Rasi, D60 & D6 Health Analysis — Student Chart (Leo Lagna)

A student's Leo-lagna chart read live in class. The rasi chart is read planet by planet with the D-60 amsa each planet occupies: Saturn in lagna in Sarpa, Rahu in the 8th in Ghora, the 10th lord Venus in Kshitisha, lagna lord Sun in Deva, 12th lord Moon in Amrita, and a dharma-karmadhipati yoga in the 10th through the Mercury–Venus parivartana. For his health PVNR starts Vimshottari from lagna, finds Rahu dasha running with Rahu in A6, and goes to D-6: Rahu, Ketu and the Sun together in the 11th, the Hara sthana. Saturn and Mercury antardashas involve the badhaka sthana of D-6, Ketu gives no relief, and the D-6 lagna lord Venus, with argala on the afflicting planets, ends the trouble. Body parts are taken from the natural zodiac; the remedy is Aditya Hridayam.

Maraka Houses, Killer Planets & Longevity

The 3rd and 8th are the houses of longevity. The 12th from each, the 2nd and 7th, are the loss of longevity: the killer houses. The lord of a killer house in a house of longevity, or the reverse (7th lord in the 8th, 8th lord in the 7th), is a problem. In Sanjay Gandhi's chart Moon is the 7th lord in the 8th and the strongest maraka: the 2nd is empty and Saturn in the 7th cannot kill, being the lagna lord. He died in June 1980, in Moon dasha.

D16 Shodasamsa — Vehicles & Accidents, D6 Shashthamsa — Health

D-16 shows happiness from vehicles and accidents with them: the 6th and 8th are the accident houses, the 4th is the vehicle, and any link between the 6th and 8th raises the chance of an accident — it is not read as a Vipareeta Raja Yoga here. Three accidents of one native (1989, 1999, 2004) are timed from the natal D-16 by counting from the mahadaśā lord, and from the D-16 of the annual charts. Jupiter with Rahu in one house is Manushya Hatya and wrecks that house, above all in an annual chart. D-6 is read with the Rasi for health: a herniated disc in 2004 is traced to a Rahu mahadaśā with Rahu in his own sign in the 8th of D-6, and the 2004 annual chart is read daśā by daśā to say when treatment will go wrong and when relief comes.

Conditional Dashas for Death — Dwisaptati Sama Dasha & Ethics

She died in Vimshottari Mercury–Rahu, and neither planet is a maraka: by Parashara the houses of death are the 2nd and 7th, which point to Mars, Jupiter and Moon. Roundabout chains of dispositors can justify any dasha after the fact and predict nothing. A conditional dasha is read exactly like Vimshottari once its condition is met: her 7th lord Mars is in lagna, so Dwisaptati Sama dasha (72 years) applies, and it gives Jupiter–Moon, the two planets in her 7th. The annual Tithi Pravesha chart then fixes the time to within hours: its Venus dasha, a maraka of that chart, began three days before her death. The class closes on how to speak about death: never say "you will die"; say the period is critical and prescribe Mrityunjaya mantra.

D12/D9 Relations in Divisional Charts & D6 Three-Level Disease

Which starting point to use for a relative: in D-7 and D-3 take the lord (pada) of the house for a particular child or sibling; in D-12 and D-9 take the house itself for mother, father and spouse. Then disease. The 6th and 8th of the Rasi chart show what a person suffers from; the Shashtamsa (D-6) shows the root — which body tissue is weak. In Subbalakshmi's D-6 the badhaka lord Venus sits in the 6th and the 6th lord Jupiter aspects it: Jupiter is fat and sweetness, and she had diabetes. Each planet builds one tissue — Sun bones, Moon blood, Mars nerve marrow, Mercury skin, Jupiter fat, Venus reproductive tissue, Saturn muscle — and Rahu and Ketu deplete whatever they afflict. The teacher reads his own D-6 as the example.

D30 Trimshamsa — Subconscious Disease, D7 Children & Jupiter's Signs

Disease is a three-step process: D-30 shows the subconscious root, D-6 the weak tissue, the Rasi chart what is suffered. D-30 works on the subconscious plane and shows the Shadripus — kama, krodha, lobha, moha, mada, matsarya — each defined as the teacher defines it; mada is fanaticism, not alcohol. Then her Saptamsa (D-7): Venus, Mercury and Saturn all in trines deny children, one or two only make it difficult. The 5th lord of the Rasi chart is judged in D-7, and where a sign has two lords the one sitting in it gives way to the other — so Rahu, in the 6th, rules her Aquarius. Jupiter in the 5th of D-7 would bless, but as 6th lord of the Rasi chart he owns the 2nd from the 5th and denies. The 3rd house from the Arudha Lagna of D-60 shows the death in the past life: the sign gives the place, and the planets in it or having rasi drishti on it give the manner — Mars weapons and blood, Saturn a long illness, Sun the king's order or fire, exalted Moon drowning, Ketu a mistake. That death leaves a phobia in this life, which is the one thing about a past life that can be verified. The six Shashtiamsa names met in the class — Indu, Mrityu, Davagni, Bhrashta, Dandayudha, Kulaghna — say what kind of karma a planet carries, and the amsa is blended with the planet's place in the chart. In Dasavarga Vimsopaka Bala the Shashtiamsa is weighted above Rasi and Navamsa together.

D6 Health, D16 Vehicles & D30 Trimshamsa — Three Variations, Five Tattvas + Body Part Rules

Three divisional charts for trouble to the body, read in the annual chart of the puzzle year. D-6 (Shashthamsa) shows ill health, accidents and fights; its bad houses are the 6th and 8th, and Viparita yogas do not turn good there — the 8th lord in the 8th is bad. D-16 (Shodasamsa) shows what happens to your own vehicle; another vehicle hitting you does not show in it, and PVNR sets his own 1996 accident beside it. D-30 (Trimshamsa) comes in three variations — Parashara’s for vulnerabilities, Parivritti for evils being done now, Shashtyamsa-like for suffering due from past evils. In Parashara’s D-30 no planet falls in Cancer or Leo, Rahu and Ketu are the key, and the sign ruler gives the tattva: Mercury earth and bones, Venus water and blood, Mars fire and digestion, Saturn air and breathing, Jupiter Akasha, the worst. Body part rule: for the 8th lord take the sign he occupies in the natural zodiac, for the 6th lord the house he occupies from lagna.

Puzzle Answer: Jan 14 1980 Accident; Shoola Dasha (9-yr/sign); Sthira Karakas; D-12 Relative Events

The answer: a vehicular accident on January 14, 1980 — another vehicle hit him. The natal Vimshottari, Venus–Jupiter, showed it far more strongly than the annual chart. Jupiter is the 6th lord in Gandanta; Venus is the 8th lord in the 3rd from Arudha Lagna, the place of death-like experiences. Jupiter is also the Atmakaraka, and in an Atmakaraka’s dasha or antardasha death is unlikely: he gives a life-changing accident, not the end. Shoola Dasha is then introduced: start from the stronger of lagna and the 7th, 9 years a sign; danger when the sign is a trine or the 3rd from Arudha Lagna and is aspected by the 6th lord, 8th lord, badhakesha, marakas or a Gandanta planet. For a relative, start from that relative’s house, use A9 in place of AL, and watch the sign of the sthira karaka (father: stronger of Sun and Venus). The same accident is then read from the son’s chart, in Pitru Shoola Dasha and in D-12 from the 9th house and from L9. The class ends with the father’s career from D-10.

Example Chart — Sickness Analysis & Functional Malefic Rules (Parashara)

A young man is laid up with body pains for a day, and the daily Tithi Pravesha chart is read for it. The Hora lord Moon, ruler of the day, does not explain the sickness. Physical vitality is Agni, and Agni is the Vara of the panchanga, so the weekday lord is the planet to read: Jupiter, 3rd and 6th lord in the 12th with the neutral 2nd lord Ketu — no Vipareeta Raja Yoga — and in D6 the 6th lord in a crowded 8th house with the nodes. In D6 Vipareeta Raja Yoga does not apply at all. Example Chart — topher Reeve Horse Accident — Animal Karakas, Matrsulya Shapa & Rasi vs. Graha Drishti

Graha dṛṣṭi is a planet's desire and may or may not be fulfilled; rāśi dṛṣṭi is permanent access from where the planet sits, and is the more important. A maraka with both is the one that kills. Parashara and Jaimini are one astrology, not two systems. In Christopher Reeve's chart (Cancer lagna) the two marakas, 2nd lord Sun and 7th lord Saturn, sit with Mercury in Virgo, the 3rd house and the 7th from Arudha Lagna. Rahu's 9th aspect makes three malefics on Mercury: the maternal uncle's curse. In D-6 Mercury is the 7th lord with 6th lord Sun and A6; in D-30 he is the 8th lord in the 11th. The riding accident came in Sun mahadasha: Sun, lord of A6, gives his own results while Mercury and Saturn exchange theirs. Animals belong to planets — Moon humans, Sun birds, Saturn dogs, Jupiter elephants, Rahu tigers and boars, Ketu fish, Mercury horses — and a person should keep away from the animal of his maraka.

Alcoholism Chart Analysis — Moon in Evil Houses, Chart Rectification & D11 for Weaknesses

A chart posted by the native's child: the father an alcoholic, worse after 1989. Saturn causes alcoholism, but the Moon must be afflicted — tied to the 6th or 8th house — and the 5th house of judgment must be hit. With the given Leo lagna the Moon sits in the 5th under Jupiter’s rāśi dṛṣṭi and nothing fits, so the teacher moves the birth about 26 minutes back to Cancer lagna: Moon as lagna lord in the 6th, Rahu and Saturn in the 5th, 2nd lord Sun in the 8th, Saturn in the 6th and Ātmakāraka Rahu in the 11th of the Rudrāṁśa (D-11). Mars daśā from 1989 and Rahu daśā from 1996 match the life. D30 Subconscious Psychology, D6 Physical Disease & Mental Illness Analysis

A woman's mind becomes unstable two months after her second child is born, just as Moon daśā begins. The class reads the Rashi first: debilitated lagna lord Mars with bādhakeśa Saturn in the 4th, Moon in lagna with Ketu and Jupiter, and a waning Moon who, as a natural malefic owning a quadrant, is functionally neutral. D30 is the chart of subconscious weakness: its five pairs of signs stand for the five tattvas, and Moon in a Saturn sign means air — a wandering mind; in a Mars sign, anger; in a Mercury sign, attachment. D6 shows the physical onset of disease: Moon as 12th lord exalted with the nodes in the 12th gives hospitalisation, but a long illness needs the 6th and 8th houses, which Moon barely touches. The coming antardaśās of Moon daśā are judged in D6, each lord taken from the D6 lagna and again from the daśā lord. Mars is yogakāraka and bādhakeśa for the Leo lagna of D6; he sits with lagna lord Sun in the 5th and gives Sun's results — recovery through past good karma — but both are in the 8th from Moon, and the bhoga falls in the 12th, so the recovery is partial. In Rahu antardaśā the 12th lord's daśā meets a planet in the 12th, and Rahu, a bādhakeśa, aspects Moon in the Rashi: the trouble may linger. Jupiter antardaśā in 2008 is excellent. Last comes the Navamsa: it shows pūrva puṇya, the protection that decides whether an affliction in Rashi or D30 brings a person down; here Moon, its 9th lord, is in the 8th. The recording ends there. Remedies — Mantra Correction, Deity Choice & Gemstone Rules (Cat’s Eye vs Pearl) for Disease

The remedies proposed for the mental-illness chart, and the teacher's corrections. A Hanuman mantra must say Hanumate, not Hanumataye; names of a deity may be varied in a mantra, but bījākṣaras should not be added on one's own. Hanuman strengthens the debilitated lagna lord Mars, and Jupiter, 9th lord from lagna and Moon, protects the mind. The class lists the stones of the nine planets, rejects cat's eye — the lord of Moon's nakshatra is important but not therefore good, and here Ketu is the 8th lord — and accepts pearl, because the waning Moon is functionally neutral, takes part in several yogas and is weakened by Ketu. The recording ends before the remedies are finished; the rest is from the published class notes. A stone on the right hand strengthens the planet and on the left weakens it. Fasting increases vāta and is no remedy for depression. The ring prescribed is yellow sapphire with pearls, first worn on a Tuesday. The worship is Dakshinamurthy for Jupiter and, because Moon exchanges signs with Mars, Durga — the Chandi Path, of whose three parts the sāttvik Mahalakshmi part suits Moon and Jupiter.

D30 Remedies, Kali Forms & Exchange of Results for Many Planets in One Sign

Moon with Saturn, Rahu or Ketu in D30 shows where the mind is vulnerable, and in D6 and D30 there is no Viparīta Rāja Yoga: the 6th, 8th and 12th lords only give suffering. A debilitated planet calls for a female deity and an exalted one for a male deity, so a debilitated Moon with Saturn points to Kali — worshipped as Mother Kalikamba at any time for relief, never with the Mahavidya mantras, which are for Self-knowledge alone. Sun with Rahu in lagna gives a weak constitution early in life; Jupiter rescues Sun, so Dakshinamurti is the remedy, and the Vāreśa is the protector unless he is himself wrecked. The example chart has five planets in Leo: rank them by beneficence and the first and last, second and second-last exchange results in the nakṣatra daśā, while the middle one keeps his own.

Multiple Spouses & Children in D7/D9 — Sequential vs Simultaneous, Abortion Indicators

How to find the second and third spouse, and the children of each, in Navamsha and Saptamsha. A relationship that ended is followed by the 8th from its sign (7th, 2nd, 9th, 4th); one added while the earlier continues is the 6th (7th, 12th, 5th) — a rule PVNR gives as untested tradition. The first child of any relationship is the 11th from the sign showing it, counted forward if that sign is odd and backward if even, and every conception counts, born or not. D10 Career Rectification, A5 Recognition Analysis & Vision Problems from Rahu

A Pisces-lagna chart of a software engineer who began in hardware and feels unrecognised at work. Vision is the 10th house (9th from the 2nd): Rahu at 18°29' Aries throws his 9th aspect on Sagittarius within 4 minutes of the lagna degree, far closer than Saturn's aspect from the lagna, and Rahu in the 2nd puts the trouble in the right eye. The D10 lagna sits on the Aries–Taurus border; Taurus is chosen because Mars and Rahu in the 6th aspect the lagna (the hardware start) and because A5 then falls in Scorpio with Saturn and the debilitated Moon — some recognition, hard-earned, that never satisfies. The 6th is stronger than the 7th and the 7th lord Mars sits in the 6th, so service, not business. The remedy is Kali through the 7th adhyāya of the Chaṇḍīpāṭh, for Moon and Saturn in a Mars sign. Had the pair been in Pisces, a sattvic form — Sarasvatī, Tārā or Tāraṇa Kālī — would fit. The 2006 Tithi Praveśa chart is then read period by period: Mercury in a duryoga (politics at work), Saturn giving Simhasana yoga (relief), Jupiter in the 8th from AL in D10 (a sudden rise).

Planetary Dhatu (Tissue) Table, Body-Part Disability Rules & D24 MBA Timing

A leg deformity from birth, read in the Rasi chart because a handicap is at the physical level. The dhatus of the planets: Sun bones, Moon blood, Mars nerves (not muscle), Mercury rasa dhatu, Jupiter fat, Venus sexual fluids, Saturn muscle; Rahu and Ketu deplete all tissues. A thumb rule for the body part: the 8th lord by the sign he occupies in the natural zodiac, the 6th lord by the house he occupies from lagna — it does not find the leg here. What does: Rahu, co-lord of the 10th (knee and calf) and Gnati Karaka, in the 6th with a debilitated Sun and Mars; the tissue is bone. The second half fixes the D24 lagna as Leo, not Virgo, from the engineering degree, shows why Sagittarius Narayana Dasha ended that degree, and times a master's: an MBA in engineering management, in the next two and a half years or not at all.

Chara Karaka Scheme (8 vs 7), Sthira Karakas & 12 Navamsha Sign Trouble Areas

The eight Chara Karakas are Atma, Amatya, Bhratri, Matri, Pitri, Putra, Gnati and Dara. Following Pt. Sanjay Rath, use eight for living beings that reproduce, and seven — Matri and Putra fused — for inanimate and mundane charts such as a rocket launch, an organisation or an election. The Sthira Karakas are the fixed significators of relatives (Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus; Sun and Venus for father, Moon and Mars for mother), used for Shoola Dasa, health and longevity: take the stronger of a pair, or the weaker only if it is badly afflicted. Jaimini then lists an area of trouble for each of the 12 Navamsa signs — Gemini and Virgo skin and weight, Scorpio shortage of mother's milk, Sagittarius a fall from height or position, Capricorn spirits and psychic disorders. One way to apply it: take the Badhaka lord or the most afflicted planet in the rasi chart and read the Navamsa sign it occupies. The class tries this on a child with a skin problem, where Mercury must be afflicted, and the teacher admits the chart is not clear-cut.

Moon Profession/Health Combinations, D24 Education Field Guidance (BCS vs Biotech) & Career Indicators

Jaimini’s Moon combinations: Moon in svāṁśa aspected by Venus gives work with liquids and chemicals (chemical engineering); aspected by Mercury, a doctor; Moon in the 4th from svāṁśa aspected by Venus, Mars or Ketu gives leucoderma, white leprosy or bluish leprosy — the teacher admits the logic of the last group is not yet clear to him. The example is a boy choosing between Computer Science and biotechnology after his 12th. The Navāṁśa is confirmed first: Taurus rising, with exalted vargottama Mars in a trine, Jupiter and Mercury aspecting the lagna, and Venus in the 10th giving the effect of Ketu in lagna by the weekday-order rule; Aries rising, two minutes earlier, is tested and dropped. In D-24 three lagnas lie within minutes — Gemini with every malefic in a kendra (Sarpa Yoga), Cancer with the lagna lord in the 8th, Taurus with the 8th lord in lagna — and the class does not settle among them. Mars and Mercury favour computers; the Moon–Jupiter parivartana in Navāṁśa and Rahu with the Moon in D-24 favour biotechnology, which is the suggestion. Rule: a debilitated 9th or 4th lord in D-24 means the native did not get the line of study he wanted.

Jaimini sutras 1.2.91–1.2.101, read by a guest teacher. Disease from the 4th or 5th of Swamsa: Rahu and Mars together show tuberculosis, and the Moon's aspect makes it sure; Mars alone gives boils, ulcers, cuts and gangrene (Agni tattva, pitta); Ketu gives glandular and waterborne disease; Rahu with Gulika gives affliction from poison, turned by the aspect of Mercury or Venus (handles poison medically), Jupiter (consumes it) or Mars (sells it). The sutras are advisory: confirm disease in the D-6, and in the Navamsa use rasi drishti, since graha drishti shows desire. Gulika is the poison we receive from the world, Maandi the poison we give. Then the skills of the 5th: Saturn the archer, Ketu watches and miniaturization, Mercury the ascetic, Rahu the metallurgist, Sun the swordsman, Mars the lancer — read today as logic and the power of execution. The teacher says plainly where he is guessing at the reason and where he does not know it.

Matri Shola Dasha, Mother's Cancer Analysis via L4 & Sthira Karaka + Cancer vs Tumor Indicators

A student's mother is in the last stage of cancer, and PVNR reads the son's chart for her. First a sanity check with Matri Shoola Dasha in the rashi chart: the dashas of A4, of its trines and of the trines of mother's Sthira Karaka (the stronger of Mars and Moon) can kill, and Scorpio dasha, running 2004–2013, is A4 itself. Then Vimshottari, read in the Dwadasamsa from L4, the Arudha of the 4th lord: Saturn is 2nd lord in the 3rd with Ketu, Mercury is 7th lord in the 7th, and Moon as 8th lord is hemmed in by Rahu, Saturn and Ketu. Saturn is the one planet that weakens the sign he owns and occupies, because the 1st house is his Marana Karaka Sthana. The Tithi Pravesha Dwadasamsa of the running year shows disease, not death — Mars, ruler of the year, is 8th lord, and Sun and Ketu sit in the 8th — while the next year has strong marakas. Mental Retardation Analysis — Moon+Mercury in D30, Ketu Dasha Pattern & Venus Dasha Recovery Window

A three-year-old girl with mental retardation, Libra lagna. Moon with Saturn in D-6 and D-30 shows only "some mental problem" — it could as well be depression; retardation needs Mercury, the learning ability, to be badly afflicted too. In D-30 Mercury is the 8th lord in the bādhaka sthāna, hemmed between Saturn and the nodes and aspected by Mars and Rāhu by graha dṛṣṭi. In rāśi Moon is at 29°30′ Pisces, deep gaṇḍānta, in the 6th and owns A8; Ketu with Mars, A6, Māndi and Gulika in the 2nd times the discovery to the start of Ketu daśā. Prognosis: Ketu daśā is bad throughout, Ketu–Jupiter (Sep 2007 – Aug 2008) is the best window because the Moon–Jupiter parivartana makes Jupiter a 6th lord in the 6th (Harṣa yoga), and Venus daśā from 2010 promises recovery. A high-school senior with obsessive compulsive disorder, Gemini lagna. Lagna lord Mercury is in the 7th, his maraṇa kāraka sthāna and the bādhaka sthāna, with 8th lord Saturn and a Sun at half a degree of Sagittarius — Mūla, deep gaṇḍānta. Moon, lord of A6, is with Rāhu in the 9th. In D-30 an exalted Sun and Mars both aspect Moon: where Saturn and Rāhu on the Moon deplete the mind, Sun gives over-control of the mind and Mars the anger — a reading the teacher gives with the caveat that he is not fully sure. Using Dvisaptati Sama daśā, the trouble starts in Rāhu, recurs through Sun, and Moon and Mars daśās do not promise a cure; only Mercury daśā from 2029 does. Bone Fracture Chart — Multi-Dasha Analysis, Rahu-Ketu in D30, D20 Deity from 5th House & L7 Spouse

A Leo-lagna native broke a bone on April 6, 2006. The Sun, lagna lord and karaka of bones, is with Ketu in Navamsa and with Rahu and Ketu in Shashthamsa and Trimshamsa, so he cannot protect. In the natal chart Dwisaptati Sama dasha (7th lord in lagna) gives Sun–Mercury, with Mercury delivering the results of Ketu, who has no dasha in that scheme; Vimshottari gives Saturn–Saturn. In the Tithi Pravesha chart of the year, Tithi Ashtottari gives the Sun's period and explains little, while Shashtihayani dasha (Sun in lagna) gives the Moon, placed in the 8th with A6 — the teacher's lesson is to try the conditional dasha when Tithi Ashtottari does not satisfy. Remedies: Mahaganapati and Mahamrityunjaya homams, and care in Sun–Rahu of 2010–11. Hearing Loss Case (Cancer Lagna) — Multi-Divisional Analysis, Moon's Dual Role & Surgery Timing

An eight-year-old with hearing loss and a suspected tumor; the family wants a time for surgery. The 3rd house is the ears and the 11th is hearing: 11th lord Venus is in Marana Karaka Sthana, and lagna lord Moon sits in the 2nd with 8th lord Rahu in Gandanta. PVNR shows why Cancer Narayana dasha brought the problem out (A11 in Cancer; Cancer's argala on A6 and on 8th lord Saturn), why Vimshottari Sun–Mercury is a maraka period (2nd and 3rd lords in Scorpio with A8, 3rd from Arudha Lagna), and why Saturn and Ketu over the natal Moon make it a time to lie low and pray. The Moon is lagna lord in D-1 but 6th lord in D-6, so Durga worship is advised and pearl is not. Gandanta Does NOT Weaken Raj Yoga, A9 vs L9 for Father's Death & Adopted Children Framework

Four answers to students' questions. A planet in Gandanta does not give a weaker Raj Yoga; Gandanta shows the planet's inclination to do physical harm, and it augments only a duryoga such as lagna lord with the 6th or 8th lord. For the father, A9 is the inanimate image the world calls "his father" and L9 (arudha of the 9th lord) is the animated person: use A9 for death and accidents with Shula dasha, L9 in D-12, and treat the Pitri Shula dasha link to A9 as confirmation, never prediction. For adoption PVNR knows no traditional rule for seeing individual adopted children; 5th-house weakness shows Datta Putra yoga, and the year of adoption needs good influences on the 5th on a natal chart that allows it. On muhurta, the astrologer serves: give honest advice and leave it there unless the person is your sishya.

BPHS Ch.9 — 14 Balarishta (Infant Death) Yogas, Sandhya Definition & Mahamrityunjaya Remedy

BPHS Chapter 9 (Arishtadhyaya) read verse by verse. An arishta can act until age 24, and while one is present normal longevity methods are not applied. The page goes through the first 16 verses: Moon or a retrograde benefic in a dusthana under malefic aspect, the 5th-house combination for mother or brother, Mars in lagna or the 8th, eclipse births, the Hora-chart verse, planets in the 12th, Sandhya with Gandanta, Scorpio lagna, and Papakartari on lagna — with the places where the teacher reads the verse differently from Santhanam. Verses 17–30 of the Arishta chapter of BPHS, read from the Sanskrit one by one: what each combination is, where the grammar settles a doubt (dual "papau" = two malefics, "cha" = and), and where the teacher differs from Santhanam. Verses 17–23 concern the child: malefics in lagna and the 7th, waning Moon in lagna, Moon in Papakartari in the 1st, 7th, 8th or 12th, and all planets powerless in apoklimas. Verses 24–29 concern the mother and father, and verse 30 the family. Along the way: why kendras give with effort, panapharas more easily and apoklimas with the most difficulty. The chart of a day-old girl, Sagittarius lagna, born just after sunrise. 9th lord Sun and 10th lord Mercury sit within half a degree of each other in lagna with Hora Lagna and Ghatika Lagna, so the Dharma-Karma-Adhipati yoga is given by Maha Yogadas. Two conditional dashas qualify, Shashtihayani (Sun in lagna) and Dwisaptati Sama (7th lord in lagna); the teacher explains how to choose and prefers Shashtihayani. Against the promise stand three planets in Gandanta: Saturn deepest, then Mars, who is Atmakaraka and dispositor of the lagna lord, then Moon in the 8th. BPHS Ch.9 Balarishta Verses 31–45 (Complete) — Father/Mother Combinations, Final Summary Verse & Karma Philosophy

The class opens with karma: any gift can turn into bad karma for the giver, and the only way out is to give up the sense of doership and hand the act to a devatā, meaning it. Then verses 31–45 finish Balarishta: the combinations for loss of mother (31–33), for loss of father (34–42), and the general rule of reading father from Sun and mother from Moon, including malefics in the 6th, 8th and 4th from the kāraka. The teacher marks which verses are rare and which are common (verses 36 and 38 are found in many charts and must not be read as early death), explains verse 37 from the 9th from Sun, and reads "śatru" in verse 38 by compound relationship against Santhanam. The closing verse governs the whole chapter: weigh the strength of the afflicting and the afflicted planet, then predict death or only trouble.

BPHS Ch.12 — 1st House (Tanubhava) Rules: Lagna Lord Conditions, Natural Benefic/Malefic & Special Combinations

BPHS Ch.12 in Santhanam’s edition, Tanubhava Phaladhyaya — the effects of the 1st house, read verse by verse. The lagna lord in the 6th, 8th or 12th destroys bodily comfort only when he is also with a malefic (pāpa — a functional malefic in PVNR’s judgment); in a kendra or koṇa he gives comfort by placement alone. Combust, debilitated or in an inimical sign he gives disease, and benefics in kendras and koṇas are the antidote, with relief timed to their daśā. Natural malefics (krūra) on lagna or Moon without benefic aspect deny bodily happiness; a natural benefic (saumya) in lagna gives good looks and royal charm. Also the twin combination, Sun and Moon in one sign and one navāṁśa (three mothers), the rule that all of this is read from Chandra lagna too, and two class questions: a lagna lord in the 6th, and a bādhakeśa in an inimical sign.

Body Parts Mapped to Houses via Drekkanas — 3 Sets: Head (1st Drekkana), Torso (2nd), Lower Body (3rd)

Parāśara gives three lists of body parts, one for each drekkana the lagna can fall in, used to place wounds, moles and ailments. Lagna in the 1st drekkana (head): 1H top of head, 2H/12H right and left eye, 3H/11H ears, 4H/10H nostrils, 5H/9H cheeks, 6H/8H the two sides of the chin, 7H face. Middle drekkana: 1H neck, 2H/12H hands, 3H/11H shoulders, 4H/10H sides of the trunk, 5H/9H sides of the chest (hṛdaya), 6H/8H sides of the stomach, 7H navel. 3rd drekkana: 1H lower abdomen, 2H genitals, 12H anus, 3H/11H testicles, 4H/10H thighs, 5H/9H knees, 6H/8H calves, 7H both feet. PVNR derives the 12 from the dual and singular words of the verse and corrects Santhanam’s table in several places. How the other two lists are seen in a given chart is debated in class and left open.

BPHS Ch.13 Verses 12–13 — Eyes (Venus Karaka), Speech+Truthfulness & Key Teaching: 2nd House vs 2nd Lord

The class opens with a follow-up on the previous lesson’s drekkana scheme for body parts: test it on charts by the planets occupying and aspecting a drekkana and their links to the 6th lord, 8th lord and bādhakeśa, in the rāśi chart only; the teacher gives no verdict. BPHS Ch.13 verse 12: a strong 2nd lord gives beautiful eyes, a 2nd lord in the 6th, 8th or 12th gives defective eyes; the 2nd house is the main controller of the eyes and the left eye can sometimes be seen from the 12th. Verse 13: 2nd lord and 2nd house both with malefics make a liar with vāta disease; reversed, benefic influence on both makes a truthful person. Karakas: Jupiter for wealth and truthfulness, Mercury for speech, Sun for vision, Venus for the eyes — and Venus with Ketu alone does not show eye trouble without the 2nd house and lord. BPHS Ch.15 Verse 8–9 — Profit from Cattle, 3rd/8th from Any House as Vitality/Vulnerability & Bādhaka Sthāna

Verse 8: Sun in the 4th, Moon and Saturn in the 9th and Mars in the 11th give gains from cows and buffaloes. The Sun shows living beings held as property, Saturn in the 9th makes the hard work of lowly creatures the native's fortune, and the 6th and 8th (one’s own hard work) are not involved. Verse 9 on dumbness can be read three ways; the teacher takes the 4th in a movable sign, the 4th lord in the 6th and Mars in the 12th, departing from Santhanam on two points. The 4th matters for speech because it is the 3rd from the 2nd: the 3rd from any house is its vitality and the 8th from any house its longevity and vulnerability, and a movable sign there makes the vitality shaky. Such a secondary factor is a modifier, never the determinant. The page ends with bādhaka sthāna (heard as "Bhadra sthana" on the recording): the 9th from a fixed sign, the 11th from a movable sign, the 7th from a dual sign.

Mrityubhaga (Death-Inflicting Degree) — Definition, Controversy, D30 Root & Mundane New Year Charts: Hora Lord vs Vara Lord

Mrityubhaga: in each sign one degree is fatal for a given planet. The nth degree means (n−1)° to n°; K.S. Charak takes it as the point n° with half a degree either side, which the teacher rejects because bhāga means a portion and the degrees are rooted in Trimsamsa (D-30). A planet in Mrityubhaga with a link to the 8th house, the 8th lord or A8 gives a bad daśā in a Tithi Pravesha year, and huge suffering or death-like situations in the natal chart. In mundane work the teacher rejects the traditional planetary cabinet, which takes the weekday lord of the sunrise after the New Year; he takes the Hora lord at the exact moment, cast for the capital, so different countries have different kings. The 2007 Lunar New Year charts of Iran, Iraq and the US are read this way, and each further chart (Sun–Moon in Libra for finance, Sun entering Ardra for rain) has its own ruler and its own year. The class ends with country charts (no Vimshottari for a country) and with when to use the annual chart and when the natal chart.

BPHS Ch.17 — 6th House Disease Indicators: Body Part by Planet, Disease Type by 6th/8th Lord + Planet, Leprosy Combinations

BPHS Ch.17, the results of the 6th house, verse by verse. The body part afflicted goes by planet: Sun head, Moon face, Mars throat, Mercury navel, Jupiter nose, Venus eyes, Saturn feet and legs, Rahu and Ketu stomach. The same holds for a relative when the lord of his house is with his karaka and they are joined by the 6th lord or sit in the 6th or 8th. Then the lagna lord in a Mars or Mercury sign (face), the leprosy combinations around Moon, and the disease shown by the planet that joins the 6th or 8th lord in lagna — fever, blood, pitta, vata, kapha, with Jupiter giving no disease. PVNR treats the list as a hint, not a thumb rule, and says what the chart is for: warning a person before the dasha, so that diet is changed and checks are done early.

BPHS Ch.17 Verses 13+ — Chronically Sickly, Mars in 6H (Fever 6th/12th Year), Rahu+Mandi+Lagna-Lord-in-8H (TB Age 26)

The class finishes the 6th house chapter of BPHS from verse 13. A functional malefic in the 6th, the 6th lord with a functional malefic and Saturn with Rahu make a person who is always sick. Mars in the 6th with the 6th lord in the 8th gives fever in the 6th or 12th year; Moon and Jupiter in the 6th give leprosy in the 19th or 22nd; Rahu in the 6th, Mandi in a quadrant and the lagna lord in the 8th give tuberculosis in the 26th; the 6th and 12th lords in exchange give spleen disease in the 29th or 30th; Moon with Saturn in the 6th gives blood leprosy at 55. Along the way: Mars in the 6th is good and still gives hot diseases, a Viprita Raja Yoga has suffering built into it, and a combination found in one chart of 144 is never applied without its modifiers — shown on a student’s Aries-lagna chart.

BPHS Ch.17 — Vata at 59 (Late Disease = Strong Constitution), Animal Attack, Fire Danger, Gland Disorders & Sanskrit Number Encoding

Four more timing verses of the 6th house chapter. Lagna lord in lagna with Saturn in an inimical sign gives vata disease only in the 59th year, which means good health in general; a karaka of a bad matter in an inimical sign makes the bad results worse. The 8th lord in the 6th, the 12th lord in lagna and the Moon with the 6th lord give danger from an animal in the 8th year, and the class works out that A8 then falls in the 4th house of cattle and vehicles. Rahu in the 6th or 8th with Saturn in the 8th from him gives fire in the first two years and trouble from birds in the third. The 8th lord with Rahu in rasi, and in the 8th or a trine of the navamsa, gives gland or urinary disorders in the 18th or 22nd year. BPHS Ch.17 — Son Becomes Enemy, Lagna Lord in 6H + 6th Lord in 6H (Dog Danger), Viprita Raja Yoga's Health Cost & Practical Modifiers

The last verses of the 6th house chapter deal with enemies. The 11th and 6th lords in exchange give loss of money through enemies in the 31st year: from the 11th it is an exchange of lagna lord and 8th lord, from the 6th the lord sits in the 6th from his own house. The 5th lord in the 6th, the 6th lord with Jupiter and the 12th lord in lagna make the son an enemy; the arudha of the 12th falls in the 2nd, a loss in the family. Lagna lord and 6th lord together in the 6th are said to give fear of dogs in the 10th or 19th year, and the teacher doubts the verse because Saturn, the karaka of dogs, is nowhere in it. The page closes with the 6th-12th exchange, a Viprita Raja Yoga that still costs health, and with the rule that no verse is applied without looking for modifiers.

Child's Chart (2004) — Hyperactivity/Shivering, D30 Root Cause, Dhatu Karakas & Mars (Nerve Tissue) vs Mercury (Nerve Communication)

A three-year-old boy is hyperactive and at times suddenly shivers and shouts; his father asks whether it is a health problem or Kundalini. Sun is in lagna, so Shashtihayani daśā is used, and because the trouble runs through two daśās it is read as lifelong. Rasi: lagna lord Mars in the 12th with Ketu and the 12th lord, 8th lord Mercury in lagna — weak for health, strong for detachment; Moon as 9th lord in the 5th aspected by Jupiter and Saturn in the 9th add orthodox dharma. Trimshamsa is the root of every problem: Mercury, 8th lord in both charts, sits in the D30 lagna in a sign of Mars (fire), and the exalted bādhaka lord Moon with Saturn warns of bouts of depression. The class revises the dhatu karakas and separates Mars, the nerve tissue, from Mercury, the communication in the nerves. The dog attack of June 2007 is read from the D30 and D6 of the previous year’s Tithi Praveśa chart, and the round-figure birth time keeps Vimshamsa in reserve.

BPHS Ch.19 — Ashtama Bhava Longevity Verses: 4 Key Planets (Lagna Lord > Saturn > 8th Lord > 10th Lord), Verse-by-Verse Rules & Kshema Vimshottari

BPHS Ch.19, the 8th house chapter, read verse by verse. Parashara starts loose (8th lord in a Kendra = long life, about a 40% indication alone) and then refines: lagna lord, 8th lord, 10th lord and Saturn in Kendra, Trikona or the 11th; two or three of the four are needed, and with three it is about 90%. Short-life verses: lagna lord and 8th lord with functional malefics in the 8th; 8th lord in a Kendra with a very weak lagna lord (20 years, at most 32); afflicted 8th house and 8th lord with a malefic 12th or 5th; a Moon joined by malefics with no benefic aspect. One verse (8th lord debilitated in Lagna) is impossible for every lagna and is probably corrupt. Jupiter as Jiva in the 8th, Lagna or 10th gives long life, and an extremely strong lagna lord lifts the whole chart. When the planets disagree, find the one that controls the others; in importance: lagna lord, Saturn, 8th lord, 10th lord.

Longevity Case Studies — Kanchi Swami (100 Years: Vargottama Saturn 73%), Example Chart (20 Years: Verse 6 + Jupiter in 6H) & Rahu in Leo/Virgo Raj Yoga

The Chapter 19 rules applied to two charts. Kanchi Swami (Leo lagna, lived about 100 years): lagna lord Sun and 8th lord Jupiter are in the 10th, Saturn is in a friend's sign in the 2nd, and 10th lord Venus, exalted in the 8th, becomes strong through her Parivartana with Jupiter. The "extremely strong lagna lord" verse does not fit the Sun or Venus, but it nearly fits Saturn: Vargottama, 73% in Vimsopaka Bala, aspected by Mars, Sun and Jupiter from Kendras. The second native (Sagittarius lagna, died at about 20): lagna lord Jupiter in the 6th in an enemy's sign, 8th lord Moon in Lagna with the 6th lord, 10th lord Mercury in the 12th; only Saturn, alone in the 8th in Cancer, promises life. The "8th lord in a Kendra, lagna lord very weak = 20 to 32 years" verse fits, and by Kshema Vimshottari he was in the dasha of the weak lagna lord. BPHS Ch.20 — Father's Death Timing (Verses 13–24): Specific Ages (1, 7, 19, 28, 33, 50) & Arudha Analysis (A8/A12 from 9th)

BPHS Ch.20 (Santhanam’s edition) from verse 12 to verse 24, read śloka by śloka. Verse 12 is the begging yoga; verses 13–24 give combinations for the father’s death at stated ages of the native — before birth, 1st year, 3 or 16, 2 or 12, 16 or 18, 7 or 19, 28, 5/31/40, 50, 6 or 25, 21/26/30, 26 or 33. The teacher explains each through the same pattern: a bad ārūḍha (A6, A8, A12), lord or planet such as Rahu in a māraka sthāna from the 9th house or from the 9th from Sun, with the kāraka Sun afflicted. He says where the logic stops — the ages themselves mostly cannot be explained — and where he reads the Sanskrit differently from Santhanam (28 instead of 44; Rahu in the 3rd or 7th; Saturn in the 7th or 8th; 33 instead of 30).

Mental Health Case (1982, Pisces Lagna) — D30 Mercury Bhadaka in Lagna, Sri Rama Remedy (Sun+Mercury Combined) & Why Mahavidyas Are Not for Material Well-Being

A student's chart: a Pisces-lagna man, hospitalised for mental instability, who left finance to study medicine. The rule taught: for mental instability either Moon (manah karaka) or Mercury (nervous system, balance) must be afflicted. Here Sun (6th lord) and Mercury (badhaka lord) sit on Arudha Lagna in Rasi and in lagna itself in Trimsamsa; in D6 Mercury is badhaka lord again. Career is read from D10: Jupiter as lagna and 10th lord in the 10th gives Hamsa yoga and points to teaching, while Sun, the 6th lord with Venus in an inimical sign, gives a medical career that does not last; A8 in the 10th with Jupiter means sudden good breaks. Remedies: yellow sapphire for the lagna lord but never ruby, emerald or diamond; the Surya ashtakshari "Om Ghrinih Surya Adityah"; and "Sri Rama Rama Rama" for an hour a day, which answers Sun and Mercury together. The palana devata, from the 6th from Amatyakaraka in Navamsa, is Hanuman — and the class hears why a Mahavidya should not be given for material well-being.

Entrepreneur Case (1960, Virgo Lagna) — Marriage/Accident/Factory/Stock Crash Timeline, Lagna Vimshottari vs Chandra Vimshottari & D16 for Public Transport Accidents

A student's father: a Virgo-lagna entrepreneur (born 1960) who bought a leather-chemical factory on borrowed money, recovered the investment, lost it in the stock market and had to sell the factory. The class tests each dated event against Lagna Vimshottari and Chandra Vimshottari and learns why both are kept: lagna is how you act on the world, Moon is how the world acts on you. Career is read from D10 (Scorpio lagna): lagna lord Mars with Saturn in the 8th makes a risk-taker with a rough ride; the factory comes in Rahu–Venus, the recovery and the fall in Jupiter dasha, the loss of the factory when Saturn dasha begins. The May 2000 crash is read from Hora, where Sun, the 12th lord in the 11th, is eclipsed by Rahu. Also taught: D16 covers accidents in a bus as much as in your own car; Jupiter in gandanta, karaka for diabetes; Saturn for arthritis; the Tithi Pravesha test for whether to start something new; real estate yes, stock market never; Hanuman Chalisa 54 times a day.

A8 from AL (Sudden Rise or Fall), Saturn-Jupiter Mutual Exchange Results, Jupiter = Diabetes Karaka, Saturn = Vata/Arthritis & Hanuman for Saturn-Mars Charts

The principles drawn out of the two charts of this class. A8 can mean a sudden rise or a big fall: the planet sitting in it decides, judged as a functional benefic or malefic from lagna — in the first chart Jupiter in A8 in the 10th of D10 gives sudden good breaks, Saturn there gives the negative side. Planets placed together exchange results, so Saturn's periods give Jupiter's results and Jupiter's give Saturn's; in the second chart that makes Saturn dasha the carrier of a badhaka lord Jupiter in gandanta, and worse for health than Jupiter dasha itself. Jupiter is the karaka for diabetes, Saturn for vata conditions such as arthritis. Remedies: Mrityunjaya homa and mantra for a planet in gandanta; for Saturn with Mars, Hanuman Chalisa 54 times a day, because a severe affliction needs a severe effort.

Example Chart (1960) — Shoola Dasha Longevity (Aquarius Dasha Critical), D20 Saturn Dasha Spiritual Life & 3rd from AL = Circumstances of Death

A Virgo-lagna chart (born 1960) is read for longevity and then for spiritual life. A maraka period is confirmed in two Vimshottari systems and in the Rudramsa (D-11) before the Shoola Dasha is opened: the danger signs are the Arudha Lagna, its trines and the 3rd from it, and the running Aquarius dasha (till 2014) is a trine from AL, holds Ketu and is aspected by Sun and Rahu from Leo. The 3rd from AL shows the circumstances of death; Rahu there means sudden and unnatural. The three-parts rule gives two short and one middle, lifted to lower-middle life by the exalted lagna lord. In the Vimshamsa (Leo lagna) Saturn, Jupiter and Mars are in lagna, so Saturn dasha gives the results of Jupiter, the 5th and 8th lord, with the 8th house in Pisces: temple-going turns into a search for Brahman. Child Chart (2001, Libra Lagna) — D24 Siddhamsa for Learning, Pachakadi Samandhas (4 Planet Relationships) & Brahmana Sapa Yoga (AK Involvement)

A full reading of a 7-year-old with asthma, late speech and slow learning (Libra lagna). The D-24 lagna is settled as Taurus, not Aries, because only Taurus puts a functional malefic Jupiter in the 4th of learning; the D-24 Narayana daśā is seeded from the 4th lord of the rāśi chart and shows trouble until 2013. The class introduces the Pachakādi sambandhas (Pāchaka, Bodhaka, Kāraka, Vedhaka) and finds Saturn the key planet. D-30 shows the nodes in a Vāyu rāśi with unobstructed reverse argalā on Mercury; D-6 Paryāya daśā and the Moola daśā explain asthma from birth. Mars is a māraka in gaṇḍānta and in Mṛtyubhāga, and Jupiter carries a Brahmana śāpa with the Ātmakāraka Rāhu. The class ends with a pearl that upset a manager’s career: gems are a rājasic remedy.

Autism Chart (2002, Cancer Lagna) — Moon Rasi Sandhi + Near-Eclipse by Rahu, D24 Mandi in 5H, Prasna Drekkana = Future & Gemstone vs Prayer Rule

A six-year-old boy with autism who does not yet speak (Jan 25, 2002; Cancer lagna, time not rectified). Lagna lord Moon sits in the first degree of Gemini in the 12th, 20 minutes from 8th lord Rahu, while Jupiter is 13° away and cannot protect him. D30 has Moon with both nodes in a sign of Mars; D24 (Libra lagna) has Mandi and Gulika in the 5th and the 5th co-lord Rahu with Moon in the Badhakasthana, and Rahu dasha runs from 2005 to 2023. The page then covers the remedies: Chandi for Rahu done by the parents themselves, why a gemstone strengthens a planet’s influence and not the planet, why pearl and yellow sapphire are rejected and red coral for yogakaraka Mars is chosen, and how to wear it. Lady with Bone Marrow Disease (the example 1951, Gemini Lagna) — Chaturasiti Sama Dasha (10L in 10H), D6 Lagna Lord ≠ Protection & Narasimha Mantra

A lady born in 1951 (Gemini lagna 2°48') hospitalized in early 2008 with a bone marrow disease and waiting for a transplant donor. Because the 10th lord Jupiter is in the 10th, the conditional Chaturasiti Sama Dasha is used: Saturn dasha (8th lord and lord of A6) with Mars antardasha (6th lord in lagna, in a weapon drekkana) brought the blow, and Venus pratyantardasha (12th lord with Ketu) the hospitalization. D6 confirms disease — Badhaka lord Saturn in the 8th and lagna lord Mars in the 6th — and gives the rule that a divisional chart’s lagna lord is the self in that area of life, not protection. Mercury antardasha from March 2009 gives a new lease of life but not full recovery; Narasimha is the remedy. Maraka periods, Shoola Dasha and two Tithi Pravesha charts place the danger to life in Sun dasha, May 2014 to October 2017, not now.

Rasi Sandhi (0° Balayavastha), Bhadakasthana by Lagna Type, Mandi/Gulika (Sons of Saturn), D30 Affliction Sign Quality & Vastu Basics

The working rules drawn from the two cases of this class. A planet in the first degree of a sign is in Rasi Sandhi, deep infancy, and weak. The Badhakasthana is the 11th for movable, the 9th for fixed and the 7th for dual lagnas, and an evil combination there is more evil. Mandi and Gulika, the sons of Saturn, afflict the house they sit in; an affliction in D30 is harder to overcome in a sign of Mars or Saturn than in a benefic’s sign; a strong planet is not thereby a good one. Also the rules for prasna, for prayer against gemstone, and the teacher’s answers on Vastu: the 9 × 9 mandala for the main door, kitchen in the southeast, and why every direction has a good and a bad side.

Example Chart (1953, Cancer Lagna) — Elbow/Nerve Pain: Mars in Gandanta + Sarpa Drekkana, TP Mercury as Badhaka + Nakshatra Pravesh for Health & Kavachas

A student asks whether an elbow pain that began two weeks before the class (July 2008) will last. Lagna is stronger than Moon, so Lagna Vimshottari is used: the dasha of Mars is just starting. Mars is the yogakaraka for Cancer lagna, but he is in lagna in gandanta, in a sarpa drekkana, lord of the 64th navamsa, and alone aspects the 8th of D-6; Mars rules nerve tissue. The Tithi Pravesha of 2007 explains the onset in Mercury’s period (badhaka lord in the badhaka sthana, 7th lord in the 8th of D-6, 8th lord in the 7th of D-30); the 2008 chart has the three trinal lords in the 8th and shows no lasting illness. Verdict: weeks to a couple of months, not long-term. Remedy: the kavachas of Moon, the lagna lord, and of Mars.

BPHS Ch.24 — 5th Lord in Houses 7–9: Very Dharmic (9L in 11th from 9H), A5 in 9H = Blessed, Breathing Disorders (5L in 8H = 6th from 3H) & Fortunate Son

PVNR reads Parāśara’s verses for the 5th lord in the 7th, 8th and 9th and derives each result by taking the relevant house as lagna. In the 7th: respected through interaction with people rather than accomplishment (from the 10th it is only the 8th lord in the 10th), very dharmic (9th lord in the 11th from the 9th), happy with children (A5 in the 9th, argala on the 4th) and helpful (11th lord in lagna from the 7th). In the 8th: little happiness from children (A5 falls in the 8th itself), breathing disorders (the planet is 6th from the 3rd), anger and no peace. He then shows the other side from his own chart: Virgo lagna with Saturn in Aries gave him allergic bronchitis and a short temper, and also every academic distinction, because the 5th lord in the 8th has argala on the 5th and joins scholarship to hard work and mantra to sādhana. In the 9th: the son, not the native, is the one "like a king", and the native is famous and the light of his family. The verses are guidelines, never applied in toto.

BPHS Ch.24 — 6th Lord in Houses 1–3: Diseased + Honorable + Atma Satru (1H), Famous in Lineage + Lives Abroad (2H) & Angry Paradox + Enmity with Brothers (3H)

Parāśara’s results for the 6th lord in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd houses, each derived by taking the house of the matter as lagna. In lagna: diseased and an enemy of himself or his own people (5th lord in the 12th from the 2nd), yet famous (2nd lord in the 9th from the 5th), honourable (9th lord in the 4th from the 10th), brave and virtuous. In the 2nd: weak initiative but fights to the finish (lagna lord in the 9th from the 6th), famous in the family, wants to live abroad, gains comforts, speaks well, has good work ethics. In the 3rd: fire in the belly but no courage (the 4th lord from the 3rd pours water on fire), enmity with brothers, and servants who answer back. The lesson: a planet bad for lagna is not bad for every house.

BPHS Ch.24 — 6th Lord in Houses 4–6: No Maternal Happiness + Rumor-Monger + Super-Rich (4H), Enmity Children + Kind + Selfish (5H) & Enmity Kinsmen + Friendly Strangers (6H)

Parāśara’s results for the 6th lord in the 4th, 5th and 6th houses. In the 4th: no happiness from mother, a shrewd problem-solver (11th from the 6th), a rumour-monger (10th lord in the 8th from the 9th), jealous (the lord of weaknesses has argala on the 12th of humility), fickle, and able and willing to make wealth (5th lord in the 3rd from the 2nd). In the 5th: rich but has to fight to keep it, enmity with children, friendships that break (8th lord in the 7th from the 11th), happy, selfish and kind at once, and not a fighter. In the 6th: enmity with a group of close kinsmen, friendly with everyone else, good wealth but only medium contentment from it.

BPHS Ch.24 — 6th Lord in Houses 7–9: No Marital Bliss (12L in Lagna from 7H), Famous + Bold + Wealthy (7H), Diseased + Unclean + Loose Morals (8H) & Deals in Misfortune Articles (9H)

PVNR finishes the 6th lord from the Santhanam edition of BPHS (which he numbers Chapter 24, verse 67 onward) and derives each result by taking the relevant house as lagna. 6th lord in the 7th: no marital bliss, because from the 7th he is the 12th lord of losses in lagna; yet famous (2nd lord in the 3rd from the 5th), virtuous (10th lord in the 11th from the 9th), respected (9th lord in the 10th from the 10th), bold (4th lord in the 5th from the 3rd) and wealthy (5th lord in the 6th from the 2nd). 6th lord in the 8th: diseased, quarrelsome (12th lord in the 2nd from the 7th), after other people's money (11th lord in lagna from the 8th), interested in others' wives (10th lord in the 12th from the 9th, joined to the 7th lord in a trine from the 12th) and unclean (a dusthāna lord in a dusthāna). He warns against reading this mechanically: the Navāṁśa decides the dharma of the person, the 8th is also sādhana, and a saint with the 6th and 8th lords in lagna simply did not care about his dirty clothes. 6th lord in the 9th: trades in wood and stones, meaning articles with a connotation of death and misfortune (12th lord from the 7th of business), with gains and losses alternating (8th lord in the 11th from the 11th).

BPHS Ch.24 — 7th Lord in Houses 1–3: Very Outgoing + Wicked + Clever + Vata Diseases (1H), Multiple Marriages + Wealth from Marriage + Procrastinator (2H) & Children Survival Problems (3H)

Parashara’s results for the 7th lord in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd houses (Ch.24 verses 73–75 in the Santhanam edition), each derived by taking the house of the result as lagna. In the 1st: outgoing and drawn to others’ spouses, wicked (a Maraka in lagna weakens character), clever (3rd lord in the 9th from the 5th), without fighting spirit (2nd lord in the 8th from the 6th, though the 3rd house view shows he has initiative) and prone to Vata disease. In the 2nd: one marriage ends and he marries again (lord in the 8th from the 7th), wealth comes through marriage, and he procrastinates (the lord of desire in the 12th from the 3rd). In the 3rd: children’s survival is in danger (8th lord in the 4th from the 12th house, with argala), a child who survives is bold, and the Saptamsa must confirm it. The teacher also adds results the verses leave out: speech, and dealings with foreigners.

BPHS Ch.24 — 7th Lord in Houses 4–6: Spouse Independent (Career Woman) + Dharmic + Intelligent + Dental Problems (4H), Honorable + All Virtues + Cheerful + Wealthy (5H) & Wife Sick + Quarrels + Angry (6H)

Parashara’s results for the 7th lord in the 4th, 5th and 6th houses (Ch.24 verses 76–78 in the Santhanam edition), each derived by taking the house of the result as lagna. In the 4th: the spouse has her own career and mind (lagna lord in the 10th from the 7th); he is truthful and dharmic (11th lord in the 8th from the 9th, a Viparita Raja Yoga) and intelligent (3rd lord in the 12th from the 5th); teeth, feet or the left eye suffer (8th lord in the 5th from the 12th). In the 5th: honoured but with ups and downs (10th lord in the 8th from the 10th), virtuous, cheerful (lagna lord in the 11th from the 7th) and wealthy (an upachaya lord in a quadrant from the 2nd with argala). In the 6th: the wife is sick or turns spiritual (the lord in the 12th from his own house), he quarrels with her and with everyone, he is angry (argala on the 8th) and has no happiness (4th lord in the 3rd from the 4th).

BPHS Ch.24 — 8th Lord in Houses 1–3: No Physical Comfort + Irreligious (1H), Physically Weak + Loses Wealth Permanently (2H), No Brother Happiness + Lazy + Independent Servants (3H) & Why 2nd/7th Are Maraka Sthanas

Verses 85–87 of the bhāva-lords chapter, read the teacher’s way: the 8th lord ruins the house he sits in, and each remaining result is explained by counting from another house. In lagna he denies bodily comfort and gives wounds or chronic disease; as 12th lord from the 9th he gives up dharma, though the same placement can give occult insight and understanding beyond the letter of a rule. In the 2nd he is the 7th lord from the 2nd sitting in it, so he kills wealth and what is lost does not return; as 6th lord from the 3rd in the 12th from it he makes the native weak, and his daśā can kill. In the 3rd he gives no happiness from siblings, laziness and weakness, and servants with a mind of their own (3rd lord from the 6th in the 10th from it). The page also gives the reason the 2nd and 7th are māraka sthānas: they are the 12th from the 3rd and 8th, the two houses of life.

BPHS Ch.24 — 8th Lord in Houses 4–6: No Mother/Property + Betrays Friends (4H), Dull Intelligence + Long-Lived + Sudden Wealth A8 in 11H (5H), Victor over Enemies BUT Full of Diseases — Viparita Rajayoga NEVER Applies to Health (6H)

Verses 88–90. The 8th lord in the 4th denies happiness from mother, house and land, though as 5th lord from the 4th he can make the mother herself fortunate; as the planet of sins in the 6th from the 11th he makes the native betray friends. In the 5th he dulls the intelligence and gives long life, and the wealth promised is sudden money, not a steady bank balance: he aspects the 11th, A8 falls in the 11th, and the house of speculation joins the house of pūrva-puṇya. In the 6th he gives victory over enemies by Viparīta Rāja Yoga but a body full of disease, because Viparīta Rāja Yoga never applies to health. Danger from water is traced to A8 in the 4th, a watery house, with the warning not to predict it from this alone; for the snakes the teacher says he can find no reason.

BPHS Ch.24 — 8th Lord in Houses 7–9: Two Wives + Maraka for Native (7H), Long Life + Thief + Blame-Game (8H) & Adharmic + Atheist + Harsh Wife + Takes Others' Money (9H)

Parāśara's verses for the 8th lord in the 7th, 8th and 9th houses, each result derived by counting from the house concerned. In the 7th: two wives, because he is the wife's 2nd lord sitting in her lagna, and because the 8th lord brings change to the house he occupies; he is a māraka for the native too, and business suffers — certain only when a malefic is there. In the 8th: long life (medium even if the planet has no strength), a thief because the 8th is other people's money, blameworthy because the 8th is the 12th from the 9th, and one who blames others because he is the 2nd lord in the 2nd from the 7th. In the 9th: betrays dharma, atheist, takes others' money — and the "wicked wife" is read as a wife of harsh, aggressive speech, her 2nd lord being in her 3rd.

BPHS Ch.24 — 8th Lord in Houses 10–12: No Paternal Happiness + Career Instability (10H), Sad in Youth Happy in Old Age + Long Life if Benefic (11H), Adharmic Spending + Viparita for Tensions + Good for Sadhana (12H) & 8L Argala = Longevity from 6H/9H/11H/12H

Parāśara's verses for the 8th lord in the 10th, 11th and 12th houses. In the 10th: no happiness from father, because the 12th lord from the 9th has argala on the 9th; instability in career when no benefic aspects. In the 11th: no money if malefics join; unhappy in childhood and happy in old age — from the 10th taken as lagna he is the 11th lord in the 2nd; long life with a benefic, because he has argala on the 8th and on lagna, though the life is one of tension. The teacher extends the argala reason to the 8th lord in the 6th and 9th. In the 12th: spending on adharma and a possibility of short life, more so with a malefic; read as Viparīta Yoga it lets tensions go and favours sādhana, and with a benefic the secondary argala on the 8th can give medium or long life.

Mother's Health (1953): D12 Karaka-Lagna + 6L by House = Foot Problems Confirmed & the native (1984): D24 Rectification, Mercury-Jupiter Parivartana D9 = Happy Marriage, TP 9/10/11L in 7H = 2010 Marriage Year

Two charts worked in class. First, a mother's illness read from her son's chart: in D-12 the graha ārūḍha of the 4th lord (L4, Aquarius) is taken as her lagna; the running Mercury antardaśā is her 8th lord with Ketu on her lagna lord, so the trouble is long-term, to 2012. The 2008–09 Tithi Praveśa D-12 shows her foot complaint only after the birth time is taken back 40 seconds — the Moon then is a māraka exalted in the 12th from L4 — and the 4th from the Moon in D-12 confirms it. Second, a woman of 24 whose matches keep breaking: D-24 will not show her computer-science degree until the time is moved back 3 min 40 s, which also changes the navāṁśa. The new navāṁśa has lagna lord Mercury in the 7th exchanging with 7th lord Jupiter in the 4th — a happy marriage, given by Mercury's daśā, which has not yet begun. Navāṁśa Nārāyaṇa Daśā and the 2009–10 Tithi Praveśa place it in January–June 2010, Mercury's period strongest.

Two charts read in class on 4 May 2009. The 1969 native has boss trouble, has just hit a cyclist and been taken to court, and wants to move back to India. The teacher chooses Ṣaṣṭihāyanī daśā over Śatābdikā by testing it on past events, then reads Sun–Moon varga by varga: in D-10 the Moon is the debilitated 5th lord in the 9th with Rahu and the 8th lord Venus (boss trouble, loss of peace); in D-4 he is the 5th lord in lagna (pull to the motherland) but eclipsed by the 12th lord Rahu; in D-16 he is the debilitated 6th lord in A8 (vehicle accident); in D-6 he is the 11th lord in the 6th (a court case he can win). Two Tithi Praveśa charts rectify the birth time by 30 seconds and place the likely closure of the case in the Mars period, September 2009 — Harṣa Yoga. The 1955 native faces a layoff round: in the annual D-10 the year lord Mars is the 6th lord in the 7th — loss of service — and his period runs 8 June to 4 July 2009. The coming Mercury daśā (8th lord exalted in the 8th, lord of ārūḍha lagna) is judged good after an unsettled start.

BPHS Ch.24 — 11th Lord in Houses 1–3: Sattvic + Wealthy + Equal Vision (1H), All Wealth + Philanthropic + Fighter for Dharma (2H), Master of Skills + Stomach Problems (3H) & Why 3rd/6th/11th Lords Are Binding (Functional Malefics)

Parāśara's verses on the 11th lord in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd houses, parsed word by word. The method: take the house of the matter as lagna and see which lord the 11th lord is from there and where it sits. In lagna, "sāttvika" means friendly and gentle, not the guṇa; steady emotions come from the 7th lord in the 9th counted from the 5th; wealth that keeps circulating from the 10th lord in the 12th counted from the 2nd. In the 2nd he is a giver through a Viparīta Rāja Yoga from both the 12th and the 9th house, and a fighter for dharma. In the 3rd the stomach suffers because he is the māraka 7th lord from the 5th with argala on it — and the rule is general for any body part. The page ends with why the 3rd, 6th and 11th lords (not the 8th) are functional malefics: they are houses that bind.

Parāśara's verses on the 11th lord in the 4th, 5th and 6th houses. In the 4th he uses the mother as his resource: the native gains through her, while she herself suffers because he is the 8th lord in lagna counted from the 4th; the same fact gives many houses, frequent moves and sudden gains. In the 5th the children are happy, learned and well-behaved, and the native is dharma-rata — the 3rd lord in the 9th counted from the 9th — though one child can suffer in the daśā because he is a māraka from the 5th. In the 6th the other face of the 11th house shows: it is Hara-sthāna, the 6th from the 6th, so its lord in the house of disease gives disease. The lord of friends in the house of enemies makes a ruthless fighter whose friends turn enemies, and as a māraka to the 5th house of motherland he sends the person abroad.

BPHS chapter 24 on the 12th lord in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd houses, each result derived by taking the house concerned as lagna. In lagna: spendthrift by nature, weak, Kapha disease (the natural 12th is Pisces and the feet store water — but check the actual planet), no wealth (11th lord in the 12th from the 2nd) and no learning (8th lord in the 9th from the 5th). In the 2nd: spending that is wise investment, a fighter for dharma because the 2nd is the 6th from the 9th, humble speech, happiness. In the 3rd: trouble with siblings seen from the native's own lagna, many enemies, and humility lost to the fire of the 3rd. A girl born in 1994 (Gemini lagna) who never took to studies. One minute decides the D24 lagna: Scorpio gives a strong education chart that does not fit her, Libra fits. With Libra, the lagna lord Venus is combust with the bādhaka lord, yogakāraka Saturn is aspected by Jupiter from maraṇa kāraka sthāna and by māraka Mars, Rāhu as 5th lord is in the 12th, and A4 is in a dusthāna from AL. Mercury daśā and Saturn antardaśā both activate the 8th from A4, so formal education may stop; Ketu daśā and the D4 point to study abroad. For the mind, the rāśi chart and D16 both put the lagna lord with Saturn and the 6th lord: depression under surface aggression, a Vāta picture. Remedies are Veṅkaṭeśvara, the Vijaya Gaṇapati mantra above all, and a diamond. The second half of the 12th lord in BPHS chapter 24 (Santhanam edition, from verse 139): the 12th lord in houses 7 to 12, each result derived by taking the house in question as lagna. In the 7th: expenses on the spouse, no marital happiness (6th lord in lagna from the 7th), a weak body (he aspects lagna) and no learning — with the teacher's point that Viparīta Rāja Yoga can bring sudden money but never sudden scholarship. In the 8th: gains, soft speech, medium life and all good qualities, with a thumb rule for longevity from planets in the 8th that he calls unreliable for prediction. In the 9th: dissatisfaction with the guru (or humble service to him), enmity with friends, and svārtha-sādhana read as "achieves what he set out to do", not "selfish". In the 10th: a larger share of earnings spent on keeping up one's position at work, and little happiness from the father. In the 11th: gains that leak, and sometimes money a friend or elder brother has saved. In the 12th: expenses, a weak body and open hostility — or Vimala Yoga and humility, when the planet is strong and has no stake in the 6th.

Graha Yuddha: When the Lagna Lord Loses to a Maraka in the 8th

Graha yuddha — planetary war — between a lagna lord and a maraka in the 8th house, eleven arc minutes apart. The rule the class draws from it: a lagna lord defeated in graha yuddha is a fundamental weakness, and in the dasha of the planet that lost, the winner does what he wants — the time is his. Here the winner is the 7th and 2nd lord, an enemy, so the lagna lord's own dasha is run by the maraka. Beside it, the Trimsamsa (D-30) test for a mind under siege: Moon (manas) or Mercury (buddhi) afflicted by Saturn, Rahu or Ketu. That is a standing weakness; three dashas — Vimshottari, Chaturashiti Sama and the D-30 Paryāya Dasha — show which combination is giving results now. The Saptamsa is read for children (Rahu in the 5th as badhaka lord). The Navamsa is read for the first marriage from the 7th, the second from the 2nd and the third from the 9th, each taken as lagna, with the 2nd, 8th and 12th from the Upapada for marriage in general. Two Tithi Praveśa charts show a bad natal combination repeating on the lagna of the year, and then a better year with a window for marriage.

An undergraduate who left pre-med for math and biology: which suits him? Rasi has six planets on the 4th–10th axis, with the 4th lord Sun in gaṇḍānta half a degree from Ketu, yet sitting at the entry of his own house and separating from Ketu. The D-24 lagna is on a border; Saturn daśā gave top-of-class schooling, which fits Cancer (Saturn with lagna lord Moon, yogakāraka from the 4th), so the time moves from 11:37 to 11:36 PM. Taurus against Aries rasi lagna is settled by his speech and temperament and by the father seen in D-12. In D-24 Sun, 2nd lord with Rahu and Ketu, aspects the 9th of the bachelor's degree; in D-10 Rahu in his own 2nd house is aspected by Sun and Ketu from the 8th. The same Sun–Rahu–Ketu combination in three charts points to surgery, with math possible but not career-defining. Career is judged average (lagna lord Venus debilitated, Sun in gaṇḍānta), with business advised in Venus daśā from about 47. Remedies: no ruby, propitiate Sun, a diamond for Venus.

A worked prasna on hand and shoulder pain: Libra lagna 6°42', September 9, 2009. Jupiter aspecting lagna lord Venus almost exactly makes it a genuine prasna. Navamsa shows the background (mixed, not chronic), Rasi the affliction (6th lord Jupiter aspecting Venus on the Rahu-Ketu axis; Badhaka lord Sun in the Badhakasthana with Argala; Gulika in lagna; Maraka Mars with a partial aspect), and Drekkana the future (Mars in lagna, Sun exalted as Badhaka lord in the 7th, Venus aspected by Saturn and Jupiter). The nerve diagnosis comes from the roga pada A6, lorded by Mars, and from taking Mars as lagna: 7th lord Jupiter debilitated in the 8th, and Mercury with 8th lord Saturn. Sun and Mars make it Pitta, not Vata, so the herbs are Shankhpushpi and Brahmi in milk, with Lakshmi and Hanuman as the propitiation. Vimshottari compressed to one year gives improvement till October 3 and an unfavourable stretch till March 22; the added longevity question is refused.

Saturn’s transit is judged from the Dasamsa Moon as well as the Rasi Moon. For about three years Saturn was in the 8th from this native’s Rasi Moon at 28° Sagittarius (Aṣṭama Śani) and, after 5° Leo, in the 1st from lagna; in the last two of those years he was also in the 12th from the Dasamsa Moon at 12° Virgo — the seven and a half years of Saturn counted for career. The method: take the transit in the zodiac, take the Navamsa Moon or Dasamsa Moon as the reference; a person does not suffer in every area of life at once. The second half judges gemstones the same way, across Rasi, Dasamsa, Navamsa and Hora: Jupiter’s yellow sapphire, which the native wears, is “worth praying to but not worth wearing”; Saturn’s stone would help career and harm health; ruby and red coral are rejected; diamond for Venus is the choice.

BPHS chapter 29, verses 16–23. A planet in the 12th from Arudha Lagna gives many expenses and also much earning, because it has argala on the 11th; a functional benefic (śubha) brings the money by a good path and a functional malefic (pāpa) by a bad one, and the teacher takes “functional” from the Arudha pada. Then the planet-by-planet results: Venus, Sun or Rahu (and the Moon especially) spend on account of the king, Mercury on relatives, an aspected Jupiter on taxes and on himself, Saturn with Mars on brothers; the same combinations in the 11th become sources of gain. Last, why Rahu or Ketu in the 7th from AL harms digestion: AL is the body, the nodes aspect it, have reversed argala on the 5th from AL, and are enemies of the Sun, kāraka of digestion.

BPHS Ch.29 verses 24–28 on the 7th and 2nd houses from Arudha Lagna. Verse 24: Ketu in the 7th from AL, joined or aspected by a papa graha, makes the person sahasi (seen as bold, acting on impulse), sveta keshi (white hair — he looks older; Ketu is a Pitta planet) and vrddhalingi (strong, erratic desires). The verse also settles a term: papa must mean functional malefic, because Rahu, a natural malefic, always aspects Ketu and the condition would otherwise be empty. Verse 25: Jupiter, Venus or Moon in the 7th from AL gives wealth, even one of them. Verse 26: any exalted planet there, functional benefic or malefic, gives wealth and good fame — provided it dominates the house. Verses 27–28 carry the wealth yogas (not the physical traits) to the 2nd from AL, where an exalted Mercury, Jupiter or Venus gives wealth; Moon and Mercury count only while they are natural benefics.

Saptamsa reading for two daughters. D-7 lagna is Cancer, an even sign, so the children are counted backwards: the first from Pisces (Jupiter alone, which points to a boy), but Mercury falls in the 1st house from Jupiter and the birth came in Jupiter–Mercury, so the neutral planet turned it to a girl (Dec 19, 2005). The second is from Capricorn: Moon and Ketu in the 1st house from its lord Saturn give a girl (Oct 1, 2008, Jupiter–Venus, Venus on the 8th cusp from Saturn). Both births are checked in the Tithi Pravesha saptamsa. A third child would come from Scorpio, across the Saturn–Ketu–Moon group with no Jupiter to protect, and with Ketu, Moon and Saturn in the 2nd from Scorpio — very little chance, and a risk of abortion. Ishta Devata is taken from the 12th from Atmakaraka in the Vimsamsa, not the navamsa: Saturn in Capricorn, closely aspected by Mars and by debilitated Venus, gives a warrior form of the Mother — Chandi, Chamundeshwari. A health chart given as 5:30 AM ± 5 minutes, with the navāṁśa lagna about to change 20 seconds later. The marriage of October 1961 is tested in three daśās: Śatābdika from the vargottama lagna gives Mercury–Moon (Upapada lord and 9th lord, with the 10th lord Moon in the navāṁśa), Vimśottarī gives Mercury–Saturn (Saturn aspects the 7th in rāśi and sits in the 7th from lagna and Venus in the navāṁśa), while Ṣaṣṭihāyanī gives Jupiter–Jupiter and is dropped. The daśāṁśa then moves the time back to 5:28: at 5:30 the 10th lord is the Sun with Rāhu, a surgeon; at 5:28 the 10th lord Moon joins the 9th lord Mercury — the Vaiśya planets, a salesman with a good career. The cancer of 2009 read from the ṣaṣṭhāṁśa (D-6, Aries lagna). It surfaced in Vimśottarī Mars–Jupiter: Jupiter sits in the 12th with the 6th lord Mercury under the aspect of the 8th lord Mars, so the 6th, 8th and 12th lords meet on the 6th–12th axis. The teacher's observation from cancer charts: Rāhu and Ketu, as bad lords, afflict the lagna, 6th or 8th of the D-6 — here the bādhaka lord Rāhu and the 8th lord Ketu are in the lagna. The antardaśās ahead are weighed one by one (Saturn, Mercury, Ketu the worst, Venus from February 2012 relatively better), and Śatābdika agrees on spring 2012 through the Sun antardaśā. On gemstones: a running daśā is no reason to wear a planet's stone — if the planet is ill-disposed you propitiate him, you do not wear him. Red coral and cat's eye are to be removed, ruby and emerald avoided, diamond is the only safe stone, and the remedy is Hanumān.

BPHS Ch.30 verses 17-22 read the spouse's health from planets in the Upapada or in the 2nd from it: Ketu + Venus give blood disorders, Mercury + Ketu bone problems, Saturn + Rahu + Sun fevers, Mercury + Rahu a stout body, Mars + Saturn in a sign of Mercury or Mars breathing disease, Jupiter + Saturn trouble with hearing, Mercury + Mars or Jupiter + Rahu dental problems, Saturn + Rahu Vāta disorders. The teacher shows that Parāśara is using the planets as elements here, not as the seven dhātus: Venus is water, Mercury earth, the Sun fire, Saturn air, while Rahu, Ketu and Saturn deplete whatever they join. He works out why Mars + Saturn harms breathing (a strong Mars with a 6th or 8th house link afflicting Saturn, the planet of air), flags two places where the text looks corrupt, and ends with Parāśara's disclaimer: a functional benefic's aspect or conjunction cancels the result.

The same Virgo-lagna chart, for the two pregnancies lost in 2007 and 2009. The teacher points to the 5th lord and Jupiter in the 12th house, and to Rahu — the 6th lord, in gaṇḍānta at the very start of Leo — afflicting Jupiter from 8 degrees away (Jupiter 8°11', Rahu 0°27'). These placements are in the rāśi chart; in the D-7 as cast Jupiter is in the 7th house. He singles out the rāśi daśā of 2018-2027, whose 5th from Virgo is Capricorn with four planets in the 8th from it. In D-20 (Libra lagna), Mercury as 9th lord in the 10th house makes the running Mercury daśā a time to follow dharma and religion, and lagna lord Venus in the 4th gives peace and direction through the religious life. He also marks out the 12th house from the Ātmakāraka Rahu, counted backwards from Rahu's longitude; the recording breaks before any conclusion.

A verse-by-verse reading of BPHS Ch.30 from the second half of verse 24 to verse 38. Parashara gives 18 references — Lagna, Arudha Lagna and Upapada, the 1st or 7th from each, the house or its lord, and the lord's amsa — and leaves it to us which to use. Children are read from the 9th from the reference: Sun, Jupiter and Rahu give many; Saturn, Moon and Mercury deny; the Moon alone gives one; Mars with Saturn gives an adopted or a brother's child. Then the Upapada in Leo or Virgo, and why childbirth is also judged from navāṁśa and triṁśāṁśa. Siblings are read from the 3rd and 11th: Saturn with Rahu, Saturn with Mars, Saturn alone and Venus destroy; Moon, Jupiter, Mercury and Mars give; Ketu gives sisters. BPHS chapter 33, verses 12 to 22: the results of planets in Karkamsa, the sign the Atmakaraka occupies in a divisional chart. Parashara does not name the chart; pick it by the matter (Navamsa for marriage and dharma, Dasamsa for work, D24 for knowledge, D30 for evils). The class reads each planet in turn: Atmakaraka in a varga of Moon, Mars or Venus, then Sun, full Moon, strong Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, Rahu and Ketu. The teacher insists that Karkamsa gives the instinct and the vasanas, not the profession, which is read from Lagna; and that the Atmakaraka in the lagna of a divisional chart makes the person fortunate in that area. It ends with Sun and Rahu together in Karkamsa, read in D30: fear of snakes, a doctor if they are in benefic shadvargas, and fire when Mars alone aspects, which Mercury or Venus prevents and Jupiter cannot prevent in a malefic sign.

A 32-year-old man with fourth-stage lung cancer, given three to four months by his doctors, whose chart other astrologers had passed as safe. The birth time is first rectified to 3:24:36 AM (±14 seconds) by testing marriage, a daughter, the move abroad and the first job in Vimshottari on the Navamsa, Saptamsa, Chaturthamsa and Dasamsa, and again in each year's Tithi Pravesha chart. The disease is read in Trimshamsa: Scorpio rises, and the 8th lord Mercury sits there within 2° of Rahu, with Ketu and Gulika, in the 12th house by longitude. In the Rasi, Taurus lagna has Gulika within half a degree and Rahu's 98.7% aspect, with no benefic aspect to relieve it. The three longevity pairs give middle life. Rahu-Ketu antardasha from June 2010 to June 2011 is the maraka period, both from Lagna and from the Moon, with July 2010 the peak by the annual chart; Venus, the lagna lord, can give recovery from July 2011 if he survives.

How the remedy for the cancer case is chosen. The lagna lord Venus is an absent landlord, since his dasha is not running; the troublemaker is Mercury, the 8th lord of Trimshamsa, tightly joined by Rahu in Scorpio. Mercury is reached through Vishnu, and a Martian sign with Rahu calls for a fierce form: Ugra Narasimha, with the 32-letter Mantra-raja pada mantra offered in fire a few lakh times over eight days from Tuesday to Tuesday, or a Sudarshana homa. Gems are rejected: a purchase cannot push off a major karma, and a diamond for the lagna lord could quicken death because Venus is a maraka in Trimshamsa. The teacher then explains why most priests get no result, why the family should chant the one mantra themselves, how a fierce devata works fast with some suffering spilling on the one who does the sadhana, and why attachment to a son's life does not spoil it.

BPHS chapter 33, verses 23 to 31: what Gulika and Ketu give in the Karakāṁśa, and what the 2nd house from it shows. Gulika there with the full Moon aspecting makes a thief whose own money is stolen by thieves; with no aspect, hardship and death by poison; with Mercury aspecting, many children. Ketu there gives ear disease under a malefic, initiation under Venus, inability to beget under Mercury and Saturn, a servant maid’s son under Mercury and Venus, penance under Saturn, the mere robes of a sannyāsī under Saturn alone, and service at the king’s court under Sun and Venus. For each verse the teacher works out which divisional chart it belongs to (D-30, D-7, D-20, D-12, D-10) and why the planets give that result. The 2nd from Karakāṁśa in a sign of Venus or Mars shows interest in others’ spouses, which Ketu restrains and Jupiter does not; Rahu there loses money. Verse 23 also settles that Mandi and Gulika are one upagraha.

How to read a person’s Ayurvedic constitution from the chart. Kapha is shown by Jupiter, Venus and the full Moon; Pitta by Sun, Mars and Ketu; Vata by Saturn, Rahu and the dark Moon; Mercury takes the dosha of his company. The body is read from Lagna — its sign, planets in the 1st house, the Lagna lord, and above all the computed percentage aspects on the Lagna degree, where the top one or two planets above 75% decide. A Gemini-lagna woman (1965): Jupiter in the 1st gives Kapha, but Mars at 95% and Mercury at 87% on Lagna make her about 70% Pitta, and the mind is Pitta with some Kapha as well; the teacher lists the food that suits Pitta with Kapha. Parāśara’s verses on the 3rd, 4th and 5th from Karakamsa (BPHS Ch.33, v.32–38), with the teacher’s reasons for each. 3rd: a functional malefic makes the native brave, a functional benefic timid, in whichever divisional chart is being read; his own D-20 is the example. 4th, in D-4: Moon or Venus gives a palace, Saturn or Rahu an ordinary house, Mars or Ketu brick (engineered, high-tech), Jupiter wood, Sun grass, and Moon again an open place — all read as the attitude to one’s house, not the building. 5th, in D-30: the 12th from the 6th is loss of the fight, so Mars or Rahu there gives tuberculosis and other infections (certain when a weak Moon aspects), Mars boils, Ketu dysentery and water-borne disease, Rahu or Gulika black magic and poison. A woman born in 1982 (Scorpio lagna 6°36′), married in May 2006 and unable to conceive. Before reading the Saptamsa the teacher tests the birth time. The marriage in Rahu–Rahu–Jupiter fits the Leo navamsa lagna (Rahu is 7th lord in the 7th; Jupiter is 7th lord from debilitated Venus), and the Tithi Pravesha of 2005 gives it in Mercury–Mercury, Mercury being the exalted Upapada lord in the 7th house of that year’s Navamsa. In D24 Mercury dominates the 9th house and A9, so the bachelor’s is in computer science; Mars–Venus, the 3rd and 2nd lords from A9, end it, which is completion and not harm. Mercury alone in the 2nd house continues the same subject for the master’s. Together these hold the time to 17 seconds later and 1.5 minutes earlier. The Saptamsa is then very weak: Jupiter debilitated in the 8th, the 5th lord Venus in the 6th house and the 2nd lord Moon in the 8th house, both Marana Karaka Sthana. Houses are counted from the lagna’s degree throughout.

With a Saptamsa this weak, only the dasha can help. Rahu–Mercury (to March 2016) is preferred to Rahu–Saturn: Mercury is the D7 lagna lord and sits in the 9th house from Venus, the lord of the first child’s house. Of the Tithi Pravesha charts for 2013, 2014 and 2015, only 2015 is strong: its Saptamsa has the lagna, 5th and 9th lords all in own signs, and Putra Sahama there is aspected by Mars and Jupiter. The year’s own dashas point to January–March 2016. Transits for January 2016 add that Rahu, the dasha lord, aspects his own natal D7 position within a degree, and that Jupiter and Rahu at 29° Leo aspect the progressed Moon of the Vimshottari progression. But the Moon is the 2nd lord in the 8th house of the natal Saptamsa: an addition to the family, not a birth. The teacher gives a 40–50% chance of conceiving and suspects adoption. The remedy is Vishnu Sahasranama with the Santana Gopala mantra between the shlokas, 11 times on one day every week for two to three years.

Then the bādhaka lord: 11th lord for a movable lagna, 9th for a fixed one, 7th for a dual one. The teacher takes a planet that owns the 4th and 11th, is the bādhakeśa and sits in the 2nd, and asks why it gave a stay in hospital. His point: hospitalization needs a link with the 12th house; bādhakeśa in a māraka house does not explain it alone.

A health question on a 9:35 PM chart whose date is lost: Rahu in the 12th, Venus with an 87.9% aspect on the lagna and Jupiter beside it give a kapha-vāta constitution (75–80% kapha); problems fall in Jupiter daśā in the upper body; the remedy is Sadāśiva and the Tryambakam mantra; one planet is weighed as 9th lord in the rāśi and as a māraka in the divisional charts. A praśna on a student's mother: she will be fine in the long run, and the querent may travel. Then the student's own chart of 1961: Sun daśā 2013–2019 is an average era, Mercury is a māraka, and hospitalization needs a 12th-house link.

In the rāśi chart the 10th lord Mercury is in the 2nd, 4° from Ketu, the 3rd lord — the 6th lord counted from the 10th. In the D-10 (Scorpio lagna, houses counted from the lagna degree) the 10th lord Sun is in the 12th, his maraṇa kāraka sthāna, less than 1° from Saturn, the malefic 3rd and 4th lord: "a terrible, terrible daśāṁśa". With no planet in the 10th and a weak lord, the field is read from the strongest aspects on the 10th — Venus 99% from Aquarius and Saturn 89% — giving a small own business in decorative plants, herbs or landscaping, with Jupiter–Venus as the good period. The depression is read from D-30, where Moon and Saturn share Taurus and Jupiter is a malefic from lagna and from Moon; it came in Jupiter–Saturn. Remedy: Āditya Hṛdayam three times a day and a simple Sūrya mantra, because Sun is the planet being hammered.

The 10th house is the knees: it is empty, aspected by the 12th lord Moon and the 6th lord Saturn, and its lord Venus sits in the 6th, his maraṇa kāraka sthāna, beside Saturn. D-30 decides the severity — Saturn, the bādhaka lord, in the 8th in Scorpio. The constitution is read from aspects on lagna (pitta-dominant, tridoṣic) and on Moon (kapha mind), and the knee condition comes out hot and dry: vāta with some pitta. The teacher gives Yogarāja guggulu, a fennel–licorice tea, an oil for the knees, a diet without heating spices, and Saturn mantras or Hanumān Cālīsā. A two-month-old girl with heavy skin rashes, Scorpio lagna, running Jupiter dasha. Jupiter is a benefic for Scorpio, so the affliction has to be found: in rasi he disposits Rahu in the 2nd and is aspected by Sun and Saturn, and in Trimshamsha, where suffering is seen, he is the 8th lord in the 12th house and the dispositor of the 6th lord and the badhaka lord. Moon antardasha will be worse than the running Sun antardasha. Mandi very close to the lagna shows toxins in the body and a lifelong sensitivity to chemicals; the lagna and its lord Mars make it a pitta condition, so coconut oil, not sesame. The propitiation is Narasimha, who removes poisons: his bija, and Lakshmi Narasimha in the baby's room. The class ends by taking the 7th house of the grandmother's Punya Chakra as lagna and comparing it with the child's chart; the key combinations do not repeat, so a rebirth is not indicated.

A 79-year-old man (Scorpio lagna, born 1931) hospitalised again and again in the middle of Mercury daśā. Rāśi: Mercury is the 8th lord of chronic disease placed in the 9th, the bādhaka sthāna — a link between the 6th or 8th lord and the bādhaka sthāna is bad for health. Triṁśāṁśa (Pisces lagna): Mercury is 7th lord and bādhaka lord, and the 8th house, Libra — kidneys and the urinary system — holds Mars with an exalted Saturn who is 11th and 12th lord: "at his favourite party", and the one who wants to trouble you. The antardaśās are read from D-30 and D-6: Mars gives no relief, Rāhu on the lagna brings surgery in March 2011 – September 2013, Jupiter some relief, and Saturn — 3rd lord in the 2nd, 7th and 8th lord from Mercury — is the māraka period of 2015–2018. In the Viṁśāṁśa (Libra lagna) the same Mercury is 9th and 12th lord, so the daśā that is hard on the body is the one for sādhana; the remedy is Viṣṇu Sahasranāma. The class closes by testing the birth time against his career in the D-10: exalted Sun for political office, Mars in the 6th for land.

The D7 is read for the timing of children. With Leo lagna, Jupiter (5th lord in own sign) and Mars (yogakaraka in the 9th) are the planets that can give children, the Sun aspects lagna as lagna lord, and Venus is the spoiler. D7 Vimshottari: Rahu until April 2011 gives hardly any chance; Jupiter–Jupiter, to May 2013, a very strong one. The Capricorn Char Dasha has its lord in it and the exalted Moon in its 5th, and the transit rule for the dasha sign lord is given. The annual charts are then compared: the 2011 Tajika D7 points to April–May 2012 through Mars, but on hearing that she was already in her third month the teacher opens the 2010 chart, finds lagna lord Mars and 5th lord Jupiter exchanged, and guesses the birth will come before July 22, 2011. The lesson ends with the male-child rule and the suggestion of Shiva worship.

A man born in 1974 married in February 2002, had a son in November 2007 after a long wait, and has had an unstable career ever since. The two known events are checked first: Rāhu gave the marriage because he links with the 7th from lagna, Moon and Sun in the Navāṁśa; and the child came in Jupiter–Saturn, not Jupiter–Jupiter, because in the Saptāṁśa Saturn sits in the 5th from lagna and aspects the 5th house and 5th lord from Moon, while the kāraka Jupiter has only weak links. The child's chart has Saṅkrānti doṣa, and in its D-12 the running Rāhu daśā shows losses for the father until 2017 — but the teacher insists this only adds to what the father's own chart must already show. That is Jupiter in the D-10: a functional malefic afflicting the debilitated lagna lord Venus from all three references. Mercury antardaśā, the 2011–12 Tājaka chart and Jupiter's station opposite the D-10 lagna degree all point to a job in December–January, or by March–April.

The D-10 is what rectifies this chart. The good job of June 2005 came in Rāhu–Ketu, in the Saturn or Mercury pratyantardaśā. Mercury and Saturn form a rāja yoga from Sun and from Moon but nothing from the Leo D-10 lagna, so the teacher adds 3½ minutes: the D-10 lagna becomes Virgo, joins the Moon, and the yoga holds from all three references. The Rāśi lagna stays Aries. The rectified D-24 lagna, Leo, then explains the move to a good college in August 2001 through Jupiter, the 5th lord in lagna. In D-3 the 11th house is taken as the elder sister's lagna to read her marriage (Moon–Rāhu) and her child (Moon–Jupiter). In Rāśi the kidney infection of May 2008 came in Moon–Saturn: Saturn is the bādhaka lord in the 7th house and closely aspects Moon, Sun and lagna.

The 2008 kidney infection read in D-6 and D-30. In D-6, Ketu daśā had just begun: Ketu sits with Saturn and both 8th lords in the 11th from Cancer, which in Ṣaṣṭhāṁśa is read as the bādhaka sthāna and not as the house of gains. For D-30 the teacher first changes a software setting: uncheck "Map each 1 degree in Rasi to 30 degrees in D30", so each unequal part of the sign is prorated as a whole. The D-30 daśā is then Sun–Mercury, and Mercury is the bādhaka lord in the bādhaka sthāna aspecting the 6th and 8th lords in lagna. The health outlook follows, then the D-12 question of the maternal grandfather, which the teacher leaves open because the 9th from the 4th is not consistent. The reading ends with marriage timing in D-9 (Vimśottarī, Chara daśā, Jupiter and node transits, the 2011 Tithi Praveśa), children in D-7, and Durgā as the remedy for a weak Amāvāsyā Moon.

The teacher sets aside the lagna lord in the 8th with debilitated Mercury and the Moon–Mars conjunction, and names Moon as the problem: in gaṇḍānta at the end of Cancer, in Ashlesha (a Sarpa nakshatra) and a Sarpa drekkāṇa, and his own Śubhapati. By the lagna ±15° rule Moon is in the 1st house, not the 12th. D-30 has Moon debilitated in the 8th under the bādhaka lord Saturn's aspect; D-27 has Moon with Rahu in Rahu's own sign. The praśna has a pāpa kartari on lagna from two retrograde malefics, countered by a Jupiter–Venus rāja yoga. Two uses of D-20. First, the teacher's own practice with a praśna: in the D-20 of the praśna chart the 5th house shows the upāsana and the 9th house the divine help for the one issue asked about. For the child's praśna, 9th lord Moon is exalted in the 7th and aspects lagna, so Gauri or Chamunda — the same deity the natal chart gave. Second, the family deity from the 2nd house of the natal D-20: in the 1985 chart the known deity, Venkateswara, is used to choose between two D-20 lagnas, and Rahu in Aquarius aspecting the 2nd settles it. A man born in 1970 asks in March 2012 whether his critically ill father will survive the year. The teacher moves the time back 30 seconds so that D-12 has Scorpio rising and reads the 9th house, Cancer, as the father’s lagna: Ketu in its 10th for a railway clerk, Saturn in it for drink. Saturn is that lagna’s 7th and 8th lord and aspects his own 7th house, a strong māraka; the saying that Saturn will not kill is wrong. D-12 Vimśottarī brings Mars–Saturn from August 2012 and Chaturaśīti Sama daśā (10th lord in the 10th) brings Sun–Saturn from May 2012. The 2012 annual chart is worse for the father than the 2013 one, and a praśna does not contradict, so the call is the second half of 2012. The class ends on what to tell someone near the end: no remedies, keep the mind on one Devatā.

An Aries-lagna chart with a recorded birth time of 7:15 PM is rectified to 7:08 PM, each event closing the window a little: the body (Aries, not Taurus), the marriage, the career, the mother's death, the education. Marriage in August 1997: the natal Jupiter–Ketu period is possible, but the Tithi Pravesha chart of 1996 decides — its navamsa lagna must be Gemini, not Cancer, which makes the year's dasha lord Jupiter the 7th lord in the 5th house; the D-9 Vimshottari gives Jupiter–Venus, Venus being the 6th lord debilitated in the natal navamsa and in the 9th from Jupiter. The D-10 lagna of the example is moved from Capricorn to Sagittarius: Moon and Ketu in the 10th from Capricorn do not show a man who writes and manages application software, while Sagittarius puts the 10th lord Mercury in the lagna. The D-10 Vimshottari then fails — Saturn, a malefic 2nd and 3rd lord in the 9th, began in 2005 just as the career rose — so the teacher uses Dvisaptati Sama dasha, which applies because the 7th lord Mercury is in the D-10 lagna. Under it the 2005 gain falls in Mars–Rahu and Mars–Sun: Mars is the 5th lord in the 5th, in Aries, a prishthodaya sign, and gives his result at the end of his dasha. Moon dasha (1989–98) brought three changes of company; Mars and Mercury are the stable, good dashas. The native asks in 2012 whether his luck is over and whether to ease off: D-1 Saturn dasha in the 12th says the luck has peaked, but in D-10 Mercury–Rahu from June 2012 brings recognition, and a slowdown is only seen in Mercury–Moon, September 2014 to October 2015. The trouble is the dasha: Venus is the 3rd and 8th lord and the dispositor ("landlord") of the lagna lord, with the 6th lord Sun and bādhaka lord Mercury 12° away. In D30 (Capricorn lagna) the lagna lord Saturn is in the 6th and exchanges signs with the 6th lord Mercury, who sits in the lagna with the 8th lord Sun — a Duryoga, not a Raj Yoga, due in Saturn–Mercury. A stationary planet triggers the natal point it conjoins or aspects, in the rāśi chart or in the divisional chart of the matter. The orb is a couple of degrees, four at the most, and Jupiter and Saturn matter most. The page shows how to find a station in the software and the nimitta (a dog crying) that sent the teacher to Saturn. It then reads the rāśi chart of a native in coma for 60+ days (born 1989, Aquarius lagna): Jupiter daśā is a māraka daśā, but the antardaśā lord Rāhu is lagna lord in lagna and no māraka. The length of the suffering comes from gochara: the daśā lord Jupiter transits the 8th from natal Moon and the antardaśā lord Rāhu sits debilitated in the 2nd from Moon. Relief is timed to Jupiter entering Gemini about June 2013, the 9th from Moon and 5th from lagna.

The D-30 of the native in coma (Gemini lagna): the Moon, 2nd lord in the 7th, is a māraka under the 8th lord Saturn and the nodes, and his daśā is running. Saturn became stationary on 25 June 2012 at 28°44' Virgo; his 7th aspect falls within a degree and a half of D-30 Mars, the 6th lord, at 27°36' Pisces, and his 10th aspect reaches the D-30 lagna. The coma began about then. The next station, 18 February 2013 at about 17½° Libra, sits on the rāśi Moon and aspects the D-30 Moon within 2½°. The praśna (Capricorn lagna) shows survival: the lagna lord Saturn is exalted and falls in the 9th house by longitude, and the 9th lord Mercury aspects the lagna. The same 1974 chart read for career and health. D10 (Taurus lagna): the lagna is empty and aspected only by the 8th lord Jupiter, an enemy of the lagna lord, at about 90%; lagna lord Venus is within 3° of the 4th lord Sun, combust by an enemy. The 10th is not bad — its lords Rahu and Saturn are both touched by Jupiter, but Saturn is in a friendly sign — so the weak lagna and lagna lord are the cause of an unstable career, and a 10th lord’s dasha gave nothing because the chart itself is weak. Mercury dasha, 5th lord in the 6th with the 3rd lord Moon, gives service in short-term positions; the remedy is Vishnu Sahasranama. Rasi (Cancer lagna): debilitated Mars in lagna and a debilitated Purnima Moon in Scorpio with Rahu, aspected by Sun, make her about 70% Pitta and 30% Kapha. Excess Pitta dries the majja dhatu and overloads the nerves — sciatica — and two-thirds of it is in the mind. Rahu antardasha from 2013 looks worse, with relief around 2016 under Jupiter. The diet is light, dry and cooling, without ghee or milk and without starving; pranayama; Durga Saptashloki for health.

The five kośas and why breath sits between body and mind. Lagna controls the Annamaya Kośa (physical matter), Moon controls the Manomaya Kośa (mind), and the Prāṇamaya Kośa — the life force, of which breathing is the surface — is the connection between them. When prāṇa is depleted, breathing and the steadiness of the mind suffer together. The teacher then shows how to do anuloma-viloma prāṇāyāma: alternate nostrils, no holding, no sound, stop at 80–85% of a full breath, breathe out slowly, ten minutes a day — and explains the iḍā–piṅgalā push and pull that forceful breathing upsets. A student’s own chart: Leo lagna, born May 9, 1983, with recurring nose and respiratory trouble for a few months. The trouble did not start with Ketu mahādaśā in 2007 but recently, so the teacher looks to the antardaśā: Saturn, from April 2012. Saturn is the 6th and 7th lord, a functional malefic for Leo, an enemy of lagna lord Sun, and he aspects the Sun. The 6th shows things that come and go; the 8th, long-term disease — so this is not chronic. From the Moon in Pisces Saturn is the 11th and 12th lord in the 8th; a planet showing disease from both Lagna and Moon can be more serious. Saturn is the Vāyu planet, so the complaint is Vata. Before pacifying the current imbalance (vikṛti) find the native's basic nature (prakṛti), so the diet does not disturb it. In the example chart the nature is fire — Leo lagna, Sun exalted in Aries, Mars aspecting the lagna — but nothing fiery touches the 6th or 8th; the Vata planets Saturn (6th lord aspecting the lagna lord) and a waning Moon in the 8th do. So the dosha that troubles him is Vata. The diet: not dry, only mildly hot, yogurt and buttermilk to cool the system, mild spices (coriander, cumin, fennel, cardamom, cinnamon), moong dal, green beans and carrots; no chillies, black pepper or hing, no eggplant or okra, potato only if well cooked and not at night. And a tea of Haritaki and Daśamūla, boiled, stood for hours, filtered and drunk at night, which lifts Vata from the digestive tract fast.
