Mars-Rahu Kujasthambhana, Subramanya Remedy & a House Buying Prediction
Two planets together exchange results unless they hate each other. Mars and Rahu do not: like a police officer and an underworld don in one room they open fire, and the house they sit in is damaged. This is Kujasthambhana, and the remedy is Subramanya, who rides the peacock — one prayer weakens Rahu the snake and strengthens Mars the warrior. With the pair in a sign of Venus he is prayed to as the husband of Valli and Devasena. Kuja dosha is taken up briefly and called highly overrated. The 1967 example has Mars and Rahu in the 2nd of D4 and asks when he will buy a house: in Mars mahadasha the Saturn antardasha (November 2006 to December 2007) is picked, because Saturn owns A4, sits in A11 and aspects UL; the D4 Narayana Dasha of Capricorn narrows it to after March 29, 2007; and the 2007–08 Tithi Pravesha, with A4, A9 and A10 in lagna with Venus, points to the Jupiter or Venus period of that year.
Key principle
If you pray to Subramanya, you are weakening Rahu and at the same time you are strengthening Mars. If you pray to Hanuman, you strengthen Mars, but you don't do anything about Rahu.
Example Charts
Mars-Rahu Combination — Kujasthambhana
The question arises in Example Chart 3, where Mars and Rahu are together in the 2nd house of D4. Will the Mars dasha give Rahu's results?
Who Exchanges Results
- Any two planets together exchange their results — unless they hate each other. Jupiter with Mercury, Moon with Sun: each acts like the other.
- Sun and Rahu: a king and a rogue. No exchange. But the king does not act at once.
- Jupiter and Rahu: a priest and a rogue. No exchange. The priest tolerates the rogue and tries to reform him: "I am telling you for your own sake, otherwise you will not get moksha."
- Mars and Rahu: an army commander, or a police officer, and an underworld don. No talk, no delay.
"You have a police officer and an underworld don in the same house — probably what you have is gunfire. So it is worse than Sun–Rahu, Jupiter–Rahu."
- The reason is not that one is malefic. They are fundamentally opposite.
Kujasthambhana
- Rahu with Mars makes Mars very aggressive and very disturbed — an extremely angry Mars. The yoga is called Kujasthambhana.
- The two enjoy the fight. The place they are in gets "bullet holes everywhere." In general, a house holding Mars and Rahu together is said to be ruined.
- Some call the combination a sarpa dosha. With Mars and Rahu in the 5th house they say: pray to Subramanya, or no children.
- Vijaya Yoga: Sanjay Rath called Mars with Rahu, in certain houses only, a Vijaya Yoga, in an article on the US–Iraq war. Victory comes only after a big fight and much destruction. The teacher notes it is not in any classic and must carry many qualifications.
In This D4
- Mars is at 2° of his sign in the rasi chart. Rahu is at 18°30′, which is 3°30′ into his quarter of the sign (15°–22°30′). The difference is 1°30′ on a quarter of 7°30′; multiplied by four, they are 6° apart on the scale of a D4 sign. Close, though not on the same degree.
- The 2nd house of D4 — how resourceful he is in owning a residence, houses, plots — is weakened.
Subramanya (Kartikeya) — Remedy for Mars-Rahu
- For Mars with Rahu, always pray to Subramanya.
- Rahu is the snake. Mars is the warrior. Subramanya rides the peacock, the king of snakes.
"If you pray to Subramanya, you are weakening Rahu and at the same time you are strengthening Mars. If you pray to Hanuman, you strengthen Mars, but you don't do anything about Rahu."
Which Form
- Subramanya can be prayed to as the leader of the gods, as the husband of Valli and Devasena, as Durga's son, as Ganesha's younger brother.
- Here Mars and Rahu are in Libra: the 7th sign of the zodiac, ruled by Venus, the planet of love. So pray to him as the husband of Valli and Devasena — Valli Subramanya, Devasena Subramanya, or Valli Devasena Subramanya.
- The Subramanya Ashtakam, which addresses him as Valli's lord, serves.
Rahu Need Not Be Destroyed
- A student asks about weakening Rahu. "You don't have to kill the snake. Just put it next to the peacock, not disturbing anybody. That is enough."
- In this D4 Mars and Rahu are the 8th lord and the 6th lord. If they coexist without fighting, the two together are a Raja Yoga.
Kuja Dosha (Mangal Dosha) — Overview
A student raises Kuja dosha. The teacher answers briefly and keeps the full rules for another class.
- Kuja dosha: Mars in any of several houses — the 4th, 7th, 8th and others, more than half the houses — counted from lagna, from Moon or from Venus. A person with it is called Mangalik.
- Superimpose the houses from all three and nearly the whole zodiac is covered. "Like 80% of people have Kuja dosha."
- What it shows is a Martian, aggressive nature. The matching theory: both partners should have it or neither. If only one is aggressive, the other suffers.
- There are many riders that cancel it. Not every astrologer knows them all, so two astrologers give opposite verdicts on the same pair, and good marriages are rejected.
"It's a very highly overrated thing. Irrespective of which house Mars is in, somebody can be very aggressive. It all depends on the rest of the chart."
- Mars is not a pro-marriage planet unless he owns the 7th. In lagna or aspecting the 7th he can delay marriage or bring problems. But no thumb rule settles it; judge the whole chart.
Example chart
Question (class of 2006): he has bought no property. When will he buy a house?
- The fact that he asks shows he is serious about buying soon. That is psychology, not astrology, and it must not bias the reading: a friend of the teacher has been house-hunting for two and a half years.
- No conditional dasha applies. Vimshottari first, then Narayana.
D4 Placements
- Mars (3rd and 8th lord) and Rahu (6th lord) in Libra, the 2nd.
- Saturn (5th and 6th lord) in Pisces, the 7th, which is A11.
- Jupiter (4th lord) and Mercury (lagna lord) in Cancer, the 11th.
- Moon (11th lord) in Scorpio, the 3rd.
- A4 is in Aquarius, UL in Sagittarius, AL in Taurus.
Vimshottari: Mars Mahadasha
- Mars is the 3rd lord, of investing in a residence: thumbs up. the native is also the 8th lord, and can still spend on a residence.
- From AL (Taurus) Mars is in the 6th, a good house for a malefic. From A4 (Aquarius) he is in the 9th. Overall the Mars dasha is good for buying a house.
- the native is with Rahu in the 2nd house of resources and will not take Rahu's results (Part 7). The 2nd house is weak. Subramanya is the remedy (Part 8).
- Antardasha now: Jupiter. Next: Saturn, November 2006 to December 19, 2007.
| Antardasha lord | Reading |
|---|---|
| Jupiter | Gives Mercury's results. Mercury is lagna lord in the 11th: a new beginning, but little to do with the 3rd or 4th. Jupiter is the 4th lord, but a benefic in the 6th from A4 — not helpful to A4 |
| Saturn | Owns A4 and has argala on it (2nd from it). Aspects UL. Sits in A11, tangible gain. Aspects lagna. 11th from AL: gain in status. Lord of the 5th, purva punya. From Mars, the dasha lord, he is yogakaraka (4th and 5th lord) |
- The class places Saturn in the 5th from Mars. In the chart Pisces is the 6th from Libra; the published class notes have him in the 6th from Mars, well placed there as a malefic.
- Saturn makes more sense than Jupiter or Mercury.
"Until this November, the chance is minimal. From this November, the chance is high, very high, for a period of a year."
Narayana Dasha of D4: Capricorn
- Capricorn dasha began January 28, 2003. Capricorn is the 5th house.
- Capricorn is prishtodaya: its own results come in the last third. The lord Saturn is in Pisces, ubhayodaya: his results come in the middle third. The first third goes to occupants and aspectors — Moon, the 11th lord, debilitated in the 3rd. Some scope, no strong chance. That third is ruled out.
- Middle third, May 2006 to October 2009: Saturn's results.
Four Quarters of a Planet's Period
- Benefic: (1) the house he occupies — he forgets why he came and helps the people there; (2) his yogas with the planets he is with; (3) the houses he owns; (4) his own avastha — exalted, debilitated, retrograde.
- Malefic: the reverse. (1) avastha; (2) the houses he owns; (3) yogas; (4) the house he occupies.
- Saturn is a malefic. What will give the house is what he owns — A4 and the 5th house. That is the second quarter: March 29, 2007 to January 2008.
- Put against the Saturn antardasha in Vimshottari, the window is March 29 to December 19, 2007 — nine months.
Dasha Pravesha Chart of Capricorn Dasha
- In the Narayana Dasha he is at the end of Leo antardasha. Cancer follows, then Gemini — the one the dates above point to.
- In the D4 of the Capricorn dasha pravesha chart, as the teacher reads it: Leo holds a Raja Yoga of sorts but with Rahu — tension. Cancer is the 8th house with its lord badly placed with Rahu — not a strong sign. Gemini has Mercury in his own sign giving Bhadra Yoga in the house of desire — a good sign. Aries (exalted Sun, 9th lord in the 5th) and Aquarius (Saturn, Mars and Ketu in the 3rd — Vipareeta Raja Yoga) are also auspicious.
- Leo and Cancer antardashas can bring trouble; Gemini, Aries and Aquarius good things. Gemini is confirmed.
Tithi Pravesha 2007–08
Rasi:
- Jupiter is in the 4th house, of home and comfort.
- Parivartana of the 4th and 5th lords: Mars, the 4th lord (and 9th lord), is in the 5th; Jupiter, the 5th lord, is in the 4th. A Raja Yoga showing Vishnu's blessing. A good year.
D4:
- Jupiter is the 5th lord, of purva punya, and the 8th lord, of changing house, in the 10th. the native is with the 4th lord (Ketu) and the 11th lord (Mercury).
- Sun, the lagna lord, is in the 12th, his marana karaka sthana: "death" to the current residence. Displacement is very likely.
- Venus is in lagna. the native is the 3rd lord (initiative, investing in property) and the 10th lord, dispositor of the yoga in the 10th.
- A4, A9 and A10 are together in lagna with him.
"A9 and A10 being together with A4 is very good for acquiring a nice house and actually being very lucky on account of acquiring a house. the native may be seen by people to be a very lucky guy."
- Mars, the 4th lord and yogakaraka, is in the 11th house of gains, in A3 (a tangible initiative) and in AL (status).
Which period of the year:
- Mars: February 4–25 only. The Narayana Dasha said after March. Probably not.
- Jupiter (4th lord, hora lord, in the yoga): from May 24.
- Venus (3rd lord in lagna with A4): September 3 to November 12. The strongest candidate.
- Rahu is in the 4th house but not strong.
Prediction: some movement after November 2006; the purchase after March 29, 2007, most likely in the Jupiter or Venus period of the 2007–08 year. "Next year will be a good year. the native will buy a house."
Remedies
- Subramanya for Mars-Rahu in the 2nd of D4: the Subramanya Ashtakam daily for the next year, with the intention of buying a house. "Sources are weak. I didn't say no. I said weak. So you need to propitiate."
- Kali for Saturn, whose results dominate in both dashas. She was prescribed earlier for another matter; it helps here too. The class notes say to begin once Saturn takes over, after November.
- Add the house to the sankalpa of the puja: "I want a good house."
Mars + Ketu in the 8th House (Rasi Chart)
A closing remark on the same chart, in the rasi chart, not D4.
- The 9th lord in the 8th is never good. Here Mars, lord of the 9th, is in the 8th with Ketu — both lords of Scorpio, the 9th, are in the 8th. It shows much anxiety in carrying out his dharma.
- The 9th shows dharma and guidance. The 8th is also the house of tapasya, and Ketu is there. Used for spiritual causes the placement turns good.
- Two explosive planets in the 8th give explosive events, even accidents, if left unused.
"The same Mars–Ketu combination will be happy if you are pursuing astrology or some spiritual things or some yoga. If you don't do those things, they will be troubled."
- They are tools. They can be used for the one end or for the other.
