Example Chart — D4 Gemini Lagna: Saturn Dasha+Rahu AD(After Apr 2012)=9L in Lagna=Fortune+Rahu Karka Abroad=Stabilize US Position/Visa; PAK LAGNA: Owners of 12H from Pak Lagna That Also Aspect It=Foreign Dasha; Mercury MD After Saturn=Lagna Lord in Trine to 5L Venus=Motherland Agenda; Mercury-Venus AD(2020-23)=May Return India; Advice: Lower Bar+Rahu AD Very Good Chance US

The D-4 of the 1987 example, with Gemini rising, answers whether he must leave the US. Saturn, 9th lord in the 12th, took him abroad; the running Mars antardaśā (6th and 11th lord exalted in the 8th) gives only tension. Rahu antardaśā from 26 April 2012 is the 9th lord in the lagna and the kāraka of foreign lands, so his position abroad is cemented and he will not have to return for at least three years. Saturn and Rahu also own and aspect the 12th from Paka lagna. A return to India is likelier in Mercury–Venus (2020–23): Venus, not Mercury, is the 5th lord, and he is in the 5th from Paka lagna. The advice is to try more universities and set the bar lower.

Key principle

The 12th from Paka lagna is important for going abroad. Saturn and Rahu own it, and both of them actually aspect it — Saturn with the 10th aspect, Rahu with the 9th aspect.

Example Chart

Example chart — medical education, career and stay abroad, D-24 / D-10 / D-4 (1987)
26 Jul 1987 · 11:18:30 AM IST (rectified in class from 11:24 AM) · India. Rāśi lagna Virgo, D-4 lagna Gemini and D-10 lagna Aquarius match the class. The class D-24 lagna is Taurus; this chart shows Gemini, and several D-24 and D-10 planets fall in other signs (the teacher used Surya Siddhanta positions).
Open D-4: Gemini lagna with Rahu in it (9th lord as co-lord of Aquarius). Saturn in Taurus, the 12th, as 9th lord. Mars exalted in Capricorn, the 8th, as 6th and 11th lord. Venus, the 5th lord, in Cancer. The class has lagna lord Mercury in Pisces (10th), which makes Pisces the Paka lagna, Aquarius the 12th from it and Cancer the 5th from it; this chart shows Mercury in Sagittarius. Saturn’s 10th aspect and Rahu’s 9th aspect both fall on Aquarius.
Time:

First Example — A Medical Graduate Looking for a Seat in the US (1987)

  • Male, born 26 July 1987 in India.
  • Time history: the family first gave about 11:50–11:52 AM. A new time, 11:24 AM, came later and was "supposed to be accurate", with a doubt of a minute (11:23).
  • The class had seen this chart a few months earlier and rectified it on D-24 and medical education alone, the only event then known.
  • Known facts: MBBS in India, finished June–July 2010. A top student through school, entered a good medical college on a high rank. Came to the US some time in 2011. Has written all three licensing steps and now needs a university seat (a paid J-1 or H-1 position) to study cardiology.
  • The trigger for the question: he interviewed at five universities and has just heard that none accepted him. He is frightened. Should he keep trying or go back to India and work there?
  • Body and temperament, from a student who knows him: 5'11", very slender, talks very fast, grasps things quickly, communicates very well, analytical and logical, "has his way around people" but not what you would call diplomatic. One younger sister, no miscarriage in between.

At 11:24 AM the teacher's chart has the rāśi lagna on the Virgo–Libra border: 11 seconds earlier it changes. D-24 changes within seconds too.

"It's on the border basically. But the thing is, we are in the ballpark. We are in the ballpark, then we can try to do something."

Cross-Checks in D-4 and D-3

The teacher goes to D-4 before D-24, "because D-24 will change every 3 minutes or so."

D-4

  • Start of Libra gives D-4 lagna Libra. End of Virgo gives D-4 lagna Gemini (the 10th from Virgo).
  • He came to the US in 2011. In D-4 Vimśottarī, Saturn daśā was running. The antardaśā is not relied on; only the mahādaśā is used.
  • From Gemini: Saturn is the 9th lord in the 12th house (Taurus). Going to a faraway place.
  • From Libra: Saturn is the yogakāraka in the 8th house. Some auspicious instability is possible, but nothing that clearly says abroad.
  • "Gemini is showing more clearly going to a faraway place."

D-3 — no help

  • The drekkāṇa lagna is either Libra (first drekkāṇa of Libra) or Taurus (last drekkāṇa of Virgo).
  • From Libra the 3rd is Sagittarius, lord Jupiter in Aries, which could suggest a male sibling. But the teacher will not use it:

"We can't really be so sure with the drekkāṇa, unlike in saptāṁśa. That principle of finding the gender doesn't really work well."

  • From Taurus, an even sign, the 3rd is counted backwards and is Pisces, again Jupiter's.
  • The younger sibling is shown by Jupiter either way. Nothing else is known about the sister, so D-3 cannot separate the two lagnas.

D-4 — Will He Have to Go Back to India?

D-4 lagna Gemini. D-4 Vimśottarī: Saturn mahādaśā, Mars antardaśā now, Rahu antardaśā from 26 April 2012.

Mars antardaśā (now)

  • Mars is the 6th and 11th lord in the 8th house, exalted (Capricorn). A malefic dusthāna lord in the 8th gives a Viparīta Rāja Yoga, so he is "okay".
  • He does not show going abroad or settling abroad. Exalted in the 8th, he gives a lot of tension and anxiety. That is the present.

Rahu antardaśā (from 26 April 2012)

  • Rahu is the 9th lord (co-lord of Aquarius) in the lagna, and the kāraka for going abroad.

"Being the 9th lord, he will get fortune, and being in lagna 9th lord — and kāraka for going abroad — he will stabilize his position abroad. He will either get a visa or green card or whatever."

  • The tensions go. His position in the foreign country is cemented in this period.
  • "He doesn't have to worry about going back. The only thing is try harder, try more universities."
  • "It's very unlikely that he will have to go back to India, in the next 3 years at least."

A student's question: will Mercury daśā take him home?

The student says Saturn, 9th lord in the 12th, gave him confidence, but the next mahādaśā is Mercury, lagna lord in the 10th house, and suggests Mercury is also the 5th lord.

  • The teacher corrects him: Mercury is not the 5th lord. Venus is.
  • But Mercury, the lagna lord, is in a trine from the 5th lord Venus. So yes, in Mercury daśā he is likely to go back. Not at its start in 2017, but later, perhaps in Mercury–Venus.
  • Mercury–Venus runs 2020–2023. Venus is the 5th lord and is also in the 5th house from the Paka lagna. "There is a good chance."
  • "He shouldn't think about all those things at this point of time." First settle, study and build a career in the US.

Paka lagna and the 12th from it

"When you see foreign travel, Paka lagna is an important lagna. The 12th from Paka lagna is important for going abroad. Saturn and Rahu own it, and both of them actually aspect it — Saturn with the 10th aspect, Rahu with the 9th aspect."

  • Paka lagna is the sign holding the lagna lord, here Mercury's sign in D-4.
  • The 12th from it is Aquarius, owned by Saturn and Rahu. Saturn in Taurus aspects it with his 10th aspect, Rahu in Gemini with his 9th.
  • Saturn–Rahu is the period in which the teacher would have expected him to go abroad. He is already there, so this is when his fortune there is cemented. Until then the uncertainty about staying or returning continues.

On the site: D-4 lagna Gemini, Saturn in Taurus (12th), Mars in Capricorn (8th), Rahu in Gemini (lagna) and Venus in Cancer all match the class. Mercury shows in Sagittarius (7th) on the site; the teacher has him in Pisces (10th), which is what makes Aquarius the 12th from Paka lagna and Venus the 5th from it.
