D6 Case (1983): Ketu+Saturn(8L)=Bhadaka Sthana=Health Problems; D30 NEW Setting: UNCHECK "Map 1 Degree to 30 Degrees" (Better Empirical Results, Vinay Jha Method); D30 Sun-Mercury=Bhadaka Lord in Bhadaka Sthana=Kidney 2008; D12 Grandparents="9th from 4th Doesn't Work Consistently"=OPEN RESEARCH QUESTION
The 2008 kidney infection read in D-6 and D-30. In D-6, Ketu daśā had just begun: Ketu sits with Saturn and both 8th lords in the 11th from Cancer, which in Ṣaṣṭhāṁśa is read as the bādhaka sthāna and not as the house of gains. For D-30 the teacher first changes a software setting: uncheck "Map each 1 degree in Rasi to 30 degrees in D30", so each unequal part of the sign is prorated as a whole. The D-30 daśā is then Sun–Mercury, and Mercury is the bādhaka lord in the bādhaka sthāna aspecting the 6th and 8th lords in lagna. The health outlook follows, then the D-12 question of the maternal grandfather, which the teacher leaves open because the 9th from the 4th is not consistent. The reading ends with marriage timing in D-9 (Vimśottarī, Chara daśā, Jupiter and node transits, the 2011 Tithi Praveśa), children in D-7, and Durgā as the remedy for a weak Amāvāsyā Moon.
Key principle
Bādhaka lord in bādhaka sthāna can certainly give health problems. Moreover, he aspects the 8th and 6th lords.
Example Chart
D12 Dwadasamsa — Maternal Grandfather (January 2002)
- D-12 Vimśottarī: Saturn–Mercury.
- The obvious reference is the 9th from the 4th. But there are several candidates: the 9th house from the 4th house, the 9th lord from the 4th lord, and so on.
- The class has read parents many times, and their siblings, but not grandparents since simplifying its approach.
- The 9th from the 4th does not explain Mercury here.
- It also fails on principle. If the 9th from the 4th showed mother's father, it would show father's mother too. The two would always be read from the same house.
"Simply taking the 9th from 4th doesn't work in this case. As a matter of fact, if you try several other charts also, it's not really consistent."
- Maybe the mother is the 4th but her father is counted from A4 or from the 4th lord. The teacher refuses to conclude from one or two charts. Left open.
D6 Shashthamsa — Health
- D-6 lagna and Moon are together in Cancer.
- D-6 Vimśottarī: Ketu daśā had just begun in 2008 when the trouble started.
- Ketu is the 5th lord, but that is not what decides him.
"For Rāhu–Ketu, where they are and who they are with. For other planets it is what they own."
- Placement: the 11th house, where he is a malefic.
- Company: Saturn, the 7th and 8th lord, a slight benefic.
- Net: Ketu is a slight malefic.
- The heavier point: in Ṣaṣṭhāṁśa the 11th from Cancer is not read as the house of gains. It is the bādhaka sthāna, and that is a very bad place. Both 8th lords are in it with him.
- From Sun he is with the 6th lord.
- The 8th lordship makes the trouble sudden, not recurring. Bādhaka also shows things that come suddenly and are hard to diagnose.
D30 Trimsamsa — Health Analysis + New Calculation Option
The calculation option
- In Jagannatha Hora: Preferences → divisional chart calculation options. Keep the standard Triṁśāṁśa selected. Below it is a checkbox, "Map each 1 degree in Rasi to 30 degrees in D30". Uncheck it.
- Parāśara divides a sign into five unequal parts, each mapped to one sign.
- Unchecked: the whole part is mapped to its sign. The longitude inside D-30 runs from the start of that part to its end, prorated over 30°.
- Checked (the old default, and what the teacher had been using): every single degree of the part is treated as a full 30° of the sign.
- The choice changes the longitudes inside D-30, and with them the D-30 Vimśottarī daśā.
"What Vinay Jha uses is basically the whole division being mapped to the rāśi. And when I was working on natal as well as mundane charts, I found much better results with the D-30 when I used the other approach."
- This is his recommendation going forward. The default will change in the next revision of the software.
The kidney infection in D-30
- With the box checked the D-30 daśā in May 2008 read Mars–Venus. Unchecked, it is Sun–Mercury.
- D-30 lagna is Sagittarius, with Moon and Venus in it.
- Sun: 9th lord but debilitated, so weak. Some problems are possible in his daśā. The whole Sun daśā was not bad. The antardaśā triggered it.
- Mercury: bādhaka lord in the bādhaka sthāna (Gemini). That can certainly give health problems.
- He aspects the 8th lord Moon and the 6th lord Venus in lagna, both bad there. So he controls the 6th, the 8th and the bādhaka.
- He is in own house and is the strongest planet in the chart.
Health from here
- D-30: Moon daśā is running. Moon is the 8th lord in lagna. Not a good daśā for health.
- D-6: Ketu is still running, still in the bādhaka sthāna. Venus follows: in the 12th house of hospitalisation, aspecting the 6th house, and bādhaka lord. Not great either.
- Rāśi: Moon daśā. As 4th lord in lagna he is passable. But this is an Amāvāsyā Moon: nearly empty, highly vāta, unstable, and aspected by Saturn. That gives a proneness to depression and sadness.
- Next in Rāśi is Mars: lagna lord and 8th lord, aspecting the 8th house. Some concern, but he is the lagna lord, so nothing as serious.
- Verdict: some suffering for another year and a half. Much better from May 2013. Careful until then.
D9 Navamsa — Timing the Marriage
- The lagna is in the middle of its navāṁśa, so D-9 has plenty of leeway. D-9 lagna is Leo. Moon is in Virgo, Sun in Sagittarius.
D-9 Vimśottarī: Rāhu–Mercury
- Rāhu: from lagna he is the 7th lord. From Moon he is the 6th lord in the 3rd house, aspecting the 7th. From Sun he is the 3rd lord in the 12th, which shows nothing. Fair from two references. Marriage is possible in Rāhu daśā, but it is a long daśā.
- Saturn (a student's suggestion): 7th lord only from lagna. Nothing from Sun or Moon.
- Mercury, running now: 7th lord from Sun, lagna lord from Moon. From lagna he is the 2nd lord of family in the 3rd house, a kāma trikoṇa, and (a student's point, accepted) he aspects the 9th house.
- Some scope in the next year and a half, but not strongly shown.
Chara daśā of D-9: Sagittarius
Judge a daśā sign two ways.
- From lagna: Sagittarius is the 5th house of pūrva puṇya and holds the lagna lord Sun. It can give marriage.
- As lagna: its lord Jupiter and its 9th lord Sun are together in it, a rāja yoga in lagna. The 7th lord Mercury is in the 11th house of fulfilment.
- No antardaśā is used here. Take the daśā sign as lagna and watch transits over it: the lagna, the 7th house and their lords. A lord exalted, in own sign, or aspecting his sign is auspicious.
- Mercury changes sign every month, so ignore him. Jupiter is the key. At the marriage he will be linked with Sagittarius or with Gemini.
- Jupiter is now in Aries, the 5th from Sagittarius, aspecting it. The lagna lord aspecting lagna is very auspicious. So now is one window.
- Jupiter in Gemini, the 7th, a year to a year and a half later in 2013, is the other.
Rāhu and Ketu on their natal navāṁśa signs
- This is a general principle, not part of Chara daśā.
- Rāhu and Ketu are the planets of change. When they transit, in the Rāśi sky, the signs they hold in a natal divisional chart, that area of life sees a big change.
- In the natal D-9 they are in Scorpio and Taurus. They are transiting Scorpio and Taurus now. That is conducive to marriage in the next year to year and a half.
Tithi Praveśa of 2011
- The 2011 annual chart shows both strength and weakness. The 8th house is involved, which can also mean a sudden event. There is a rāja yoga involving the 7th lord. Mars and Saturn afflict the lagna lord Mercury, and Mars is in exchange with Venus, a bad exchange.
- Mercury, Venus and Jupiter are the three planets that can give marriage this year.
- The 2012 chart, checked for comparison, is less impressive. The current year is the better one, though most of it has passed.
- In the annual chart's D-9 daśā: Mercury is running and is conducive. Ketu follows and is not. Venus runs from the end of February to the middle of May, a solid two and a half months, and is conducive. Venus matters more than Jupiter here: he is with the 7th lord and is also the dispositor of the lagna lord Mercury. Jupiter's period is already over.
"This is not a clear case like you say, ah, that's it. There are weaknesses as well as strengths. But there is a pretty good chance, there is a 60–70% chance of marriage before the birthday."
- It may be arranged suddenly because of the 8th house. But he is in the US and the wedding would be in India, so some notice is needed.
D7 Saptamsa — Children, and the Remedy
Children
- No timing here, only strengths and weaknesses.
- D-7 lagna is Cancer with Moon and Rāhu in it.
- Lagna lord in lagna is a blessing. But he is a weak Amāvāsyā Moon and the 8th lord Rāhu eclipses him. That is the weakness.
- 5th lord Mars is in the 5th house: very powerful. Saturn is with him, but Saturn is not a bad planet in this chart.
- The kāraka Jupiter is in an adhimitra sign.
- So the 5th house is strong. He will have good children. They will give him some tension: perhaps their health.
- D-7 Vimśottarī brings Moon daśā from 2018. If he marries in 2012 or 2013, that falls when the children are small. Moon with Rāhu in lagna is a worried mind.
Remedy
- A remedy is chosen from the divisional chart of the area concerned.
- For Moon with Rāhu in D-7: worship Durgā. Chant the Caṇḍī Saptaśatī or the Durgā Saptaślokī for the children's welfare. Start after the wife is pregnant, not now.
- Overall the Moon is the weakest planet of this chart: Amāvāsyā, and aspected by Saturn. For health the problem is Moon and Saturn.
- For the Moon, worship the Divine Mother. Moon in a sign of Mars: a warrior goddess. Moon with Rāhu: Durgā.
"Durgā, I think, will cover everything — health, children, it will cover various things."
- Ārūḍhas were not used in this reading. Whether he stays in the US was not his question and was not examined.
