1923–1930) — The Turning Point
Historical events: In 1924, Sivananda renounced his successful medical career in Malaysia. A spontaneous encounter with a swami led him to take diksha. He spent years in intense tapasya in a snake/scorpion-infested hut, also serving leprosy patients. Claims of Nirvikalpa Samadhi in ~1927.
Why Aries dasha?
- Natal chart: Moon (lagna lord Cancer) is in Aries → lagna lord in the dasha sign = self-transformation
- Mercury aspects Aries from Leo: Mercury = guru karaka → a guru arrives during this dasha
- Progressed lagna = Leo (5th from Aries = 5th from dasha sign)
- 12th from Leo: Contains Mars, Saturn, and Rahu → three malefics in the 12th from progressed lagna = extremely intense spiritual practice; renunciation of worldly matters
Planets in 12th from progressed lagna:
- Mars: Agni, intense effort, fierce tapasya
- Saturn: Vayu, Raja Yoga (pranayama) → Sivananda wrote a book on Raja Yoga
- Rahu: Also Vayu-associated; going beyond form; Rahu in 12th = going beyond boundaries
- Combined: Extremely ugra (fierce) sadhana, unlike the Kanchi Swamis who had Mercury/Jupiter/Sun → sattvic path
7th lord from Leo (Saturn/Rahu) in 12th from Leo: 7th lord in 12th = letting go of desires; renouncing relationships/spouse/worldly interactions
Pravrajya Yoga (Dasha Pravesh Chakra)
Dasha Pravesh Chakra of Aries dasha (=Tajika chart for 1923):
Leo lagna in dasha pravesh; 5 planets in Leo: Sun, Moon, Mars, Rahu, Venus
Pravrajya/Parivrajya Yoga: When the 10th lord is in a quadrant with 4 or more other planets → indicates a sannyasi, a renunciate.
Also interpreted as: 4+ planets in a quadrant showing epoch-making spiritual events.
Here: 5 planets in lagna (Leo) including 12th lord = extremely active lagna showing major events. The 12th lord included = moksha energy dominant.
Additionally present: 12th house from Leo in natal chart has Mars, Saturn, Rahu → confirms sanyasa.
PVNR's Key Observation on Nirvikalpa Samadhi
— PVNR"In charts of people who experienced Nirvikalpa Samadhi, I have seen that Sun AND/OR Moon is afflicted by Ketu on the lagna axis in the Dasha Pravesh Chakra."
In Sivananda's Aries dasha pravesh: This combination is present. Also verified in Ramakrishna Paramahamsa's chart (Totapuri giving diksha and Nirvikalpa experience).
Why Sun/Moon eclipsed by Ketu: Sun = soul, Moon = mind. Ketu = moksha karaka, dissolution. When the soul and mind come under Ketu's eclipse on the lagna axis during the dasha in which Nirvikalpa Samadhi happens, it indicates the "mind becoming no-mind" (Chitta vritti nirodha at the absolute level).
