Graha Yuddha: When the Lagna Lord Loses to a Maraka in the 8th

A woman's chart, kept anonymous in class. The chart had been discussed twice before and the time rectified then; this class takes the time as right and uses Vimshottari.

The placements the class works from:

• Rasi: Libra lagna. Venus, Mars and Saturn in Taurus in the 8th. Sun exalted in Aries in the 7th. Moon and Ketu in Cancer in the 10th, Rahu in Capricorn in the 4th. Jupiter in Sagittarius in the 3rd. Mercury in Pisces in the 6th.
• Navamsa: Gemini lagna. Venus and Mars in Cancer in the 2nd. Moon and Ketu in Virgo in the 4th. Jupiter in Leo in the 3rd. Saturn in Aries in the 11th.

Marriage and Divorce in Vimshottari

She tried twice to end her life within about seven months: in late 2008, and again in July 2009 after the engagement was cancelled. Both fall in Venus–Venus.

Can Venus give a second marriage?

• In Navamsa the 7th is the first marriage. The 8th from it, the 2nd house, is the second marriage.
• Venus is in that 2nd house. Cancer is not a friendly sign for him but it is acceptable. He is with Mars, who is debilitated there.
• So Venus–Venus has the potential to give a second marriage. It cannot be ruled out.

Saptamsa (D-7) — Children

The class was told she has not been able to conceive.

• D-7 lagna is Aries. Mars and Venus are together in lagna. They are enemies; not a good combination.
• Rahu is in the 5th (Leo). That is Sarpa Dosha: no children, or children after much trouble. There are cases where Rahu in the 5th gives children late, after struggle and remedies.
• But here Rahu is also the bādhaka lord (he co-owns Aquarius, the 11th from a movable lagna). "He is not just Rahu, he is bādhaka Rahu."
• In a female chart see the 9th. Its lord Jupiter is in the 12th. He is in his own sign, but it is still the 12th.
• These are weaknesses in the Saptamsa.

Trimsamsa (D-30) — The Afflicted Mind

"Any person who has suicidal tendency has to have either Moon or Mercury afflicted by Saturn, Rahu, Ketu, etc. in the Trimsamsa."

• D-30 lagna is Libra. Moon, Mercury, Saturn, Rahu and Ketu are all in Virgo, the 12th.
• Moon is the karaka of manas, Mercury of buddhi. Both are in the 12th with Saturn, Rahu and Ketu. A terrible combination.
• Saturn gives depression. Rahu, and Rahu–Ketu with Moon, give anger. Anger, frustration and depression are all strongly there.
• This makes her weak-minded and prone to depression in general. It is a standing weakness, not the thing being triggered now.

Why now? Three dashas point at Venus–Mars, not at the Moon

• Vimshottari: Venus.
• Chaturashiti Sama Dasha (which applies to this chart): Mars mahadasha, Jupiter antardasha.
• The D-30 Chara Paryāya Dasha (chara because the D-30 lagna is a movable sign; counted from the 6th house, and earlier used on D-6 for health): the dasha running is the one holding Venus and Mars. In D-30 they are together in Capricorn. (The sign name is garbled on the recording.)
• Three different dashas show the Venus–Mars combination. So the results being felt now are those of lagna lord Venus afflicted by Mars — in D-30 as well as in Rasi.
• When Vimshottari, Chaturashiti Sama and the Paryāya Dasha all point at Virgo in D-30 and the planets there, things can be much worse. "This is not the peak of her depressive tendency."

The Core Problem — Graha Yuddha in the 8th

• Venus is at 22°13' Taurus and Mars at 22°24' Taurus. Eleven arc minutes apart.
• They are in graha yuddha. Mars is the winner. Venus, the lagna lord, is the loser.
• It happens in the 8th house. Mars is the 7th lord and the 2nd lord, placed in the 8th: a clear māraka. He is also Venus's enemy.
• A lagna lord defeated in graha yuddha is a fundamental weakness in a chart. The lagna lord is the basic personality and the intelligence — what makes you think. Her personality can succumb to Mars.
• Mars gives frustration. "She is more than depressed. She is frustrated with her life. She is also internally angry: why is this happening to me?"
• Had Venus won, it would be different, though Mars does not give up easily and would still pinch Venus now and then. Here the lagna lord is the loser and the māraka is the winner.
• A lagna lord's defeat by an arch-enemy is not less than any other weakness. If the lagna lord were the Sun and Saturn had defeated him, you could expect terrible things, especially in the dasha of either.

The loser's dasha belongs to the winner

"Suppose a king loses in a war, his kingdom is the winner's. He does not necessarily take good care of the kingdom. He can destroy the kingdom."

"If a planet is losing in a graha yuddha and his dasha is running, the winner of the graha yuddha can do what he wants. The time is like his time."

• It is more than an exchange of results.
• Mars as māraka wants the native to die. He does not care about a second or third marriage. By defeating the lagna lord he defeats her intelligence, her ability to think straight.
• He does it now because it is Venus dasha — the dasha of the one who lost the war to him.
• So two things are active together: a mind that is weak (D-30), and a dasha that perverts the intelligence (lagna lord's dasha run by the māraka).

Is Mars blocking the second marriage? (a student's question)

• The 7th lord in the 8th makes marriage problematic in general.
• But in Navamsa, from the house of second marriage (Cancer), Mars is the yogakāraka. In Rasi he is the 7th and 2nd lord and can give marriage.
• "I don't think Mars is the reason for blocking the second marriage, but Mars is the reason for all the frustration that she has to face."

Tithi Pravesha 2009–10

Tithi Pravesha fell on May 2, 2009 (3:53:38 AM at the birthplace).

• Lagna Pisces. Venus and Mars are both in lagna, about five degrees apart. Venus is the 8th lord; Mars is the 9th lord.
• The Mars–Venus combination sits on lagna, as it afflicts the lagna lord in the natal chart.
• A bad combination of the natal chart that recurs in the Tithi Pravesha chart gives bad results that year.
• Do not take Mars as a protecting 9th lord here. He is the one who wants to kill her in the natal chart. And in this chart Venus himself is the 8th lord.
• Venus is the Hora Lord, the ruler of the year: the 8th lord in lagna. Not a good combination.
• The Venus period of the year ran May 19 – July 26. The last stretch, July 14–26, is the worst part; the second attempt came then.
• Moon is with Ketu in the 5th (about 8° apart) and is the 5th lord of emotional stability. Ketu's affliction of the Moon is not good even though Ketu is the 9th lord.
• D-30 of the year is very bad: Mercury with Rahu and Ketu in lagna, Moon with Mars opposite. Venus, the ruler of the year, is in that lagna too.
• The Sun's period is all right. The Moon's period, which had just begun and runs to October 4, is the other one to be careful in.
• Navamsa of the year: lagna lord Venus in the 12th with the bādhaka lord (Sun); lagna holds the 6th lord and several other planets. No strong promise of marriage this year.
• Someone should be giving her optimism through this stretch. "Some optimistic brainwashing needs to be done right now."

Tithi Pravesha 2010–11

"This looks much better."

• Ruler of the year: Sun.
• Navamsa lagna is Gemini. The 7th lord Jupiter is in lagna with the Sun, the ruler of the year — he "has the ear of the ruler of the year". The Sun is also the 3rd lord there, a kāma trikoṇa lord.
• House of second marriage, the 2nd of Navamsa (Cancer): its lord Moon is with Mercury, whom the teacher reads as the Upapada lord placed in the Upapada. Venus, the dārakāraka and the natural karaka, aspects the 2nd (graha dṛṣṭi, from Capricorn).
• Rasi of the year: the 7th lord Moon is in the 7th.
• Who gives it? Moon — 7th lord in Rasi, lord of the second marriage in Navamsa, and in a kendra from the Sun in both. Venus or Jupiter could also. "My money is on Moon."
• Moon's period: August 13 – October 6, 2010. The ruler of the year can bring it forward. Late July, August and September 2010 is the likely window.

How Will the Marriages Go? (Navamsa and Upapada)

Rasi and Upapada:

• The 7th lord Mars is in the 8th.
• From the Upapada (Gemini), the 2nd and 8th hold the Moon–Ketu / Rahu axis. The 2nd and 8th are the māraka houses for the Upapada.
• Venus, Mars and Saturn are in the 12th from it.
• This shows that in general marriages are not pleasant for her. So even a third marriage may not be a great one.

The teacher's counsel:

• "I am not even worried about marriage. I am worried about her life, her longevity, her mental state." Marriage is secondary.
• If she wants to marry, 2010 is a good possibility.
• If she comes by herself to feel that she need not be married to live, that is the best outcome. Do not force it on her; it has to come naturally.
• Whoever counsels her must not destabilise her. If inwardly she believes her life is unfulfilled without marriage and a child, the counsellor has to know that.
