Example Chart (1936, Libra Lagna Rectified): Satapdrika Dasha = Vargottama Lagna Condition; Moon+Mercury = Vaishya Career (Medical Sales), Marriage Oct 1961 Confirmed (Mercury-Saturn in Vimshottari + Mercury-Moon in Satapdrika = UL Lord + Dharma-Karma Yoga)
A health chart given as 5:30 AM ± 5 minutes, with the navāṁśa lagna about to change 20 seconds later. The marriage of October 1961 is tested in three daśās: Śatābdika from the vargottama lagna gives Mercury–Moon (Upapada lord and 9th lord, with the 10th lord Moon in the navāṁśa), Vimśottarī gives Mercury–Saturn (Saturn aspects the 7th in rāśi and sits in the 7th from lagna and Venus in the navāṁśa), while Ṣaṣṭihāyanī gives Jupiter–Jupiter and is dropped. The daśāṁśa then moves the time back to 5:28: at 5:30 the 10th lord is the Sun with Rāhu, a surgeon; at 5:28 the 10th lord Moon joins the 9th lord Mercury — the Vaiśya planets, a salesman with a good career. The page also covers the ulcer as a Pitta problem from the debilitated bādhaka Sun in lagna, and the March 1986 health problem in Śatābdika Mars daśā and Vimśottarī Venus–Saturn.
Key principle
Moon and Mercury are the Vaiśyas of the planetary cabinet. So the Moon and Mercury combination can show a salesman.
Example Chart
A Health Chart — Constitution, Marriage Daśā and Rectification
The native and the events
- A medical sales representative, now retired. He had growth in his career.
- Married October 21, 1961. One daughter and one son.
- March 1986: a big health problem.
- Suffers from ulcer generally.
- Cancer of the digestive system: first suspected in March 2009, confirmed in July 2009.
- Wears red coral (Mars) and cat's eye (Ketu).
Ulcer — a Pitta constitution, before looking at the chart
- An ulcer is the membranes of the digestive system being burnt.
- Very spicy food does it. So does too much acid, too much digestive juice in the stomach — and that is the Pitta person.
- So the chart must show a Pitta influence on the lagna.
In the chart: lagna is Libra with a debilitated Sun in it. The Sun is the 11th lord, the bādhakeśa for Libra.
"A debilitated bādhaka lord afflicting lagna. Lagna is ruined. So Sun is the ruiner of lagna. That confirms that he will have Pitta-related problems."
Which conditional daśā applies?
- Śatābdika daśā needs a vargottama lagna. Lagna is Libra in rāśi and in navāṁśa — but the navāṁśa lagna changes to Scorpio if 20 seconds are added to the birth time, and the time is only good to ±5 minutes. So it may or may not apply. If it works, it confirms the navāṁśa lagna.
- Ṣaṣṭihāyanī daśā needs the Sun in lagna. The Sun is in lagna, so on paper it applies.
Marriage (October 21, 1961) — testing the daśās
Śatābdika, started from lagna (the lagna is what is vargottama, not the Moon): Mercury mahādaśā, Moon antardaśā.
- Mercury is the lord of the Upapada in the rāśi chart and in the navāṁśa. (Rāśi: the 12th is Virgo with its lord Mercury in it, so the Upapada is Gemini.)
- Mercury is the 9th lord in both, showing dharma.
- In the navāṁśa Mercury (9th lord) and Moon (10th lord) are together in Virgo, the 12th house: a dharma-karmādhipati rāja yoga.
- So Mercury–Moon can give marriage.
Vimśottarī from the Moon: Mercury mahādaśā, Saturn antardaśā.
- Mercury: Upapada lord and 9th lord, as above.
- Saturn: a student calls him the 7th lord; the teacher corrects that. In the rāśi chart Saturn (in Aquarius) aspects the 7th house, Aries, by graha dṛṣṭi. In the navāṁśa he is in Aries, the 7th house from both lagna and Venus (both in Libra). Saturn is also the yogakāraka for Libra.
- The teacher first feared Saturn had slipped into the 6th, since the lagna is at the end of Libra in navāṁśa; Saturn is also at the end of Aries, so he is in the 7th.
The alternative, Scorpio navāṁśa lagna (time 20 seconds later): Mercury becomes the 8th lord in the 11th with the 9th lord. No strong case for Mercury–Saturn giving marriage.
Conclusion: Libra navāṁśa lagna makes more sense, on Vimśottarī as well as Śatābdika. The time is not later than 5:30:20.
Ṣaṣṭihāyanī, started from lagna: marriage falls in Jupiter daśā, Jupiter antardaśā.
"Does it make sense to you honestly? Not really. Jupiter is not really a giver of marriage."
- Why it fails: the Sun is in lagna but debilitated — not strong there, and a bādhaka lord at that. So perhaps the daśā does not apply.
- Moreover Śatābdika trumps Ṣaṣṭihāyanī. Drop Ṣaṣṭihāyanī; give Śatābdika the higher priority.
Tithi Praveśa: the 1961 Tithi Praveśa fell on the evening of October 21, the wedding day itself. It is not known whether the wedding was before or after the new year began, so the teacher does not use it.
Rectification from the daśāṁśa — the salesman
What is known so far: the time is not after 5:30:20. It could be 5:29, 5:28, 5:27, 5:25.
At 5:30 the daśāṁśa lagna is Scorpio. The 10th lord Sun is with Rāhu (Capricorn, the 3rd house).
- Sun with Rāhu can show the medical field, but it shows a surgeon, not a man who goes around selling medicines.
- Nor is it a great placement for a career that grew well.
Who shows a salesman? A salesman is a Vaiśya.
"Moon and Mercury are the Vaiśyas of the planetary cabinet. So the Moon and Mercury combination can show a salesman."
Moving the time back: 5:29:30 does not change the daśāṁśa lagna. 5:28 does — it becomes Libra.
- 10th lord is now the Moon. Moon (3°37') and Mercury (10°48') are together in Aquarius, about 7 degrees apart — close enough, not at the two ends of the sign.
- They are the 10th and 9th lords: a rāja yoga, and they are the salesman's planets. He should have had a good career, and he did.
- The teacher calls their house "the 4th, a kendra from lagna". Counted from the Libra daśāṁśa lagna, Aquarius is the 5th, a trikoṇa (it was the 4th from the Scorpio lagna of the 5:30 chart). The 9th–10th lord conjunction stands either way.
The window:
- The daśāṁśa lagna changes back 56 seconds after 5:28, so the time is before 5:29.
- Going backward, the navāṁśa lagna holds for about 13 minutes and the daśāṁśa lagna for about 11.
- With the stated ±5 minutes: between 5:24 and 5:28.
- Lagna is in the first 3 degrees of Libra. Good enough, since no technique needing the lagna to half a degree is going to be used.
The health problem of March 1986
Śatābdika: Mars daśā.
- Rāśi chart: Mars is the 2nd and 7th lord, a māraka, and he sits in Leo, the 11th — the bādhakasthāna.
- A māraka in bādhakasthāna gives health problems that are hard to diagnose.
"Things that just generally come, you don't know what is going on. Complicated problems. Not simple like, I got a cold, I got fever, I got jaundice."
- Ṣaṣṭhāṁśa (D-6, Aries lagna): Mars is lagna lord and 8th lord in the 6th house. The 8th lord in the 6th is not a viparīta rāja yoga here; it shows serious problems.
Vimśottarī: Venus daśā, Saturn antardaśā.
- In the ṣaṣṭhāṁśa Venus (2nd and 7th lord) is a māraka and Saturn (11th lord) is the bādhaka lord.
- Māraka lord's daśā, bādhaka lord's antardaśā.
