Mother's Health (1953): D12 Karaka-Lagna + 6L by House = Foot Problems Confirmed & the native (1984): D24 Rectification, Mercury-Jupiter Parivartana D9 = Happy Marriage, TP 9/10/11L in 7H = 2010 Marriage Year

Two charts worked in class. First, a mother's illness read from her son's chart: in D-12 the graha ārūḍha of the 4th lord (L4, Aquarius) is taken as her lagna; the running Mercury antardaśā is her 8th lord with Ketu on her lagna lord, so the trouble is long-term, to 2012. The 2008–09 Tithi Praveśa D-12 shows her foot complaint only after the birth time is taken back 40 seconds — the Moon then is a māraka exalted in the 12th from L4 — and the 4th from the Moon in D-12 confirms it. Second, a woman of 24 whose matches keep breaking: D-24 will not show her computer-science degree until the time is moved back 3 min 40 s, which also changes the navāṁśa. The new navāṁśa has lagna lord Mercury in the 7th exchanging with 7th lord Jupiter in the 4th — a happy marriage, given by Mercury's daśā, which has not yet begun. Navāṁśa Nārāyaṇa Daśā and the 2009–10 Tithi Praveśa place it in January–June 2010, Mercury's period strongest.

Key principle

One thing I can say is her marriage will be basically happy, because Navamsa has Mercury and Jupiter in the 4th and 7th houses with Parivartana. That definitely shows happy marriage.

The son's chart; the question is about his mother. Rāśi: Cancer lagna, 6th lord Jupiter in the 12th — the teacher starts to read feet from it, then withdraws it because that is the native, not the mother. Open D-12 (Pisces lagna): the 4th lord Mercury is in Libra, so L4 falls in Aquarius. From Aquarius, lagna lord Saturn is exalted in the 9th with the 8th lord Mercury, the bādhakeśa Venus and Ketu. Those same planets are in the 8th from his own D-12 lagna. The Moon is in Leo in D-12; the 4th from it is Scorpio, and its 12th (Libra) holds all three daśā lords.

Annual chart for 2008–09. Open D-12: lagna Scorpio, 4th house Aquarius, and the teacher reads L4 in Gemini. From Gemini the Moon is the 2nd lord, exalted in the 12th house (feet), and the 12th lord Venus is in Gemini itself. Mars, the 6th lord, aspects Gemini from Sagittarius by graha dṛṣṭi; Mercury, its lord, is with Jupiter in Cancer. With the uncorrected 4:05 birth time the D-12 lagna is Sagittarius and L4 falls in Scorpio instead.

D-24: Libra lagna, 9th house Gemini ruled by Mercury — the computer-science degree (at 3:45 the lagna is Scorpio and the 9th lord Moon is in the 8th). D-9: Gemini lagna with Sun and Moon in it; Mercury in Sagittarius in the 7th and Jupiter in Virgo in the 4th exchange signs; Saturn and Venus in the 12th; Mars and Rāhu in the 9th. At 3:45 the D-9 lagna is Cancer, with Mars and Rāhu in the 8th and Saturn–Venus in the 11th.

Chart Analysis — Mother's Health from the Son's Chart

Birth data (the son): Aug 31, 1953, 4:05 AM IST (corrected in class to 4:04:20 AM), 83°18'E, 17°42'N Lagna: 20°40' Cancer | Moon: Taurus (exalted)

Question: his mother has been unwell for four weeks. Is this a short disturbance or the start of a long problem? Her own chart is not available, so she is read from his. The complaint turns out to be in the feet.

The Body-Part Rule (recap from the first year)

Both the 6th lord and the 8th lord show health problems.

LordHow to find the body part
8th lordBy the sign he occupies in the natural zodiac (Aries = head; Leo = digestive system)
6th lordBy the house he occupies (2nd = face, eyes; 5th = digestion)
  • The teacher begins to apply it: the 6th lord Jupiter is in the 12th house of the rāśi chart, so a problem in the feet is possible.
  • He stops and withdraws it — "I jumped the gun". That reading is about the native. The question is about his mother, and for her these rules cannot be applied to his rāśi chart.

Reading the Mother from D-12

  • Go to the dvādaśāṁśa (D-12 lagna: Pisces). There is no option but to take L4, the graha ārūḍha of the 4th lord, as the mother's lagna.
  • The 4th lord Mercury is in Libra. L4 falls in Aquarius (A4 falls there too). Read houses from Aquarius.
  • Which daśā: lagna is not vargottama, the 7th lord is not in lagna, the 10th lord is not in the 10th, the lagna lord is not in the 7th — no special daśā applies. Vimśottarī it is. From lagna or from the Moon? Lagna is strong (five planets in kendras) but the Moon is exalted; he uses plain Vimśottarī.
  • Running: Saturn mahādaśā, Mercury antardaśā, Venus pratyantardaśā (April 2009).

From Aquarius in D-12:

  • Saturn is lagna lord, exalted in the 9th house (Libra) with the 9th lord Venus. He cannot create huge problems. He is also the 12th lord.
  • Mercury is the 8th lord, sitting with the lagna lord and with Ketu.

"8th lord when he is with Ketu is more dangerous."

  • Venus is the 9th lord in the 9th, but for a fixed sign the 9th lord is the bādhakeśa. So three bad influences sit on the lagna lord: the 8th lord, the bādhakeśa and Ketu.
  • The Mercury antardaśā has "potential for mischief". The next antardaśā, Ketu, is no better. Venus antardaśā after that is much better.
  • The illness began in a good pratyantardaśā (Venus) and she is still suffering. So the pratyantardaśā did not bring it — the antardaśā did.
  • Ketu's antardaśā ends in 2012. Until then health can stay an issue — the same problem, or this one fixed and another coming. This looks long-term.
  • The body part cannot be read this finely from an ārūḍha lagna alone.

From the native's own D-12 lagna: Saturn, Mercury and Venus — the daśā, antardaśā and pratyantardaśā lords — are all in his 8th house (four planets are there, with Ketu). He always has some worry over father or mother; in this period all three daśā lords point at it.

Tithi Praveśa 2008–09 and the Birth-Time Correction

  • TP for the year: Aug 23, 2008, 5:42:55 PM, same place. Look at its D-12.
  • With 4:05 AM: L4 is in Scorpio. The Moon — whose period was running when the trouble started — is in the 7th from it, a māraka house, exalted, and lord of the bādhaka house. Exaltation of such a lord is not good.
  • The D-12 lagna of this annual chart changes if the birth is only 37 seconds earlier. He takes off 40 seconds: 4:04:20 AM.
  • Nothing else moves. The natal lagna goes from 20°40' to 20°31' Cancer, with no divisional boundary between; natal rāśi, navāṁśa, daśāṁśa and dvādaśāṁśa stay as they were. Only the D-12 of the annual chart changes.
  • With 4:04:20 AM the TP falls at 5:42:16 PM and L4 is in Gemini (the 4th house is Aquarius; its co-lord Rāhu is in Libra, the 9th from it, and the 9th from Libra is Gemini). From Gemini:
    • The Moon is the 2nd lord, a māraka, exalted in the 12th house — feet.
    • The 12th lord Venus, the Moon's dispositor, is in lagna. A foot ailment during the year is shown, and the periods to give it are Venus and Moon.
  • The Moon period giving a foot problem fits the corrected time. He adopts 4:04:20.
  • Next periods: Mars is the 6th lord of disease aspecting lagna — no relief. Mercury is lagna lord, with Jupiter — she is all right then. Hope of relief, and the time to try treatment, is June–July 2009.
  • Bottom line: the annual chart shows what triggered the foot problem; the natal antardaśās say health will not be perfect for a while. "Be prepared for a little extended problem."

Kāraka Lagna — 4th from the Moon

  • Parāśara's simple principle: 9th from the Sun is father, 3rd from Mars is brother, 4th from the Moon is mother. Use it in the dvādaśāṁśa, not in rāśi.
  • In the natal D-12 the Moon is in Leo. The 4th from it, Scorpio, shows the mother.
  • The 12th from Scorpio (Libra) is very strong: the 8th lord Mercury, Saturn and the 7th lord Venus are all there. A strong 12th can show a detached or spiritual person, many losses — or a problem with the feet.
  • The daśā, antardaśā and pratyantardaśā lords are exactly those three planets.

Remedy

  • A specific remedy for the mother out of the son's D-12 is very hard to give.
  • Venus is his 4th lord in the rāśi chart. In D-12, from L4, Venus is the 9th lord in the 9th, protecting.
  • So he should pray to Venus — Lakṣmī. A Venus mantra, a Lakṣmī mantra, Lakṣmī Aṣṭottara.

Keep Notes When You Change a Time

The teacher saves a note in the chart file: original time 4:05; rectified on the 2008–09 annual TP D-12 and the mother's illness.

"It is a good idea to keep some notes, otherwise you will get confused, especially as you see hundreds of charts."

Without the note, when a later event points the other way you will not know why you moved the time.

Example chart

Lagna: Virgo

Question (April 2009): she is 24. Matches came close and broke several times. The student who brought the chart had predicted marriage towards the end of 2009 and wants the class's view.

Rāśi Chart — No Problem

  • No special daśā condition applies; use Vimśottarī.
  • The 7th lord Jupiter is in his own mūlatrikoṇa sign, in a kendra, in the 4th house of sukha, with the 9th lord Venus, kāraka of marriage. The Upapada (UL) is in that same sign. "A nice rāja yoga in UL."
  • No planet occupies the 7th. Jupiter and Venus have their three-quarter graha dṛṣṭi on it (the 4th from them); both are natural benefics, one the 7th lord, the other the kāraka. Not bad.
  • The Moon aspects the 7th lord by graha dṛṣṭi; he is the 11th lord of fulfilment. Not bad.
  • At 24 this is not late. The only worry is the matches that broke.

Navāṁśa at the Given Time (Cancer Navāṁśa Lagna)

  • Navāṁśa lagna is close to a border: it changes 3 min 39 s earlier, or 10 min 9 s later.
  • 8th house: Rāhu (its lord) with Mars. In a woman's chart the 8th shows māṅgalya; this is not good. The strong Upapada in rāśi offsets it.
  • 7th lord Saturn is in the 11th with Venus, the 11th lord and kāraka. Very good.
  • Lagna lord Moon is in the 12th with the Sun. Not that bad.
  • Daśā: Saturn mahādaśā, Jupiter antardaśā, Rāhu pratyantardaśā — the last one.
    • Saturn, 7th lord with Venus in navāṁśa, "better give marriage".
    • Jupiter is UL lord with Venus in rāśi and 9th lord aspecting the 9th in navāṁśa. A good chance.
    • But the pratyantardaśās that could have given it — Venus, Moon, even Mars — have gone without marriage. Rāhu, the 8th lord, is not a strong candidate.
    • Mercury, whose mahādaśā comes next, is the 12th lord in the 6th in this navāṁśa and is in the 12th from UL in rāśi. Not a strong giver either.
  • If Saturn's daśā passes without marriage, the time is very likely wrong. "Who will keep time at 3:45 AM?" Try the earlier navāṁśa.

Time Rectification via D-24

Moving the time changes only the navāṁśa and the caturviṁśāṁśa (D-24). So test it on education: she has a B.Tech in computer science.

At 3:45 AM — D-24 lagna Scorpio:

  • The 9th house (bachelor's education) is Cancer. Venus aspects it; Saturn has a three-quarter graha dṛṣṭi on it.
  • The 9th lord Moon is in the 8th with the Sun — the Moon's maraṇa kāraka sthāna. Such a person may even drop out.
  • Its ārūḍha falls in Taurus.
  • Sun and Moon would give some other education — music, medicine — not computer science. Only Mercury's argala on the 9th points that way. Mars in lagna shows aggressive learning, not the subject.

3 min 40 s earlier — D-24 lagna Libra:

  • The 9th house is Gemini; its lord is Mercury. "It makes perfect sense. Mercury is the planet for computer science — Ketu and Mercury."
  • He subtracts by hand to 3:41:20 AM and saves a note: original 3:45; rectified on D-24 (engineering) and D-9 (delay).
  • Later he adds that the time is wrong by at least 3 min 40 s, and could be more.

Navāṁśa at the Rectified Time (Gemini Navāṁśa Lagna)

  • Sun and Moon are in lagna — Amāvāsyā Yoga. "Sun and Moon in lagna is never good." Some problem.
  • But the 7th is strong. The 7th lord Jupiter is in a kendra, the 4th house of happiness, exchanging signs with Mercury. Lagna lord Mercury is in the 7th. A 4th–7th, sukha–vivāha exchange: a happy marriage.
  • Mars and Rāhu now fall in the 9th. Asked about them at the end: not great, nothing to worry about. "There is enough blessings from Mercury–Jupiter."

Why It Has Not Happened Yet

  • Mercury's daśā has not come. Mercury is lagna lord in the 7th and dispositor of the 7th lord. If this is the navāṁśa, Mercury has to give the marriage, provided his daśā comes at the right age.
  • Saturn could also give it — he is 9th lord and Upapada lord — but he is in the 12th and is 8th lord as well. Mercury is the clear favourite.
  • Mercury–Mercury itself can give it. Mercury's daśā starts within a few months.

Navāṁśa Nārāyaṇa Daśā

  • It starts from Taurus. Virgo daśā is running (November 2005 – November 2014). Virgo is owned by the lagna lord who sits in the 7th, and is occupied by the 7th lord. A fit daśā for marriage.
  • First third — results of the sign itself. Virgo is the 4th house. It keeps you happy if you are already married; it is not the period that gives marriage.
  • Middle third (Nov 2008 – Nov 2011) — results of occupants and aspecting planets: Jupiter in Virgo; Sun and Moon by rāśi dṛṣṭi from Gemini. Order by degree: Moon (28°, ahead), Sun (28°), Jupiter (17°). One year each:
    • 2008–09: Moon
    • 2009–10: Sun
    • 2010–11: Jupiter — the 7th lord. the native is likely here.
  • Last third (Nov 2011 – Nov 2014) — results of the lord, Mercury.
  • By antardaśā: Gemini stands out; Taurus is a maybe.
  • Both approaches point to 2010, middle to second half, into 2011.

Tithi Praveśa Charts — Which Year

  • 2008–09 (current year): some chance, not much. The 7th of the TP rāśi holds the 8th lord.
  • 2009–10 (begins November 2009): the strongest.
    • The 9th, 10th and 11th lords are together in the 7th house of the TP navāṁśa — Mercury, Moon and Sun.
    • The lagna lord and 7th lord are together.
    • The natal navāṁśa has Sun and Moon in lagna with Mercury aspecting from the 7th. The annual chart repeats Sun–Moon–Mercury on the lagna–7th axis. A natal combination that recurs in the annual chart brings the event.
    • Horā lord of the year: Mars — 7th lord in the TP navāṁśa, 9th lord of dharma in the TP rāśi.
    • Mercury: 7th lord in the TP rāśi; 9th lord in the 7th in the TP navāṁśa. He is with Venus, lord of the Vivāha Sahama (8°47' Taurus), and has a three-quarter graha dṛṣṭi on the sahama itself.
  • 2010–11: horā lord Venus. Navāṁśa lagna Aries, on a gaṇḍānta. Lagna lord Mars in the 5th, 7th lord Venus in the 10th, 9th lord Jupiter in Guru–Cāṇḍāla Yoga. Weaker.

"The lagna lord, 7th lord being together is a giveaway. We have seen it in many charts — lagna lord, 7th lord being together in the year of marriage."

Prediction

  • Within the 2009–10 annual chart the candidate periods are Mars (horā lord) and Mercury, which come one after the other. Moon (10th lord in the 7th — the ceremony) and Sun (11th lord in the 7th) cannot be ruled out; people do marry in Māgha and Phālguna. Venus is possible but not strong.
  • Window: January 12 to June 13, 2010 — the months after Saṅkrānti.
  • Strongest: Mercury's period — second half of April, May, first half of June. He ties the 7th of rāśi to the 9th and the 7th of navāṁśa.
  • Message for the parents: nothing to panic about. It has not happened because the time has not come, not because something is wrong. Probably early next year; April–May is very good.

"One thing I can say is her marriage will be basically happy, because Navamsa has Mercury and Jupiter in the 4th and 7th houses with Parivartana. That definitely shows happy marriage."

Remedy

  • A student proposes Viṣṇu Sahasranāma because Mercury's daśā is coming. The teacher agrees.
  • The UL has Venus and Jupiter, so something for them could be given too. He says stick to Mercury: lagna lord of the rāśi chart, lagna lord in the 7th of navāṁśa, and his daśā begins in a few months.
  • Chant every Wednesday, or every day.

Closing Advice

"Your prediction can only be as good as your data."

  • Get as much information from the person as you can and validate the chart with it.
  • The principles are not black and white. Some things can be said with confidence, others not. Look at several factors, reconcile them, then predict.
