Baby Chart Analysis (Jan 2007) — Maha Yogada (Sun+Mercury in Lagna), 3 Gandanta Planets & Shashtihayani Dasha
The chart of a day-old girl, Sagittarius lagna, born just after sunrise. 9th lord Sun and 10th lord Mercury sit within half a degree of each other in lagna with Hora Lagna and Ghatika Lagna, so the Dharma-Karma-Adhipati yoga is given by Maha Yogadas. Two conditional dashas qualify, Shashtihayani (Sun in lagna) and Dwisaptati Sama (7th lord in lagna); the teacher explains how to choose and prefers Shashtihayani. Against the promise stand three planets in Gandanta: Saturn deepest, then Mars, who is Atmakaraka and dispositor of the lagna lord, then Moon in the 8th. Mars dasha runs from birth and Moon dasha follows, so the first ten years need care; D6 and D30 confirm it and the D30 elements point to blood. Short readings of D10, D20 and D24 follow.
Key principle
Lagna, lagna lord, Moon, Moon sign lord — these are like the guardians of the chart. One of them is in deep Gandanta, it is worse.

Lagna Analysis — Dharma-Karma-Adhipati Yoga in Lagna
- 9th lord Sun at 21°51' Sagittarius and 10th lord Mercury at 21°24' Sagittarius, both in lagna. Less than half a degree apart.
- No malefic aspect afflicts the yoga.
- Birth was a little after sunrise, so Hora Lagna and Ghatika Lagna are also in Sagittarius. PVNR first allowed that Ghatika Lagna "could be different"; it is in the same sign.
- A planet associated with Lagna and Hora Lagna (occupying, owning or aspecting) is a Yogada for wealth. With Lagna and Ghatika Lagna, a Yogada for authority and position. Sun and Mercury occupy all three, so they are Maha Yogadas.
- Budha-Aditya yoga is also there.
Strength of Sun and Mercury:
- Vaiseshikamsa: Mercury is in Parijatamsa, Sun is not. The strength figures read out were 60% and 69%.
- Ashtakavarga: Sun 4, Mercury 4.
- Sun is in a very friendly sign: by compound relationship Jupiter is his adhimitra.
- Mercury: Jupiter is a permanent neutral, but he is one sign away, so a temporary friend. Overall a friend's sign.
"Those two planets are in either friendly sign or very friendly sign, and they are giving a very strong Rajyoga. So Sun and Mercury, God bless the child."
The yoga made him expect that "she will do some great karmas, some very good karmas."
Dasha Priority — Which Conditional Dasha Applies?
Two conditional dashas qualify:
- Shashtihayani Dasha (60 years): Sun in lagna.
- Dwisaptati Sama Dasha (72 years): 7th lord in lagna. Mercury is the 7th lord.
A third was narrowly missed. The navamsha lagna had just become Scorpio (8 seconds earlier it is the previous navamsha) and about 12 minutes later it would be Sagittarius. A vargottama lagna would have brought in Shatabdika Dasha too. "12 minutes is too much time", so that one does not apply.
The rules for choosing when several apply: the longer dasha gets priority, and the least probable condition gets priority.
- Lagna lord in the 7th or 7th lord in the lagna: 1/12 + 1/12, roughly 1 chart in 6.
- Sun in lagna: 1 chart in 12. And here the birth is very close to sunrise, so Sun dominates more than Mercury.
- On probability Sun wins. On length Mercury wins, but 72 is not much more than 60.
Verdict: "My guess is Shashtihayani Dasha is the dasha. But you can confirm it as the life progresses. Probably both will work, but probably Shashtihayani will work better."
Mercury dasha in both: 2017–2023 in Shashtihayani, 2018–2027 in Dwisaptati Sama. Either way the dasha of the yoga-giving Mercury runs between roughly age 12 and 20. "It looks like some kind of early achiever."
Gandanta Planets
What Parashara mentioned for Gandanta is Lagna and Moon. Extending it to other planets is the class's own extension. So look at Moon first.
| Planet | Position | Depth |
|---|---|---|
| Saturn | Start of Leo, retrograde, about to go back into Cancer | Deepest. Right on the border |
| Mars | End of Scorpio (Jyeshtha), the Scorpio–Sagittarius junction | Deeper than Moon |
| Moon | 26°50' Cancer, the last navamsha of the sign (Ashlesha) | "Not very deep, but it is a Gandanta" |
- The last navamsha of the sign is Gandanta; the last degree is particularly strong.
- Moon: 8th lord in the 8th is not bad for occult work, hard work and sadhana. But the 8th is Moon's Marana Karaka Sthana and he is in Gandanta. "Moon is not really favorable at all." Saturn sits in the next sign, in deep Gandanta, and has argala on Moon.
- Saturn: only the 2nd and 3rd lord, nothing to do with lagna or the 8th by lordship. But he is the karaka of longevity and he is retrograde.
- Mars is the most significant of the three. He is the dispositor of lagna lord Jupiter, he is conjoined with Jupiter, and he is the Atmakaraka. He is in his own sign in the 12th giving Vimala yoga and gives a Rajyoga besides, but that does not remove the problem.
"Lagna, lagna lord, Moon, Moon sign lord — these are like the guardians of the chart. One of them is in deep Gandanta, it is worse."
His comparison: if somebody in the family has cancer there is suffering, but if it is the father or mother the suffering is worse.
Conclusion: be careful in Mars dasha and Moon dasha. In the long term the chart shows a lot of promise.
Lagna Lord — Jupiter in the 12th
- Jupiter is in Scorpio in the 12th with 12th lord Mars. Not great for material yogas, but he is a benefic, so not bad.
- Lagna lord in the 12th with the 12th lord makes the giving very large. "She will give a lot." It can also show a spiritual person.
- Guru-Mangala yoga. Jupiter is vargottama (Scorpio in rasi and navamsha).
- Jupiter is the 1st and 4th lord, Mars the 5th lord: lagna lord with 5th lord and 4th lord with 5th lord, a Rajyoga.
- Jupiter is Pitrukaraka and Mars is Atmakaraka: the two together is also a Rajyoga.
Dasha Assessment — First 10 Years
- Mars dasha (Shashtihayani) runs from birth for the first 4½ to 5 years. The antardasha at birth is Mars–Rahu, with Mars–Jupiter later.
- Moon dasha is next. Moon is in Marana Karaka Sthana and in Gandanta.
- Two dashas in a row show trouble.
"Almost first 10 years are not so good, but after that it is excellent."
A student asked whether the arudha of the 4th house also shows trouble for the mother and for comfort. PVNR: "It could."
Confirmation from Shashthamsha, Trimshamsha and Navamsha
Shashthamsha (D6 — physical health): Moon and Mars are both in the 8th house. The planets that are in Gandanta in rasi, whose dashas are the worry, sit in the 8th. "Not very encouraging."
Trimshamsha (D30): Moon and Mars are both in the 6th house, the house of obstacles, health problems and internal enemies. "Both Mars and Moon are going to give health problems."
"This is a very lucky person, not just lucky but very good chart, very powerful chart, but first 10 years of life are difficult."
Was she born with a problem? Check the lagna in rasi and navamsha. The rasi lagna has no weakness of its own; only the lagna lord is with a Gandanta planet. The navamsha lagna has Jupiter and Ketu. So she was not born with any big problem. She is fine now, but some sickness or other will come.
What kind: Mars gives fevers, wounds, aggressive diseases where a virus takes over, with a lot of suffering. Moon and Mars are both blood planets, so blood-related trouble is possible.
Trimshamsha Elements — Rahu and Ketu Show the Main Weakness
In D30 the element comes from the lord of the sign, not from the sign's usual element. A student objected that Scorpio is a water sign; for this purpose it is Mars's sign, so fire. Cancer and Leo are always empty in Trimshamsha.
| Signs in D30 | Element |
|---|---|
| Saturn's signs | Vayu (air) |
| Jupiter's signs | Akasha (ether) |
| Mars's signs | Agni (fire) |
| Venus's signs (Taurus, Libra) | Jala (water) |
| Mercury's signs (Gemini, Virgo) | Prithvi (earth) |
- Every planet in this chart shows a weakness in the element it occupies. Even Jupiter shows only weakness here, not blessings. An empty Trimshamsha would mean all elements perfect.
- Moon and Mars in Scorpio: fire, the transforming energy. Digestion, vision, any kind of processing, or low energy. But this is not the main weakness.
- Rahu and Ketu are the worst planets in this chart. "Whichever they occupy, they basically beat down on that element, they deplete that element." Here they are in Libra: water. Dehydration, blood-related problems.
- Moon and Mars need not give only fire problems in their dashas. Because they show trouble, they can deliver what Rahu shows.
- Blood came up twice: Moon and Mars in the 8th of D6, and water depleted in D30.
"Some kind of blood problems are possible. They have to be careful."
Dashamsha (D10) — Quick Look
- Sun and Mercury are in the lagna in Dashamsha as well (Cancer lagna).
- Mars, lord of the 5th and 10th and so the yogakaraka, is in Aries in the 10th in his own sign: Ruchaka yoga. Ketu is with him. Mars is in Indramsha.
- Some influential person. Mars with Ketu shows "some hardcore engineering".
- The Dashamsha lagna has only a couple of minutes of leeway in birth time, so this was taken as provisional.
Vimshamsha (D20) — A Very Spiritual Child
- Lagna is Scorpio. The class read lagna lord Mars in the 8th house, the house of sadhana. Mars is at 28°30' Scorpio, exactly on a Vimshamsha boundary. The chart on this page puts him one sign later, in the 9th. The readings here follow the class.
- The 12th house is packed: 7th lord Venus, 10th lord Sun, 5th lord Jupiter and 8th lord Mercury. Three benefics, Mercury, Venus and Jupiter, are there.
- The 8th and 12th houses dominate. "Very spiritual person."
- Moon (Virgo) is aspected by both Saturn (Sagittarius) and Mars (Gemini). Asked which aspect he meant: "Here it is both", rasi drishti and graha drishti. For the desire of the mind give importance to graha drishti.
- Vimshamsha shows how you pursue God. One can search for God as a householder with a family; one can search with the spirit "I don't need all this". Moon in D20 is the mental outlook in that search.
- Mars: aggression, energy, passion, fire.
- Saturn: vairagya, detachment. When Saturn aspects Moon in Vimshamsha there is a lot of renunciation.
"My gut feeling is this is a very precious child. Very spiritual child."
Chaturvimshamsha (D24) — Education in Brief
Taken quickly, assuming the time is right (the D24 lagna holds for about 1½ minutes later and 3½ minutes earlier).
- Lagna is Aquarius. Venus, lord of the 4th and 9th and the yogakaraka, is in the lagna. Lagna lord Saturn is in the 7th and aspects him. A Rajyoga on the lagna axis. "That itself is enough."
- Jupiter is exalted. The 9th house is empty and Jupiter is in a kendra from it, giving Hamsa yoga from the 9th. Later education is strong.
- Weaknesses: Moon, the 6th lord, is in the 3rd, which is not bad, but he is eclipsed (with Rahu and Ketu). Mars in the 4th afflicts early education, and Mars dasha is running, with the health problems of the first 10 years as a further hindrance.
- "More than the early education, later education will be stronger. Education will pick up speed later." Overall a good student and a good learner.
- A student pointed out that Venus suggests arts or sciences while the Dashamsha suggested engineering. PVNR: the 9th house (Libra) also has Mars's rasi drishti and the graha drishti of Rahu, Ketu and Saturn, so there are several influences. People do study one thing and work in another. Subjects themselves will be divided differently in 15–20 years.
