4th Lord Venus — Combust

Rasi, Aquarius lagna. The 4th house is Taurus, so Venus is the 4th lord. He is also the 9th lord: a yogakaraka, and the 9th is higher education and fortune.

• Venus is in the 5th house (Gemini): a very good placement.
• He is vargottama — Punarvasu 3rd pada, Gemini in rasi and navamsa.
• Rahu–Ketu axis: not the problem. Ketu (10th lord) with Venus and Rahu (lagna lord) aspecting him join a kendra lord, the lagna lord and a trine lord. And Ketu is at 6°, Venus at 29° — opposite ends of the sign, so the influence is weak. It would have been a saviour.
• The problem is the Sun. The Sun (7th lord) is in the same sign, a little less than 7° from Venus. Venus is combust.

"Venus is basically Parashurama and Sun is Rama. So when they are together, it is basically like Parashurama being with Rama and losing his luster."

• Any combust planet is weak according to Parashara; Venus especially, because he is the Sun's enemy.
• So there is a problem with Venus for education and for fortune. Venus needs to be strengthened.

Jupiter Dasha in the Rasi Chart

Vimshottari: Jupiter dasha runs till 2018, when he is 26. Bachelor's and master's fall in it, so Jupiter decides the education. Jupiter–Venus begins in April 2010; he enters college in fall 2010.

• From lagna: Jupiter is 2nd and 11th lord — a malefic for Aquarius — in the 7th house (Leo), a quadrant, aspecting lagna.
• From Mercury, karaka of learning: Jupiter is 6th and 9th lord, a mixed planet. By longitude he is in the 1st house from Mercury (see "Karaka as Lagna" below): basic intelligence in learning is there, but not in full.
• As 6th lord he brings obstacles, as 9th lord protection. This is the verse read in Part 1: the two tend to cancel; see which is stronger.

Mars from Every Reference

Rasi:

• From lagna: 10th lord (Scorpio), the kāryeśa, in the 3rd house in Aries, his mūlatrikoṇa. He aspects the 10th house by his 8th aspect.
• From the 10th house: he is in the 6th. A malefic in the 6th from a house guards that house well. He is not like the combust 4th lord Venus.
• From Mercury (karaka of work, 18°51' Cancer): 10th lord, and at 23° Aries inside the 10th house by longitude, just past its start.
• From Moon: he aspects the 10th house (Cancer).
• Amātyakāraka. In Bharani nakshatra.

Navamsa (the chart of fortune): 10th lord in the 10th house, Scorpio.

Dasamsa:

• From lagna: 6th lord in the 6th, and that sign is A10.
• From Moon: 10th lord in the 10th. Moon is the reference for mind and emotion, lagna for intellect; both matter for work.
• From exalted Mercury: he aspects the 10th and the 6th.
• He is in Īśānāṁśa, so some religious work is possible.

Strength:

• Own sign in rasi, navamsa and dasamsa.
• Vimsopaka bala 82%. Shadbala 127%.
• Paravatamsa: of the ten vargas he is in own sign, exaltation or mūlatrikoṇa in six.

"So that strong Mars in the 3rd house shows a go-getter. He is somebody who will go and get what he wants."

Judgment: Jupiter is also a good planet, but Mars is the most suitable. Even with the 10th lord Jupiter weak in the D-10, the 6th lord is very strong and the 10th house holds an exalted planet; and Jupiter has nīcabhaṅga.

Dashas — Vimshottari and Shatabdika

Shatabdika Dasha:

• It applies when the lagna is vargottama. Lagna here is in Shatabhisha 3rd pada: Aquarius in rasi and navamsa.
• Because the condition rests on the lagna, the teacher reckons it from the lagna and not from the Moon.
• He expected it before he looked: with so strong a D-10, a Mars dasha had to come at a good age.

"From 2017-18 timeframe, his career will start and he will very quickly climb the ladder of success in career. That is my feeling, because Mars is exceedingly strong. With such a strong Mars in an upachaya, somebody has to do well in career, in life."

• At the peak he can be a well-recognized engineer, or the CEO of the company.
• Cricket analogy: it is a Twenty20 match. However many runs you score now changes little; the last over is the crucial one, and you will do well in it. Conserve your energy and go for success in that over. Prepare for 2017.

Advice to the Family

Background the father gives: the boy has a passion for mechanical work and is good with his hands. One very bad year (10th grade) pulled his average down, so engineering admission looks hard. He is working hard now.

• Stick to mechanical engineering, or any engineering — a field of Mars.
• Medicine is also a Martian field: Sun and Mars together in the D-10 can show it. But Mars is alone in Scorpio there. Engineering is more indicated.
• Education is one thing, career another. Education here is average or a little above. The career is good.
• If a good school will not take him, find one that is happy with his GPA. He does not need MIT.
• He may be a late bloomer. A rocky ride for a while; then the Viparita Raja Yoga gives its result.
• Venus in the D-10: as 5th lord he wants to give recognition. Exalted in the 10th with Mahapurusha yoga, he gives it when Venus periods come.

"So think of career, don't think of education, grades, all these things. Some people don't get great grades, they don't really graduate from MIT or Harvard, but they do well in career, they go to the top."

Remedies

Choosing the deity: Mars is in Bharani, Yama's nakshatra, and in own sign in rasi, navamsa and dasamsa. Hanuman and Subrahmanya are the two possibilities. Given Yama's nakshatra, the teacher goes with Hanuman.

The nimitta: while speaking he asked in his mind for a sign to settle Hanuman against Kumara. His eyes fell on a picture of Rama in the room that he had never noticed in all the classes held there. The host explains it is brought upstairs only for celebrations.

"For the first time I was thinking of Hanuman and I asked God for a nimitta to confirm Hanuman rather than Kumaraswamy, Skanda. The picture came in front of my eyes."

Bheemarupi Hanuman Stotra

• Composer: Samarth Ramdas, Shivaji's guru — "one of the greatest saints of the last 1000 years". He established 108 Hanuman pithas, across South India and some in the North. He is held to be an amsa of Hanuman himself.
• Language: Marathi. Tulsidas composed the Hanuman Chalisa in Hindi; this is as powerful.
• The form: a fierce, strong, fiery Hanuman, destroyer of enemies — not the sattvik Hanuman repeating Rama's name. Ramdas was guiding Shivaji's fight against the invaders and worshipped Hanuman in this form. The Hanuman Chalisa is not tied to one form; it celebrates many aspects of Hanuman.

"People say that if you chant that stotra 54 times every day like this for 108 days, the belief is that you are guaranteed to see Hanuman. That is the belief in some circles. But if you sincerely do it, it is possible also. And I know some people for whom it actually happened."

Why this stotra for this boy: Mars is in the 6th in the dasamsa and the 3rd in rasi — in upachayas.

"My image of this young boy is somebody who is a go-getter who destroys all the enemies, who does things basically."
