Mother Leo Lagna (1964): Saturn Dasha 6L+6H = Knees (10H Body Part); 10L Venus in 6H = Disease House; D30 Saturn in 8H Scorpio = Serious Suffering; Tridoshic (60%Pitta+25%Vata+Kapha); Yogaraj Guggulu + Fennel/Licorice Tea + Mahanarayan Oil; D20 5L in 5H=Extreme Devotion; Lalitha Worship Confirmed; Drig Dasha Libra 2010-2017=Peak Spiritual Period
A Leo-lagna native with knee trouble in Saturn daśā. The 10th house is the knees: it is empty, aspected by the 12th lord Moon and the 6th lord Saturn, and its lord Venus sits in the 6th, his maraṇa kāraka sthāna, beside Saturn. D-30 decides the severity — Saturn, the bādhaka lord, in the 8th in Scorpio. The constitution is read from aspects on lagna (pitta-dominant, tridoṣic) and on Moon (kapha mind), and the knee condition comes out hot and dry: vāta with some pitta. The teacher gives Yogarāja guggulu, a fennel–licorice tea, an oil for the knees, a diet without heating spices, and Saturn mantras or Hanumān Cālīsā. The D-20 lagna, on the Aquarius/Pisces border, is fixed as Aquarius from her Lalitā worship; the chart shows discipline, devotion and ritual, the Dṛg daśā of Libra (2010–2017) is her peak period, and the 12th from the ātmakāraka confirms the deity.
Key principle
If there is some knee problem, there has to be some weakness associated with the 10th lord or 10th house. Otherwise it's unlikely.
Example Chart
Example chart
Lagna: 4°27' Leo. Moon: 3°44' Libra.
Question: health. The native has a lot of trouble in her knees.
Knee Problem Analysis
First caution: a knee problem can come from excess kapha (water accumulated), excess pitta or excess vāta (no lubrication). "Nothing is off the table."
House map of the body: 1st head; 2nd face; 3rd neck, throat and part of the lungs; 4th heart and chest; 5th upper stomach, digestion; 6th lower stomach, liver; 7th kidneys and the internal parts further down; 8th the hidden parts; 9th thighs; 10th knees and calves; 11th lower calves and ankles; 12th feet.
"If there is some knee problem, there has to be some weakness associated with the 10th lord or 10th house. Otherwise it's unlikely."
The 10th house (Taurus) and its lord:
- No occupants.
- Strongest graded aspects on it: Moon 75%, Saturn 69%. Moon is the 12th lord (hospitalisation). Saturn is the 6th lord in the 6th. The lords of the 12th and 6th aspect the 10th.
- 10th lord Venus is in the 6th house (Capricorn), the house of disease — and the 6th is Venus's maraṇa kāraka sthāna.
- The usual rule is that the house the 6th lord occupies shows the part diseased. That rule does not apply here. This is its reverse: whichever lord sits in the 6th, the part that lord's house rules can suffer.
Saturn daśā is running:
- Saturn owns the 6th and 7th. The 7th is neutral, the 6th is malefic: a malefic for Leo lagna.
- He is the 6th lord in the 6th, aspects the 10th (about 70%), and is the dispositor of the 10th lord.
Which Doṣa Is the Knee Problem
- If Venus were the giver it would be kapha. But the trouble came in Saturn daśā, so mostly vāta.
- In Capricorn: Mars at 2° (exalted; he is the bādhaka lord), Venus at 25°, Saturn at 27–28°. Venus is afflicted far more closely by Saturn than by Mars. "So forget Mars." Pitta is not what is causing this problem.
- First estimate for the knee: 80% vāta, 20% kapha. Dryness, worn joints, not enough lubrication — an arthritis-like condition.
- After D-30 (Saturn in fiery Scorpio) and the constitution, the teacher settles on hot and dry: "probably a vāta problem with some pitta in it." Vāta is the dryness; pitta is inflammation and swelling.
Antardaśās
- Saturn–Venus, 2006–2009, was a particularly bad period: Venus is the 10th lord in the 6th, with the 6th lord.
- Saturn–Sun (the lagna lord) has also ended.
- Saturn–Moon is running. Moon is the 12th lord; no relief shown. Mars follows.
- The problem persists through Saturn daśā. It is unlikely to get much worse, because the Saturn and Venus antardaśās were the worst ones and they are past.
D-30 Confirmation
A planet badly placed in rāśi does not give serious suffering unless the triṁśāṁśa also shows it.
- D-30 lagna is Aries. Saturn is the bādhaka lord (11th lord for a movable lagna) and a malefic.
- He is in the 8th house, in Scorpio, "a very evil sign".
- "If there is a link between bādhaka, 8th and 6th, these three factors, it will be quite bad."
- So the knee trouble seen in rāśi will be intense during Saturn daśā.
- Saturn stands out, not Venus. Scorpio is taken as a fiery sign, hence hot and dry.
"Things are quite bad… During the Saturn daśā there will be serious suffering."
The teacher places Venus in the 7th of D-30. The site's chart has Venus 2' past the 25° boundary and so in Scorpio with Saturn.
Constitution Analysis
Body — influences on lagna:
- Lagna lord Sun is in a fiery sign (Sagittarius): pitta.
- Mars 98% aspect on lagna: pitta.
- Saturn 94% and Rahu 100%: vāta.
- Venus 92%: kapha.
- Pitta very strong, vāta moderate, kapha present: tridoṣic. About 60–65% pitta, 20–25% vāta, the rest kapha.
- Aspects on lagna lord Sun: nothing reaches three-quarters (Moon 57%), so ignored.
Mind — influences on Moon: Jupiter 86%. The mental constitution is kapha: stable, possibly lazy.
Result: a hot, dry body. Such a person loves spices and should stay away from them.
"People for whom spices are good, like kapha people, hate spices… And people for whom spices are like poison, they love spices."
Ayurvedic Remedies
For the vāta in the joints:
- Yogarāja guggulu. Guggulu is a resin, mixed with different things for different conditions (the teacher also names Kaiśora guggulu). Yogarāja guggulu removes vāta from the neuromuscular system.
- Background: dryness belongs in the colon, pitta in the stomach, kapha in the lungs. Wrong food, poor sleep and stress send them elsewhere; here dryness has gone into nerves and muscles.
- Mahānārāyaṇa tailam rubbed into the knees and left to soak.
Diet:
- No chillies (red above all; green if she must), no pepper, no cloves, no mustard seed.
- Āvakāya — mango in mustard powder and red chilli powder — is "a triple pitta combination".
- Allowed: coriander seed, cumin and fennel in equal parts. A little cinnamon is tolerable, "but that is also not that good".
- Coriander greens are very good. Buttermilk with chopped coriander leaf after every meal is "like amṛta for her" — but not alongside āvakāya: poison and amṛta together.
Licorice (yaṣṭimadhu): soothes inflammation.
- Tea: boil fennel seed and licorice in water, let it stand an hour, filter, drink. Add a pinch of turmeric so it is not too cooling.
- Oil: heat Mahānārāyaṇa tailam or plain sesame oil with licorice, aśvagandhā (against vāta) and fennel; leave it some days; reheat; repeat for about a week; filter. Massage the knees with it.
Why these herbs: vāta is cold and dry and is normally treated with heating things; pitta is hot and treated with cooling things. Here the condition is hot and dry — "dry weather with the heater running". It needs substances that are neither heating nor strongly cooling, and moistening.
Caveat from the teacher: this is the tip of the iceberg. A proper Ayurvedic doctor should read the pulse and diagnose. Astrology says only: probably vāta with some pitta.
Propitiation of Saturn
Saturn is the key. Options, any one:
- The Atharva Veda mantra for Śani given by Parāśara, śaṁ no devīr abhiṣṭaya āpo bhavantu pītaye, śaṁ yor abhisravantu naḥ. Atharva Veda mantras prescribed by ṛṣis are tuned for prayoga, results.
- If the svaras are a difficulty: Śani Aṣṭottara (108 names), "very powerful in Kali Yuga".
- The names of Śani from the story of Daśaratha (the class says sixteen).
- Śani Kavacam — a kavaca suits a physical problem.
- A Śani homam, or chanting any mantra from the teacher's Śani homam manual.
- Hanumān Cālīsā, because Saturn is with Mars and in a sign of Mars. (The transcript is garbled on which varga; in the cast chart Saturn is with Mars in D-1 and in Scorpio in D-30.)
D-20 — Rectifying the Lagna by Her Worship
- The D-20 lagna is on the border of Aquarius and Pisces. Nothing can be said until that is settled. So the teacher asks what she worships.
- The student's answer: she does a lot of Lalitā — the gentle, sāttvic forms of the Mother, not the raudra forms.
- If Pisces: the 5th lord Moon is with Mercury, which can show Lalitā. But Rahu and Ketu sit in the 5th, Cancer; that would have shown some ugra form too.
- If Aquarius: the 5th lord Mercury is in the 5th sign (Gemini) with Moon. A very sāttvic form: Mercury-controlled Sarasvatī, or Moon-controlled Lalitā, Pārvatī, Umā, Gaurī.
- Her attachment to Lalitā Sahasranāma and Śrī Vidyā makes Aquarius the likely lagna. The site's chart also gives Aquarius.
D-20 — What It Shows
Houses are again counted from the lagna degree (end of Aquarius), so Saturn in the sign Libra is in the 8th house and Mercury in the sign Gemini is in the 4th.
- Lagna lord Saturn exalted: strength, spiritual potential. In the 8th house: someone who can sit at pūjā for an hour or two. Discipline and patience.
- 5th lord Mercury in the 5th sign: strength of the 5th lord is devotion. Very devoted.
- Saturn and Mercury together: strict about the rules of worship — bath, clean surroundings.
- Venus, 9th lord, 93% aspect on lagna (from Leo, opposite): dharmic and ritual-minded. Some spiritual people dislike ritual; she does not.
- Jupiter, 2nd and 11th lord, 77% aspect on lagna: 2nd is family, 11th is friends. She wants family and friends in her sādhanā. Not a solitary practitioner.
Dṛg Daśā — 2010 to 2017
- The daśā running is Libra. In this daśā the sign is the progressed 9th house, so the progressed 1st house is the 5th from it: Aquarius.
- Take Aquarius as lagna in the rāśi chart: Mars, Venus and Saturn — Saturn being the lord of Aquarius — are in the 12th (Capricorn). That favours experiences and detachment.
- 2010–2017 is good for intense sādhanā and "is likely to be the peak in her spiritual life".
Is Lalitā the Right Deity
- Ātmakāraka is Saturn (D-20: 15°43' Libra). The 12th from him is Virgo.
- Aspects on 15°43' Virgo: Mars at 15° Taurus has half aspect. Moon (10°34' Gemini) and Mercury (17° Gemini) have almost 75% each.
- Moon and Mercury are also in the 9th from the ātmakāraka — the dharma devatā — and Mercury is the lord of Virgo.
- Mercury can show Viṣṇu (with Moon, Kṛṣṇa) or Sarasvatī. Mercury with Moon, Moon dominating, shows Lalitā or Pārvatī — "not Durgā".
- She is on the right path. Śrī Vidyā upāsanā is enough. She needs no Caṇḍī or Durgā Saptaśatī. At most add Viṣṇu Sahasranāma.
