Hearing Loss Case (Cancer Lagna) — Multi-Divisional Analysis, Moon's Dual Role & Surgery Timing

The case: Severe hearing loss with nerve damage, identified in the last two years but probably present from birth. Diagnosis was still going on; the doctors suspected a tumor and the family asked for a good time for an operation. He was on oxygen for months after birth, and at that time the family was told to do Venus and Sun mantras, which they did.

How the Question Arose — Narayana Dasha and Health

The students had applied the three-part rule to the Narayana dasha of Cancer (the lagna) and saw only well-being, while D-6 showed trouble.

• In the one-third that gives the results of the sign, judge: the nature of the sign, the house it is from lagna, the house it is from Arudha Lagna and from the other arudhas.
• For health, give more weight to D-6, D-30 and their dashas. Shula dasha is a very good dasha for health in the rashi chart.
• But a really big event must show in every dasha:

"Something really big has to be shown in all dashas, Vimshottari, Narayana, Shula, anything you see, there has to be some indication."

• Each dasha is an expert in one kind of event. If Narayana dasha seems to show nothing, "you missed something."

Natal Chart Factors

Hearing:

• 3rd house = the ears. 11th house = hearing, the function of the ears.
• For Cancer lagna the 11th is also the Badhaka sthana. Its lord Venus is in Marana Karaka Sthana. That shows the hearing problem.
• So the Venus remedy done at birth was well aimed, whatever its basis: "They did a good job."

The fundamental weakness:

• Lagna lord Moon is in the 2nd, afflicted by 8th lord Rahu, and Rahu is in Gandanta.
• Overall recovery and well-being are shown by the Moon. With the Moon this afflicted, remedies for any other planet are "unlikely to yield any significant results. Moon has to be really strengthened."

Narayana Dasha — Why Cancer?

Cancer dasha is running, and the problem was discovered in its last one-third.

• A11 is in Cancer. The arudha of the house of hearing is activated.
• Signs have argala too. "When sign is giving its result, it is also giving the result of its aspects on other signs. It is giving the results of its argala on other signs."
• Cancer is the 4th from Aries. So Cancer has argala on A6 (formal discovery of a disease = 6th house or A6) and on Saturn, the 8th lord, both in Aries.
• A11 in the dasha sign is not a problem by itself. The 11th is 6th from the 6th: it does not show ordinary illness (that is the 6th) but it can show serious suffering. Here its lord is also in Marana Karaka Sthana.
• "You could not have predicted just based on this. But there is some potential based on the Narayana dasha."
• Shula dasha would also be Cancer here, so it says the same.

Vimshottari Dasha — Sun–Mercury

Sun mahadasha, Mercury antardasha, running until the following August.

• Sun is the 2nd lord, Mercury the 3rd (and 12th) lord. Conjunction of 2nd and 3rd lords is a maraka combination, like the conjunction of 7th and 8th lords.
• They are in a trine from lagna (5th house). That does not rescue it.
• It occurs in Scorpio, "a very evil sign", which holds A8, the Mrityupada.
• Scorpio is the 3rd from Arudha Lagna.

"3rd from Arudha Lagna shows death and death-like sufferings. When the 3rd from Arudha Lagna especially contains A8, it's very dangerous."

• "2nd lord dasha, 3rd lord antardasha, 3rd from Arudha Lagna — all only evil combinations." The time is very unfavorable for any recovery effort.

Two side points raised by students:

• Mars–Mercury exchange (Mars in Virgo, Mercury in Scorpio): ignored. Scorpio is owned by Mars and Ketu; Ketu is the stronger lord, so the parivartana is with the weaker lord.
• A2 with A8: not counted against the native's health. A2 is the tangible family. A2 and A8 together mean a family that is very worried, a big setback or a death in the family. In a Tithi Pravesha chart, A2 with A8 means a problem in the family that year.

Moon Dasha (from late 2008)

• The Moon is weak, but look at the agenda. "Sun's agenda is to kill, 2nd lord. Moon's agenda is not to kill. Moon's agenda is to cure."
• The lagna lord is the most benefic planet in a chart. Where a planet owns lagna and the 6th or 8th, it is still very auspicious with some blemish. The Moon owns only the lagna: no blemish.
• "The person who wants to help you is weak. You somehow have to strengthen him."

Moon's Two Roles — D-1 and D-6

A student objected: in D-6 (lagna Aquarius) the Moon is the 6th lord.

"It is like one of your friends who really likes you, who wants to do good to you, but sometimes he just ends up irritating you ... he is overall for the health of this person. But he also is under some obligation to give some problem."

• Verdict: mixed, but "it is positive, it is not negative. But it is not perfect." The Moon will give cure, but not easily.
• Venus is Badhakesha in both charts — 11th lord for Cancer lagna in D-1, 9th lord for Aquarius lagna in D-6, where it sits with Saturn, Rahu and Ketu. 6th lord, 8th lord and Badhakesha are the troublemakers, and the Badhakesha's trouble comes as a shock, with no logic to it.

Remedy — Durga, Not Pearl

• Moon with Rahu: the devata is Durga, "without any doubt".
• Read Durga Saptashati, Durga Saptashloki or any Durga stotram, on Mondays at least, or daily. The boy or his parents.
• Pearl is a risky proposition here. The Moon has two agendas, and a gemstone carries factors nobody controls — the muhurta of wearing it, flaws in the stone, the state of mind of the man who made the ring and of the astrologer who prescribed it. The D-6 effect may dominate for a while.
• Prayer cannot go wrong. Even if the Moon were an evil planet in both charts, praying to the deity shown by the Moon does only good.

"Prayer will only increase the positive and decrease the negative. It will never basically harm."

• Prayer needs no muhurta: "They can start this microsecond."

Transits (late 2006)

• Saturn and Ketu are both transiting Leo, over the natal Moon. In general that is bad for health.
• Here both are tied to the natal 8th house: Saturn is the 8th lord, Ketu sits in the 8th. Transit Saturn is also on natal Rahu's degree.
• "This is not a good time for any positive activity. This is a time to just lie low and pray."
• Saturn stays about two and a half years; Ketu will move out sooner. A student pointed out that Saturn goes back into Cancer for some months of the next year. PVNR accepts that as a window, but the dasha is still Sun–Mercury: "Usually when maraka dasha, maraka antardasha are running, surgeries are not a great idea."

Tithi Pravesha 2006–07 (the coming year)

This is not a muhurta. It is a check on whether the year supports surgery: it may fix the problem, change nothing, or make things worse.

Tithi Pravesha chart for December 12, 2006 (6:42 PM IST at the birthplace). Lagna Gemini 7°. Ruler of the year: Moon.

• Moon (ruler of the year) is in Leo with Saturn and Ketu, less than one degree from Ketu — "completely eclipsed." Saturn and Ketu are the 8th and 6th lords of this chart.
• Lagna has Mandi within a degree.
• Lagna lord Mercury is in the 6th in Scorpio with 6th lord Mars and other planets, 8th from the Arudha Lagna (Aries).
• 9th lord Saturn also owns the 8th and afflicts the Moon. Rahu in Aquarius in the 9th aspects the Moon closely.
• "Does this year seem like a year of recovery? I am afraid not." With the rashi chart this fragile there is no need to open D-6 or D-30.

The one helpful planet is Venus:

• 5th lord (and 12th lord — hospitalization) in the 7th, aspecting lagna by graha drishti within 40 arc-minutes. A natural and functional benefic.
• Ruler of the Mrityunjaya mantra.
• 9th from Arudha Lagna: protection of the tangible body.
• In the D-6 of this chart, lagna lord in lagna (also 6th lord). "Always lagna lord is the best benefic for that chart."
• Mercury's period is worse: Mercury disposits Mandi, and Mandi has no dasha of his own, so his dispositor or Saturn gives his results.

Advice: PVNR would not say "go for it". If surgery must be done in the next six or seven months, the relatively better period is Venus's period in this annual chart, January 3 to March 14, 2007. The student said that was too early for the family. "Then we cannot help."

Tithi Pravesha 2007–08 and 2008–09

• 2007–08: December 1, 2007, 4:59:29 PM IST. Hora lord Sun. The lagna is on the Aries–Taurus border, so PVNR sets it aside.
• 2008–09 (November 20, 2008), the year natal Moon dasha begins. Leo lagna. Hora lord Sun, so the Sun is both lagna lord and ruler of the year.
  • Moon (12th lord) is in lagna at 3°, in Gandanta but not deep, with Saturn at the other end of the sign. Moon with Saturn: pain and depression continue.
  • Sun is in the Arudha Lagna (Scorpio) with Mars, the yogakaraka and 9th lord, and with Mercury, 2nd and 11th lord and a functional malefic.
  • "The strength of Sun basically indicates strongly that there is some recovery during this year."

Forecast: Whatever they try now, something else may come out. "It will drag on in some form or the other for a couple of years, and after a couple of years, in 2009, basically things will improve considerably. ... After November 20, 2008, that is when his time will come."

Saturn-Ketu Transit in Leo (General Advisory)

Said in late 2006. Around November 1 several big planets changed signs within weeks, and Saturn was in very deep Gandanta at the start of Leo (now past the first degree).

• Saturn and Ketu together are not great for the world. For sadhana the combination is very good, more so when it falls in an important sign of your chart.
• Tell people to pray, to the deity that suits their chart. "This is a good time for prayers, especially the next one year when Shani and Ketu are in Leo."
• Leo is a critical sign for you if it is your lagna or Moon sign, your 8th or 12th house, or holds your lagna lord, 8th lord, 12th lord or natal Ketu.

"It is a very good time to just be contemplative, just think about God, don't think about material things."
