1953 Chart (Cancer Lagna): Saturn Exalted D10 = Neutral; Mercury AD = Safe; Ketu AD = Break Risk; TP 2011 Aug-Feb = Risky Window; Lalitha Worship. 1969 Chart (Libra Lagna, Aquarius D10): Jupiter MD = Debilitated 12H D10 = Average Career Until 2018; Venus AD = Bhadaka in 10H; Saturn Dasha 2018=D10 Lagna Lord in 7H+Rasi Yogakaraka=Business; Return India in 2011-2012
Two career readings done the same way: the natal D10 and Vimshottari give the possibility, the Tithi Pravesha D10 gives the months. A man born in 1953 fears the next round of layoffs. In his Virgo D10 Saturn is the exalted 5th and 6th lord with the lagna lord Mercury, so Saturn dasha is neutral and Mercury antardasha cannot take the job; Ketu antardasha from May 2011, the 3rd lord with the 7th lord, can give a break. The 2010 annual chart is good; the 2011 one, read from the 6th house Leo as lagna, has maraka after maraka, and August 21, 2011 to February 28, 2012 is the dangerous stretch. A man born in 1969, out of work in the UK, runs Jupiter dasha: for his Aquarius D10 Jupiter is a functional malefic, debilitated in the 12th, so the career stays average until 2018. Saturn, lagna lord of D10 in the 7th and yogakaraka of his Libra rasi lagna, promises business after that. His D4 shows the exalted 5th lord Venus bringing him back to the motherland, best at the end of 2011 or in mid-2012.
Key principle
The bottom line is, you will have an average career until 2018. So prepare the ground so that after 2018 there is a chance of success in business. Be a little humble during this period. Don't expect too much and don't complain about lack of appreciation.
Example Charts
Example chart
Calculation: "I had to switch to Surya Siddhanta." Lagna 20°40' Cancer, Moon 7°44' Taurus in the teacher's software. The site's chart has lagna 20°32' Cancer and Moon 7°38' Taurus, and puts Rahu and Ketu in the next daśāṁśa (see below).
Question: layoffs have begun at his company. He was not hit. Will there be another round, and is his job at risk over the next year or so?
Class date: about November 2010.
Natal D10 — Saturn Daśā
D10 lagna: Virgo. Vimśottarī: Saturn–Mercury running; Saturn–Ketu follows in a few months.
- Saturn is 5th and 6th lord for Virgo — a neutral planet. He is exalted (Libra) and with the lagna lord Mercury.
- "If you look at the divisional longitudes, Saturn and Mercury are in the 1st house. They are extremely close." The D10 lagna is in late Virgo and both planets are in early Libra: 2nd by sign, 1st house counted by longitude from the lagna degree.
- By what Parashara taught that day the two are not yogakārakas. Still, lagna lord and 6th lord together in the 1st house is a combination for recognition.
- As 6th lord Saturn gives some struggle, fights and obstacles to overcome. Overall: neutral, neither benefic nor malefic.
Mercury Antardaśā — safe until May 2011
- Mercury is lagna lord and 10th lord of D10. Losing the job in his period is very unlikely. "Even if he loses, he will immediately find another one even before he steps out." A lagna lord can give a new beginning.
- AL is at 9° Libra in D10. Saturn and Mercury are in the 12th house from AL: some loss or fall of status is possible, but they do not show losing the job.
- A neutral planet and a benefic so placed cannot kill the job. Safe till May at least.
Ketu Antardaśā — the risk
- Starts about May 20, 2011.
- Ketu is 3rd lord (Scorpio). The 3rd lord can give a break.
- Ketu gives results by association and he is with Jupiter. Jupiter is a malefic for Virgo lagna and the 7th lord — break in service. In the class's chart both are in Gemini, the 10th; the site's D10 shows Ketu in Taurus and Rahu in Scorpio.
- In Ketu's period either thoughts of his own business come up or a break in service is possible.
- Risk window from the natal chart: the second half of 2011 and the first half of 2012 — one year from May 2011. "Right now it seems quite conducive."
Tithi Praveśa 2010 — a good year
D10 of the annual chart: Pisces lagna, Moon in lagna. Ruler of the year (hora lord): Mars.
- Mars is the 9th lord, exalted in the 11th house of gains. A link of 9th and 11th is always good — fortune. Jupiter is with him, though some degrees away.
- Saturn in the 6th: a malefic in the 6th makes him work hard and overcome whatever obstacles come. Not a combination for losing a job.
- Ketu in the 9th, Rahu in the 3rd (the site shows the nodes one sign back: Rahu in the 2nd, Ketu in the 8th).
- Sun, the 6th lord, in the 10th in a great friend's sign: career smooth, recognised, in the good books of the authorities.
- A job is lost through the 7th, 8th and 3rd houses, and nothing bad is going on there.
- Mercury's period of the year, May 25 – July 20, 2011, needs a little care: Venus and Mercury are in the 12th as 8th and 7th lords — mārakas. But the chart is strong overall and such mārakas cannot generally kill. A job loss in this Tithi Praveśa year is very unlikely.
- From May to August 2011 the natal antardaśā has changed to Ketu, but this same annual chart still runs, and it is good.
Tithi Praveśa 2011 — the dangerous months
Annual chart of August 21, 2011. D10 lagna Pisces in class. Ruler of the year: Sun. (The site's Tithi Praveśa moment is a few minutes off the Surya Siddhanta one and gives an Aquarius D10 lagna; read the houses below from Pisces.)
- Sun, the ruler of the year and 6th lord, is in the 7th house (Virgo) with a bunch of planets, among them Venus, the 3rd and 8th lord.
- Take the 6th house, Leo, as lagna — service is shown by Leo. From Leo, Virgo is the 2nd house:
- Venus is 3rd lord in the 2nd, debilitated — a māraka combination, the worst of the group.
- Jupiter, the 8th lord from Leo, is with him — māraka.
- Sun, lagna lord of Leo, is with the 3rd and 8th lords. Saturn is in the 2nd too, and Ketu afflicts Sun.
- Rahu is the 7th lord from Leo placed in the 8th from Leo (Pisces) — a māraka for the position.
- A student read Rahu as 6th lord in the 8th, counting from Virgo. Corrected: "Service is shown by Simha, not Kanya. Kanya is the end of service."
- Sun is not so bad: he is in the 2nd from the 6th but is himself the 6th lord, and may not kill the service. But as hora lord he gives the results of the other planets easily.
- Annual daśās: Jupiter August 22 – October 23, 2011; Rahu October 23 – December 1; then Venus; Sun up to the end of February 2012. Moon follows, and Moon is good.
- Dicey period: August 21, 2011 to February 28, 2012 — about six months.
"There is a pretty strong chance of losing job during that period. This is just an indication — nothing can be 100% sure ever. Build the situation in such a way that by this time it will be difficult to get it off you. Because there is a strong chance in this period, try to avert it through conscious effort. Until then you are safe, in my opinion."
The natal chart gives the possibility (Ketu antardaśā from May 2011); the annual chart narrows it and strengthens it.
Propitiation
- Amātyakāraka is Rahu. For Rahu the teacher counts backwards: the 6th from Rahu, counted backwards in D10, is Cancer. Its lord Moon is the pālana devatā. (This needs Rahu in Sagittarius in D10, as in the class's chart; the site's Rahu falls in Scorpio.)
- Moon is also in the 6th house from lagna in D10 by longitude (Pisces, the 7th by sign).
- Moon: sāttvik forms of the Divine Mother — Pārvatī, Lalitā, Gaurī.
- Saturn daśā is running, and for Saturn daśā the best propitiation is Kṛṣṇa. Mercury is lagna lord and 10th lord in D10. So one idea is Viṣṇu Sahasranāma; the other is worship of Lalitā.
Example chart
Lagna: Libra in rāśi; Aquarius in D10; Capricorn in D4.
Question: an IT professional in the UK. Career unstable for two or three years, out of work since September 2010. Should he look for a job in the UK or move back to India?
Vimśottarī: Jupiter daśā until 2018, Venus antardaśā from about August 2010 to early 2013.
D4 — will he go back, and will he stay?
- In rāśi Jupiter and Venus are both in the 12th house.
- D4 shows residence. Jupiter is the 12th lord of D4 and aspects the 12th (graha dṛṣṭi from Gemini on Sagittarius): being abroad. He has been abroad for most of Jupiter daśā.
- Venus in D4 is the 5th lord, exalted, and the yogakāraka. The 5th lord can show repatriation to the motherland. From the daśā lord Jupiter as lagna, Venus owns the 12th but also the 5th. Exalted 5th lord from lagna and from the daśā lord: a chance of going back.
- The real question: if he goes, will he have to come back? The teacher knows people who returned, could not readjust, and left again after a couple of years.
- Sun and Moon antardaśās: both tied to the 8th house of D4 (Sun its lord, Moon in it) — a lot of instability.
- Mars is bādhaka lord in D4; Rahu is in the bādhakasthāna. In their antardaśās, 2015–2017, there is some chance of moving to a faraway country again.
- Saturn daśā from 2018: Saturn is lagna lord of D4 in the 7th house of long travel. He may give long travels but has little to do with the 9th or 12th. As lagna lord he keeps the person in the motherland.
- Verdict: if he goes now there will be instability for a few years — moving from one Indian city to another — but he will stay and will not have to come back. An auspicious time to go.
- Window from the natal daśā: open since August 2010; he should go before March 2013.
D10 — the career outlook
- D10 lagna is Aquarius. Jupiter owns the 2nd and 11th — a malefic for this lagna. He is debilitated, in the 12th house, in his enemy's sign. Not a great daśā.
- Venus antardaśā: Venus is bādhaka lord in the 10th house, so he can give trouble and unexpected setbacks. He is also the yogakāraka for Kumbha lagna and willing to give stability. But the mahādaśā is Jupiter's, and Venus has no sway over Jupiter — they are enemies. In a friend's mahādaśā this antardaśā could deliver; here it cannot force the result. Not a great antardaśā.
- Sun antardaśā, next, is worse: Sun is the 7th lord in an inimical sign, in the 12th — maraṇa kāraka sthāna. Venus is relatively better because he is at least a yogakāraka.
- Saturn daśā, from 2018: Saturn is lagna lord of D10 in the 7th house — some success in business. He is at the very start of Leo in D10 (gaṇḍānta), yet better than Jupiter. And in the rāśi chart, for Libra lagna, Saturn is the yogakāraka. Saturn daśā will be better.
"Instead of struggling abroad until Saturn Dasha comes, it's not a bad idea to relocate to India and then build a base there and prepare the situation for having a business after 2018."
The advice on expectations
The teacher had given this advice privately two or three years earlier. The instability was partly the native's own doing: he had resigned a job for lack of interest and appreciation, found another, and did not keep it — he did not think the job worthy of him.
- A functional malefic's daśā from the 12th house. In some antardaśās the career was good by luck; do not expect that to continue.
- Selling permanent assets in India to sustain life in the UK: "not a bad idea, but not a great idea either."
"The bottom line is, you will have an average career until 2018. So prepare the ground so that after 2018 there is a chance of success in business. Be a little humble during this period. Don't expect too much and don't complain about lack of appreciation. Whatever you have a chance to do, just do it."
Tithi Praveśa charts — the job
2009 annual chart (the year in which he lost the job, in September 2010). In class: hora lord Saturn; the job went in Moon's period. Moon is debilitated. He was contracting, not in service, so take the 10th house of work as lagna in place of the 6th: from there Moon is the 3rd lord in the 7th — a māraka. From lagna he is the 12th lord of loss. Sun and Moon are also together (amāvāsyā yoga). The site's annual chart for that year does not reproduce these placements.
2010 annual chart (D10 lagna Libra, hora lord Sun) — can he find a job now?
- Mars, whose period has just ended: 2nd and 7th lord in the bādhakasthāna. No.
- Mercury, running: 9th lord with lagna lord Venus, reasonably close. By longitude they are in the 4th house (the 5th by sign). In the 5th he would have been stronger, but he can give a job.
- Saturn, next: better still. He is the yogakāraka, exalted. By longitude he falls in the 12th house (Libra, the lagna sign) and aspects the 6th house of service. End of December and January carry the better chance.
- Then Jupiter — not that good; Rahu — okay.
- Best period to find a job: now until January 31, 2011. The time is conducive; if he looks seriously he can find one.
Tithi Praveśa charts — when to move
- 2010 chart, D4: no good indication in the 5th house. Not this year.
- 2011 chart, D4: the 5th lord Venus is in the 8th house of change, close to the 11th lord and with the ruler of the year. Some chance, not a strong one.
- 2012 chart: hora lord Venus in the 12th, the 5th house aspected by a bunch of planets, lagna lord Saturn in lagna. A chance in Saturn's period.
- Plan the move for 2011–2012: after October 2011, at the end of 2011 (Mercury's period of the 2011 chart) or in the summer of 2012 (Venus's period).
The annual D4 placements for 2011 and 2012 are as stated in class; the site's annual charts for those years come out with a different D4 lagna.
