An Aries-lagna chart with a recorded birth time of 7:15 PM is rectified to 7:08 PM, each event closing the window a little: the body (Aries, not Taurus), the marriage, the career, the mother's death, the education. Marriage in August 1997: the natal Jupiter–Ketu period is possible, but the Tithi Pravesha chart of 1996 decides — its navamsa lagna must be Gemini, not Cancer, which makes the year's dasha lord Jupiter the 7th lord in the 5th house; the D-9 Vimshottari gives Jupiter–Venus, Venus being the 6th lord debilitated in the natal navamsa and in the 9th from Jupiter. Going to the US in February 1998, Jupiter–Venus in D-4: Jupiter is the 12th lord in the 9th with Rahu, Venus is in the badhaka sthana in a watery sign exchanging with the badhaka lord Mars, and is the 9th lord aspecting the 9th from Jupiter taken as lagna. Parents in D-12: the mother's death under Saturn–Mercury (Mercury the 2nd lord in the 2nd from the 4th house, with the 7th lord Mars) and under Rahu in the Tithi Pravesha chart of 2008; the father's death read from the Sun in the Tithi Pravesha chart of 2010, because that lagna holds Moon, Mars and Rahu — a broken house — and from the 9th from the Sun Rahu is the 2nd lord in the 3rd with the 7th lord. The page ends with the native's question about living away from home, answered from Saturn in the 12th in D-1 and D-4.
Key principle
We always say 2nd lord in 3rd, 3rd lord in 2nd, 7th lord in 8th, 8th lord in 7th. These are killer combinations. So here the 2nd lord is in the 3rd house. Moreover, he is with Moon, the 7th lord, the other killer. So two killers are in the 3rd house.
Example Chart
The Example Chart and Its Birth Time
Born 21 October 1968, evening, in India (5h30m east of GMT). The native is a student of the class.
- Seven years earlier the class had cast the chart for 6:31 PM. That was the native's guess; his mother had only said "sometime in the evening".
- He has since found old birth papers that record 7:15 PM. The same time was used for his marriage matching.
- PVNR starts at 7:15 PM and looks in its vicinity: "That may need some rectification, but hopefully not by 45 minutes."
Lagna: Aries, not Taurus
- At 6:31 and at 7:15 the lagna is Aries. At 7:15 it is at the very end; 4 minutes 18 seconds later it becomes Taurus.
- The native is stout, neither thin nor fat, bald, with a large head, and his behaviour is fiery. "Looking at you, people can tell that you are a pitta person."
- Taurus would be aspected here by its own lord Venus and by Jupiter. That gives kapha: fat or stout, big eyes, lustrous skin, thick hair. He has none of these. Pisces is ruled out as well.
- So the birth is before 7:19:18 PM.
- Between 6:31 and 7:15 the Moon moves from Virgo to the first degree of Libra. The nakṣatra stays Chitrā; the daśā dates shift by a few months. At 6:31 four planets were in Virgo.
The windows, event by event
| Step | Chart used | Finding | Window (PM) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Body | D-1 | Aries lagna | before 7:19:18 |
| Marriage, Aug 1997 | Tithi Praveśa 1996, navāṁśa | Gemini lagna, not Cancer | up to 7:13:30 (Gemini holds for about 14 minutes before that) |
| To the US, Feb 1998 | D-4 | Capricorn lagna either way | no change |
| Career | D-10 | Sagittarius, not Capricorn | 7:00 – 7:08 |
| Mother, Nov 2008 | Tithi Praveśa 2008, D-12 | Taurus, not Aries | 7:03:30 – 7:08 |
| Father, Oct 2011 | Tithi Praveśa 2010, D-12 | read from the Sun, so the lagna is not tested | no change |
| Education | D-24 | Taurus, not Aries | 7:05:15 – 7:08 |
- Rectified time: 7:08 PM. It cannot be before 7:05:15 PM.
- Why the late end of the window: "It is already rectified backwards by 7 minutes. We don't want to change it too much from the given time." It could be 7:06 or 7:07; there is no logic to disprove those.
- At 7:08 the D-10 and D-20 lagnas are 2 seconds short of changing sign.
What the site's chart shows differently
- The chart on this page is cast 10 seconds before 7:08 PM, so that the D-10 lagna (Sagittarius) and D-20 lagna (Virgo) fall as in class. At 7:08:00 exactly this engine is already past that border.
- PVNR uses true nodes. This engine's Rāhu is at 14°59′ Pisces, just short of 15°, where he has it just past. So the site shows Rāhu in Gemini in D-4 (class: Virgo, with Jupiter), Rāhu in Pisces and Ketu in Virgo in D-10 (class: Rāhu in Aries with Mars, Ketu in Libra with the Moon), the nodes in Taurus in D-20 (class: in the 10th, Gemini), and the nodes in Gemini in D-24 (the class does not have them there). The notes below follow the class.
Marriage — Rāśi Daśā, Tithi Praveśa and D-9
Married at the end of August 1997.
Natal Viṁśottarī: Jupiter–Ketu
Read in the natal navāṁśa (Sagittarius lagna):
- Jupiter is the navāṁśa lagna lord. He and the 7th lord Mercury aspect each other (Capricorn and Cancer). He can give marriage.
- Ketu is the 12th lord in the 6th house (Taurus) — a Viparīta Rāja Yoga — and Jupiter aspects him (5th aspect).
- From the daśā lord Jupiter as lagna, Ketu is in a trine and is the 11th lord (Scorpio) aspecting the 11th. The 11th is the fructification of desires; he can give the gain of marriage.
- Verdict: Jupiter–Ketu is possible.
Tithi Praveśa of 1996
The Tithi Aṣṭottarī daśā (the daśā of the Tithi Praveśa year chart) running at the marriage is Jupiter's. The navāṁśa of the year chart is on a lagna border.
- With birth at 7:15 PM the year navāṁśa has Cancer lagna. Jupiter is then the 9th and 6th lord in the 4th. As 9th lord he is 8th from the 9th; he is the 6th lord of separation; he has no link with the 7th lord Saturn. The lagna holds Mercury and Venus as malefic lords (3rd, 12th, 11th) along with the yogakāraka Mars. "We won't have expected marriage in this year."
- Moving the birth 1 minute 29 seconds earlier (7:13:30) makes the year navāṁśa lagna Gemini. The daśā is still Jupiter's.
- Now Jupiter is the 7th lord in the 5th house — the house of pūrva puṇya, blessings from earlier good deeds — and he is the kāraka. Lagna lord Mercury and 5th lord Venus are within 9° of each other and form a Rāja Yoga; Mars, 20° away from Mercury, hardly touches it. The 6th lord Mars is debilitated, and the debilitation of a malefic lord is a good thing.
- So the birth is not after 7:13:30. Gemini holds for another 13 minutes 47 seconds going back, so the event is explained anywhere from a little before 7:00 to 7:13:30.
D-9 Viṁśottarī: Jupiter–Venus
Because the Moon is at the very beginning of Libra, he is in Libra in D-1, D-4 and D-9 alike, so the Viṁśottarī of these charts mostly coincide.
- The D-9 Viṁśottarī in August 1997 is Jupiter–Venus. With the time moved, the antardaśā at the marriage is Venus, not Ketu.
- Venus is the kāraka of marriage.
- From the navāṁśa lagna (Sagittarius) he is the 6th lord, debilitated in Virgo: problems and opposition melt away.
- From the daśā lord Jupiter (Capricorn) he is in the 9th house of fortune, and he is the dispositor of the 7th lord from Jupiter, the Moon in Libra.
- "He makes even more sense than Ketu."
Going Abroad and Living Away — D-4
D-4 is the chart of relocation and residence. Lagna Capricorn. The lagna changes 22 minutes earlier or 5 minutes later, so this chart does not narrow the time.
To the US, 4 February 1998 — Jupiter–Venus
Jupiter–Venus by the rāśi Viṁśottarī, and the same by the D-4 Viṁśottarī.
Jupiter
- 12th lord: leaving the motherland for a faraway place.
- In the 9th house (Virgo): prospering abroad.
- With Rāhu, the significator of anything foreign — anything different from the culture one was brought up in. (True nodes; see Part 6.)
"Jupiter is with Rāhu in the 9th house, and he is the 12th lord. So this is a slam dunk case."
Venus
- 5th lord in Scorpio aspecting the 5th (graha dṛṣṭi, 7th aspect on Taurus): fortune. But the 5th alone does not say "abroad".
- The factors for going abroad: Rāhu, the 9th, 12th and 7th houses, and the bādhaka sthāna.
- For a movable lagna the bādhaka sthāna is the 11th. Venus is in the 11th from Capricorn, Scorpio, and it is a watery sign; watery signs favour foreign travel.
- The bādhaka lord Mars is in Taurus, Venus's sign. Venus and Mars exchange signs.
- "Never forget to take the daśā lord as lagna" to judge the antardaśā. From Jupiter in Virgo, Venus is the 9th lord aspecting the 9th.
The native's question: two months a year away from home
Since his marriage he has spent at least two months of every year away from home; in the last five years, a full year in total. He asks whether this can be undone.
- PVNR: this is an observation, not a question. He can say why, not that it will change.
- D-1: Saturn daśā has run since March 2006. Saturn is in the 12th house and is the kāraka of the 12th and of hard work. The 12th is the house of compromises, travel, instability, inconvenience and giving ("the 12th is the house of giving, the 11th the house of taking"). The 8th and 12th show instability.
- For about three of those years Saturn has also transited the 12th from the Moon.
- D-4, to see residence specifically: the D-4 Viṁśottarī is also Saturn's, since November 2005. Saturn is the D-4 lagna lord in the 12th house (Sagittarius, a dual sign) and aspects the 9th. Long travels are expected and will go on; Saturn's daśā is not ending soon.
- Remedy: Saturn is with Rāhu in the rāśi chart. Rudra Chamakam, Hanumān Chālīsā, or Saturn's mantra. The native already reads the Hanumān Chālīsā daily; that suits him because lagna lord Mars is in a trine.
- Or simply work hard.
"Saturn loves people who work hard. If you work hard, he doesn't really bother you. Saturn manifests as our discipline, our austerity, our spirit of hard work."
Parents — D-12
D-12 has a border every 2½°. The natal lagna is near 27° Aries, so 25° and 27½° can be tested.
Mother, November 2008 — natal D-12 Viṁśottarī: Saturn–Mercury
The mother is the 4th from the Moon or from the lagna. The Moon is in Libra; the D-12 lagna is Aquarius with its lord Saturn in it, so the lagna is taken. The 4th is Taurus.
- Saturn: from Aquarius his 10th aspect falls on Scorpio, the 7th from Taurus, where his worst enemy the Sun sits. That makes him a māraka, but a weak one. "He doesn't make great sense, but he makes some sense."
- Mercury: 2nd lord from Taurus in the 2nd house (Gemini). Mars, the 7th lord from Taurus, is with him there. Both killers, the 2nd and 7th lords, are together in the 2nd, in Mercury's own sign; as owner of the sign Mercury takes charge. Mercury is a clear māraka.
Father, October 2011 — natal D-12 Viṁśottarī: Saturn–Ketu, on the border of Saturn–Venus
The father is the 9th from the Sun or from the lagna. From the lagna the 9th is Libra.
- Saturn is yogakāraka for Libra, yet he aspects both killer houses from it: the 7th (Aries) by his 3rd aspect and the 2nd (Scorpio) by his 10th. He also aspects the Sun, the significator of the father.
- Ketu is the 2nd lord from Libra (Scorpio). A māraka.
Tithi Praveśa of 2008 (28 October 2008) — mother
- The mother died about 4 November 2008 by the lunar date worked out in class. That falls in Rāhu's Tithi Aṣṭottarī daśā, probably Rāhu–Jupiter.
- The year chart's D-12 lagna is Taurus; a birth 4½ minutes earlier would make it Aries.
- Taurus: the 4th is Leo. From Leo, Rāhu is the 7th lord placed in the 2nd house. "He owns one killer house, he occupies one killer house. So he is a clear killer." Jupiter, the likely antardaśā lord, is the 8th lord from Leo placed in Leo, and the 7th lord from Rāhu.
- Aries: the 4th is Cancer. From Cancer, Rāhu is the 8th lord in the 3rd: suffering, but not death.
- Taurus is right. The birth is between 7:03:30 and 7:08.
Tithi Praveśa of 2010 (6 November 2010) — father
The father died on the third day of Navarātri, around 9 October 2011, suddenly. That is still the year that began on 6 November 2010. The Tithi Aṣṭottarī daśā is Rāhu's (Rāhu–Venus or Rāhu–Sun).
- The year chart's D-12 lagna is Pisces. From the 9th from Pisces, Scorpio, Rāhu is no killer. Nor is he from Libra, the 9th from the previous lagna Aquarius. "But he killed. So something is wrong."
- The father is seen from the 9th from the lagna or from the Sun. Which is stronger? The lagna holds the Moon, Mars and Rāhu together, an eclipsed Moon.
"It's like a bunch of people fighting with each other. Rāhu like a goon, a mafia person, coming and fighting with a couple of people. It's like a broken house."
- The Sun is alone, though not in a friendly sign, and is aspected by Jupiter. Take the Sun.
- The 9th from the Sun is Capricorn. From Capricorn, Rāhu is the 2nd lord in the 3rd house, and with him is the Moon, the 7th lord. Two killers in the 3rd.
"We always say 2nd lord in 3rd, 3rd lord in 2nd, 7th lord in 8th, 8th lord in 7th. These are killer combinations."
- With Rāhu and Ketu things happen suddenly.
- Because the Sun was used and not the lagna, this chart cannot say whether the D-12 lagna is this sign or the previous one. The window stays 7:03:30 – 7:08.
