Transits from Divisional-Chart Moons

The Question

After the murti exercise a student asks: can this be done for any planet in any divisional chart?

Rule

• Both the reference and the transit position can be taken in rasi or in a division.
• What 99% of Indian astrologers do: natal rasi Moon, transit positions in rasi.
• PVNR's advice: keep the transit positions in rasi; take the natal reference from various divisions.

"Take the transits in rasi chart, but the reference can be from various divisions."

Why

• Rasi is the concrete, physical chart. The divisions are abstract environments: dasamsa the professional environment, navamsa the marital one.
• The rasi positions of the transiting planets = what you are physically exposed to at that time. The planets are people: one comes and beats you, one says namaste, one gives you money.
• Moon is the mind — "your door to the world", the filter. Moon in rasi is the overall mind. Moon in D-10 is the mind as applied to work. Moon in D-9 is the mind in marriage. Moon in D-24 is the mind in learning.
• The same experience is filtered differently by each. A politician who has just won an election is exhausted after a month of campaigning — the transit from rasi Moon may be bad — and elated about his career — the transit from dasamsa Moon may be good.

Transit Positions in Divisions

• A student proposes taking the transit positions in the division too. PVNR: that gives a finer reading; he does not rule it out.
• But it changes fast. Jupiter stays a year in a rasi and about a month in a dasamsa. Mercury changes rasi in about 20 days and dasamsa every couple of days.
• The tradition exists. One whole system, attributed to Maharshi Bhrigu, reads transits in navamsa against the natal rasi and navamsa.
• For a beginner: stay with rasi transits. They give coarse readings, and they carry their own meaning — the physical experience.

Navamsa Example (the Student's Chart)

• Natal D-9: Moon in Libra with Ketu; Rahu in Aries.
• Until a few days before the class Rahu was transiting Aries and Ketu Libra — on the 7th and 1st from the D-9 Moon. The 1st and 7th are not good houses for the nodes.
• In theory this can show trouble in married life — "it may or may not have happened to you".
• If such a person comes with marital problems: it is the Rahu–Ketu illusion acting on the mind. Advise worship of Durga or Ganesha — Ganesha here, because Ketu is the one on the Moon.

Career Transit Example — D-10 Moon

The Year from the D-10 Moon

Natal D-10 Moon is in Libra. "As far as career is concerned, your rasi is Tula. Take Tula as lagna. From there see the transits."

• Rahu in Aries and Ketu in Libra until a few days before the class: on the 7th and 1st, afflicting the Moon.
• Saturn in Gemini, the 9th: an average transit.
• Jupiter in Virgo, the 12th: not good. The year before last he was in Leo, the 11th — a good transit.
• So for the last year or so it is not a great period for this person's career.

Ups and Downs Within the Year — the Offer of February 3, 2005

The student received a job offer on February 3, 2005. To find the month, use the faster planets — but first decide which planets matter for his career.

Natal D-10 (Leo lagna) — to see what the planets are, count from the D-10 lagna:

• Venus = 10th lord (and 3rd lord). An important planet.
• Mercury = 2nd and 11th lord. He is with Venus in the 5th house, the house of recognition and ability.
• Sun = lagna lord; important.
• Jupiter = 5th lord but also 8th lord — "not really".
• Mars = 4th and 9th lord, the yogakaraka; exalted in the natal D-10.
• PVNR takes Mars, Venus and Mercury as the important planets.

Transit of February 3, 2005, from the D-10 Moon in Libra:

• Mars in Sagittarius = 3rd. A very good house for Mars.
• Mercury and Venus in Capricorn = 4th. A good house for both: sukha — peace, comfort, happiness.
• The slow planets are not well placed that year, but in that month the three planets that matter for his career have excellent transits.

Reading:

• Mercury and Venus in the 4th give comfort: he will be more relaxed about his work than before. Something happens that makes him relaxed.
• Through what? Go back to the natal D-10. They sit in the 5th, so they give it through recognition. Venus is the 10th lord — good karma, a new job. Mercury is the 2nd lord — new resources.
• The student confirms it. PVNR: "This is not a case of confirmation. This is a case of justifying something that we already know."
• In the rasi chart too Mercury and Mars are in the 10th house, and they had good transits on that day.

Finding the Career Planets

• Look at the 10th house of the D-10, the 10th lord of the D-10, and the important planets of the D-10.
• When they transit well from the D-10 Moon, you feel good about your career.
• When they transit well from the D-10 Arudha Lagna, your image gets a boost — but the good and bad houses from AL are different.
• Until now the class used only Tithi Pravesha charts for timing. Correlate these transits with them.

What a Planet Wants to Give — Houses Owned and Occupied

A Student's Question

A planet placed in a house works for that house, but its agenda is the houses it owns. How do the two combine?

Answer

• Houses owned = the planet's agenda.
• House occupied = the resources at its command, the medium through which it fulfils the agenda.
• 5th lord in the 8th: the 8th is sudden change and anxiety — he is told to operate in that realm. His agenda is the 5th: recognition, following. So he gives a sudden good result: someone suddenly recognises your abilities and makes you an offer — a sudden raise, a sudden promotion.
• For transit work the two are fused. Together they are what the planet wants to give.

The Transit Says When and Adds a Flavour

• The planet gives its good results when well placed in transit, and its bad results when badly placed.
• The good transit may be in the 4th, the 5th, the 11th — any good house. The result is still the natal one.
• The transit house adds what the classics give for it. 4th: happiness. 11th: success, gains.
• 5th lord in the 8th transiting the 4th: a sudden promotion and much happiness from it. Transiting the 11th: a sudden promotion with gains, more money.

"Whatever good results they are capable of giving in the natal chart, they will give when they are well disposed in the transit chart."

Which Chart to Read the Planet From

• The transit says: Mars in the 4th gives discomfort; Venus, Jupiter or Mercury in the 4th give sukha.
• Sukha or discomfort about what? Go to the natal chart to see what that planet stands for — the natal D-10 for career, the rasi for the overall physical existence.

Learning Transit Example — D-24 Moon

The Chart

Same student. Natal D-24: lagna Pisces, Moon in Aries, Jupiter in Libra. "You have to take Aries as lagna when you judge the transits." PVNR looks only at the four slow planets, for the year as a whole.

Saturn

• Saturn in Gemini = 3rd from the D-24 Moon. Good.
• Physically the same Saturn is 8th from the rasi Moon in Scorpio — Ashtama Shani. As far as learning goes, his transit is good.
• What knowledge? Count from the D-24 lagna (Pisces): Saturn is the 11th and 12th lord.
• The 11th is the 4th from the 8th — learning of occult knowledge. An important house for learning astrology.
• The 12th in D-24 is giving, sharing with others.
• So Saturn matters for occult learning and for sharing it, and he is well placed. That side is taken care of.

The 12th House in D-24

"Knowledge you don't give away. It's not an object that you give to somebody and then it's gone. When you share, it increases, like light."

• Money given is money lost. Knowledge shared is still with you.
• In D-24 the 12th house is not loss. It is sharing.

Rahu

• Until a few days before the class Rahu was in Aries — on his D-24 Moon, "your janma rasi as far as Siddhamsa is concerned".
• Rahu is the veil of ignorance, the veil of asatya that keeps one from the truth. Over the Moon he causes confusion.
• That transit was bad for learning. Rahu has now moved back into Pisces and the confusion is removed. A classmate: you will have to study all the lessons again.
• The same Rahu on the D-10 Moon would mean confusion and inner turmoil at the workplace, not in learning.

Jupiter

• Jupiter moves to Libra on September 27: the 7th from the D-24 Moon, a good transit. He aspects the Moon sign.
• His natal D-24 Jupiter is also in Libra. Jupiter in D-24 is the wisdom applied to learning, and transits can be read from him too. Transit Jupiter has been in the 12th from him; he now comes onto him.
• For about a year from September 27 the blockages go, the wisdom blossoms and applies itself to knowledge.

"Until September 27th you will be asking a lot of questions, same questions again, but after September 27th you will start learning much better."

Remedy

For Jupiter in a sign of Venus the deity is Dakshinamurti. Praying to him around the time of the transit in September is auspicious.
