Pharmacology Graduate (1987): D10 Saturn Moolatrikona 2H = Career Read From the 2nd House; AmK in 2H D10 = Work Is a Mission; Saturn(Sick People)+Rahu(Research/High-Tech) = Pharmaceutical Research; D24 Moon 87% on A2 = Medicine/Healing Field Confirmed; First Job: Mercury-Venus AD May 2011 + TP Jupiter Period Apr-Jun = High Probability Window; Vishnu Sahasranama + Saturn 16 Names
A pharmacology graduate (born 1987, master's finished) is looking for his first research job. In the D-10 (Capricorn lagna) the 10th is empty and the 6th is weak, while the 2nd holds Saturn — lagna lord, 2nd lord, in mūlatrikoṇa and the Amātyakāraka — so the career is read from the 2nd house: the work is defined by the resources he has access to. A strong Saturn is not routine work but the hard worker in a lab; Saturn brings sick and suffering people, and the co-lord Rāhu research and modern technology, which fits pharmaceutical trials. For a first job the house is the 5th: Mercury–Ketu has no link with it, Mercury–Venus (yogakāraka, 5th lord in the 5th) begins about May 5, 2011. The Tithi Praveśa of 2010 confirms it — the Hora lord Jupiter is the lagna lord of the annual D-10 in the 11th aspecting the 5th, and his period runs April 6 – June 7. The D-24 shows why both degrees are in pharmaceuticals (the Moon has an 87% aspect on A2 and sits with the lord of A9), and the remedy is worship of Saturn with Viṣṇu Sahasranāma.
Key principle
Just because it is Saturn, don't jump to the conclusion that it is a routine work. Here Saturn is very strong. He is the lagna lord and 2nd lord, and he is very well placed in own house. It is not only own house, but it is Moolatrikona.
Example Charts
Case Study — Pharmacology Graduate Looking for a First Job (1987)
The Question
- Bachelor's and master's both in the pharmaceutical line. The master's, in pharmacology — research on medicines — is finished.
- He wants a research job in pharmaceutical research. When will he find one? Is this the right line for him?
- Mercury mahādaśā runs until 2024. Mercury–Ketu antardaśā is running; Mercury–Venus starts in May 2011.
D-10 — Timing the First Job
The teacher goes straight to the daśāṁśa. Its lagna, Capricorn, holds for 5.5 minutes backward and 7.5 minutes forward of the given time, so the sign at least is reliable.
For someone without a job, the house for finding one is the 5th — recognition of your abilities.
- Mercury (mahādaśā lord): in lagna. 6th and 9th lord → neutral; dispositor of the yogakāraka → slightly positive. In lagna he shows a new beginning and establishing the career in a big way. "We don't see a major problem like, oh, this is the chart of a jobless person."
- Ketu (running antardaśā): 11th lord of gains and bādhaka lord, in the 9th from lagna and from the daśā lord. The 9th is fortune and good guidance. For someone already in a job this would be a fortunate period. For breaking into a job the priority is always a planet connected with the 5th, and Ketu has no such link. "There is some chance, but it doesn't seem very strong" — until May 2011.
- Venus (next antardaśā): yogakāraka for Capricorn, 5th lord in the 5th house, in a friendly sign. He looks as if he is with the Sun, but they are at the two ends of Gemini; Venus is effectively alone. (Venus is at the very start of Gemini: 6th from Capricorn by sign, 5th house in the teacher's house-wise view.)
- Mercury–Venus, from about May 5, 2011 (± 2 weeks), three years long: "very soon he should give a break". Within those three years the career starts and he does well.
D-10 — Is This the Right Career? Which House Carries It
Career is seen from the 2nd, 6th or 10th — whichever is strongest.
- 10th: empty. Its lord Venus is strong, in the 5th.
- 6th: holds the 8th lord Sun; the 6th lord Mercury is in lagna. Not that strong. Had the 10th lord Venus been in the 6th, the career would be read from Venus — but he is not.
- 2nd: holds Saturn, who is lagna lord and 2nd lord, in his own house, and it is his mūlatrikoṇa. (Mars is in a different house in the teacher's house-wise view; by sign the site shows him in Aquarius too.)
- So the career is read from the 2nd house.
Saturn does not mean routine work when he is strong
- Saturn is hard work, labour, discipline.
- Weak Saturn: a rickshaw puller, a labourer on a construction site who earns little.
- Strong Saturn: someone struggling in a lab, a workaholic.
"Just because it is Saturn, don't jump to the conclusion that it is a routine work. Here Saturn is very strong."
- Saturn aspects the 8th house (graha dṛṣṭi, his 7th aspect, on Leo). His nature is to make people work hard; aspecting the 8th he makes this man work very hard.
Saturn is the Amātyakāraka
- Planets tied to the 2nd, 6th and 10th show career. The Amātyakāraka can too.
- The Amātyakāraka shows the purpose of your life, the work you came to accomplish. In many charts he has nothing to do with the career houses.
"When Amātyakāraka has something to do with the career, the person's work is like a mission."
What a career from the 2nd house means
- When the 2nd is stronger than the 6th and 10th, the work is defined by the resources the person has access to — more than by what he has accomplished or the struggle he is engaged in.
- The 2nd is Aquarius: Saturn is there and the other owner is Rāhu. Saturn and Rāhu define the work.
- Rāhu: digging deep, research (a student's answer, accepted); modern technology, high-tech.
- Saturn: an ambience of suffering, fear, healthcare. Sick people, old people, suffering people — especially a retrograde Saturn.
- "Maybe not now, but in the long run, he may be working on pharmaceutical trials and he may be dealing with people who are suffering."
Other checks
- Planetary aspects on the 2nd house: none major. Sun is the biggest, at 64%.
- From Mercury, the kāraka: he is in lagna, so nothing new.
- From the Moon — a reference to use for someone whose work is at the mental level. Saturn is in the 4th as 3rd and 4th lord and aspects the 10th; the 10th lord Sun is in the 8th.
- From lagna, from Mercury and from the Moon, Saturn stands out each time.
Verdict: the line he is pursuing is a good one for him. The time right now is not conducive; after next May things look more promising.
Tithi Praveśa — Narrowing the Window
Current year (Tithi Praveśa of 2010)
- Hora lord, the ruler of the year: Jupiter.
- In the D-10 of the year chart Jupiter is the lagna lord, in the 11th, aspecting the 5th. The one weakness: he is debilitated.
- The 5th lord Moon is not well placed, so he is not the candidate.
- Jupiter's daśā in the year: April 6 – June 7 — the same weeks in which Mercury–Venus begins in the natal chart.
"So in the month of April, May, and early June, there is a good chance of finding a job."
Next year (Tithi Praveśa of 2011)
- Hora lord Sun. In the D-10, lagna lord Venus is in the 3rd with the 4th lord Sun; the 5th lord Mercury is in the 7th. A 5th lord in a kendra may give a job.
- Mercury's daśā falls at the end of 2011 and the beginning of 2012 — the second possibility.
- (The site's cast of this year chart is a few minutes off the teacher's and its D-10 lagna degree is earlier, so by sign it shows Venus and Sun in the 4th and Mercury in the 8th.)
Which is stronger: the current year's chart. Lagna lord in the 11th aspecting the 5th "seems more likely" — a job towards the end of the current year, in spring, just before his birthday.
Propitiation
The indications differ — Saturn is strong, the daśā is Mercury's, the 6th lord from the Amātyakāraka in D-10 is the Moon. The teacher settles it this way:
- The daśā lord Mercury sits in Saturn's sign in D-10, so Saturn holds the key for the daśā lord.
- In the rāśi chart Saturn is the yogakāraka, in the 2nd house of wealth. He can give wealth.
- → Worship Saturn.
- Viṣṇu Sahasranāma — Viṣṇu can be worshipped for Saturn and Mercury both.
- In addition a Śanaiścara mantra: the śloka of the sixteen names of Saturn, chanted several times, or the 108 names.
- "Do some prayer of Saturn or do Viṣṇu Sahasranāma or both."
D-24 — Why Both Degrees Are in Pharmaceuticals
A student raises it: in D-24 the 9th lord Jupiter is with the Moon in the 5th. D-24 lagna is Aries.
Master's = A2 (the ārūḍha of the 2nd, the tangible side — from the previous class)
- Who shows pharmaceuticals? The Moon: curing.
- A2 is in Pisces. The planetary aspects on it: the Moon has 87.15%, the largest.
- A master's in a field of curing and medicines makes sense.
Bachelor's = A9
- A9 is in Sagittarius, the 9th itself. Jupiter is lord of both the 9th house and A9 and has a 97.3% aspect on A9. Jupiter controls A9.
- But Jupiter is with the Moon, who is the 4th lord — the basic controller of education in D-24. They form Gajakesarī yoga and a 4th lord–9th lord rājayoga.
- Jupiter is under the Moon's influence, so the Moon ends up controlling the bachelor's too.
The Moon is the link between A9 and A2
- She has the biggest aspect on A2, sits with the lord of A9, and is the dispositor of the 2nd lord Venus.
- Bachelor's and master's both come in a field the Moon shows.
(The ārūḍhas and the aspect percentages are from the teacher's software; the site does not compute them. Counting by sign in the site's D-24 does not give A2 in Pisces or A9 in Sagittarius; the difference is not settled.)
Software Note
A student asks about the planetary-aspect screen. To see aspects inside a divisional chart, right-click, open the options and set both charts to that division (D-24 and D-24). The check-box there is only for seeing which planets of a transit or Tithi Praveśa chart aspect natal points.
