Jaya Yoga & Service vs. Business

Jaya Yoga, the yoga of victory: lagna lord reasonably strong, 10th lord exalted, 6th lord debilitated. It rests on a wider rule: 6th, 8th and 12th lords debilitated are good materially, and exalted they are bad news. The service-or-business thumb rule: a strong 6th house shows a worker, a strong 7th someone with his own business; it is applied to Sanjay Gandhi's Dasamsa and to his elder brother seen in the Drekkana. The page also carries the reading of his Rasi chart: the cold Saturnine lagna, Mars in the 3rd from Arudha Lagna, Venus and Jupiter one degree apart in Arudha Lagna, and the 2nd from Arudha Lagna.

Dusthana Yogas — Harsha, Sarala & Vimala

A dusthana lord sitting in his own house is not a bad placement. Harsha Yoga (6th lord in the 6th): cheerful and at peace. Sarala Yoga (8th lord in the 8th): straightforward and honest. Vimala Yoga (12th lord in the 12th): gives happily, contented, pure in purpose. PVNR points to both in his own charts — Vimala Yoga of Venus in his D7, Sarala Yoga of Mars in his rasi chart.

Raj Yogas from Charakarakas — Vajpayee & George W. Bush

Two Raj Yogas from the Charakarakas in the Rashi chart. Parasara: Atmakaraka with Putrakaraka — the soul joined by souls that follow it blindly — gives a rise through following, and in the 1st or 5th house makes a Maharaja. Jaimini: Atmakaraka with Pitrukaraka gives a rise through the favour of elders. Vajpayee has Mercury (AK) with Saturn (PuK) in lagna; George W. Bush has Venus (AK) with Mercury (PiK) in lagna. The favour is one-way and need not show in the other person's chart; for guru and disciple use the Bhratrikaraka.

Muhurta Charts, Ghatika Lagna, Yogada & Special Yogas

When a leader's birth data is hidden or doubtful, the moment he files or accepts a nomination is public: that moment and place are the birth of the candidacy. Read only the Rasi chart, with the usual house meanings applied to the candidacy and the 5th as the house of power. Vajpayee's nomination had Moon in the 8th; Kerry's has the lagna lord in the 2nd from the 5th; Bush's has lagna lord Mars with 5th lord Sun in the 5th, and Moon passing Rahu on its way to the lagna — a setback, then recovery. Result Exchange Rule, Vipreeta Raja Yoga & Arudha Pada Analysis

The 2004–05 Tithi Praveśa chart of Swami Jayendra Saraswati, read for the arrest. When planets are together, the most benefic and the most malefic exchange results: Jupiter, Mercury and Mars sit in the 12th, so Jupiter's dasha gave the result of Mars, the 8th lord. That Mars is not a Vipreeta Raja Yoga — a dusthana lord in a dusthana gives it only when alone or with another dusthana lord, and here he spoils all four kendra lords. Arudha rules for the year: A4 is the physical home, and with A4 in the 8th and its lord in the 12th the home is lost; a malefic in the 2nd from AL feeds a violent image; Rahu in the 10th from AL makes one look like a schemer; lordships are never reckoned from Arudha Lagna. Venus, Hora Lord and lord of A10 and A6 in a kendra, with a Raja Yoga and Tapasya Yoga, shows the way out.

Parivrajya Yoga, Saturn/Rahu AL Rules & Mahapurusha Priority

Parivrajya Yoga makes a genuine renunciate: Moon in a navāṁśa of Mars, together with Saturn or aspected by him in the rāśi chart. Swami Jayendra Saraswati has it at its strongest, Moon and Saturn joined in Saturn's own Aquarius. The same Saturn sits in the 12th from Arudha Lagna — a Raj Yoga for Saturn and Rahu — so he is seen as powerful and, by some, as a sanyasi who has given up giving up. The class then opens Jayalalithaa's chart and settles which of two Mahapurusha Yogas dominates: the trikona comes first (Dharma, Artha, Kama, Moksha), then exaltation over Moolatrikona over own sign. K.N. Rao is the example for Malavya over Hamsa, and Jupiter, not Venus, is the planet of diplomacy.

Jaya Yoga — Victory Over Enemies & George W. Bush D10 Analysis

Jaya Yoga: the 6th lord debilitated and the 10th lord exalted (own sign or Moolatrikona also works, in a less pure form), counted from Lagna only. It gives victory over enemies in the dasha of the 6th or 10th lord. George W. Bush's D-10 has it without modification — 6th lord Jupiter debilitated and 10th lord Mars exalted, both in Capricorn. With the 7th lord Saturn in lagna in the rasi, Dwisaptati Sama Dasha is used: Jupiter mahadasha ran April 2000 to April 2009, starting when he overtook John McCain in the primaries and covering both terms. The page also gives the D-10 rules used later in the class on the puzzle chart: Sun as karaka of service, the 7th as loss of service or business, the 3rd as a short break and the 8th as a long one, and the 5th house, A5 and 5th from Arudha Lagna for landing a job.

Key Principles — Sign vs Lord, Venus-Rahu Pull & Parivartana Rules

The general rules stated in this class. Sign and lord: the sign is the inanimate circumstance, the lord is the consciousness that copes with it — so an antardasha sign shows what you face and its lord shows how you face it. Venus with Rahu: Rahu does not weaken Venus, they are friends; he turns Venus to the materialistic side, as Ketu would turn him to moksha, and a conjunction outweighs a 7th aspect. Jupiter helps a Sun afflicted by Rahu, and the Sun helps Jupiter. Parivartana: kendra and kona lords exchanging is a Raja Yoga, a dusthana lord exchanging with a kendra or kona lord is a Duryoga, and friendship between the two planets sets the strength. An exalted 6th lord means strong enemies and a long fight, not easy victory. Also: lagna lord in the 8th makes a karma yogi, and the 6th lord in lagna is bad.

Pope John Paul II — Tapasya Yoga, Lakshmi Yoga & D10 Dikpala Analysis

The class opens with eclipses: paired solar and lunar eclipses with the nodes in dual signs, mostly Virgo–Pisces, fell within a month of 80% of the papal changes of the last 190 years. Then Pope John Paul II’s chart. Lagna lord Venus with 9th lord Mercury in the 7th gives Lakshmi Yoga; Venus within a quarter degree of Ketu, with Saturn in a trine, gives Tapasya Yoga — in the Kama Trikona, so some desire stands behind the tapasya. The Arudha Lagna gives the image of a humble, wise, fearless priest; the Navamsa trines give his abilities; Jupiter and Ketu flanking Navamsa lagna mark a lineage. In D-10 the lagna-axis planets sit in Ishana amsa and none in Ananta: a religious man, which is not the same as a spiritual one. Mars in the D-10 Arudha Lagna in Indra amsa gives power, and Dwisaptati Sama Dasha (lagna lord in the 7th) was running Mars–Venus when he became Pope.

Before reading Vimshottari, check whether a conditional dasha applies: Dwisaptati Sama, Shashtihayani, Shatabdika, Chaturasiti Sama. None applies to Bill Gates, so his Sun dasha is read in Vimshottari. In the navamsa Sun is in the 9th house: a dasha of dharma. In the D-10 Sun is 7th lord in the 12th, his marana karaka sthana: the business is broken up or control is given up, while Sun in A3 starts new ventures and his argala on the 11th keeps the gains coming. Student Chart — D2 Hora Financial Analysis, Viparita Raja Yoga & Ghatika Lagna in D2

The same student's finances from the Narayana Dasha of the Hora chart. A trine dasha brings money easily, a quadrant brings it with effort, the 3rd, 6th and 8th mean swimming against the stream, and the 8th from Arudha Lagna is a sudden change of status. Sagittarius dasha was a sudden rise; Taurus brought setbacks because the 10th and 12th lords exchange signs (a duryoga); Libra, the 3rd with exalted Saturn, is tight until 2007, best from 2007 to 2010, and weak after. Viparita Raja Yoga is extended to the 3rd house, with the reason. Investment is read from the Upapada, not the 12th house; Ghatika Lagna in D-2 is financial influence. Arudha Padas Deep Reading, Parivartana Yoga Rules & Mahapurusha Triggers

How to read an Arudha pada. The house shows whether a result exists; its Arudha shows the tangible form the world sees. Three things are read: the sign and house the pada falls in, the planets with rasi drishti on it, and its lord with his yogas. Worked on a student’s A9: exalted 9th lord Mars combust in the 6th, A9 in the 12th aspected by Venus, and the lords of AL and A9 together with Ketu. Transits from Arudha Lagna: Saturn on AL runs the image down, Jupiter protects it from a quadrant but gives a reality check from a trine, and Rahu and Ketu bless it from a trine. Parivartana is always a yoga, good or a duryoga by the houses exchanged. A Mahapurusha Yoga needs a dasha or transit to trigger it and then lasts for life.

Example Chart — Career Decision via Annual TP & A9+A10+A4 Material Raja Yoga

An engineer unhappy with his company's management holds an offer that means relocating: change now or stay? The lagna is at 0°06' Taurus, so the birth time is first tested on his marriage and the sex and timing of his children in D7. The decision is then read from the 2004 annual Tithi Pravesha chart. The ruler of the year, Mercury, is 8th and 11th lord in lagna afflicting the 10th lord Sun; in D10 he is lagna and 10th lord in a Raja Yoga with Venus, who is in Marana Karaka Sthana as 2nd and 9th lord — resources and direction from superiors are what suffers. The running Jupiter dasha has the Badhakesha in A10: a change of job. The 2005 chart is checked before advising: a parivartana of the 1st and 7th lords with the Yogakaraka on lagna, and A9, A10 and A4 together — a material Raja Yoga. The deity for the year is taken from Moon and Venus.

Sathya Sai Baba Chart Analysis — Spiritual Combinations & Vishnu Avatar Rule

Parāśara’s combination for an avatāra of Vishnu: a rāja yoga between at least two planets that are both in Devalokāṁśa; the same with two planets in Siṁhāsanāṁśa gives a world emperor. Sathya Sai Baba’s chart: Scorpio lagna with four planets, the 8th lord in lagna, Rahu in the 8th and exalted Ketu in the 2nd for mystic ability and magnetic speech; in Navāṁśa both Ketu and the lagna are in the 12th from the Ātmakāraka Jupiter — a saint with a good chance of mokṣa, though Ketu is with Saturn. Ramana Maharshi is the comparison: no nodes on the 8th, so no miracles; Ātmakāraka Moon with Ketu in the 10th; Ketu in Īśāna aṁśa in the Daśāṁśa lagna; and Ketu alone in the 12th from the Ātmakāraka in Navāṁśa. The rules used: Ketu in the 12th from the Ātmakāraka with only benefic aspects gives mokṣa, siddhis come from the 8th and 12th, and a person close to liberation needs only the Iṣṭa Devatā. Ends with the chart of the moment of death and the 14 lokas.

Jyotishi Yoga (1/3/5/6 Connection), Mahapurusha + Retrograde Rule & Debilitation of Trine vs Kendra vs Dusthana Lords

Three answers from the question session. The yoga of intelligence a student found in Jaimini is perfect when the lagna lord, the 5th lord and the 3rd and 6th lords are all connected (essence, ability, initiative, overcoming obstacles); that is not found in real life, so a connection between any two or three of them is some level of it. A Mahapurusha yoga from an exalted planet that is retrograde is technically present but very weak, because retrogression gives uchcha-bhanga; affliction by a malefic matters little, and retrogression does no harm when the yoga comes from own sign. Debilitation is graded by lordship: best for a dusthana lord, neutral for a quadrant lord, not so good for a trine lord. A debilitated trine lord is still good for the native and only too weak to deliver, so its gemstone is fine, and prayer works best in its dasha or antardasha or when it is strong in transit.

Neecha Bhanga Raja Yoga — Three Formation Rules, Dusthana Lord Exception & Timing Application

The teacher gives three basic causes of Neecha Bhanga: the debilitated planet is retrograde; it is exalted in the Navamsa; or the planet exalted in its sign of debilitation, or the lord of that sign, is in a quadrant from lagna or Moon. For Mars in Cancer that means Jupiter or Moon in a kendra from lagna or Moon; conjunction with the sign lord is not one of the rules. Neecha Bhanga of a dusthana lord is the lower grade: in a student’s chart with Sagittarius lagna and Moon in Scorpio, Mars in the 10th breaks the debilitation, but Moon as 8th lord was better off debilitated. Accusation Houses (10H from Lagna/AL/Moon), Amala Yoga, D10 Ownership vs Occupation & Vipareeta Rules

An accusation is a blot on conduct and good name, so it is a 10th-house matter; the 5th house is following and power, which is something else. Rahu on the Arudha Lagna or the 10th from it is only an accusation; Rahu on the 10th from Lagna means the person did wrong; affliction to the 10th from Moon is guilt in his own mind. Amala Yoga needs benefics and no malefics in the 10th from both Lagna and Moon. The page also covers when to read from the Moon instead of the Lagna, the amsa rulers of the Dasamsa (the Rasi 10th lord is only the seed), and the rule that the house a planet owns is its agenda while the house it occupies is what it is asked to do — worked through for the 2nd lord in the 12th and the 12th lord in the 2nd. Guru Chandala Yoga Nuances, Parashara's Graha-Devata Map, Saturn+Ketu in 2nd Remedy & Rahu from AL

Guru Chandala Yoga exists whenever Jupiter and Rahu are together, whatever houses they own: Rahu attacks Jupiter’s natural significations — children, dharma, wisdom. Their lordships can still make them cooperate (Leo lagna: Rahu as 7th lord with Venus his friend, joined to Jupiter the 5th lord), but when Jupiter is the functional malefic and Rahu the 5th lord, 5th-house matters suffer; Rahu dominates unless Jupiter is much stronger. Saturn and Ketu transiting the 2nd from a Cancer Moon are two planets of depletion in the house of resources, with a prayoga possible. The remedies follow Parashara’s graha-devata list — Vishnu as Matsya or Veda Narayana for Saturn with Ketu, a sattvic Ganesha or Kumara Ganapati for Ketu, Rudra and the Mrityunjaya mantra when Saturn in Gandanta threatens the body — and the form of the deity is matched to the purpose. A Rahu transit is then read from lagna, Arudha Lagna and Moon: in the 8th from AL it brings sudden setbacks in image, while in the 11th from the Moon the native takes it well.

BPHS Ch.9 Balarishta Verses 17–30 (Complete), Apoklimas Explanation & Viprit Rajayoga + Dignity

Verses 17–30 of the Arishta chapter of BPHS, read from the Sanskrit one by one: what each combination is, where the grammar settles a doubt (dual "papau" = two malefics, "cha" = and), and where the teacher differs from Santhanam. Verses 17–23 concern the child: malefics in lagna and the 7th, waning Moon in lagna, Moon in Papakartari in the 1st, 7th, 8th or 12th, and all planets powerless in apoklimas. Verses 24–29 concern the mother and father, and verse 30 the family. Along the way: why kendras give with effort, panapharas more easily and apoklimas with the most difficulty. Baby Chart Analysis (Jan 2007) — Maha Yogada (Sun+Mercury in Lagna), 3 Gandanta Planets & Shashtihayani Dasha

The chart of a day-old girl, Sagittarius lagna, born just after sunrise. 9th lord Sun and 10th lord Mercury sit within half a degree of each other in lagna with Hora Lagna and Ghatika Lagna, so the Dharma-Karma-Adhipati yoga is given by Maha Yogadas. Two conditional dashas qualify, Shashtihayani (Sun in lagna) and Dwisaptati Sama (7th lord in lagna); the teacher explains how to choose and prefers Shashtihayani. Against the promise stand three planets in Gandanta: Saturn deepest, then Mars, who is Atmakaraka and dispositor of the lagna lord, then Moon in the 8th. Mars dasha runs from birth and Moon dasha follows, so the first ten years need care; D6 and D30 confirm it and the D30 elements point to blood. Short readings of D10, D20 and D24 follow.

D24 Formal vs Overall Education Seeds (12th vs 4th Lord), D24 9th House Analysis & Trilochana Yoga via Parivartana

Which seed starts the Narayana daśā of D-24? Technically the 12th lord of the rāśi chart, which shows overall learning; Sanjay Rath uses the 4th lord for formal education and degrees, and the teacher says to look at both. The example is a schoolboy (1990) who wants to study medicine. In his D-24 (Scorpio lagna) Mars, Sun and Mercury sit in Cancer in the 9th; Mercury exchanges signs with 9th lord Moon in the 8th, so it is as though Sun, Moon and Mars are together: results akin to Trilochana yoga for the bachelor’s education. Moon is in maraṇa kāraka sthāna and hemmed by malefics, which gives anxiety and displacement, but a house lord never destroys his own house. Both Narayana daśās are then read: Capricorn daśā from the 12th-lord seed (desire to learn) and Scorpio daśā from the 4th-lord seed (entry into the bachelor’s course).

BPHS Ch.10 — Arishtabhanga Complete: The Antidote Verses for the Balarishta Combinations

BPHS Chapter 10 gives the antidotes to the evil (arishta) combinations of the chapter before; the whole chapter is read in one sitting. Even one of Mercury, Jupiter or Venus in a kendra from lagna kills all the evil as the Sun kills darkness, and strong Jupiter alone in lagna destroys a collection of evils as a pranam to Shiva destroys sins; both verses are generic, for any lagna, and name natural benefics. The lagna lord, the highest functional benefic, well placed (kendra-samstha) in any quadrant does the same. Then come the Shukla-paksha night birth with a benefic aspecting lagna (reversed in Krishna paksha), Jupiter with Mars or aspecting Mars for the mother, and a malefic in the 4th or 10th hemmed by benefics for the father, which the teacher explains by counting from the 9th house (10th = 2nd from 9th, 4th = 8th from 9th) and extends to the mother. The last verse has malefics between benefics with the benefics in kendras and trikonas; with no malefic at all it is better still.

BPHS chapter 34, verses 8 to 18, read line by line after a recap of the first seven verses: koṇa lords are śubha, kendra lords neutral for every planet, 3rd/6th/11th lords aśubha, and 2nd/8th/12th lords decided by their other house and their company. Parāśara then ranks the natural benefics (Full Moon, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus in rising order) and malefics (waning Moon, Sun, Saturn, Mars), and says kendra ownership costs Venus the most and Moon the least. A Raja Yoga is a kendra lord and a koṇa lord in exchange, together in one of their own houses, together elsewhere, or in full or partial mutual aspect; it does not apply when either also owns the 3rd, 6th or 11th. A yogakāraka is a planet that owns both, or a kendra lord in a koṇa, or a koṇa lord in a kendra. Rahu and Ketu are judged by the house they occupy and the lord they are with, not by Aquarius and Scorpio, and become yogakārakas on the same terms.

Parāśara answers Maitreya lagna by lagna: which planets are benefic, malefic, yogakāraka and killer. Aries: Mars is auspicious despite owning the 8th; Saturn, Mercury and Venus are malefic (Mercury worst, Venus least); Jupiter and Sun are benefic; Venus is the direct killer. Taurus: Jupiter, Venus and Moon are malefic; Saturn and Sun benefic, Saturn giving rāja yoga; Mercury only limitedly benefic. Gemini: Mars, Jupiter and Sun are malefic, Venus the only benefic, Saturn left unlisted, Moon the main killer. Cancer: Venus and Mercury malefic; Moon, Mars and Jupiter benefic with Mars the full yogakāraka; Saturn the killer and the Sun decided by association. The teacher reads the lists as degrees of beneficence, not three boxes, and stresses that lords of 2, 8 and 12 go by the other house and by sāhacarya. The nodes take their nature from the house they occupy and the lords they are with.

BPHS chapter 34 read verse by verse for four lagnas. Leo: Mercury, Venus and Saturn are papa, Mars, Sun and Jupiter shubha, Saturn the maraka, Moon judged by association, and Jupiter with Venus gives no yoga by mere conjunction. Virgo: Mars, Jupiter and Moon are papa, Mercury and Venus shubha and the only yogakarakas, Venus also the maraka, Sun by association, Saturn neutral because he is left unmentioned. Libra: Jupiter and Sun are clear malefics, Mars a borderline malefic but the clear killer, Saturn and Mercury benefics, Moon with Mercury the raja yoga, Venus neutral. Scorpio: Venus, Mercury and Saturn are papa, Moon and Jupiter shubha, Sun and Moon the yogakarakas, Mars neutral, Venus the maraka. Running through all four: 2nd, 8th and 12th lords follow their other house and their company, and the "papa" who kills by touching the 2nd or 7th is the functional malefic of that lagna, not the natural one.

Nābhasa yogas are combinations read from plain placement of the seven planets in the zodiac — lordship, friendship and exaltation do not enter, and Rāhu and Ketu are left out. Parāśara names 32 yogas (3 Āśraya, 2 Dala, 20 Ākṛti, 7 Saṅkhya) with 1,800 variations, and at this point defines them without giving results, so each result is reasoned from the name. The class defines and reads Rajju, Musala and Nala (all planets in movable, fixed, dual signs), Mālā and Sarpa (natural benefics or natural malefics in at least three of the four kendras), and the first nine shape yogas: Gadā (two consecutive kendras — strength), Śakaṭa (1st and 7th — a dynamic go-getter), Vihaṅga (4th and 10th — a workaholic), Śṛṅgāṭaka (trines), Hala (11th, 3rd, 7th — maximises the fruit of effort), Vajra (gentle person, ruthless work), Yava (its reverse), Kamala and Vāpī. The remaining Ākṛti yogas and the seven Saṅkhya yogas are only named; whether the yogas apply in divisional charts is left as debatable.

BPHS Ch.35 verses 13–15, read in class. Four-sign yogas, all seven planets within four houses from a kendra: Yupa (from lagna), Sara (from the 4th), Shakti (from the 7th), Danda (from the 10th). The names are weapons and the starting house decides the result: personality, clear aim, strong desire worked through people, patient work. Seven-sign yogas: Nauka, Kuta, Chhatra, Chapa — ship, gang, umbrella, arch. The theme is support and the middle house decides: the 4th, 7th, 10th and 1st. Chakra (all odd houses) and Samudra (all even houses) are read from the last house: the 11th, a cycle of wanting and gaining more, and the 12th, the magnanimous giver. Parashara gives only the names; the teacher says plainly that these readings are his reasoning from the names and the grouping, and that Chakra and Samudra need case studies.
