Example Chart — D7 Leo Lagna: Mars Yogakaraka(9L in Moolatrikona)+Jupiter(5L) = Best Planets for Children; Jupiter MD from April 2011=Strong Candidate; Capricorn Char Dasha=Lord in Own Sign+Exalted Moon in 5H; Tajika 2010=Jupiter(5L) in Lagna+Mars(LL) in 5H=Parivartana=Most Powerful Child Yoga; Confirmed: Conception March 2011; Delivery Aug-Sep 2011; Male Child Prediction
The D7 is read for the timing of children. With Leo lagna, Jupiter (5th lord in own sign) and Mars (yogakaraka in the 9th) are the planets that can give children, the Sun aspects lagna as lagna lord, and Venus is the spoiler. D7 Vimshottari: Rahu until April 2011 gives hardly any chance; Jupiter–Jupiter, to May 2013, a very strong one. The Capricorn Char Dasha has its lord in it and the exalted Moon in its 5th, and the transit rule for the dasha sign lord is given. The annual charts are then compared: the 2011 Tajika D7 points to April–May 2012 through Mars, but on hearing that she was already in her third month the teacher opens the 2010 chart, finds lagna lord Mars and 5th lord Jupiter exchanged, and guesses the birth will come before July 22, 2011. The lesson ends with the male-child rule and the suggestion of Shiva worship.
Key principle
Lagna lord Mars is in 5th house, 5th lord Jupiter is in lagna. Very powerful yoga between them. Compared to the next two years' charts, if you look at this Tajika chart, you can say, yes, this year can give a child.

The Case — Data and Events
Events given by the student
- Married August 26, 2007. Arranged in the normal way, not sudden. Her husband was already in the US.
- Came to the US December 22, 2007.
- Completed MCA (Master of Computer Applications) in mid-2008.
- Now works in software quality assurance at an insurance company.
- Her question: when will she have children?
How much can the time be trusted
- The question is about children, so the teacher looks at D7 first. The D7 lagna changes only if birth was 13 min 7 s earlier or 4 min 36 s later.
- Recorded birth times usually run a little late: people note the time afterwards. So the true time tends to lie before the given time, and backward there is plenty of room. The D7 lagna is mostly reliable.
- He still checks the time against the known events, one varga at a time, before predicting.
"If the Saptamsa lagna is not on a border, you can directly proceed to give a prediction also. But let us see."
A note on the charts shown on this page
- The class works with Surya Siddhanta positions. The chart drawn on this page gives the same D9 lagna (Leo), D7 lagna (Leo) and D4 lagna (Gemini) and most placements, but a few planets close to a division boundary fall one sign away from the class (Jupiter and Moon in D9; Mars and Jupiter in D7; Saturn and Venus in D4; Mars and the nodes in D24). The placements below are the ones the teacher reads out.
D7 (Saptamsa) — When Will She Have Children
D7 lagna: Leo.
Is the chart strong
- Lagna: only the Sun has a full aspect on it. Sun, the lagna lord, is in the 7th in Aquarius. Saturn is next to him and so a temporary friend; by compound relationship the sign is neutral. A kendra is not the best house for a cruel planet (3, 6, 11 are), but for the lagna lord a kendra or trine is a good placement. He aspects lagna and blesses it.
- Jupiter (5th and 8th lord): in his own sign Pisces, in the 8th house, alone. 5th lordship is benefic; the 8th follows the other house and the company, and he has no company. A clear benefic. That he sits in the 8th does not matter.
- Mars (9th lord, yogakaraka): in the 9th, in Moolatrikona (Aries), with Venus. A good planet by himself.
- Venus (3rd and 10th lord): with Mars. 9th and 10th lords together make a Dharma-Karmadhipati yoga, but Parashara does not rate the Mars–Venus yoga highly for Leo lagna, because Venus is a functional malefic. Mars dominates, being in his own sign. Venus is the main spoiler of the chart.
- Saturn (6th and 7th lord): 7th lordship is not bad, the 6th is. Overall a malefic. But he is in the 6th, in Capricorn, with Rahu. A malefic in a dusthana is well placed.
- Mercury: a functional malefic, in the 12th.
- Functional malefics sit in bad houses and good planets in good houses. A good chart.
- Planets that can give children: Jupiter and Mars above all, and the Sun as lagna lord aspecting lagna.
D7 Vimshottari
- Rahu Dasha runs until April 2011. Rahu is a badly placed malefic — acceptable, but he has little to do with children.
- Jupiter Dasha follows. Jupiter–Jupiter runs until May 2013.
"Until this April, there is hardly any chance. From then, two years, there is a very strong chance."
A conditional dasha, as an experiment
- Lagna lord in the 7th house: a conditional dasha applies (the name is garbled in the recording; the condition is that of Dwisaptati Sama Dasha). By it Rahu runs now and Sun–Sun in late 2012 to early 2013.
- The teacher has seen conditional dashas work in divisional charts in some examples but is not sure of them. He goes by Vimshottari.
D7 Char Dasha: Capricorn
- Capricorn dasha is running and lasts until 2020.
- In the natal D7 Capricorn has nothing to do with the 5th house.
- Taking Capricorn as lagna:
- Its lord Saturn is in it. The lord of the dasha sign in that sign, in Moolatrikona or in exaltation is good for the dasha.
- The 5th from it (Taurus) holds the exalted Moon. Exalted and Moolatrikona planets in the lagna or in the house of interest are a blessing.
- A student pointed to the 9th lord's aspect. From Capricorn that is Mercury, also 6th lord — a neutral planet; his aspect is of no special interest.
- There is a chance, but this is not a crystal-clear case.
- Transit rule (Parashara): if the dasha sign's lord is in own sign, Moolatrikona or exaltation — in the natal chart or in transit — good events can be given.
- So Saturn's transit must be good at the birth. Venus matters too: from Capricorn he is the 5th lord and yogakaraka. Jupiter is the karaka and an important planet in the natal D7.
- His first estimate: Saturn in Libra (exalted), Jupiter in Taurus (5th from Capricorn), and Venus well placed with respect to Capricorn. Libra is a better candidate than Virgo. The Moon's transit changes daily and is not used for this.
- For Tajika charts he does not use Char Dasha at all.
Tajika 2011–12, D7
- Its D7 lagna holds from 13 minutes earlier to 4½ minutes later. Lagna: Cancer.
- Jupiter (6th and 9th lord, neutral) is exalted in lagna; he is karaka for children. Mercury, a clear malefic, is also in lagna.
- Saturn (7th and 8th lord, neutral or slightly benefic) is in the 12th. Venus (4th and 11th lord, malefic) is in the 6th — well placed, but showing nothing.
- Moon (lagna lord) and Sun (2nd lord, benefic by Moon's company) are in the 8th, in an enemy sign; Moon is in marana karaka sthana. They cannot give children.
- Rahu is alone in the 5th. Ignore his 8th lordship; he is in a trine without company, so a benefic. His dispositor Mars aspects him. Mars is the yogakaraka and owns and aspects the 5th house — the one planet in the chart that is fully auspicious.
- Compressed D7 Vimshottari: Mars Dasha runs April 17 to May 9, 2012. On this chart alone, April–May 2012 is a strong chance. Jupiter, 9th lord exalted in lagna, may also give, less strongly.
- The 2012–13 chart was checked too and was not interesting.
The student's news
- The student who brought the chart had told the couple "sometime before 2013". Two days before the class they told him she had conceived and was in the third month. The birth was expected around August–September 2011.
- Rasi transit for mid-August 2011, from the Char Dasha sign Capricorn: Saturn is in Virgo — not exalted, but the dasha sign's lord in a trine, the 9th. Rahu is in the 11th, aspecting the 5th. In the natal D7 Rahu sits in the dasha sign with Saturn and counts as a benefic from Capricorn, so his aspect on the 5th fits.
Tajika 2010–11, D7 — the year already running
- The 2011 chart showed a child, but not strongly. That made the teacher open the 2010 chart, which nobody had looked at because the question had been about the coming years.
- In its D7 the lagna lord Mars is in the 5th house and the 5th lord Jupiter is in lagna (Scorpio lagna). An exchange between lagna lord and 5th lord, and the two are friends.
- The 9th lord is in the 11th, well placed.
"Lagna lord Mars is in 5th house, 5th lord Jupiter is in lagna. Very powerful yoga between them. Compared to the next two years' charts, if you look at this Tajika chart, you can say, yes, this year can give a child."
- The natal D7 Jupiter Dasha begins in April 2011; after that it is Jupiter–Jupiter throughout.
- His guess: the delivery may come before the next Tajika year begins on July 22, 2011 — a little premature, or the expected date is over-estimated and the true one is nearer the end of July.
- He marks the limits of this: "going by the principles which we are still building, so we can't be confident".
Male or female
- Offered with the caveat that all these rules have to be re-evaluated.
- Natal D7 lagna is Leo, a male sign. By the standard rule the first child is seen from Sagittarius.
- Its lord Jupiter is in Pisces, alone. "Pisces shows male child, Jupiter shows male child, and he is without anybody." Likely a male child.
Propitiation for a smooth childbirth
- The best planets for children in the natal D7 are Mars (yogakaraka) and Jupiter. Either can be suggested.
- Jupiter is the 5th lord and his dasha runs from April, so the teacher suggests Jupiter: Sai Baba, Dakshinamurti, Shiva. Worship of Shiva is a good idea.
