Mantra Shastra — Science of Sound and Devata

A few basics of mantra shastra from the end of the class. A shloka praises the Lord and its exact wording is not critical; a mantra is a fixed pattern of sound given by Maharshis. The number of words in a mantra gives the source house, the number of letters the destination house, and counting the same distance again gives the Devata Sthana. Worked on the Panchakshari: one word and five letters put Shiva in the 9th house as guru, while adding Om or breaking the words shifts the houses. Ends with the warning against tamasic remedies and Kshudra Devata worship, and what mantra, yantra and tantra mean.

Mantra Shastra — How Mantras Work

How a mantra acts on the horoscope: words give the source house, letters the destination house, and the Devata Sthana is where the deity sits. Half-letters are not counted, and words joined by sandhi or samasam count as one. Worked counts for Namo Ramaya, the Brihaspati Gayatri (5-9-1), Maha Mrityunjaya (7-8-9), Parsi, Islamic and Buddhist prayers, and the Panchadashi (3-3-3). Also: N lakh repetitions for an N-letter mantra, choosing a mantra for a weak house, the 3rd house as Devata Sthana for Shakti, and why Rahu and Ketu have no weekday.

Rasi, D60 & D6 Health Analysis — Student Chart (Leo Lagna)

A student's Leo-lagna chart read live in class. The rasi chart is read planet by planet with the D-60 amsa each planet occupies: Saturn in lagna in Sarpa, Rahu in the 8th in Ghora, the 10th lord Venus in Kshitisha, lagna lord Sun in Deva, 12th lord Moon in Amrita, and a dharma-karmadhipati yoga in the 10th through the Mercury–Venus parivartana. For his health PVNR starts Vimshottari from lagna, finds Rahu dasha running with Rahu in A6, and goes to D-6: Rahu, Ketu and the Sun together in the 11th, the Hara sthana. Saturn and Mercury antardashas involve the badhaka sthana of D-6, Ketu gives no relief, and the D-6 lagna lord Venus, with argala on the afflicting planets, ends the trouble. Body parts are taken from the natural zodiac; the remedy is Aditya Hridayam.

D7 Children, Palana Devata & Curses from Past Life

One child read from a parent’s Saptamsha: count to the 5th sign (backward for an even lagna) for the first child, then take the sign occupied by its lord as that child’s lagna. Done on the annual chart, where the child’s lagna in the 8th shows the parent missing him, and on the natal chart, where four planets in a kendra give Parivrajya Yoga and Saturn, Venus and Ketu give Tapasya Yoga. Palana Devata, the deity of livelihood, is the 6th from the Amatyakaraka in navamsa. Curses from the past life: which afflictions by graha drishti make a wife’s, mother’s, father’s, maternal uncle’s or Brahmana’s curse, why Moola Dasa times them, and what the Shashtyamsa of the Moola Dasa lord adds.

Curses from Past Life — Afflictions as Karmic Debts

When someone is out of work or blocked for a long time, check whether a curse from a past life has become active. A curse is read from the karaka, the house and its lord all being afflicted by Mars, Saturn, Rahu or Ketu through occupation or graha drishti: Venus and the 7th for the wife, Moon and the 4th for the mother, Sun and the 9th for the father, Mercury and the 6th for the maternal uncle, and Jupiter under two malefics for a learned person. Mars shows a curse given in anger, Saturn in sorrow, Rahu or Ketu in shock. It bears fruit when the Moola dasha of the afflicting planet runs, and the Shashtyamsha of that planet shows the karma it carries. These notes come from the previous class and its chart; the page ends with the principles of this lesson.

Palana Devata & Jyotirlinga Mantras for Career

Two remedies for career. The Palana Devata, who guards food and resources, is a form of the Divine Mother: in the Navamsa take the 6th sign from the Amatyakaraka, then the planet in it, or its lord if it is empty, and worship the Mother's form for that planet. For recognition and progress at work, worship Shiva as the Jyotirlinga of the 5th lord of the Dasamsa, with Om Namah Shivaya followed by the Jyotirlinga's name. Both tables are given for all nine planets. For the student: Tripura Sundari to protect the job, and the Kaleshwara mantra 108 times each morning for standing at work.

Remedial Measures — Gems, Mantras, Pujas & Sura/Asura Planet Groups

Pujas and mantras are a sattvic remedy; gems are a rajasic one — a bigger loan taken to pay off a loan — and the gem of the 6th or 8th lord should not be worn, though praying to those lords is fine. Mantras themselves are sattvic, rajasic or tamasic by the intent behind them. For gems the class covers the metal for each planet, following the Sura group (Sun, Moon, Mars, Jupiter — gold) and the Asura group (Mercury, Venus, Saturn, Rahu, Ketu — silver); the finger, chosen by purushartha and not by the mounts of palmistry; the two views on right and left hand; and when to prescribe by the chart, by the daśā, or to have a ring taken off. It opens with what āvāhana means when a deity is invoked in a lamp or idol, and closes with the deities for the student's health: Durga for the Rahu daśā and Dakshinamurti for Jupiter in Sun's sign in the 9th.

Satya and Maya in Jyotish — Philosophical Foundation & Remedial Principles

Houses and house lords are Satya, the permanent reality; arudhas are what manifests in Maya. A house lord is the one universal intelligence — Narayana — applied to the matters of that house, so the 7th lord is the native's intelligence and the spouse's alike. The arudha of a house lord (L1, L2 …) is that intelligence appearing as a separate person, which is why thinking and feeling are read from graha arudhas and status from the Arudha Lagna. The remedies follow from the same chart: a Saturday fast and Venkateshwara for an upapada in Saturn's sign, a Wednesday fast and Krishna for one in Gemini with the Moon, Ganesha and Vishnu on Fridays for Mercury with Ketu. Mental peace comes before saving the marriage, and an astrologer does not advise divorce.

Spirituality in D20, 4H from AK, Gem Remedies & Drig Dasha Introduction

No single planet makes a spiritual person: Jupiter gives the jnani, Sun the atma-jnani, Saturn the yogi and ascetic, Moon compassion, Mars the forceful sadhaka, Ketu the one close to moksha. The Moon–Saturn combination runs from simplicity and vairagya to depression, decided by closeness, Jupiter’s aspect, Saturn’s lordship and D-30. In D-20, the chart of upasana, the planet in the 4th from Atmakaraka shows the marga the soul wants (Jupiter or Sun: Vedic jnana; Moon, Mercury or Venus: bhakti; Saturn: yoga and kriya), while the 5th and 9th from Lagna show what the person actually practises. PVNR offers this as his own finding from 20–25 charts. A first mention of Drig Dasa, which starts from the 9th house and is auspicious in a sign holding or aspected by Ketu. Gems are a rajasic loan and prayer is risk-free: which lords’ gems to avoid and which may be worn.

Sachin Tendulkar — Annual TP 1998–2009 & Beeja Aksharas

Six of Sachin Tendulkar's annual Tithi Pravesha charts read against what happened. 1998: Hora lord Saturn, the 3rd lord debilitated in the 6th, and back-to-back centuries at Sharjah in his dasha. 1999: his father's death, read from A9 in the Dvadasamsa — physical death destroys the inanimate maya, so the house arudha is the reference, and the 8th lord from it sits in the 7th. 2003–04: a full Viparita Raja Yoga with Gajakesari in the 12th of the Dasamsa ends a year-long slump. 2005: surgery and a short break. Then two predictions made in class — a peak from November 2006 when Rahu enters Aquarius, and a celebrated retirement in 2009–10. The page ends with the bija aksharas: Ra for Pingala, La for Ida, the vowels, and the Dakshinamurti mantra for clarity.

D60 Shashtiamsha — Four Levels of Karma, Past Life & Moola Dasha

A gemstone or any rajasic remedy only postpones karma, like paying a debt with a bank loan; sattvic remedies and penance burn it. Karma works at four levels — individual, family, society, universal — in decreasing order of importance. The Rasi chart is the physical existence, the other divisional charts are the environments around it, and the Shashtiamsa (D-60) is the karma from all past lives that is discharged through them, which is why it outweighs Rasi and Navamsa combined in Dasavarga Vimsopaka. The Arudha Lagna of D-60 is read as the lagna of the immediately previous life, and Moola Dasha times the karma shown from the D-60 lagna. D-60 lagna changes every two minutes of birth time, so it is the last step, used only after the other charts are rectified.

Deity Recommendations from Chart Analysis

The class ends with two things for the native to do. The Palana Devata, for livelihood and material life, is read from the 6th house from Amatyakaraka in the Navamsa: Mars is there, so a fiery form of the Divine Mother — Bagalamukhi, Chandi or Chamundi. For career, the Jyotirlinga of the 5th lord of the Dasamsa is worshipped: the 5th lord is Moon, in marana karaka sthana, so Somanatha, with the mantra Om Namah Shivaya Namah Somanathaya. PVNR also separates the three roles: a Vishnu avatar as Ishta Devata for moksha, a Devi form for the material plane, a form of Shiva for career.

Panchanga 5 Tattvas, Nakshatra Suktam & Special Nakshatras from Moon

The five limbs of the panchanga stand for the five elements: tithi is water (prosperity, happiness, connectedness), vara is fire (life force, longevity), nakshatra is air (kinetic energy), yoga is ether (binds the other four), karana is earth. Space was created first and Vayu next, so a disturbed Vayu — tension, anxiety, things that will not get moving — is treated through the nakshatra, ahead of tithi and karana. The remedy is the Nakshatra Suktam: 28 Vedic mantras, one for the deity of each nakshatra (Abhijit included), running from Krittika to Bharani; the class reads Krittika (Agni) and Rohini (Prajapati). Which nakshatra to propitiate: one of the special nakshatras counted from natal Moon on the 28-nakshatra scheme — Janma, Karma (10th, career), Manasa, Abhisheka (26th, power), Vainashika — or the nakshatra of an important planet, such as a Jupiter in Ashlesha whose Hamsa yoga is not working. A wrong choice still does only good.

Palana Devata, Healing via 4th House & Dasa Mahavidya — 10 Divine Mothers Mapped to Planets

The remedy for the alcoholism chart. Ishta Devata, read from the Ātmakāraka in Navāṁśa, is for moksha; for a trouble of sustenance the teacher takes the Palana Devata — the 6th from the Amātyakāraka in Navāṁśa — and finds Saturn in its own sign there. He cross-checks with the house of healing, the 4th (mother nurses the sick; Moon is its kāraka): the 4th lord Venus is in a sign of Saturn. Saturn is Kali among the Dasa Mahavidyas, so the remedy is prayer to Kali, and Venus in the 4th from the Ātmakāraka in Navāṁśa shows the Mother’s blessing is already there. The page gives the full mapping of the nine planets and lagna to the ten Mahavidyas, sāttvik against tantric worship, how the family should start the remedy, the helpful antardaśās, and the books to trust.

Kali Upasana Indicators, Shadripu & 8th Lord in Trine House

Addiction is a weakness and belongs to the 6th house, the ṣaḍripus; which weakness it is shows in D-30 and D-11 — Venus badly placed in D-11 gives a weakness for women. An 8th lord in the 5th: the 8th house gains, but a malefic in a trine takes that house’s resources for 8th-lord work and pollutes it; the saving factor in the example is a strong 5th lord Mars aspecting the 5th. Kali upasana is shown by Saturn with Moon, or Mars and Saturn aspecting Moon, and the Divine Mother’s blessing by Moon and Venus on the lagna in the rāśi chart and D-20 — both seen in the second example chart.

Navamsha Cross-Check, Lakshmi + Sita-Rama Remedy & Mahavidya Warning

The Navamsha of the annual chart is checked last, because Navamsha is the inner protection. Atmakaraka Jupiter and Amatyakaraka Moon of the year are together in Cancer — Moon in own sign, Jupiter exalted — and Venus, ruler of the year and Putrakaraka, is exalted in the 10th in a trine from them: a very good year, and the Venus dasha that began badly can end well. The remedy is Lakshmi for Venus. The teacher adds Sita-Rama as an intuitive suggestion, not from any classic: counted from the Amatyakaraka, the Navamsha has Moon and Jupiter in Cancer with Venus and Sun exalted, as in Sri Ramachandra’s chart. Mahavidyas are not to be recommended for a job or for ordinary knowledge: they give the supreme knowledge that liberates; for the rest pray to Durga, Saraswati, Lakshmi, Hayagriva, Shiva or Krishna.

Remedies — Mantra Correction, Deity Choice & Gemstone Rules (Cat’s Eye vs Pearl) for Disease

The remedies proposed for the mental-illness chart, and the teacher's corrections. A Hanuman mantra must say Hanumate, not Hanumataye; names of a deity may be varied in a mantra, but bījākṣaras should not be added on one's own. Hanuman strengthens the debilitated lagna lord Mars, and Jupiter, 9th lord from lagna and Moon, protects the mind. The class lists the stones of the nine planets, rejects cat's eye — the lord of Moon's nakshatra is important but not therefore good, and here Ketu is the 8th lord — and accepts pearl, because the waning Moon is functionally neutral, takes part in several yogas and is weakened by Ketu. The recording ends before the remedies are finished; the rest is from the published class notes. A stone on the right hand strengthens the planet and on the left weakens it. Fasting increases vāta and is no remedy for depression. The ring prescribed is yellow sapphire with pearls, first worn on a Tuesday. The worship is Dakshinamurthy for Jupiter and, because Moon exchanges signs with Mars, Durga — the Chandi Path, of whose three parts the sāttvik Mahalakshmi part suits Moon and Jupiter.

D30 Remedies, Kali Forms & Exchange of Results for Many Planets in One Sign

Moon with Saturn, Rahu or Ketu in D30 shows where the mind is vulnerable, and in D6 and D30 there is no Viparīta Rāja Yoga: the 6th, 8th and 12th lords only give suffering. A debilitated planet calls for a female deity and an exalted one for a male deity, so a debilitated Moon with Saturn points to Kali — worshipped as Mother Kalikamba at any time for relief, never with the Mahavidya mantras, which are for Self-knowledge alone. Sun with Rahu in lagna gives a weak constitution early in life; Jupiter rescues Sun, so Dakshinamurti is the remedy, and the Vāreśa is the protector unless he is himself wrecked. The example chart has five planets in Leo: rank them by beneficence and the first and last, second and second-last exchange results in the nakṣatra daśā, while the middle one keeps his own.

Simhasana & Śakti Yoga, Kumari Vav Ritual & The Astrologer's Non-Doer Attitude

Simhasana yoga is Saturn in Cancer with Cancer as the lagna or the 10th house; in the example's annual chart Saturn gives it from the 10th of Libra lagna, where he is also yogakāraka. Moon and Saturn together are not always sad: when both are strong the pair gives great energy and insensitivity to pain (the published class notes call this Shashi Yoga). Kumari Vav is a ritual marriage gone through and broken when the first UL is too weak to last, so that the marriage which follows is read from the next, stronger sign; PVNR reports that it works and does not claim to know how. He then answers the objection that a remedy is new karma: advise by the stature of the person. The astrologer who believes "my knowledge did this" makes karma; the one who acts as the instrument of the Iṣṭa Devatā does not.

Mars-Rahu Kujasthambhana, Subramanya Remedy & a House Buying Prediction

Two planets together exchange results unless they hate each other. Mars and Rahu do not: like a police officer and an underworld don in one room they open fire, and the house they sit in is damaged. This is Kujasthambhana, and the remedy is Subramanya, who rides the peacock — one prayer weakens Rahu the snake and strengthens Mars the warrior. With the pair in a sign of Venus he is prayed to as the husband of Valli and Devasena. Kuja dosha is taken up briefly and called highly overrated. The 1967 example has Mars and Rahu in the 2nd of D4 and asks when he will buy a house: in Mars mahadasha the Saturn antardasha (November 2006 to December 2007) is picked, because Saturn owns A4, sits in A11 and aspects UL; the D4 Narayana Dasha of Capricorn narrows it to after March 29, 2007; and the 2007–08 Tithi Pravesha, with A4, A9 and A10 in lagna with Venus, points to the Jupiter or Venus period of that year.

Ishta/Palana/Dharma Devata Calculation, Complete Planet-Deity Table, Vastu Directions & Jyeshtha-Moola Gandanta

Three devatas are read from the navamsa of the example chart: the Ishta devata from the 12th from Atmakaraka (Saturn with Sun in a Mercurial sign — Vishnu, as Rama or Venkateswara), the Palana devata from the 6th from Amatyakaraka (Rahu — Durga), and the Dharma devata from the 9th from Atmakaraka (Mercury in Scorpio — Vishnu, or Narasimha). The teacher gives the general planet-to-devata list, shows how the sign and the planets with Saturn change the form, and picks Raja Ganapati for Ketu in Leo lagna, with advice on the haste of Ketu in lagna and the stubbornness of Leo. He then speaks on the astrologer’s karma: give up doership, or the results of your advice come to you. The page opens with why the Jyeshtha–Moola gandanta is the most critical one, and the planets of the Vastu directions.

Marriage Timing via Dasha (AK Dasha = Vairagya), Annual 2006 Most Promising & Three Vedantic Paths

The class opens with doership and karma, and the star-and-diamond picture of Dvaita, Vishishtadvaita and Advaita. The timing of the example then runs dasha by dasha: Sun Dasha (18–24) came close; Moon Dasha (1992–2002), of the Rasi 8th lord sitting with Saturn in the Arudha Lagna, denied marriage; Mars Dasha, of the Atmakaraka and 5th lord in Raja Yoga with the 7th lord, brought the change of mind. Mercury antardasha, up to November 2006, is the best period, with Ketu next, and the Navamsa Narayana Dasha agrees — before Sagittarius begins in July 2007. The Tithi Pravesha of 2006 has Mercury, the 7th lord, as hora lord and a Sun–Moon exchange between the 6th and 7th lords in Navamsa; the likely windows are August–September and October 19 – December 19, 2006. Remedies: Saturday fasts and Krishna, and a visit to Tirupati and Srinivasa Mangapuram at the Tithi Pravesha. The published class notes record the outcome: she did not take up the remedies and did not marry in 2006.

Gemstone Selection Methodology, Sattvic vs Rajasic Prayer vs Gemstones & Ghatika Lagna Definition

What could have been done before the divorce period: prayer first — Valli Subrahmanya for the Mars who breaks the marriage, and a fast on the day of the UL lord with prayer to the deity of the 2nd lord from UL, who sustains a marriage. A gemstone must be judged in both Rasi and Navamsa; here both 7th lords fail, Mercury is a very good candidate, and the Sun, exalted in the 7th and in the Navamsa lagna, has no serious blemish. Prayer without desire is sattvic; prayer for a result is rajasic, like a bribe to the officer; a gemstone only strengthens the planet to do what it is destined to do, like a loan on a charge card. People in deep trouble should still be given prayer with a desire. The page ends with ghatika and vighatika as units of time, why Ghatika Lagna stays 24 minutes in a sign, and the depth of the Jyeshtha–Moola gandanta.

Ishta Devata by 12th from Atmakaraka (Jaimini Sutras 1.2.72–1.2.81), Palana Devata & Mantra/Tantra Indicators

Jaimini Sutras 1.2.72–1.2.81 give the Ishta Devata from the planet in the 12th from Karakāṁśa: Sun with Ketu — Shiva; Moon — Gauri, with the form of the Mother following the Moon’s phase (Kali near Amāvāsyā); Venus — Lakshmi; Mars — Skanda; Mercury or Saturn — Vishnu; Jupiter — Sāmbaśiva or the formless; Rahu — Durga; Ketu — Ganesha; Saturn or Venus in a malefic sign — dark practices, which are not automatically bad if benefics aspect. When the native worships another deity, read the trines to the Navāṁśa Lagna and the 5th house of the Rāśi chart; the Karakāṁśa deity is the shortest path, not the only one. Sutra 1.2.82 reads the same scheme from the 6th from Amatyakaraka for the Palana Devata, the deity of sustenance. Sutras 1.2.83–84 count malefics in trines to Karakāṁśa — one for mantra, two for mantra and its usage, more for yantra and tantra — turned to black magic by malefic aspect and to good use by benefic aspect. The class also matches deities outside the list to planets: Ayyappa as Sun, Mercury and Mars; Guru Nanak as Jupiter.

BPHS Ch.85 — 14 Inauspicious Birth Doshas, Shanti Remedies & Ketu in 2nd House (Voice Quality)

BPHS Chapter 85 (Ashubha Janma) lists the conditions that make a birth inauspicious even when lagna and planets are good: Amavasya, Krishna Chaturdashi, Vishti karana, the nakshatra of a sibling or of the father, Surya Sankranti, Pata, an eclipse, Vyatipata and the other bad Panchanga yogas, the three Gandantas, Yamaghanta, Dagdha yoga, birth after three children of the other sex, and abnormal birth. PVNR reads the verses word by word and marks what is unsettled — what "darsha" means, that only part of Chaturdashi is inauspicious, that Sankranti must be a duration and not the instant of ingress, whether miscarriages count. Shanti is the remedy: best in the first 21 or 41 days, and never too late. The class began the chapter on a Sankranti day with Vishti karana and Atiganda yoga running. The page also carries the answer on Ketu in the 2nd house: he can spoil speech first, with stammering, and gives a very clear voice once that is over.

BPHS Ch.86 Amavasya Birth Shanti, Karma Transfer via Dakshina & Priest Spiritual Caliber

BPHS Chapter 86: birth on Amavasya brings poverty to the parents — of wealth, of happiness, of everything valuable. PVNR reads the shanti verse by verse: a kalasha holding the tender leaves, bark and roots of five trees and five gems, wrapped in two cloths, sanctified with three Vedic chants and set in the Agneya (southeast) corner of the puja area, which the printed translations wrongly give as southwest; idols of Moon and Sun in gold, silver or copper; homa with samidhs and charu, 108 or 28 times; abhishekam of the parents and child with the charged water; a black cow, gold and silver as dakshina. The 21st day from birth is ideal, but it works at any age. The dakshina carries some of the child's karma to the priest, who must be able to burn it by his own sadhana. That leads to how to judge a priest: money is a trifle to the right one, a fixed price or "only my priest can do it" is a warning, and doing the homa yourself with devotion beats paying a man who is only after money. BPHS Ch.87 Krishna Chaturdashi 6-Part Analysis, Shiva Shanti Procedure & Vimshottari Dasha Seed Strength

BPHS Chapter 87: Krishna Chaturdashi is not inauspicious as a whole. Divide the tithi into six parts: the first is auspicious, then come suffering to the father, the mother, the maternal uncle, the whole lineage, and last the loss of wealth or destruction of self. The part is found from the percentage of the tithi left at birth — above 83.33% is the first part and needs no shanti. PVNR works three cases, his own birth among them (85.99% left, first part). The remedy is puja of Shiva: an idol with as much gold as one can afford, crescent on the head, white clothes and garland, three eyes, seated on the bull, hands in vara and abhaya; Tryambakam as the main mantra; graha puja; homa with ghee, sesame, urad and mustard; abhishekam of the child and the feeding of brahmanas with a glad heart. The page ends with the Vimshottari seed comparison: Utpanna, Kshema or Adhana Vimshottari can time death better than the normal one when its seed has more planets in kendras, while results in life stay with the normal Vimshottari.

BPHS Ch.90 — 7 Sankranti Purushas, Dosha Definition (Half-Degree Rule) & Effect on Native

BPHS Chapter 90: birth at Sūrya Saṅkrānti, the moment the Sun changes sign. Parāśara names the Saṅkrānti by the weekday of the exact moment of ingress, not the birth weekday and not the sign entered: Sunday Ghora, Monday Dhwankshi, Tuesday Mahodari, Wednesday Manda, Thursday Mandakini, Friday Mishra, Saturday Rakshasi. The verse gives poverty and sadness until the remedy is done, and PVNR says this is the doṣa he has most often seen bite. He lists the competing definitions (civil day, ±12 hours, first degree) and recommends one: Sun within half a degree of a sign border, 29°30'–30° or 0°–0°30', in the natal chart only — never in a Tithi Praveśa chart. From tradition, not from Parāśara: the lord of the Saṅkrānti weekday, by the signs he owns and occupies, shows where the trouble falls. A student in class turns out to have the doṣa (Sun 29°56' Leo, Saturday Saṅkrānti); the class first reads the Sun by mistake, then corrects to Saturn. The page ends with why the transition harms: the Sun is a different Āditya in each sign, and at the border he is between two forms.

Sankranti Shanti Procedure (Navagraha Homam), Parashara's Actual Mantra Counts & Qualified Priests

The Saṅkrānti śānti of BPHS Chapter 90 is a Navagraha Homam, read verse by verse. East of the house, ground smeared with cow dung; a grain pile of 5 droṇas paddy, 2½ of white rice and 1¼ of sesame with an eight-petalled lotus drawn on it; Puṇyāhavācanam; an ācārya who knows the tattva of the mantra; 9 graha and 12 rāśi kalaśas filled with the sanctified water; the Saṅkrānti devatā in the middle with Sūrya on the right and Chandra on the left. The main idol gets the Tryambaka mantra, 1008, 108 or at least 28 times while touching it; Sūrya gets "Ut Surya", Chandra "Apyayasva". The fire goes west of the kalaśas, with samidh, ghee and charu on the Tryambaka mantra and a sesame homa, then abhiṣeka of the native with all the kalaśa water and feeding of brāhmaṇas. PVNR adds how to ask a priest to follow Parāśara's format, and why a homa feeds every graha alike. Side point: the popular japa count of Vimśottarī years × 1,000 is not Parāśara's. His counts as read in class are Sun 7,000, Moon 11,000, Mercury 9,000, Jupiter 19,000, Venus 15,000, Saturn 23,000, Rāhu 18,000, Ketu 17,000.

Daily Homam Practice — Bhutagni Concept, Small Fire Bond & Pronunciation vs Bhava in Mantra

Bhutagni is the fire of the sukshma sharira that digests what comes in subtly, as jatharagni digests food. In Kali Yuga it is weak in most people, so mantras are said but not digested. A homam done daily purifies and strengthens it, and every other sadhana then gives its result 10, 100 or 1000 times faster. The fire can be as small as a big deepam; what counts is the bond that slowly forms between the external fire and the bhutagni. Homam supplements japa and does not replace it: a token number of ahutis of your own mantra is enough, and the dasamsa formula (10 malas of japa, 1 mala in the fire) is for specific aims. On pronunciation: sound and the image in the mind must be synchronized, and people with poor pronunciation but shraddha and the right image still get results. The class then announces BPHS Chapter 91, the shanti for birth during an eclipse.

Mental Retardation Analysis — Moon+Mercury in D30, Ketu Dasha Pattern & Venus Dasha Recovery Window

A three-year-old girl with mental retardation, Libra lagna. Moon with Saturn in D-6 and D-30 shows only "some mental problem" — it could as well be depression; retardation needs Mercury, the learning ability, to be badly afflicted too. In D-30 Mercury is the 8th lord in the bādhaka sthāna, hemmed between Saturn and the nodes and aspected by Mars and Rāhu by graha dṛṣṭi. In rāśi Moon is at 29°30′ Pisces, deep gaṇḍānta, in the 6th and owns A8; Ketu with Mars, A6, Māndi and Gulika in the 2nd times the discovery to the start of Ketu daśā. Prognosis: Ketu daśā is bad throughout, Ketu–Jupiter (Sep 2007 – Aug 2008) is the best window because the Moon–Jupiter parivartana makes Jupiter a 6th lord in the 6th (Harṣa yoga), and Venus daśā from 2010 promises recovery. Gemstone Accentuation Philosophy, L9 vs 9th House (Father as Person) & Badhaka Lord in 9th Rule

A gemstone accentuates whatever the planet is doing in the chart; it does not strengthen only its good side. Two Mīna lagna cases: a girl given ruby (6th lord) and diamond (3rd and 8th lord) necklaces at her engagement, which then broke; and a young man with Venus as 8th lord in the 8th whom a swāmi told to wear a diamond on the index finger, the mokṣa finger, and who became a yogi. The rule is to look at the planet’s agenda — promote it if good, otherwise pray to it — and even possessing the stone counts. The second half reads the father from D-12: the 9th house shows his role and guidance, A9 the bond the world sees, and L9 the father as a person. L9 is found by counting from the 9th lord to the 9th house and the same again from the 9th house. From L9 the class reads the bādhaka lord in the 9th ("breaks idols" — does not believe in God), Rāhu in the 3rd aspected by Mars for stubbornness, the 7th under Mars, Rāhu and Saturn for bluntness, and a yogakāraka in the 12th as advice to leave the homeland.

OCD Chart Analysis — Moon+Sun Affliction Pattern, Sun in Moola Gandanta & D24 Medical Education

A high-school senior with obsessive compulsive disorder, Gemini lagna. Lagna lord Mercury is in the 7th, his maraṇa kāraka sthāna and the bādhaka sthāna, with 8th lord Saturn and a Sun at half a degree of Sagittarius — Mūla, deep gaṇḍānta. Moon, lord of A6, is with Rāhu in the 9th. In D-30 an exalted Sun and Mars both aspect Moon: where Saturn and Rāhu on the Moon deplete the mind, Sun gives over-control of the mind and Mars the anger — a reading the teacher gives with the caveat that he is not fully sure. Using Dvisaptati Sama daśā, the trouble starts in Rāhu, recurs through Sun, and Moon and Mars daśās do not promise a cure; only Mercury daśā from 2029 does. A woman in trouble with her boss prompts three questions. In the Dashamsa the 9th house shows the guidance received from the boss and the relationship with him, A9 shows the tangible side (the boss unhappy, in a punishing mood), and the 9th lord shows what happens to the boss himself: his promotion, demotion or replacement. A gemstone is chosen from the natal chart only, never from the Tithi Pravesha of the year, and for a planet that is good in both Rasi and Dashamsa and tied without blemish to the 5th and 9th houses, their lords and arudhas. Worship is safe for any planet; a stone can lift the career and spoil the marriage. For a secular client the teacher suggests giving labour or money to a concern the planet represents (school or library for Mercury, nursing home for Moon, the priest for Jupiter, the police for Mars), which pleases the planet without strengthening it.

Neecha Bhanga Raja Yoga — Three Formation Rules, Dusthana Lord Exception & Timing Application

The teacher gives three basic causes of Neecha Bhanga: the debilitated planet is retrograde; it is exalted in the Navamsa; or the planet exalted in its sign of debilitation, or the lord of that sign, is in a quadrant from lagna or Moon. For Mars in Cancer that means Jupiter or Moon in a kendra from lagna or Moon; conjunction with the sign lord is not one of the rules. Neecha Bhanga of a dusthana lord is the lower grade: in a student’s chart with Sagittarius lagna and Moon in Scorpio, Mars in the 10th breaks the debilitation, but Moon as 8th lord was better off debilitated. BPHS Ch.92 — Three Types of Gandanta, Opening Shloka & Tithi Gandanta Definition

BPHS Chapter 92 (Santhanam’s numbering), Gandanta Jata Shanti, opens by naming three kinds of Gandanta — of the tithi, of the nakshatra and of the lagna. At birth, at a journey, at a marriage or at any other important time, any of them is nidhana-prada, death-giving; so the rule covers the natal chart and Muhurta alike. Tithi Gandanta is the joint of a Purna tithi and the Nanda tithi after it: Panchami–Shashthi, Dashami–Ekadashi, and Purnima or Amavasya–Pratipada, in either paksha. Its width is four ghatikas, 96 minutes: 48 minutes before the joint and 48 after. The end of any other tithi is only like Rashi Sandhi; PVNR infers that the five kinds of tithis map to the five elements, and says the mapping is not known. The eclipse-birth chapter of the previous class was not recorded and is skipped.

Nakshatra Gandanta — Three Water-Fire Borders (Revati-Ashwini, Ashlesha-Magha, Jyeshtha-Mula) & Half-Degree Measure

Parashara’s verse names three nakshatra joints: Revati–Ashwini (Dasra = Ashwini), Ashlesha–Magha (Sarpa’s nakshatra = Ashlesha) and Jyeshtha–Mula (Shakra = Indra, whose nakshatra is Jyeshtha). The width is again four ghatikas: 48 minutes before the joint and 48 after. It is measured in time; converted for the Moon’s speed, two ghatikas come to about 26 arc-minutes, roughly half a degree on each side. In a Muhurta, Moon at 29°40' Cancer is at the fag end of Ashlesha and inside the Gandanta. The recording ends there: of Lagna Gandanta only a passing remark survives — lagna at the Cancer–Leo border, water to fire, is Gandanta, while Taurus–Gemini is only Rashi Sandhi.

Gandanta in Muhurta (Travel, Marriage), Pancha-Bhuta Hint for Tithis & Gandanta Rules Summary

Parashara’s opening verse names janma, yatra and vivaha: birth is the natal chart, travel and marriage are Muhurta, so Gandanta is to be avoided in both. PVNR sets Gandanta against Rashi Sandhi: lagna at the Taurus–Gemini border is only Sandhi, lagna at the Cancer–Leo border is the joint of water and fire and is Gandanta. He reads the tithi rule the same way — five kinds of tithis hint at the five elements — but says the mapping is not known and needs research. The page ends with the rules of the surviving part of the class in one table, and a list of what the recording does not contain: the Lagna Gandanta definition, the results and the Shanti procedure.

BPHS Ch.93 — Abhukta Mula Shanti: Jyeshtha-Mula as Most Dangerous Gandanta, Full Procedure & Nirriti Idol

The joint of Jyeshtha and Moola is the most dangerous of all the joints, because Indra and the Rakshasa who rule the two stars are great enemies. The chapter says to give up a child born in Abhukta Moola, or the father is not to see its face for eight years; the teacher explains how "giving up" is practised as a ritual adoption and says to do the Shanti instead, which makes both prescriptions void. The page gives the timing (12th day, the return of the birth star, any auspicious day, or the 8th year) and the full procedure: mandapam, the gold idol of Nirriti or plain gold in its place, the three deities, the homam with Indra's mantra and Tryambakam, the abhisheka, the gifts and the verse to recite. If all this cannot be done, a Mahamrityunjaya homam is the crux. A second part settles a Moon at 0°04' Sagittarius: Jyeshtha or Moola, and how to decide.

Guru Chandala Yoga Nuances, Parashara's Graha-Devata Map, Saturn+Ketu in 2nd Remedy & Rahu from AL

Guru Chandala Yoga exists whenever Jupiter and Rahu are together, whatever houses they own: Rahu attacks Jupiter’s natural significations — children, dharma, wisdom. Their lordships can still make them cooperate (Leo lagna: Rahu as 7th lord with Venus his friend, joined to Jupiter the 5th lord), but when Jupiter is the functional malefic and Rahu the 5th lord, 5th-house matters suffer; Rahu dominates unless Jupiter is much stronger. Saturn and Ketu transiting the 2nd from a Cancer Moon are two planets of depletion in the house of resources, with a prayoga possible. The remedies follow Parashara’s graha-devata list — Vishnu as Matsya or Veda Narayana for Saturn with Ketu, a sattvic Ganesha or Kumara Ganapati for Ketu, Rudra and the Mrityunjaya mantra when Saturn in Gandanta threatens the body — and the form of the deity is matched to the purpose. A Rahu transit is then read from lagna, Arudha Lagna and Moon: in the 8th from AL it brings sudden setbacks in image, while in the 11th from the Moon the native takes it well.

BPHS Ch.94 — Jyeshtha Gandanta Shanti (Indra Idol), Graduated Cow Donations & Karma Transfer Philosophy

BPHS Chapter 94: one born in Jyeshtha Gandanta brings destruction to the father and to himself. The shanti is the Mula Shanti with Indra as the devata, Agni as adhidevata and Rakshasa as pratyadhidevata — a gold Indra holding vajra and ankusha on the white elephant, over a kumbha set on white rice — with the Indra Sukta and the Mrityunjaya mantra; at the least, the Mrityunjaya mantra 11 or 21 times a day. One who cannot do the ritual gives cows: three for the Mula–Jyeshtha and Ashlesha–Magha Gandantas, two for Revati–Ashwini, one for other gandas, scaled to the giver’s wealth. A girl born in Jyeshtha or in the last pada of Vishakha endangers her husband’s elder or younger brother, a daughter of Ashlesha’s last three padas the mother-in-law, a son of Mula’s first three padas the father-in-law — and if that relative does not exist there is no dosha. The class ends on what a gift does with karma: part burns in the ritual, part goes to the receiver, who must know and must have the caliber to bear it; burning it oneself by sadhana and surrender is best.

BPHS Ch.95 — Tritiya Janma Shanti: Definition, Four-Deity Procedure & Bronze Viewing Rule

Tritiya Janma is the birth of a girl after three boys, or a boy after three girls. BPHS says it brings danger of inauspicious events to both the father's and the mother's family, and PVNR works out why it is almost never met today. The remedy is read verse by verse: timing at the end of sutaka, a Graha Yajna, four gold idols of Brahma, Vishnu, Mahesha and Indra on a kalasha, the four Rudra Suktas and Shanti Suktas, the homa with Svishtakrit and Purnahuti, abhisheka of the child with the family, the parents first seeing the child as a reflection in bronze, and gifts to Brahmins, the troubled and orphans. PVNR says plainly which points he does not know (which four Rudra Suktas, why this birth is a dosha) and notes that the remedy chapters may be later additions to the text.

Hearing Loss Case (Cancer Lagna) — Multi-Divisional Analysis, Moon's Dual Role & Surgery Timing

An eight-year-old with hearing loss and a suspected tumor; the family wants a time for surgery. The 3rd house is the ears and the 11th is hearing: 11th lord Venus is in Marana Karaka Sthana, and lagna lord Moon sits in the 2nd with 8th lord Rahu in Gandanta. PVNR shows why Cancer Narayana dasha brought the problem out (A11 in Cancer; Cancer's argala on A6 and on 8th lord Saturn), why Vimshottari Sun–Mercury is a maraka period (2nd and 3rd lords in Scorpio with A8, 3rd from Arudha Lagna), and why Saturn and Ketu over the natal Moon make it a time to lie low and pray. The Moon is lagna lord in D-1 but 6th lord in D-6, so Durga worship is advised and pearl is not. Two Tithi Pravesha charts then set the outlook: 2006–07 is a bad year in which only Venus's period (January 3 to March 14) is relatively better, and things improve after November 20, 2008.

BPHS Ch.96 — Prasava Vikara Shanti: Unusual Deliveries, Animal Vikara & Parashara's Closing Philosophy

Chapter 96 of BPHS in Santhanam’s edition: unusual deliveries and their śānti. Parashara lists a pregnancy far too short or far too long (he gives no figure; Santhanam reads 2–4 months off the due date), a child missing a body part (hīnāṅga) or with an extra one (adhikāṅga), born headless or two-headed, a woman delivering an animal-shaped baby, and an animal delivering human-shaped young. They forebode evil for the whole house, family and village, and apply to animals as much as to women. Also covered: the verse that literally says to abandon such a baby or cow, which PVNR is not sure is Parashara’s own; conception or delivery in a woman’s 15th or 16th year; a cow calving with Sun in Leo or a buffalo with Sun in Capricorn, where the calf goes to a brāhmaṇa. The remedy is pūjā of Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva and the grahas with homa as in the trītara-janma śānti. The class then skips the concluding chapter and restarts BPHS from Chapter 1 as a revision.

BPHS Ch.9 — 14 Balarishta (Infant Death) Yogas, Sandhya Definition & Mahamrityunjaya Remedy

BPHS Chapter 9 (Arishtadhyaya) read verse by verse. An arishta can act until age 24, and while one is present normal longevity methods are not applied. The page goes through the first 16 verses: Moon or a retrograde benefic in a dusthana under malefic aspect, the 5th-house combination for mother or brother, Mars in lagna or the 8th, eclipse births, the Hora-chart verse, planets in the 12th, Sandhya with Gandanta, Scorpio lagna, and Papakartari on lagna — with the places where the teacher reads the verse differently from Santhanam. Sandhya is defined as 3 ghatikas before sunrise or after sunset, counted from the middle of the Sun’s disc. The remedy he recommends is Mrityunjaya Homa, done at once. A short clarification of the same-nakshatra dosha of parent and child follows.

Three Devata Framework (Palana/Dharma/Ishta), Gandanta Shanti Muhurta & Father's Fortune from Baby's D12

Three deities read from the navamsha: Palana Devata from the 6th from Amatyakaraka (sustenance), Dharma Devata from the 9th from Atmakaraka, Ishta Devata from the 12th from Atmakaraka (moksha). The 5th house of D20 is only the deity one is naturally drawn to. For the newborn of this lesson the teacher chooses the Dharma Devata, because the need is for the chart's yoga to function, and arrives at Lakshmi Narasimha. He then sets out the Gandanta Shanti: Navagraha Homa with the Mrityunjaya Mantra and Ayush Sukta, on the 21st day, with the tithi, weekday, nakshatra and tara of that day checked, and how to tell the parents without frightening them. Last, the child's Dvadashamsha is read with the running dasha for the father's career, the mother's career, and which parent guides her more.

BPHS Ch.10 — Arishtabhanga Complete: The Antidote Verses for the Balarishta Combinations

BPHS Chapter 10 gives the antidotes to the evil (arishta) combinations of the chapter before; the whole chapter is read in one sitting. Even one of Mercury, Jupiter or Venus in a kendra from lagna kills all the evil as the Sun kills darkness, and strong Jupiter alone in lagna destroys a collection of evils as a pranam to Shiva destroys sins; both verses are generic, for any lagna, and name natural benefics. The lagna lord, the highest functional benefic, well placed (kendra-samstha) in any quadrant does the same. Then come the Shukla-paksha night birth with a benefic aspecting lagna (reversed in Krishna paksha), Jupiter with Mars or aspecting Mars for the mother, and a malefic in the 4th or 10th hemmed by benefics for the father, which the teacher explains by counting from the 9th house (10th = 2nd from 9th, 4th = 8th from 9th) and extends to the mother. The last verse has malefics between benefics with the benefics in kendras and trikonas; with no malefic at all it is better still.

Marriage Trouble Case (1979) — Venus Dasha, Sun AD Divorce Risk & Gem vs Prayer Critical Distinction

A woman’s chart (Cancer lagna, 1979) brought to class in 2007: married June 20, 2005 in Venus–Venus, and hardly living with her husband since. In navāṁśa the 7th lord Jupiter is in the 12th and UL is with A6; Sun and Moon sit there with Venus. In the rāśi chart, counted from UL in Virgo, Venus is both 9th and 2nd lord and sits in the 6th with Mars and Ketu, while Sun, Moon and Mercury are in the 7th from UL. The running Sun antardaśā (to September 12) is the danger; the Moon antardaśā after it worries PVNR less. The year’s Tithi Praveśa confirms and narrows it to June 24–August 24. Transit Murti System — Swarnamurti (Gold), Rajatamurti (Silver), Tamramurti (Copper), Lohamurti (Iron): When to Propitiate

How the teacher builds a general yearly reading (Panchanga Shravanam) and where the Murti of a transit comes in. A general reading ignores daśās and Tithi Pravesha and is only 50–60% reliable; he takes the transits of Jupiter, Saturn, Rahu and Ketu and picks the ones that stand out. When a planet enters a sign, count from the natal Moon to the Moon of that moment: 1, 6, 11 is Swarnamurti (gold, excellent); 2, 5, 9 Rajatamurti (silver, good); 3, 7, 10 Tamramurti (copper, bad); 4, 8, 12 Lohamurti (iron, terrible). Jupiter in the 11th as Lohamurti can give but will not, so a remedy there pays most; Saturn in the 6th as Swarnamurti needs none; a planet in the 8th as Tamramurti gives more trouble and is the one to propitiate for relief.

Names, Letters & Planetary Rulerships — Vowels=Sun, Ka-varga=Mars, Pa-varga=Saturn; PVNR's Principle: Name the Strongest Yoga Planet

Which planet rules which letters: Sun the vowels, Moon the semi-vowels and sibilants, Mars ka-varga, Venus ca-varga, Mercury the retroflex ṭa-varga, Jupiter the dental ta-varga, Saturn pa-varga. The first letter of the name a person is called by strengthens that planet in the chart; respelling a name in English changes nothing. Naming by nakshatra pada is only a scheme for remembering the nakshatra. PVNR’s rule is to give the first letter of a planet that is strong and gives a yoga. Examples: his own names in Saturn dasha and after, Nagarjuna, Sanjay Rath, and the name of the native whose chart is read in this class.

Female Bank Manager (1963) — Chaturashiti Sama Dasha, Saturn/Sun AD Career Trouble, Pearl over Ruby & Kali-Ganesha Remedy

A bank assistant manager is loaded with other people's work, troubled by her boss and gets no recognition. The 10th lord Sun is in the 10th, so Chaturāśīti-sama daśā is used. In the D-10 (Leo lagna, fifteen seconds from Cancer) Venus daśā is good in itself — 10th lord with 5th lord Jupiter in the 11th — but the Saturn and Sun antardaśās bring out Saturn sitting on the lagna lord Sun in the 10th, and Sun falls in the 12th from Venus. Moon's antardaśā gives relief and a change of place or boss; recognition peaks in Venus–Jupiter, 2013–14. The class then tests the remedies a student had given: Gaṇeśa and Kālī are confirmed, and pearl is preferred to ruby because the daśā lord Venus must accept the stone.

Propitiation vs Gemstone Safety Rules, Ishta Devata (12th from AK in Navamsa) & Druk Dasha Spiritual Timeline for the Child (2027–2035 Peak Sadhana)

The remedy for the child is Narasimha: Mercury, the afflicting 8th lord and also the Atmakaraka, shows Vishnu, and an ugra avatar that corresponds to Mars covers the lagna lord in the 12th as well. A gem increases a planet’s good where it is good and its bad where it is bad; propitiation, sattvic or rajasic, is always safe, and only a tamasic remedy can turn on the doer. Ishta Devata is the 12th from the AK in Navamsa: here it is empty Aquarius holding the Navamsa lagna, so he is inherently spiritual; start with Saturn, who aspects the sign (Vishnu), while the stronger lord Rahu in a Venusian sign (Durga) gives moksha in the end. Dṛg daśā times the spiritual life: a guru in Taurus or Aquarius daśā (2011–2027, most likely 2019–2027), and the maximum sadhana, with mystical experiences and some fame, in Scorpio daśā, November 2027 to November 2035.

Mental Health Case (1982, Pisces Lagna) — D30 Mercury Bhadaka in Lagna, Sri Rama Remedy (Sun+Mercury Combined) & Why Mahavidyas Are Not for Material Well-Being

A student's chart: a Pisces-lagna man, hospitalised for mental instability, who left finance to study medicine. The rule taught: for mental instability either Moon (manah karaka) or Mercury (nervous system, balance) must be afflicted. Here Sun (6th lord) and Mercury (badhaka lord) sit on Arudha Lagna in Rasi and in lagna itself in Trimsamsa; in D6 Mercury is badhaka lord again. Career is read from D10: Jupiter as lagna and 10th lord in the 10th gives Hamsa yoga and points to teaching, while Sun, the 6th lord with Venus in an inimical sign, gives a medical career that does not last; A8 in the 10th with Jupiter means sudden good breaks. Remedies: yellow sapphire for the lagna lord but never ruby, emerald or diamond; the Surya ashtakshari "Om Ghrinih Surya Adityah"; and "Sri Rama Rama Rama" for an hour a day, which answers Sun and Mercury together. The palana devata, from the 6th from Amatyakaraka in Navamsa, is Hanuman — and the class hears why a Mahavidya should not be given for material well-being.

A8 from AL (Sudden Rise or Fall), Saturn-Jupiter Mutual Exchange Results, Jupiter = Diabetes Karaka, Saturn = Vata/Arthritis & Hanuman for Saturn-Mars Charts

The principles drawn out of the two charts of this class. A8 can mean a sudden rise or a big fall: the planet sitting in it decides, judged as a functional benefic or malefic from lagna — in the first chart Jupiter in A8 in the 10th of D10 gives sudden good breaks, Saturn there gives the negative side. Planets placed together exchange results, so Saturn's periods give Jupiter's results and Jupiter's give Saturn's; in the second chart that makes Saturn dasha the carrier of a badhaka lord Jupiter in gandanta, and worse for health than Jupiter dasha itself. Jupiter is the karaka for diabetes, Saturn for vata conditions such as arthritis. Remedies: Mrityunjaya homa and mantra for a planet in gandanta; for Saturn with Mars, Hanuman Chalisa 54 times a day, because a severe affliction needs a severe effort.

Mantra Philosophy: Kabir's Story (Intensity > Source), Hanuman Chiranjivi (Physical Body Still Exists), One Mantra Deeply vs 100 Casually

Two asides from a chart reading. Kabir went to a saint for a mantra; the saint, disturbed while lying down, only muttered "Ram, Ram", and Kabir took that as his mantra and reached darshan of Hanuman and Rama and the experience of Brahman. How a mantra reaches you is decided by nature; what you do with it is yours. Formal upadesha is overrated in Kali Yuga: the Rishis put the knowledge in the open and Vyasa arranged it for this age, so a mantra from a book will do. Take one mantra and do it for hours a day, not minutes, and do not scatter effort over a hundred mantras. Then why Hanuman sadhana is special: other deities appear only through fire, air or ether, to subtle perception, but Hanuman is a Chiranjivi whose physical body still exists and can be seen with the eyes.

Child Chart (2001, Libra Lagna) — D24 Siddhamsa for Learning, Pachakadi Samandhas (4 Planet Relationships) & Brahmana Sapa Yoga (AK Involvement)

A full reading of a 7-year-old with asthma, late speech and slow learning (Libra lagna). The D-24 lagna is settled as Taurus, not Aries, because only Taurus puts a functional malefic Jupiter in the 4th of learning; the D-24 Narayana daśā is seeded from the 4th lord of the rāśi chart and shows trouble until 2013. The class introduces the Pachakādi sambandhas (Pāchaka, Bodhaka, Kāraka, Vedhaka) and finds Saturn the key planet. D-30 shows the nodes in a Vāyu rāśi with unobstructed reverse argalā on Mercury; D-6 Paryāya daśā and the Moola daśā explain asthma from birth. Mars is a māraka in gaṇḍānta and in Mṛtyubhāga, and Jupiter carries a Brahmana śāpa with the Ātmakāraka Rāhu. The class ends with a pearl that upset a manager’s career: gems are a rājasic remedy.

Autism Chart (2002, Cancer Lagna) — Moon Rasi Sandhi + Near-Eclipse by Rahu, D24 Mandi in 5H, Prasna Drekkana = Future & Gemstone vs Prayer Rule

A six-year-old boy with autism who does not yet speak (Jan 25, 2002; Cancer lagna, time not rectified). Lagna lord Moon sits in the first degree of Gemini in the 12th, 20 minutes from 8th lord Rahu, while Jupiter is 13° away and cannot protect him. D30 has Moon with both nodes in a sign of Mars; D24 (Libra lagna) has Mandi and Gulika in the 5th and the 5th co-lord Rahu with Moon in the Badhakasthana, and Rahu dasha runs from 2005 to 2023. Lady with Bone Marrow Disease (the example 1951, Gemini Lagna) — Chaturasiti Sama Dasha (10L in 10H), D6 Lagna Lord ≠ Protection & Narasimha Mantra

A lady born in 1951 (Gemini lagna 2°48') hospitalized in early 2008 with a bone marrow disease and waiting for a transplant donor. Because the 10th lord Jupiter is in the 10th, the conditional Chaturasiti Sama Dasha is used: Saturn dasha (8th lord and lord of A6) with Mars antardasha (6th lord in lagna, in a weapon drekkana) brought the blow, and Venus pratyantardasha (12th lord with Ketu) the hospitalization. D6 confirms disease — Badhaka lord Saturn in the 8th and lagna lord Mars in the 6th — and gives the rule that a divisional chart’s lagna lord is the self in that area of life, not protection. Mercury antardasha from March 2009 gives a new lease of life but not full recovery; Narasimha is the remedy. Maraka periods, Shoola Dasha and two Tithi Pravesha charts place the danger to life in Sun dasha, May 2014 to October 2017, not now.

Example Chart (1953, Cancer Lagna) — Elbow/Nerve Pain: Mars in Gandanta + Sarpa Drekkana, TP Mercury as Badhaka + Nakshatra Pravesh for Health & Kavachas

A student asks whether an elbow pain that began two weeks before the class (July 2008) will last. Lagna is stronger than Moon, so Lagna Vimshottari is used: the dasha of Mars is just starting. Mars is the yogakaraka for Cancer lagna, but he is in lagna in gandanta, in a sarpa drekkana, lord of the 64th navamsa, and alone aspects the 8th of D-6; Mars rules nerve tissue. The Tithi Pravesha of 2007 explains the onset in Mercury’s period (badhaka lord in the badhaka sthana, 7th lord in the 8th of D-6, 8th lord in the 7th of D-30); the 2008 chart has the three trinal lords in the 8th and shows no lasting illness. Verdict: weeks to a couple of months, not long-term. Remedy: the kavachas of Moon, the lagna lord, and of Mars.

Example Chart (1975, Gemini Lagna) — D10 Rectification Tested by Events and Dropped, Navamsha Verification, Saturn in AL = Status Trouble & Contract Work Safer than Employment

A software engineer’s chart (1975, Gemini lagna) brought with a career question. The teacher suspects the D-10 lagna should be Leo, not Cancer, and the D-9 lagna Sagittarius, not Scorpio, and tests both against the marriage (December 2001) and the first job (March 2002) using Chaturaśīti-sama daśā, the 2001 Tithi Praveśa chart and Narayana daśā. The annual chart and the Scorpio Narayana daśā of the navāṁśa both support the time as given, so nothing is changed: Scorpio D-9 and Cancer D-10 stand. The year is then read: Sun–Saturn antardaśā (July 2007 – April 2009) with Saturn, the 8th lord, in the ārūḍha lagna of D-10 is bad for status and brings trouble with bosses, and the 2008 Tithi Praveśa confirms a bad year for service — she had just been given notice. Advice: short-term contract work, a good window from September 12 to December 16, a possible shock after that, and worship of Venkaṭeśvara for Saturn and Rahu.

Example Chart — Divorce Litigation (1971): Venus Karaka-Lagna for Marriage, 9th from UL Protects Marriage & Upanayana Guru Chandal Yoga Warning (Jupiter + Rahu in Debility)

A 1971 chart (Taurus lagna, Leo Navāṁśa): about five years of divorce litigation, and the wife now wants to return. In rāśi the 7th and 8th lords exchange houses. Venus daśā gave the marriage, which fits the Navāṁśa: Venus is in the 7th there and owns the Navāṁśa Upapada. Moon daśā brought the litigation: in Navāṁśa Moon is the 12th lord in the bādhaka sthāna, and from Venus taken as kāraka-lagna he is the 6th lord. PVNR justifies the Venus lagna from Parāśara and from Venus being stronger than the Navāṁśa lagna. The running Saturn antardaśā (lagna lord in the 11th from Venus) and the coming Mercury antardaśā do not break the marriage: Mercury is the 2nd lord from the rāśi UL and sits in the 9th from UL in both rāśi and Navāṁśa. Verdict: the divorce is unlikely and they should get back together; only Sun antardaśā needs care. Remedy: Viṣṇu Sahasranāma with the Devī verse Sarva-maṅgala-māṅgalye between its verses, and a fast on Sundays because UL is in Leo. The class also covers Jupiter crossing the Capricorn–Aquarius border and back, and an Upanayana muhūrta spoiled by debilitated Jupiter within a degree of Rāhu.

Graha Yuddha: When the Lagna Lord Loses to a Maraka in the 8th

Graha yuddha — planetary war — between a lagna lord and a maraka in the 8th house, eleven arc minutes apart. The rule the class draws from it: a lagna lord defeated in graha yuddha is a fundamental weakness, and in the dasha of the planet that lost, the winner does what he wants — the time is his. Here the winner is the 7th and 2nd lord, an enemy, so the lagna lord's own dasha is run by the maraka. Beside it, the Trimsamsa (D-30) test for a mind under siege: Moon (manas) or Mercury (buddhi) afflicted by Saturn, Rahu or Ketu. That is a standing weakness; three dashas — Vimshottari, Chaturashiti Sama and the D-30 Paryāya Dasha — show which combination is giving results now. The Saptamsa is read for children (Rahu in the 5th as badhaka lord). The Navamsa is read for the first marriage from the 7th, the second from the 2nd and the third from the 9th, each taken as lagna, with the 2nd, 8th and 12th from the Upapada for marriage in general. Two Tithi Praveśa charts show a bad natal combination repeating on the lagna of the year, and then a better year with a window for marriage.

Three things from the end of the class. First, the remedies given for the example chart, where a maraka Mars has defeated the lagna lord: Angaraka Kavacham, Angaraka Homam done to a time limit and not a count, the kavacham chanted after the pūrṇāhuti and never offered into the fire, a Tuesday fast, the Hanuman Chalisa in long sittings, and the teacher's point that an intense combination needs intense sādhana, not fifteen minutes a day. Second, his warning against Pratyangira homam: Pratyangira is a weapon personified, born to cool Narasimha, not a mother deity like Chandi; a homam done for a result is firing a gun almost nobody knows how to fire, so take the problem to Chandi, Narasimha or Chamunda instead. Third, prasna: D-1 for the present, D-9 for the past, D-3 for the future; the answer holds only if Jupiter influences lagna or lagna lord in the Rasi and the Navamsa lagna links to the person's chart; and the 5-minute sign within a hora, which the teacher used for a test of his own — Jupiter in a kendra from it.

Son (1992, Aquarius Lagna): Venus Combust (Education Weak), Mars Paravatamsa (127% Shadbala) = Career Strong, Shatabdika Dasha Mars 2017–2037 = 20-Year Glorious Period, Venus Exalted D10 = Career Culmination & Bheemarupi Hanuman Stotra (54x/108 Days)

A father asks about his son's college education and career (Aquarius lagna, born 1992). The 4th and 9th lord Venus is in the 5th and vargottama but combust, under 7° from the Sun, so education is the weak side of the chart and Jupiter dasha (till 2018) runs on and off. Mars is the strong planet: 10th lord in the 3rd in Aries aspecting the 10th, amatyakaraka, own sign in rasi, navamsa and dasamsa, Paravatamsa, Shadbala 127%. Because the lagna is vargottama, Shatabdika Dasha applies; reckoned from lagna it gives Mars dasha from 2017 to 2037, which the teacher calls the glorious period of the life. His advice: take a Martian field such as engineering, do not lose heart over grades, and prepare for 2017. Remedies: propitiate Jupiter without his gem, a diamond for Venus, no red coral, and Hanuman — chosen over Subrahmanya because Mars is in Bharani and confirmed by a nimitta — with the Bheemarupi Hanuman Stotra of Samarth Ramdas.

Arudha Longitude Debate: Reflect Exact Degrees (Not Just Count Rashis) → AL Unrestricted; Gayatri Attachment Indicators: Sun on Lagna/LL + Hasta Nakshatra + Jupiter-Ketu on Lagna; Gandanta Rule: NO Gemstone — Propitiate Only; Deepam Trataka = Sun Strengthening Without Ritual

Three shorter matters from the class. Arudhas: they can be found by counting signs, as now, or by reflecting the exact distance in longitude from the house to its lord; in the worked example (lagna 8°47' Aquarius, Saturn 29°03' Leo) the Arudha Lagna lands at about 19° Pisces, in the 2nd house, so the Arudha is no longer confined to certain houses and AL–A7 in 6/8 stops being rare. The teacher has tested both and holds back his verdict. Gayatri: the claim that an identical rasi and bhava chart shows her blessing has no basis; look for Jupiter and Ketu and for Sun on lagna, lagna lord or the 5th, and for Hasta holding lagna or Moon, as in the teacher's own chart and Vivekananda's. Remedies for a Sun in gaṇḍānta: no ruby; propitiate with Aditya Hridayam or the Sun mantra, or simply gaze at a lamp.

An undergraduate who left pre-med for math and biology: which suits him? Rasi has six planets on the 4th–10th axis, with the 4th lord Sun in gaṇḍānta half a degree from Ketu, yet sitting at the entry of his own house and separating from Ketu. The D-24 lagna is on a border; Saturn daśā gave top-of-class schooling, which fits Cancer (Saturn with lagna lord Moon, yogakāraka from the 4th), so the time moves from 11:37 to 11:36 PM. Taurus against Aries rasi lagna is settled by his speech and temperament and by the father seen in D-12. In D-24 Sun, 2nd lord with Rahu and Ketu, aspects the 9th of the bachelor's degree; in D-10 Rahu in his own 2nd house is aspected by Sun and Ketu from the 8th. The same Sun–Rahu–Ketu combination in three charts points to surgery, with math possible but not career-defining. Career is judged average (lagna lord Venus debilitated, Sun in gaṇḍānta), with business advised in Venus daśā from about 47. Remedies: no ruby, propitiate Sun, a diamond for Venus.

Prasna Shoulder/Hand Pain (Sep 9 2009): Mars as Nerve Tissue Karaka Lagna — 7th Lord in 8th = Nerve Maraka; Pitta-Nerve Diagnosis (Sun Exalted Badhaka + Mars Maraka); Compressed Dasha 1-Year Timeline; Shankhpushpi+Brahmi in Milk = Pitta-Nerve Remedy

A worked prasna on hand and shoulder pain: Libra lagna 6°42', September 9, 2009. Jupiter aspecting lagna lord Venus almost exactly makes it a genuine prasna. Navamsa shows the background (mixed, not chronic), Rasi the affliction (6th lord Jupiter aspecting Venus on the Rahu-Ketu axis; Badhaka lord Sun in the Badhakasthana with Argala; Gulika in lagna; Maraka Mars with a partial aspect), and Drekkana the future (Mars in lagna, Sun exalted as Badhaka lord in the 7th, Venus aspected by Saturn and Jupiter). The nerve diagnosis comes from the roga pada A6, lorded by Mars, and from taking Mars as lagna: 7th lord Jupiter debilitated in the 8th, and Mercury with 8th lord Saturn. Sun and Mars make it Pitta, not Vata, so the herbs are Shankhpushpi and Brahmi in milk, with Lakshmi and Hanuman as the propitiation. Vimshottari compressed to one year gives improvement till October 3 and an unfavourable stretch till March 22; the added longevity question is refused.

Saturn’s transit is judged from the Dasamsa Moon as well as the Rasi Moon. For about three years Saturn was in the 8th from this native’s Rasi Moon at 28° Sagittarius (Aṣṭama Śani) and, after 5° Leo, in the 1st from lagna; in the last two of those years he was also in the 12th from the Dasamsa Moon at 12° Virgo — the seven and a half years of Saturn counted for career. The method: take the transit in the zodiac, take the Navamsa Moon or Dasamsa Moon as the reference; a person does not suffer in every area of life at once. The second half judges gemstones the same way, across Rasi, Dasamsa, Navamsa and Hora: Jupiter’s yellow sapphire, which the native wears, is “worth praying to but not worth wearing”; Saturn’s stone would help career and harm health; ruby and red coral are rejected; diamond for Venus is the choice.

Mantra Sadhana Threshold: Reflex-Action = Karma Actually Burning (3+ Hours Daily vs 15 Minutes); Long Texts (Aditya Hridayam/Chandi) for Unstable Minds; Multiple Deities OK Under Material Distress (Not Moksha Seeking); Vivekananda's Suffering in Maya

The remedy for this chart is to propitiate Sun, who is both the running dasha lord and the lagna lord, with Āditya Hṛdayam — for hours a day, not minutes. The teacher sets time rather than a count, explains blocking karmas (suffered, or burned through sadhana), and gives the mark of progress: the mantra arising by itself, as reflex action. A long text suits an unstable mind better than a short mantra; a paurāṇic prayer is safer than a Veda mantra said wrongly. He then goes back on his usual one-deity advice: a person seeking relief from a material problem, not realisation, may propitiate several deities — here Sun, Lakṣmī and Hanumān. Vivekananda’s weeks of distress show that even he could not fix his mind on God under such pressure, and that his way out, renunciation, is not for everyone.

Saptamsa reading for two daughters. D-7 lagna is Cancer, an even sign, so the children are counted backwards: the first from Pisces (Jupiter alone, which points to a boy), but Mercury falls in the 1st house from Jupiter and the birth came in Jupiter–Mercury, so the neutral planet turned it to a girl (Dec 19, 2005). The second is from Capricorn: Moon and Ketu in the 1st house from its lord Saturn give a girl (Oct 1, 2008, Jupiter–Venus, Venus on the 8th cusp from Saturn). Both births are checked in the Tithi Pravesha saptamsa. A third child would come from Scorpio, across the Saturn–Ketu–Moon group with no Jupiter to protect, and with Ketu, Moon and Saturn in the 2nd from Scorpio — very little chance, and a risk of abortion. Ishta Devata is taken from the 12th from Atmakaraka in the Vimsamsa, not the navamsa: Saturn in Capricorn, closely aspected by Mars and by debilitated Venus, gives a warrior form of the Mother — Chandi, Chamundeshwari. D6 Cancer Analysis: Ketu (8L) in Lagna + Rahu (Badhaka) = Most Dangerous Combination; Health Prognosis to 2012 Critical (Ketu AD = Worst Period); CRITICAL Gemstone Rule: NEVER Wear Maraka/Badhaka Planet's Gem During Their Dasha; Remove Red Coral + Cat's Eye Immediately

The cancer of 2009 read from the ṣaṣṭhāṁśa (D-6, Aries lagna). It surfaced in Vimśottarī Mars–Jupiter: Jupiter sits in the 12th with the 6th lord Mercury under the aspect of the 8th lord Mars, so the 6th, 8th and 12th lords meet on the 6th–12th axis. The teacher's observation from cancer charts: Rāhu and Ketu, as bad lords, afflict the lagna, 6th or 8th of the D-6 — here the bādhaka lord Rāhu and the 8th lord Ketu are in the lagna. The antardaśās ahead are weighed one by one (Saturn, Mercury, Ketu the worst, Venus from February 2012 relatively better), and Śatābdika agrees on spring 2012 through the Sun antardaśā. On gemstones: a running daśā is no reason to wear a planet's stone — if the planet is ill-disposed you propitiate him, you do not wear him. Red coral and cat's eye are to be removed, ruby and emerald avoided, diamond is the only safe stone, and the remedy is Hanumān.

How the remedy for the cancer case is chosen. The lagna lord Venus is an absent landlord, since his dasha is not running; the troublemaker is Mercury, the 8th lord of Trimshamsa, tightly joined by Rahu in Scorpio. Mercury is reached through Vishnu, and a Martian sign with Rahu calls for a fierce form: Ugra Narasimha, with the 32-letter Mantra-raja pada mantra offered in fire a few lakh times over eight days from Tuesday to Tuesday, or a Sudarshana homa. Gems are rejected: a purchase cannot push off a major karma, and a diamond for the lagna lord could quicken death because Venus is a maraka in Trimshamsa. The teacher then explains why most priests get no result, why the family should chant the one mantra themselves, how a fierce devata works fast with some suffering spilling on the one who does the sadhana, and why attachment to a son's life does not spoil it.

Chartered Accountant Case (1971, Continued): Mercury Pratyantara = 10L in 12H D10 + Rahu Transit on D10 Mercury = Bad Decision (Joined Mining Company, Resigned in 3 Months); A9+A5 in 12th from A11 = Accept Friend's Consulting Firm (Fortune from Friend); Saturn in 12th from A7 = Rajyoga for Partnership; AK Moon in Libra in D10; Subrahmanya Remedy (Mars+Ketu+Ashlesha)

A chartered accountant (Leo lagna, vargottama, so Śatābdikā daśā) joined a mining company in February 2010 and resigned on 15 May. A friend now offers him his 30-year-old consulting firm. Everything is read in the Daśāṁśa (lagna 29° Sagittarius), by longitude. The setback came in Saturn–Saturn–Mercury: Mercury is the 10th lord in the 12th, the 6th lord from Saturn, and transit Rāhu was passing over his Daśāṁśa longitude — the teacher's rule being that a transit on a daśā lord's natal position in any varga colours the period. Jupiter's pratyantara from 9 July is better. The friend's offer: the 12th from A11 is the friend giving something up; A9 and A5 fall there, on the 7th cusp, with Saturn's full aspect, so it brings fortune — accept. Partners: Saturn is in the 12th from A7, a rājayoga for A7, so partners are fine, formalized after 10 July. Saturn in the Ārūḍha Lagna means average, not spectacular, business. Then the day's verses are applied from the Ātmakāraka Moon in the Daśāṁśa, the Amātyakāraka Jupiter is judged, the 6th from him (Mars and Ketu) gives the purpose, and Mars with the nodes in Āśleṣā under Jupiter's exact aspect gives Subrahmaṇya as the deity.

Example Chart — Childbirth Best Window: Early 2016 Jan-Mar (Jupiter Stationary 29° Leo + Rahu 29° Leo, Both Aspecting Progressed Moon D7); Putrasahamam in the 2015 Tithi Pravesha D7 Has Mars 96%+Jupiter 85%; 40-50% Conception Probability; Moon 2nd Lord in 8H of D7 = Adoption More Probable; Santana Gopal + Vishnu Sahasranama 11x/Week for 2-3 Years

With a Saptamsa this weak, only the dasha can help. Rahu–Mercury (to March 2016) is preferred to Rahu–Saturn: Mercury is the D7 lagna lord and sits in the 9th house from Venus, the lord of the first child’s house. Of the Tithi Pravesha charts for 2013, 2014 and 2015, only 2015 is strong: its Saptamsa has the lagna, 5th and 9th lords all in own signs, and Putra Sahama there is aspected by Mars and Jupiter. The year’s own dashas point to January–March 2016. Transits for January 2016 add that Rahu, the dasha lord, aspects his own natal D7 position within a degree, and that Jupiter and Rahu at 29° Leo aspect the progressed Moon of the Vimshottari progression. But the Moon is the 2nd lord in the 8th house of the natal Saptamsa: an addition to the family, not a birth. The teacher gives a 40–50% chance of conceiving and suspects adoption. The remedy is Vishnu Sahasranama with the Santana Gopala mantra between the shlokas, 11 times on one day every week for two to three years.

Aquarius, running until May 2012, is only the 6th house, and Pisces after it is the 7th and better; but the lord of the daśā sign transiting the daśā sign, aspecting it, exalted or in own sign makes a daśā give very good results, and Saturn is exalted in Libra, the 9th from Aquarius, in February 2012. The teacher sets aside the lagna lord in the 8th with debilitated Mercury and the Moon–Mars conjunction, and names Moon as the problem: in gaṇḍānta at the end of Cancer, in Ashlesha (a Sarpa nakshatra) and a Sarpa drekkāṇa, and his own Śubhapati. By the lagna ±15° rule Moon is in the 1st house, not the 12th. D-30 has Moon debilitated in the 8th under the bādhaka lord Saturn's aspect; D-27 has Moon with Rahu in Rahu's own sign. The praśna has a pāpa kartari on lagna from two retrograde malefics, countered by a Jupiter–Venus rāja yoga. Two uses of D-20. First, the teacher's own practice with a praśna: in the D-20 of the praśna chart the 5th house shows the upāsana and the 9th house the divine help for the one issue asked about. For the child's praśna, 9th lord Moon is exalted in the 7th and aspects lagna, so Gauri or Chamunda — the same deity the natal chart gave. Second, the family deity from the 2nd house of the natal D-20: in the 1985 chart the known deity, Venkateswara, is used to choose between two D-20 lagnas, and Rahu in Aquarius aspecting the 2nd settles it. A health reading of a Pisces-lagna man (1966) with diabetes and weakness. The Rasi chart shows average health: lagna lord Jupiter is retrograde in Venus's sign, a great enemy's sign, and Mars, Saturn, Gulika and Mandi afflict the 12th, but Saturn is in his own sign and Rahu is 20° from Jupiter. The trouble is the dasha: Venus is the 3rd and 8th lord and the dispositor ("landlord") of the lagna lord, with the 6th lord Sun and bādhaka lord Mercury 12° away. In D30 (Capricorn lagna) the lagna lord Saturn is in the 6th and exchanges signs with the 6th lord Mercury, who sits in the lagna with the 8th lord Sun — a Duryoga, not a Raj Yoga, due in Saturn–Mercury. The career advice read from the Daśāṁśa (Aries lagna) of the example chart. Jupiter–Ketu, running at the time of the class, can bring a break within a year because Ketu is the 8th lord. Jupiter–Venus, June 2013 to February 2016, is the time to set up her own business: from Jupiter Venus is the 9th lord in the 9th, and from the lagna he is the 7th lord in the 7th in his own sign. Venus with Mercury, aspected by Mars, points to marketing services in technical sectors. The lagna lord Mars and the 5th lord Sun in the 12th, aspected by Saturn, make the dissatisfaction lifelong, so expectations are to be kept modest. The remedy is Lakṣmī Aṣṭottara and Viṣṇu Sahasranāma daily, because Mercury is the 6th lord from the lagna, the Moon and the Amātyakāraka, and sits with Venus.

The same 1974 chart read for career and health. D10 (Taurus lagna): the lagna is empty and aspected only by the 8th lord Jupiter, an enemy of the lagna lord, at about 90%; lagna lord Venus is within 3° of the 4th lord Sun, combust by an enemy. The 10th is not bad — its lords Rahu and Saturn are both touched by Jupiter, but Saturn is in a friendly sign — so the weak lagna and lagna lord are the cause of an unstable career, and a 10th lord’s dasha gave nothing because the chart itself is weak. Mercury dasha, 5th lord in the 6th with the 3rd lord Moon, gives service in short-term positions; the remedy is Vishnu Sahasranama. Rasi (Cancer lagna): debilitated Mars in lagna and a debilitated Purnima Moon in Scorpio with Rahu, aspected by Sun, make her about 70% Pitta and 30% Kapha. Excess Pitta dries the majja dhatu and overloads the nerves — sciatica — and two-thirds of it is in the mind. Rahu antardasha from 2013 looks worse, with relief around 2016 under Jupiter. The diet is light, dry and cooling, without ghee or milk and without starving; pranayama; Durga Saptashloki for health.

A Sagittarius-lagna woman of 31 is still unmarried; the class had looked at her chart in 2007 and 2009 and expected marriage by 2011. In the navāṁśa (Leo lagna) the 7th lord Saturn is in the 12th, hemmed between debilitated Mars and Rāhu, but the teacher names the lagna lord Sun as the main block: in the 6th, in an enemy’s sign, with Ketu, aspected by Saturn. Venus taken as lagna repeats the pattern, and Ātmakāraka Venus and Dārakāraka Jupiter are in ṣaṣṭhāṣṭaka in the navāṁśa — the soul not needing a partner, for which there is no remedy. For timing he uses Chaturaśīti-sama daśā (10th lord in the 10th): Mercury daśā, Jupiter antardaśā can give marriage within a year and a half. Stationary transits fix the window: Jupiter stationary on January 30, 2013 aspects the navāṁśa Sun within about 2°, and Saturn stationary on February 18, 2013 at 17°28' Libra aspects natal navāṁśa Saturn within a fraction of a degree. A man of 52 whose wife never joined him, who fought her suit for over ten years and was divorced in 2007, asks whether to marry again. His lagna sits on the Aquarius–Pisces border, so PVNR tests both Navāṁśa lagnas against Vimśottarī: Jupiter daśā gave the marriage, all of Saturn daśā was trouble, Saturn–Moon gave the divorce — only Aquarius with Gemini Navāṁśa explains all three. The Moon’s antardaśā shows the rule that a natural malefic in the 3rd is good unless debilitated. The second marriage is read from the 8th of the 7th in Navāṁśa — Cancer — taken as a lagna; timing comes from Saturn–Jupiter, the coming Mercury daśā, and the 2012 Tithi Praveśa, where two dusthāna lords join a strong lagna lord in a quadrant from the second-marriage house. Verdict: the second marriage will be markedly better than the first; go for it. Remedy: Lakṣmī and Nārāyaṇa on Wednesdays.

Before pacifying the current imbalance (vikṛti) find the native's basic nature (prakṛti), so the diet does not disturb it. In the example chart the nature is fire — Leo lagna, Sun exalted in Aries, Mars aspecting the lagna — but nothing fiery touches the 6th or 8th; the Vata planets Saturn (6th lord aspecting the lagna lord) and a waning Moon in the 8th do. So the dosha that troubles him is Vata. The diet: not dry, only mildly hot, yogurt and buttermilk to cool the system, mild spices (coriander, cumin, fennel, cardamom, cinnamon), moong dal, green beans and carrots; no chillies, black pepper or hing, no eggplant or okra, potato only if well cooked and not at night. And a tea of Haritaki and Daśamūla, boiled, stood for hours, filtered and drunk at night, which lifts Vata from the digestive tract fast.
